    Bonus protip for Ranni's Dark Moon: This is also a cold spell, meaning that equipping Ranni's hat boosts it even further. It also has the base enemy resistance reduction of Rennala's but with the added bonus of being able to trigger Frostbite pretty quickly for another big debuff. You'll probably want to KAMEHAMEHA in solo play but if you're playing as a summon, a double boosted resistance-reducing homing nuke is *super* helpful. Your host will love you because this also works with terrible ping/connections. Be a homie and use homing spells in co-op.

      Edit: I read the comment wrong but the following is still good info if you're wondering if an equipment bonus works with a specific skill/spell.
      Original comment:
      I've seen posts on reddit about this. Someone even compiled a list of which equipment buffs affect which magic attack. I'd link it but I think links usually get comments deleted (depends on the youtuber though)
      But anyway, Ranni's Snow Witch Hat does not buff the Dark Moon Greatsword's *skill* as the wording on the description of the hat says "Cold *sorceries*"
      Sorceries != Skills
      Sorceries != Incantations too so the Terra Magicus doesn't buff the spells you cast with Sacred Seals

    From what I'm aware of, Dark Moon does not boost damage by 30%, it reduces the enemies magic resistance by 30%, not the same thing. So If they resisted 20% magic damage, they now resist 30% less than 20%, not -10%, but instead they get debuffed to 14% resistance. So you'd be doing 6% more with subsequent attacks. The upside here is if you proc frostbite which further increases subsequent damage taken.

    • @Mimsism
      @Mimsism 2 года назад +18

      In fact, the spell in itself only reduce 10% of magic negation. If the frosbite proc (which reduce 20% of all damages negation), the yes it's a ~30% magic negation and 20% damage negation, but that's only if.

    You can always use the Infinite FP teardrop so you won't have to worry about running out of mana when buffing up to one shot a boss. Simple set up could be Scepter and Lusat staff equipped, use Mixed Physik flask + Terra Magica + Rannis Full moon for extra damage negation or just straight up Comet Azur after Terra and you should be able to one obliterate anything in your way

    • @hexmech1893
      @hexmech1893 2 года назад +2

      Hitting them with it is the challenge. Comet Azur is easily evaded if:
      1. The enemy isn't staggered
      2. They are out of optimum range
      3. They hit you before you can cast it
      The devs made sure most bosses have enough agility to stuff your ass with their weapons. Long Cast attacks take timing and setup to land them in the relatively short window you get to hurt the boss. Without summons to distract the boss, you won't even get the chance to hit them. Crystal Torrent mitigates this with its shotgun cone attack but its lower DPS means you won't down the boss all the time.
      However, Unlimited FP Works are amazing with a mass barrage of homing attacks as they make the BS dodge rate of enemies pointless.

    There is another thing to take into account.
    You can dual wield staves. If you mostly use gravity spells, you can have meteorite staff in the offhand and cast with lusat, and the spell will still get the meteorite staff buff. This applies to ALL staves that boost a specific type of sorcery. You don't need to cast with it to get the boost, just have it in the hands when you cast. So you actually need 3-5 staves to maximum damage. Lusat and carian scepter in one hand, and the one to three staves that boost your most used spells in the other.

Normally this ash of war is garbage, but the "weapon spin" on the Carrian Regal staff is a unique version of the ash that scales with sorc scalling, and is absolutely broken. It's my favorite skill in the game. It does crazy damage and can stunlock almost anything even players in pvp. I pretty much stopped needed a close range weapon after leveling this staff up. Fair thing to note, if you have a staff in your off hand, its buff still applies to your main hand. IE, rock sling does more damage with the Lusat's staff if you're holding a meteorite staff in the other hand. So while you're clearing levels, you probably want to have the staff, but keep it put away, otherwise you'll still take more mana costs.
    Though, that stacking damage is insane if you do lunar sorcery with lusat's staff. It slaps so hard.

  • @insulttothehumanrace3807
    @insulttothehumanrace3807 Год назад +1

    Late here, but one extremely minor thing that is worth noting is that different staves have different scaling ranges department on different intelligence and faith scores. It's not just flat progression.
    For example, the Demi-Human Scepter has the best intelligence scaling among upgraded staves* until 41 intelligence or so, at which point the Academy Staff starts to outpace it; and the Carian Scepter actually takes quite a few more levels beyond it's minimum requirement before it surpasses the Academy Staff, at similar upgrade levels.
    And the Prince of Death staff is actually surpassed by the Gelmir Magma staff until 40-something Intelligence and Faith (though that staff is only a rare drop from the sorcerer lizard right before the portal to Rykard, so technically harder to get than the Prince's staff).
    Josh's advice here is mostly for pure magic casters going big. For hybrid builds or lower level characters, there's still much more to consider.
    *The meteorite staff is surpassed by regular upgrade paths by the 12 to 16 point, by somber upgrade paths by 6 or so.

      If you want to use the big spells out of major enemies fights you can wear the primal glintstone blade which lowers fp cost and hp.
      For the big spells it brings it down a lot. Comet azur with luset staff is 60 but 40 normally and with the charm it’s 45 with lusets staff

      Comet Azur is a garbage spell once the infinite fp flask has worn off anyways. I have 35 Mind and no issues using Lusat’s as my only staff. My flask is +12 and fully fills my fp bar from 0 and there’s a really powerful Talisman that lowers fp cost and your maximum hp which helps neutralize the fp increase from Lusat’s to nearly nonexistence.

All staves mentioned in the video have "backloaded" scaling meaning that you get MORE increase per stat point as you approach 80 Int/Faith hard cap. There are NO Soft Caps for the top tier staves (Crystal Staff
    , Carian Regal Scepter, Prince of Death's Staff, Azur's Glintstone Staff, Lusat's Glintstone Staff, Rotten Crystal Staff, Staff of Loss). Only hard cap of 80.
    Sorcery users are highly encouraged to push for 80 in a stat
    Scaling breakpoints work as follows for the mentioned staves:
    0 - 25 - good value per stat point (1% potential gain)
    25 - 62 - slightly better value per stat point (1.1% potential gain)
    62 - 80 - great value per stat point (1.5% potential gain)
    80 - 99 - very poor value per stat point (0.25% potential gain)

    So this is for not only other players, but for RageGaming as well. You can equip a staff in each hand and benefit from both. I killed Malenia with Rock Sling. Yes, I did. Just Rock Sling. However, I had Lusat in the left hand and casted from there to gain the higher damage at higher FP cost, but when you have Meteorite Staff in your right hand you get the "increases damage to Gravity spells" effect. I killed 90% of bosses with Rock Sling, including Margit at lvl 14 and Godrick at lvl 19. The big aspect to Rocks is that they stun really easily. 3 to 4 hits (must hit with all 3 rocks per cast) to get this to work but it's good. Most stun animations are long so you can drink a potion to recover FP and keep slinging before the enemy can really respond. If you're using Mimic, they can sling as well but will often go through all the memorized spells in a random order. Give them quick cast spells and what this does is have the bosses trade off attention between you and the Mimic so frequently that neither of you gets hurt that much. If you don't want to do Sling and prefer other spells, use a staff for that style of spells. If you want to juice up Azur, then you cast from Lusat and you put Carian Regal in your right hand to stack the scaling. Killed Mogh in 8 seconds at lvl 90 or so. Fun stuff.

    Totally agree! Carian Regal and Lusat's are definitely the best two. I did discover something which I hope others can confirm or debunk:
    The staff on your off-hand transfers its bonus to the staff on your main hand. So a meteorite staff on your left will buff gravity sorceries cast on your right-hand staff.
    HOWEVER, if you have the Lusat's on your left and the Carian Regal on your right, you will find that the 50% extra FP from Lusat's applies WITHOUT any 8% sorcery buff boosting the spells cast with your right-hand staff.

    Josh, how does Azur and Lusat's Staves compare when you've also got the Primal Glintstone Blade talisman? It reduces spell costs by about 25%.

    • @sr71silver
      @sr71silver 2 года назад +2

      It would depend on how it's calculated. If the % mods are additive then it would cancel out Azur's and reduce Lusat's to 25%. If they're applied in sequence then it would actually be a noticable reduction. Lusat's would be a 12.5% increase and Azur's would be a 6.25% decrease.

    Something weird regarding staves is that any of them that increase the fp cost (for either increased spell speed/damage) do so even for your other staves, yet they don't get the benefits from the staff with the effect (Lusat's & Azurs dmg/spell speed), just the fp increase. If it's a passive effect like "boosts gravity", that somehow affects the other staff.

    • @Wolfenacht

      On the lower end cast speed greatly outshines sorcery scaling, as the cast speed is always effected at the same percentage. Not every spell is affected though, long casting/charge spells don't really get change (Which is dumb in my opinion) but the fast casting chained spells you will see a noticeable difference. So Azur's staff will give you more dps on the lower maybe even higher end, just depends on the spells.

    Could someone clarify about the damage status of a weapon?
    I have a moonveil katana and it scales with dexterity and intelligence. Is intelligence applied to physical damage as well? Or intelligence just scales with the weapon's magic attack. I'm wondering if the physical and magic damage of the weapon are a sum of the numbers in intelligence AND also in dexterity, or if they are separate.

      sum

    • @nokturnallex2160
      @nokturnallex2160 2 года назад +2

      So when a weapon does 2 different damage types, like Physical and Magical, it's scaling "can", but not always be effected by different stats. Like with lots of Dex + Int weapons, higher dex increases the physical damage it does while higher INT increases the magical damage it deals. Then you also have to consider different enemies have different resistances, so while one boss might be weak to physical, another might be weak to magic. Then one boss could even be strong against both physical and magic, so you better have a backup plan. (The ability to deal fire or holy when needed)
      When looking at a weapon that deals 2 different types of damage, you can see how your own stats are boosting it's dmg right in the detail window. The number after the + sign is how much your own stats are boosting the weapons base dmg. You can just equip like a +dex or +int Talisman to see how much the difference is and how much dmg each point of the stat is giving you. Keep in mind though, the higher level you upgrade a weapon to, the better scaling it gets, so the damage it gets per stat point will increase as well.

      @nokturnallex2160 2 года назад +1

      @@joaov2374 Yep, also keep in mind there's multiple ways to enchant weapons, but certain weapons can't be enchanted. General rule is if you can't change the art of war on it you can't change the type of damage it deals, but there are exceptions, like the Treespear deals Holy + Physical damage, but can also be enchanted to deal only Holy damage via it's Art of War or you could also enchant it with consumables + spells to change it to a different damage type of your choosing.
      When you're using a weapon whose art of War can change, having different Whetstone Knives (you'll find them during the game) allows you to also change the way it scales and change it to deal a different damage type, like Fire, Holy, or Magic.
      So while Moonveil can't change it's damage type, you could also use any of the regular Katanas as a backup weapon that you could replace the Art of War anytime you want and also enchant them to deal the damage type of your choosing, like having a 2ndary Katana do Fire damage to kill enemies weak to fire easier.
