I need help please. I have PMR and I’ve been on prednisone for a year that has helped with my pain but I’m hating the side effects from steroids. I started WFPB eating on 1/1/24 and loving eating this way. I thought maybe eating this way would help me get off the steroids faster but it’s not been the case. I’ve worked my way down to 4.5mg of prednisone from 60mg but can’t seem to get below that, so my rheumatologist has started me on sulfasalazine so yet another pill in hopes to get odd prednisone faster. Could you give me suggestion as to how I can do this without so many meds. They say I can’t just quit the steroids or it will damage my adrenaline glands.

Are you doing this at %100 AND no oil? Its oils as well. Any oil. No oils of any kind.

      Is this a typo?
60mg down to 4.5mg in less than 2 months?
If that is accurate, that's an amazing result.
You may just need to add time and patience into your recovery🤔
And as another commenter said, make sure you are 100% into the diet to give it a chance. Absolutely no added oils, and go lightly on the added salt and added sugar.

Like I said at the beginning of my message, I’ve been on prednisone for a year this month so it’s taking me a year to get from 60 mg to 4 1/2 and I’m doing no oils

@@maryleejones3037 Ok, I got the impression that you'd reduced it since 1-1-24 when you started WFPB.
I can only suggest patience. Coming of steroids has always been a slow job.
Make sure your doctor knows your goal is to stop the meds. If he says that's not possible, you might be with the wrong doctor.
My wife has been on steroids for over 10 years, and has been WFPB all that time. It helps her keep the meds at a dose way below the recommended amount, but she's been unable to stop them altogether.

Only a doctor can help you with this problem, and it looks like you're making progress.
This way of eating may help with your PMR, but the prednisone will also send your blood sugars sky high. It's a good news/bad news kind of thing. Keep up with the program, and stick with it. No added oils is great; cutting out processed foods is another factor that will help. Give it time.
