From Leicester’s De Montfort Hall, Aled Jones counts down the UK's top ten favourite hymns as voted for by you.
The ten hymns were recently chosen as the UK’s most popular by Songs of Praise viewers in an online vote and include three by living hymn-writers, each of whom takes part in the programme. But which one will be the UK’s favourite? A congregation of a thousand voices joins Aled, and there are special performances of hymns from all around the UK, including Katherine Jenkins and Wynne Evans singing in St. David’s Cathedral, Daniel O’ Donnell performing In Christ Alone on the coast of Northern Ireland, and Fairground Attraction’s Eddi Reader singing Amazing Grace on the coast of Scotland. The star of Hollywood blockbusters Black Panther and Venom, Sope Aluko, talks about her love of hymns and how much comfort she gains from them, and poet John Cooper Clarke and comedian Lloyd Griffith each talk about their own particular favourites.

Praise the Lord. I sang through. I was raised in a orphanage school (Nairobi, Kenya) founded and run by a Brit. We had a hymnal with most of these songs. God bless his soul in blessed memory.

I relocated to the US recently from Nigeria, it's easy to stay away from God when one comes here truly but d hymns...I wake up n a hymn comes to me, I quickly come on RUclips search listen n it leads me to my Bible reading n prayers. Hymns are wonderful

Personally, I think people have forgotten about these beautiful hymns so they can pass it to the younger generation. It's too much about $ and sports that are more important than feeling the soul with the grace of God.

My 27 year old daughter died today. She experienced cardiac arrest 4 days ago, causing brain death. She chose to be a donor so after she had intubation removed, we held and caressed her for 89 minutes until her precious heart. My daughter was deaf. As I listen on this sad, sad day and am blessed by this marvelous music, it occurs to me that from now on, she hears and she sings to the glory of the Lord for all eternity. Thank you. The entire UK is precious to this Yank and I am relieved to see so many Christians in this video. xxx

Who ever invented songs of Praise is very very wise. I lived in England and Wales in the seventies and eighties before I moved to Canada. Songs of Praise was one of my favourite programs. Thanks to U tube I can watch it now.

Hymns tell a story about the Grace of God, this is why I love the hymns.
Hearing I Vow to Thee my Country especially with the conflict in Afghanistan brings a tear to my eyes. Let's do our part in this, us world.
My 2 friends served in Afghanistan and unfortunately they didn't survive they are both forever 19 years old but I know they are in gods loving arms in the kingdom of heaven.

I remember the days when i work in a nursing home back in UK was singing this hymns How Great thou art while feeding the elderly and she was amazed and asking why i do know the hymn how great thou art and i told her that i usually sing in the choir and we usually sing it during sunday school and i love singing hymns.

Seeing an old veteran sing "I Vow To Thee My Country" brought tear to my eyes. His song was also a tribute to his fallen comrades in battles fought.

I woke up this morning with this feeling of sadness and worry. I was just wondering, thinking and trying to connect with a hymn that can help lift my spirits. Then, I stumbled on this wonderful collection of timeless and classic hymns. I cried all throughout the 45 minutes, the most worthwhile 45 minutes I have spent on this platform. I grew up singing all these hymns in our local Anglican Church. One of my favourite is How Great Thou Art. All Glory and Praise to our Lord God.

I find comfort in singing these hymns. "Amazing Grace" and "I, The Lord of Sea And Sky" are two of my favorites. There are so many more hymns that I find comfort and bring me closer to God. I was taught these in Sunday school and then when I was old enough to attend the service I would follow the hymns in the hymnal.

I wish the BBC and British Television would show more Christian programming. I am Catholic and there are always so many profound stories of faith to tell about ordinary people's lives. Unfortunately in an extremely secular and ,materialist nation those who make the decisions are oblivious to those powerful stories. This program is beautiful, we need more of them!
Do you think the Catholic Church isn't materialistic? That was Martin Luthers main criticism. Church dogma is created specifically to keep the the clergy in power and the lay subjugated.
The churches are corrupt, the churches are run by Satan himself. There should be no sects, nor churches as organisations, Churches twist the bible and Christianity to give themselves power and control. The Catholic Church omitted many great books from the bible and locked them away never to be seen again in the Vatican archives where no one can go. The churches take a Christ’s message and corrupt it so it gives them more control over the people. Follow Christs message, not the priest, pope or pastor.
