    Not only is 8% casting speed helpful because you do more dps, but in certain fights, casting 8% faster can mean you actually get to cast the spell instead of getting hit and not casting the spell.

    nice video, in addition to the casting speed gained from DEX, Weapon and Talisman, there is actually another way to increases the casting speed dramatically. There are 3 spells, which has in their description "can be performed without delay after another action", they are night shard, swift glintstone shard and Carian Slicer. In fact these 3 spells can be used as the first action and combo with other spells that allows you to either rapidly cast like the Adula's Moonblade, Glintstone Arc etc. Casting those Spell directly after like swift glintstone shard will skip the prepairing time of the followed spell and let it start directly at second combo position, as if you have already casted it before and doing a flow combo.

    • @tyrusdalet
      @tyrusdalet 2 года назад +42

      This also works with Incantations when using Catch Flame! The number of skips you can do is less though, I’ve only got it to work so far with Magma Breath and Black Blade. However with Magma Breath, if you cast Catch Flame twice OR roll-cast OR sprint cast THEN cast Magma Breath, you skip the ENTIRE dragon head and immediately fire the magma

    • @tsukuyomu2313
      @tsukuyomu2313 2 года назад +16

      @@tyrusdalet yep, but the catch flame can completely cancle the whole casting animation as you mentioned, this is more likely a bug as the magma fired in that way only has the hitting range as same as catch flame. The other way to cancle incantations is to use beastial sling, which can also skip prepartion but will not cause the same issue as catch flame.

    A little bit of counterintuitive math here from a math teacher. You're not actually experiencing diminishing returns with a multiplicative reduction. Your damage per second actually goes up more with each successive reduction. In this particular case, it goes from roughly an 8% increase in damage to roughly a 17% increase in damage or the second reduction increases DPS by 9% instead of 8%. Think of it this way with easier numbers, let's say we have a 50% reduction in cast time, we would get twice as many casts. So if our first shot did a hundred a 50% reduction would up our damage to 200. If we reduce that 50% another 50% so we are down to 25%, we can actually cast four times in the same amount of time so instead of going from 100 to 200, we go from 100 to 400. That's a 300% increase instead of a 100% increase. So keep stacking as many things as you can find it's almost certainly worth it

    This makes so much more sense to me now. I was working with spells the other day and wondering why Azur's Comet wasn't really affected by Azur's Glintstone Staff. I felt the speed increase for my smaller spells like Glinstone Arc and Beastial Sling but all of my larger ones felt almost like they didn't benefit at all.
    Edit: Some of what I learned. You can bypass spell start up with the symbol by chaining other spells with the same symbol or chaining after a spell that has "can be cast without delay after an action". Night Shard can be cast without delay and let me bypass Glinstone Arc's start up. As long as I continued casting spells with the same symbols, the startup was always ignored. Beastial Sling also has "can be cast without delay after an action". In the case of beastial sling I bypassed the start up for Lightning Strike depite the two not sharing the same symbol. I also found, chaining Sorceries into Incantations and vice versa wasn't possible. Not effectively. Even using spells with "can be cast without delay after an action". I haven't tested chaining spells with "Allows 1 follow up action after" yet though so it might still be possible.
    Final Note: Spells with "can be cast without delay after an action" can be cast in the air and while on Torrent's back at full sprint.

    It's like a fighting game. Startup. Active frames. Recovery. Cast speed affects active frames and recovery, but startup remains unchanged which makes sense from a fairness perspective. Everyone gets the same amount of time to recognize the spell. But then it might come out WAY faster.
    This also serves to make the sped up portion feel better and faster, because it's still being witnessed after the original startup.
    My assumption would be that faster casting "weaker" spells that come out quicker have less startup frames and do the cast speed increase is noticeable for more of the total cast time

    When talking about speed increases and dps, stacking cast time reductions doesn’t get diminishing returns even though it’s multiplicative because the value of each percentage point of reduction increases exponentially as you approach zero.
    For example, reducing time from 1 second to .5 seconds is a 100% dps increase. But then you only need to go down another .16666 seconds to get another 100% dps, then go down another .083 seconds to get another 100% dps.
    Using multiplicative stacking, instead of adding all sources and then multiplying, is done to compensate for that exponential increase in value, so that you get a flat dps increase.

    • @Reece8u
      @Reece8u 2 года назад

      The diminishing returns comes from the cast animation that isnt shortened, since its only the startup that gets reduced. if a 2 second spell is 50% start up and 50% animation, reducing the cast time by 50% would reduce it to 1.5 seconds (assumidly, unless the reduction is based on the entire spell but only applied to the startup)

    For the staff I have compared some of them. Not counting the Prince of death staff (which scale with int and faith and it suck if you divide the stat for both i.e. only good when you have both int and faith at ridiculously high level that you no longer be able to PVP or you can but have no HP/FP/Stamina), for 80 int
    1. Lusat Staff 413 magic- the best but not really worth it because you have the second
    2. Relana Staff 373 - this one is the one, it only lose to Lusat about 10% damage but you don't pay 25% extra FP cost so it is more effective. I am not sure what "boosting all sorcery" supposed to be but it is not really effecting much. Only the magic stat that is the factor here
    3. Crystal Staff 367- This one lose to Relana about a few percent but you don't have to use her rememberance for that (however I don't think you want full moon when dark moon is straight up better). This boost crystal spell but most of them suck for the Damge/FP ratio so it is almost non-relevant. but if you use crystal spell like crystal soulstreams it is the one
    4. Azure Staff 362- This doesn't scale that well and you pay FP cost.
    5. Carian Staff 329 - It is close enough to to azure and crystal (losing 10% dmg), and it boost carian spell (and you can use it on off hand with other staff and still get the boost)
    Other staves I have no interest much since they already have worse scaling at the beginning.

    Little confused here about the recommended 10% casting speed sweet spot. Since if the talisman + staff = about 8% each but 14% together. Then with dex at 48 being 10% why would you factor in 48 dex + talisman at that point? Wouldn't that make the 48 dex + Talisman = around 15-16%? So in that case without running the numbers my guess is just for the 2% increase from dex with the talisman to get 10% wouldn't at most about 20-25 dex be enough?
    Great vid and info overall though

      Not just that, but also since there are three separate factors: dex, radagon and the staff that can affect the speed. We still don't know which of the three will be held as the base for the percentage reduction. Because there are 2 scenarios. One being the best where the game takes and puts in the 10 or 20% raw speed reduction and then based on that diminished number , apply radagon and the staff. The last two' order doesn't matter.
      The second one , which is the worst case scenario is if the game takes either one of the staff or radagon as base to reduce the 8% percentage from, and then reduce it by another 8% based on that diminished number, and that finally using the 20% on that 14%. which will make the dex buff almost negligible.

    It seems to me like almost every individual spell is affected differently by cast speed. Try out Bestial Sling, Beast Claw and Stone of Gurranq for example, the cast speed increase between 10 dex with nothing and 40 dex + Radagon Icon is MASSIVE. To the point that it turns Beast Claw from borderline unuseable into a quite decent combo tool from Bestial Sling. And chain casting Stone of Gurranq makes you feel like a tennis ball cannon. I almost feel like the Clawmark Seal should've scaled with Dex instead of Str and I'm almost certain the Dex cast speed increase for bestial incants is the reason that both Cinqueda and the Beastclaw Greathammer have decent Dex scaling.

    Dude you are the fucking man, I know just how much work this was and have a pretty damn good idea of just how long it must have taken you to crunch all the numbers, collect the footage, create the commentary, edit it all, polish and then polish again, then to publish it, making sure that it wasn't too logistical/spouting raw data, to keep it interested (which the voice definitely adds a great touch a flair,you really have a solid formula down my man 👍) that it would deter people's short attention spans (speaking in generality of course because, let's face it, this IS a video gaming community, not a university calc class after all), and I say I understand all of this because I myself began working out all of this data before coming across your video (which felt like a damn godsend after several hours and charts later of comparing several spells with different varying factors, such as you did too) and I was burnt out after just 3 hours and I only got 3 spells compared completely with their varying factors AND having confirmed my findings, with many more to go... So seriously, when I tell you I understand the amount of work you put into this, please know that I absolutely mean it when I say that dude, YOU ARE THE FUCKING MAN, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR BREAKING YOUR BALLS TO BRING US THIS INFO!!! And I really hope that everyone can appreciate your work and outstanding findings. I have a feeling if the devs watched this, they themselves would be impressed too and would be laughing as it was probably a long running team headache/joke during their long crunch times trying to polish this system up for launch with the massive amount of convolution and whatnot that this whole system is grounded in... I mean to have the fundamental basis of the whole program run this way... They must have a pretty long formula which their algorithm is running off of. After being exposed to the bones and foundation of it all, I have completely changed my tune personally from feeling like it was a broken and insanely bad system, thinking it was almost even due to laziness or focus being placed elsewhere, which felt disappointing obviously, to now seeing that with the amount that could have gone wrong, it's a miracle it runs as smooth as it does! Anyway, good damn job brotha, keep dropping this kind of content PLEASE, quality like this seems far and few between these days. 👍👍👍👍👍

    General rule for you fellow Tarnishers.... I just hit level 204 in my NG first run ( Only killed 4 Demi-Gods so far , so i did a spare time on Boosting my character ). Generally what you want to do as a Mage Build , me personally i was a Mage Build untill exactly level 180... And my Tips are :
    1- Dont use Azur's Staff its Pointless ( You are Likely to loose Damage for just a mere Casting speed and the 25% Extra FP Cost is Bullocks its meaningless literally ). What you should do is Carian Regal Scepter untill you get a Massive FP Pool ratio later on , in which where Lusat's staff gets Handy for Better damage which is Worth it later on on the Long-Run. ( Basically any character Level 200+ use Lusat's Staff so long as your Mind is atleast 40+ ).
    2- This is the most important Part here... ( Stick Radagons Icon in a Talisman Slot untill you Hit up a very High Level Cap of 180+ *Which is atleast 48 Dexterity* , in doing so your Dex at 48 exactly its already a Natural 10% Casting Speed which then later you Could/Can Sacrifice Radagon's Icon since at this Point your pretty much a Dex/INT Hybrid Class like what i'm doing ). Taking Radagon's Icon out is not a big Lose , since its just a 8% Cast Speed compared to the 10% Cast Speed from the 48 Dex Attribute.... This means you Sacrifice Radagon's Icon Slot for the Mass Graven Talisman of a 8% Sorcery Damage Increase. ( With Carian Regal Scepter at +10 you should be Hitting as Hard as Lusat's Staff +10 within the Same Casting Speed at Dex 48 ). This also means you could Negate the Extra FP consumption from Lusat's Staff aswell for a Casual Sorcerer not a Nuke Sorcerer , but eitherway you should Prioritize 70 INT atleast hitting Level 140 and at Level 180+ you also pump Dex upto 48 for the Extra 10% Cast Speed. ( Do note that Spells like Carian Slicer and Swift Glintstone Staff gets a much Higher DPS with this Cast Boost of 10% from 48 Dex , and you could always switch up Radagon's icon or put something else entirely even not equipping Azur's Staff as by this Point his staff is useless ).
    3- Here's an Overall look of my Character at Level 180 exactly ( Vigor 52 , Mind 30 , Endurance 30 , Strength 20 , Dexterity 48 , Intelligence 70 , Faith 18 , Arcane 10 ). Decently great HP at 52 Vigor you are at 1750 HP exactly , 30 Mind is 160 FP , 30 Endurance is 125 Stamina and also decent enough Equip Load that you dont need any Equip Load Talisman , 48 Dex is a nice Cast Speed and a Huge great Keen buff for my Nagakiba Main Katana weapon , at 70 INT you access all Sorcery Spells and 18 Faith is a great Baseline of Faith.... ( For now i got upto level 204 i also put more Mind level and Faith with abit of Vigor at a Hardcap of 60 ). at 70 INT your Carian Regal Scepter should be at a 330 Sorcery Scaling which is pretty nice , whatever comes Extra later put into 80 INT for the Hardcap. ( Talisman Slots are Radagon's Soreseal , Dragoncrest Shield Talisman +2 , Turtle Neck Talisman and Graven-Mass Talisman for a extra 8% Sorcery Damage ). My Final Tips are , i ended up Respecing my first initial Build where i thought Strength and INT would go well... But it turns out the Best Magic Hybrid Build is definitely Dex with INT while also having great Vigor HP , Mind FP and Endurance for Stamina and Equip Load. And most likely this Build shines really well at Exactly level 180+ being a Hybrid Dex Assassin or Samurai with a Katana , Shield , Bow and with Magical Staff and also an Incantation Seal. ( Basically at Level 180 my character is Fully strong in Melee weapon range , Ranged Spells and Incantations , with a Decent good Physical Shield and a Bow aswell ). So i'm technically a 2 Class Build character with this Build , and Casting Spells are very fast... Naturally having 10% from the 48 Dex is insane , and even if you want more you could always switch Talisman for Radagon Icon making the Casting Speed being very Swift at an increase of 18% Cast Speed this is without having Azur's Staff aswell since its not that great. ( Carian Regal Scepter and Lusat's Staff are the Best in the Game imo and best Scaling aswell... It just depends wether you want to be FP Efficient with Regal Scepter , or a strong Caster at the Cost of more FP with Lusat's Staff ). And now with the New Patch 1.03 , most Spells got Reduced FP Cost so having Lusat is Viable and unlike before... So its pretty worth it to have as Alternative Nuke option for a Mage indeed. Goodluck hope this Helps 😅💯

    I expect the pvp level to inch higher than 150 over time, probs 170 or so, as people want that one different weapon etc. when the inevitable expansions hit. That said, I've always considered either building to 24 to 30 dex or using a talisman. Talisman can be important, though, so I think sparing it for other effects might be a little more important than spell speed, especially now that it costs stamina to launch spells as well.

    I presume the discrepancy may lie in the fact it only effects phases 2 and 3 of the spell casting. So maybe what would give a consistent measure is if you only look at the time it takes to perform passes 2 and 3 and apply the cast speed reduction to that. I say that cause it seems the bow has a longer phase 1. But if they also added a multiplier to how much cast speed reduction is added to each individual spell, that’s awfully silly lol. But I think I also saw someone say cast speed has little effect on dragon incantations, and I’d imagine all of those would have a long phase one as well, so it seems like it could be a reasonable hypothesis.

    Because Moonveil exists, you're better off just stacking dex to get your cast speed to a usable level. The staff isn't worth running when the FP cost is so high and Radagons Icon gives basically nothing and trading that talisman slot for the cast speed is ultimately not worth whatsoever tbh when you can just make your stronger spells do more damage which already dramatically reduces the time you'll be fighting since you'll ultimately be doing more damage anyway. In short just get your dex up, and use the better staff and a better talisman in that slot. Don't worry about cast speed tbh

    150 is way too low, considering the amount of one hit weapons/spells/incantations, you need a lot more vigor.

    I thought that chargeable spells were more like a bar that need to be filled for max. Since spell speed affects the motions of the spell it wouldn't have much impact on charge spells since that bar had to be filled to reach max, but that is just my thought.

    So basically, dex is useless unless you get to around level 250+...because casting fast does you no good if you die in one hit or if your spells do no damage

    you're thinking about the maths wrong when you claim that stacking AS leads to diminishing returns when AS reduction scales multiplicatively (rather than additively). The return that we care about is DPS, but actually, your DPS would increase exponentially if ASreduc was additive, and still increases roughly linearly when multiplied. Think about this: say I have an initial DPS output of 100, now, at 50% reduction, my DPS would be 200, (that 50% was therefore worth 100), at 80% ASreduc, my DPS would be 500 (that next 30% is therefore worth 300), at 90% I have 1000 DPS... at 100% I have infinite DPS (and the game would crash as it tries to run that many animations XD). Conversely, if I have 10% reduc, (111 DPS) then gain (10% of 90% = 9%) so I have 19%, my DPS is 123, then (10% of 81% = 8.1%) so 27.1% which gives 137. So.. you are still getting and 11, then 12, then 14 DPS increase as you take more ASreduc.

    Question:
    You're saying that Talisman + Azure Staff + 99 Dex = 25% speed increase for glintstone pebble (12:17). However, in watching the footage, it seems like you cast glintstone pebble at the same time for both comparisons (the spell tile/icon/thing appears at basically the same time), and then the left frame shows 6 pebbles are cast in the same time as the right frame where only 5 pebbles were cast. This shows that for every 5 pebbles cast without any speed buffs, the max speed buff can produce 6 pebbles. 6/5 = 1.2, meaning the 5 pebbles increase by a factor of 1.2 (20%) when buffed. I even counted every pebble cast at the beginning and end of the pebble experiment (12:17) for both buffed and non-buffed. Again, both start at the same time and end with a pebble being cast at the same time. The non-buffed casted 15 pebbles and the buffed casted 18 pebbles which is again a factor of 1.2 (18/15 = 6/5 = 1.2).
    I assume you were looking at the total frames and weighing the differences between the two options (as you mentioned earlier in the video), but 5% seems to be a somewhat large amount of error when talking about 20% vs 25%. That being said, I did notice that the first buffed glintstone pebble fired faster vs the base version. I also noticed that the buffed spell tile appeared SLIGHTLY before the non buffed version (likely just a video syncing matter). You also mentioned that there is a small amount of error when counting specific frames and that the buffs are multiplicative, so the 25% you are saying may actually be a little less and you may just be rounding for the sake of simplicity. All of which may affect my observation a bit.
    Having said all that, I wanted to get your take on why it seems that you only get 6 pebbles cast vs 5 when unbuffed equaling 20%, not 25%. If everything was aligned perfectly at the beginning, I would have expected to see the left screen 25% of the way into casting the next glintstone pebble by the time the right screen casted its 5th pebble.
    Basically, I am wondering if you can offer any additional insights that I may not be considering above as to why this is not the case.

    Ahh so for my build using Loretta's Greatbow, I need Radagon Icon, Godfrey Icon, Arrow's Reach, and the Green Turtle Talisman, and I'm gonna say a comfortable 60 Dex. I'm doing a hybrid Archer/Caster build with Horned Bow w/ Rain of Arrows, and Black Bow w/ Barrage. I'm also using the Carian Glintblade Staff with Magic Glintblade, the previously mentioned Loretta's Greatbow, and Carian Slicer for a touch of Melee damage. I do eventually want to get Terra Magica in there to do bonus damage with Horn Bow and Loretta's Greatbow.

    This actually makes Dex really useful in Dex/Faith builds, like Flame Art Milady which means that incantations at something like 25/35 dex gives a good amount of cast speed while also increasing physical damage too

    I would like to see the staff comparison video you have planned. I’ve heard that the Lusat staff is bugged and does not actually increase sorcery damage past basic scaling. That means the extra 50% cost is completely wasted while using that staff.

    Scaling multiplicatively does NOT mean there's diminishing returns, the number itself is smaller but the impact of the number is greater. It's why it's important to make sure any mechanic that scales downwards scales multiplicatively, say because applying 50% damage reduction 2 times making you infinitely tanky, which is obviously broken. Similarly, going from 3.8 seconds cast time to 1.9s cast time is obviously not even nearly as good as going from 1.9s to 0s, as the latter practically makes you a god.

    Uh... A lot of this is wrong.
    First off, int has a hard cap of 99 just like every other attribute in every other Fromsoft game. It has a softcap of 80 which is where the diminishing returns are so harsh that it's hard to justify the further investment, but the game still lets you put points into it. Not sure who told you that the game literally doesn't let you raise it above 80, since that's what hard cap means, but that's very wrong.
    Second, and possibly more importantly, radagon's icon ABSOLUTELY effects the wind up time of some spell. The two that I know of first hand are the first beast spell (I forget what it's called... The pocket sand one) and lightning spear. They come out wayyyyy quicker when uncharged using radagon's icon, but it doesn't seem to decrease the charge time on lightning spear any from my brief testing.
    I'm pretty sure sorceries and incantations are handled differently for some reason. I think this video is mostly right about sorceries, but is completely useless when discussing the effects on incantations.

    6:20 this is actually a more important point than you realize, as that's the case for many incantations, like lightning spear.
