As an additional note on Lusat's, I'm not saying Lusat's is trash or unusable. I'm just trying to address Lusat being used as a way too general case of "best staff" when in fact it is quite a poor staff earlier on in the game or later into the game when PoD can just replace it for PVE. Just keep in mind the extra FP cost when optimizing because the similar arguments can also applied in PVP. If you have to drink FP pots more often, better players will punish you for it. Of course, if you're fighting someone that just strolls around letting you drink pots safely at a distance then it wouldn't matter, but more drinking = more openings. Generally, for RL125 PVP, I almost never use a Lusat's while it is very possible to optimize while using a Lusat's for RL150 PVP (because the extra points makes it way easier to get enough stat spread). Also, if the majority of your gameplay leans towards using low FP cost spells like Carian Slicer, Lusat's will benefit you. Likewise, if you use plenty of low MV spells, Lusat's will also benefit you more than 10% as shown in the video.
No way. For pvp Lusats is always king. I have 200 hours of mage play in pvp at sl125. Nothing is better not even close. The extra damage is well worth the extra fp used on a pure caster. You have to a of fp and tons of flasks. For pvp Lusats is always best main hand casting staff if you have 80 int

First off, we greatly appreciate these in-depth analysis videos, no one comes close right now. I watched the whole video and I think I have a better understanding of the topic except for the most basic part: casting mainhand vs offhand. Do the bonuses never apply when dual wielding casting instruments if you cast with the offhand? I thought it just used the scaling of whatever you casted with period, but I'm not sure anymore.
It depends on the staff. You can have 2x Carian Glintstone Staff both upgraded to +25 then it wouldn't matter. But for staves like Carian Regal + Glintstone staff, you NEED to cast with Carian Regal to use Carian Regal's sorcery scaling (because it is higher). If you cast with the Carian Glintstone Staff, you would essentially have only held 1 staff. Back to the Carian Glintstone x2 example. If you always only cast with one staff, you don't need to upgrade both to +25 since you can just keep casting with that 1 staff you upgraded to +25 (higher sorcery scaling).
@@Chrightt So when dual wielding, make sure you just cast with the higher sorcery scaling staff, and it doesn't matter that is in your left or right hand, correct? So...what do I use as off hand when I have Regal on my main for all sorts of sorceries? (like gavel of haima, glinstone pebble, Star Shower, Carian Slicer and Piercer)
I keep seeing the Lusat stuff and my brain just like.. Haven't we done this before? in the other games? Since all the other games also had staves with really high mag adjust but increased cost? And all those ones kinda sucked because halving your casts for like 30% more damage is kinda awful in the long run?
@@chuckchan4127 Yeah. It's burst vs sustain. I've noticed burst tends to fall off pretty quickly in this series (at least on NG+ or vs bosses that don't let you do the setup at least.)
And the poor Cold Sorceries get left out, because they have no staff, lol. x] At least they get a cool looking hat... which I love so much and can't stop wearing, lol. x3 Awesome video, BTW. I learned so much. And I agree with over 9000% on Lusat's. I personally don't care how good it can be in certain situation, as its increased FP cost will always be a turn off for me.
Now I'm probably a pleb for saying this but I had trouble following the video this time around. Lots of numbers and spreadsheet stuff. What would actually help me (as dumb as it may sound), is to show the character holding the items/casting with the staves you're talking about when you say your points. Showing the mind differences, showing the different staff combos shooting the same spells (even if you do it very quickly), would just be super helpful for someone like me who has trouble processing auditory information. Now this is obviously a lot more work in the editing room and you may not value it, but I would find it helpful for accessibility reasons. Consider it an idea rather than a criticism. For example, when you were showing off the tests against the giant to show damage comparisons + you were talking about motion values, I was completely able to follow.
Insanely complicated, but you made it understandable. I just got Lusat staff. I am also using staff of loss and carian knight staff. I think Im really screwing up using Lusat. I also just got comet Azur.
Any ideas on when were gonna get the 125 or 150 meta level video? Very I terested in your opinion since you seem to go off mathematics and practicality vs tradition. Personally I lean towards 150 and wont dislike if you disagree. Truthfully curious.
There are pros and cons of both (I play in both metas). The reason why I'm not doing that video yet is because the "easy" breakdown is done by a lot of youtubers without, imo, enough data to support it. I want to show through my videos on many of the breakdowns to help lead towards the hybrid discussion which ties with the 125 vs 150 discussion.
@@Chrightt I see. I guess I haven't heard any real arguements other than raw damage and havel casters. Damag ed levels out better than is ds3 due to higher health and no r1+r1 true combo. Damage seems to come more from weapon upgrade level rather than 25 points in a single attack stat. So freeing up 20 extra points off of a ds3 one build seemed more practical to me considering they are almost identical saved 60 vig over 40. Very confusing for more because I dont understand the methodology
That's what I've been hearing. I just really want to get deep into the pvp but the meta discussion has me frustrat4ed since I cant do backup saves on xbox I think.
I did want to add one point about lusats staff. I agree with all you said about pve, but I think lusats has use in duels. Because duels generally have no healing allowed but you can always drink fp flasks, the downside of fp is less apparent than when doing pve content. Youll have to drink more often but there is an argument that any amount of damage in pvp can be vital.
I have a question no one seems to have talked about: Would the bonuses the staff provides affect the ash of war in your right hand weapon? Feks: would glintstoneboosting staff boost glintstone ash of wars? Or meteorite staff boost gravity ash of wars?
Nice vid as always, It'd be nice to have some PvP focused calcs tho, since I think that's where Lusat's really shines, since doing a bit more damage to kill someone in one less hit or totally counter the crimson bubbletear flask effect could be a deciding factor in a duel/invasion.
This is true. I'll address Lusat's optimization in PVP maybe in a future video (although I'd say it's still inferior for RL125 PVP at optimized levels (since you need enough int to backload this staff before it actually beats the frontloaded ones, meaning you either lack vigor or endurance). Plenty usable in RL150 because of so many extra points in mind)
Hey man, I appreciate all the information breakdowns and stuff you've done in regards to Elden Ring. It's been an immense help for me. The next bit can be considered negative comments but try to look at it as (unsolicited) constructive criticism. I feel like this was a more prevalent comment in your earlier videos, but at times you can come off as monotone. I'm not suggesting to force yourself to become some sort of forcefully hyped energizer bunny by any means but at times it can be difficult for me to listen to your videos in one sitting. That being said, I feel like this video has improved on what may just be a person gripe of mine. All in all, I appreciate all that you've done and want to express that I am thankful for the work you've put in and the time you commit to these videos. I feel like each of these videos is better than the last and hope you continue to grow and spread out to a bigger audience. :)
Hey, thanks for the feedback! I'll try to improve on that. I was always better at making the content interesting rather than my tone interesting D: I must sound like a professor.
Just a silly question, i could of looked at the spread sheets and come to my own conclusions BUT, im wondering would PoD and azur's on off hand be a decent combo? May just run glintblade and run a bit more vigor along with the graven tali's and the fouth being situational
This is about 50% diss on Lusat and a video about dual wielding staffs in roughly 30-40%. Amazing. Never held a Lusat in my hands for more than a minute anyway, but I'm glad to be validated.
Lusat's just doesn't add enough damage for the massive fp cost increase. Unless you're spamming glintstone pebble or carian slicer, it's just not worth it. I felt that way since i saw the numbers, this video just hammers it home.

Question about Azures, I'm a cast speed freak, and from what I can tell, Azures staff will give v Dex in the offhand even without meeting the int req. Is this not true? Does the vdex only apply if it's actually the primary cast? I couldn't help but notice you don't mention this possible use case for Azures, which is how I am using it currently. I'm a pvp hybrid faith/int pure caster 125 cap and I have no points to spare to level Dex or STR. Is my build viable? Is gelmir staff worth the farm or does prince like f death outperform it even at 37 int/46 faith because all my sorceries are death? (Well not really, I use ancient death rancor and adulas moonblade) Love your work, response would be appreciated
Azur's gives you cast speed even in your offhand without meeting int requirements. My Azur's column is for deciding whether you want to Azur's mainhand + another bonus for off-hand. It is very possible to just run Carian Regal mainhand + Azur's offhand, but that would require no math here. It's just, do you want the cast speed or the damage boost! Therefore, your build will do just fine :)
@@Chrightt you are awesome! I'm glad you responded. I know it takes no math, but I can't look at frame data and using a stopwatch has too much human error to tell if it works. I know fextralife is wrong about a lot so I wanted confirmation beyond what it said on the wiki. For my purposes this makes Azures best staff in game. Thanks again man, I wish you success, you deserve it.
At 30 Mind, Lusat would only take and additional 8 Mind for 11% damage boost. It's a pvp only staff, and no one increases Mind for pvp past 30, worst case 38 Mind for Lusat.
Kinda hard to wrap my brain around this but from what I understand it's better to dual wield the same staff at lower intelligence levels but better to switch to carian regal in the main hand at higher intelligence levels? also is azur staff worth using in pve with the fp drawback?
I am still confused after watching this. But what I got is lusats is bad. Off hand staff gets an increase to its bonus. Bonus are multiplicative rather than additive.
@Chrightt can you make a Greatsword video (the weapon class, not Guts Sword), I heard from many famous streamers that they are pretty bad compared with their neighbors straight swords and Colossal GS (especially Guts Greatsword). Haven't we done this before? in the other games? Since all the other games also had staves with really high mag adjust but increased cost? And all those ones kinda sucked because halving your casts for like 30% more damage is kinda awful in the long run?
Unless you want the most burst damage, then you're correct.
@@chuckchan4127 Yeah. It's burst vs sustain. I've noticed burst tends to fall off pretty quickly in this series (at least on NG+ or vs bosses that don't let you do the setup at least.)
You have by far the best elden ring content out there!
You really help me to find a new build thanks brother
Subbed at 200~ and now you're up to 8K+ well deserved friend.
Great stuff, really need that spreadsheet for incantations.
Very informative as always, I greatly admire your data-driven analysis and the spreadsheet you have provided. Keep up the good work. 👍
Yooooo i love every time you post
And the poor Cold Sorceries get left out, because they have no staff, lol. x]
At least they get a cool looking hat... which I love so much and can't stop wearing, lol. x3
Awesome video, BTW.
Good explanation, clear as water ☺️
Thanks for the help
Insanely complicated, but you made it understandable. I just got Lusat staff. I am also using staff of loss and carian knight staff. I think Im really screwing up using Lusat. I also just got comet Azur.
imma gonna study your videos again. this should be helpful while im building up my mage build.
You're truly the 🐐 of elden ring content creators
This'll be interesting.
Pure mage builds are fun.
There's an element of resource management that makes playing a mage fun.
Also, nuking bosses never gets old.
Lusat’s is fine with around 30 mind for the purpose of Invasions. PvE might be a different story though as it is probably overkill.
Great video again!
Does the hand you use affect damage with casting cuz I like using a staff in off hand and a weapon in main hand.
Not if you're only using one staff. If you're using 2 staves casting with the higher base magic power staff would yield higher damage.
"To be a sorcerer, you need a lot of intelligence"
"So what, 60, 80, 99?"
"What? I wasn't talking about the stat, silly"
I’ve been getting more invasions at 150 vs 125, 135 and 138 if that matters to you.
Please do a bow comparison video + explanation of the arc scaling of serpent bow. Great videos
Very well made video good job!
I have a question no one seems to have talked about:
Would the bonuses the staff provides affect the ash of war in your right hand weapon? Feks: would glintstoneboosting staff boost glintstone ash of wars?
Or meteorite staff boost gravity ash of wars?
No, because ashes of war are ashes of war and treated as such, they are not sorceries or incantations. This is what shard of Alexander is for
Nice vid as always, It'd be nice to have some PvP focused calcs tho, since I think that's where Lusat's really shines, since doing a bit more damage to kill someone in one less hit or totally counter the crimson bubbletear flask effect could be a deciding factor in a duel/invasion.
The only time you see somewhat of a return from lusats staff is by using spells with multiple hits per cast.
Brilliant display. Honestly thankyou for your work. I think int builds are a bit like playing chess.
Such amazingly informative videos. And a really nice voice too 😉😮💨
Thank you ❤
like, youre good at math and stuff, like math sucks so thanks for doing all the works
ive been using your last dual staff of loss build and its sweet considering im more of mele character but re invest points and im at level 400
Glad you like the build!
Just a silly question, i could of looked at the spread sheets and come to my own conclusions BUT, im wondering would PoD and azur's on off hand be a decent combo? May just run glintblade and run a bit more vigor along with the graven tali's and the fouth being situational
what about dual wielding the carian regal scepter, is that good? great stuff, im new to sorceries.
Best breakdowns on the interwebs.
This is about 50% diss on Lusat and a video about dual wielding staffs in roughly 30-40%. Amazing. Never held a Lusat in my hands for more than a minute anyway, but I'm glad to be validated.
Staff of the Guilty? Are you ever going to cover it in the future, since this video is incomplete?
Subbed and belled my friend, love your work 👍🏼
Thank you so much 👍
I fing using azure's for already fast spells is nice for roll catching on pure int high vig builds, it's basically just ranged chip damage
This hurt me head. Me go back to hit things with pointy stick. Pointy stick kill good and green bar go back up. No need do math.
im about to go crazy with this info
Lusat's just doesn't add enough damage for the massive fp cost increase. Unless you're spamming glintstone pebble or carian slicer, it's just not worth it. I felt that way since i saw the numbers, this video just hammers it home.
16:20 ah the old school days where all the poise damage values are just wrong
Maybe the best quality information about elden ring combat. Keep it up dude.
One note, the pronunciation is phys-ick. The way you pronounced it is spelled physique, and means like body composition / musculature.
Noted! I'll try to remember that. I know I don't have the best pronunciation >.>
@@Chrightt honestly haven't noticed anything else usually, and I've seen most of your vids at this point. great work!
Lusat staff really good for invader npc, since you want to fast kill it before you die
I can't even be bothered to get Lusat's staff. I would definitely curbstomp the bosses at my current level but it doesn't seem worth it.
Thanks for your hard work
It's my pleasure
Do some of these mechanics translate over to seals?
Like is it worth dual wielding seals at any time? like godslayer and frenzy, etc. etc?
Yes. I might make an incantation based video, but since I started with sorceries, sorceries is always one step ahead.
@@Chrightt I personally don't need one, so please continue to make the content you want. You answered my question, and i an do the rest of the homework myself.
Thank you kindly!
love your vids man. super informative
A great job, nicely done and very helpful.
I do appreciate your work, keep it up !!
Thanks for the sheets its very helpful. All though do you mind if i used your tool and mention your sheets in my video and link your channel ?
All respect.
Sure! As long as you give credit, I'm fine with it.
@@Chrightt thanks well do that.
You mean to tell me I've been using Lusats in my offhand and it's basically useless? Or did I understand it wrong?
Worse than useless. You just spent 50% extra FP for nothing.
@@Chrightt Damn, I feel silly.
Honestly your videos are informative and I'm constantly recommending them to my friends. I love how you bring the info and make it understandable xD
Never change bro
I'm running magic melee with carian glintblade and was thinking of swapping to regal when I hit 70 int. Thanks for the info!
No problem!
(Well not really, I use ancient death rancor and adulas moonblade)
Love your work, response would be appreciated
So basically the passive of both staves apply whenever you cast from either hand but the scaling only applies to which stave you cast from
Correct.
@Chrightt
can you make a Greatsword video (the weapon class, not Guts Sword), I heard from many famous streamers that they are pretty bad compared with their neighbors straight swords and Colossal GS (especially Guts Greatsword). I know that there are some good Somber Greatswords, but I speak more about normal ones.
I definitely have it planned in upcoming vid but probably not the next few as they are already planned.
@@Chrightt doesnt matter, I am subbed, so I will see it anyway. Thx for the vids :D
Finally!
Are there any dual sacred seal synergies? I'm a huge fan of the incantations in elden ring
Hey Chrightt, I was looking at your spreadsheet and it seems like you don't have the Gelmir staff listed.
It's because it is int/faith scaled and not pure int scaled. It will still pop up in the catalyst calculator and is one of the worst scaling staves.
Chright... I wonder if OldManMeta will contact you.
