The amount of material you and your team has to go through to make a single video must be massive. You guys present it in such a simple way. Hats-off 👍
@@utubehandlepr This video doesn't cite any actual studies, just legalese and marketing terms created by policies of one government. And there are real studies on effects of eggs as part of various diets like the Mediterranean diet
@Somar Chimon your body naturally produces Cholesterol - consuming of high amounts of trans fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol increases the amount of bad cholesterol in your body. Some health organisations recommend staying under 300mg of cholesterol per day, whilst eggs have about 1000mg of cholesterol minimum and about 1.2 - 3.1 grams of saturated fat. If you compare a medium egg to half a cup of (black) beans, the egg (at about 80 calories) has saturated fat and cholesterol, some B vitamins, minerals like selenium, but the protein content is higher in the beans (approx 120 calories), and there's no cholesterol or sat fats. The beans are slightly lower in B vitamins, but higher in minerals. You do not need to consume cholesterol for a healthy diet as a vegetarian, but you could do more research on where to get protein other than eggs.
The founders of modern vegetarianism/veganism didn't get heart disease or cancer but they did get Parkinson's which severely restricted their mobility in later years. Blood tests showed they had not a drop of DHA despite having eaten plenty of nuts n seeds www.i-nhs.com/inhs/vegan-parkinsons.html
Haven't had a egg since 2004, and I loved eggs. It took a heart attack and a triple by-pass to wake me up. People just can't seem to understand that and dairy is not good for you. I told this to a friend of over 40 yrs. from Wisconsin, and he quit emailing me. Many people just don't want to hear the truth.
Eggs and dairy have more saturated fat than most meats, yet they account for the majority of saturated fat in Americans diet and are the last foods most people would consider giving up.
@@serenapena7984 if you continue to watch the videos on this channel you will quickly see that the scientific evidence does not support your assertion.
+Rich Tremblay Unethical people-whether they are friends, family members, or strangers-should not be advising ethical people on how to live their lives. You need to do what you now know to be true. So don't let others bring you down. Misery loves company; those who still eat meat, dairy and eggs are drowning in misery, and would love some company. So stay strong. The animals are counting on you to make compassionate decisions.
It's not what Dr. Eric Berg says. Organic eggs are healthy. People have been eating them for millenia everyday, including my great-grandmother who lived until she was 94 and died of a fall, disease free, and worked until her last day in the field where she grew her food. Conventionally grown eggs, filled with chemicals, are indeed dangerous. Eggs grown by farmers aren't. I'm a ovo-vegetarian but you vegans sure love to scare people up wth biased reports which only mention one side of the equation.
This week’s most popular video was on my Freedom of Information Act bombshell about the USDA and the egg industry: nutritionfacts.org/video/who-says-eggs-arent-healthy-or-safe/
Heyy I was just wondering if organic, cage free egg WHITES from hard boiled eggs would be considered healthy and safe...? Is all of the cholesterol and salmonella found in the yolk or is salmonella contained throughout the egg?? Hope these questions don't sound to stupid!!
Why would we listen to anything the US government has to say about "safe" or "healthy" food anyway? The USDA is bought, paid for and run by pharmaceutical company's they want fat sick and unhealthy Americans.... and it's working.
Wade McFarland Actually, the USDA is bought by Monsanto. FDA is the servant of the pharmaceutical companies. Like you said, any information on health and diet that comes from the government is not right. Most of it isn't even wrong.
***** so... if something were proven once, it should be impossible to consider it proven already? I'd say context is both wider and more complex than you give it credit for being . Common sense dictates that to keep several trillion non-human vertebrate land-animals alive artificially for food *in addition to* looking out for the interests of billions of living humans simultaneously is a fool's errand.
Omg🙄seriously, a chicken is a bird, not a mammal🙄 birds to not develop a uterine lining, so they do not have a period. Laying an egg and shedding a uterine lining are two completely different things🤦♀️ Pretty pathetic that you have to resort to trying to gross someone out to get them to stop eating eggs. Please take a human biology class because you are very confused if you think we are birds🤔
Because we all know the FDA is the most accurate source of nutritional information and always knows best. The same people that would use this as evidence would turn around and call the FDA out on recommending things like meat in the diet. You can't both use them as a source of authority and then refute them as one.
The "source of authority" are the many studies upon which these guidelines on truth in advertising are based. The USDA is helping the egg people from future litigation with their suggestions. They're still on the same side. That is why these documents were not public, and are blacked out.
obviously you are not bright enough to understand what this is about.. let me shed some light for you.... The USDA is "allocating funds" to promote meat & Dairy....(this is because our political system is so broken the politics and power of the Multi trillion dollar meat & dairy industries)...so the USDA plays the role of "policing" how those funds are used.....what is being pointed out here is the government knows that eggs are unhealthy and therefore does not allow them to be advertised as such. the "Reason" the government knows they are unhealthy is because of hundreds of studies that have been done by accredited organizations and individuals that are verifiable that show this to be the facts.... I have personally read hundreds of them myself...have you? somehow based on your comment I doubt it... so just STFU you have no clue ya troll :) now in 2019 let me also call your attention to the "slow Progression" as I call it that the food pyramid now does not say X servings of "meat" it said X servings of Meat, beans, legumes....because they are slowly weening the public off the meat & dairy and trickling the info out so as not to bring multi trillion dollar industries to a grinding halt......the facts are still the facts....lol
I take exception to the idea you can't call eggs high in protein. The average egg is 76 calories and contains around 5.5g of protein. Each gram of protein is 4 calories, meaning that each average egg is around 29% protein calories. This is only "low" in protein compared to milk, cheese and meats and it's not very far off of milk and cheese at all. Compared to every fruit, vegetable, nut, bean and seed that I've ever looked at, eggs are high in protein. High and low are relative terms. Compared to White Crab meat or Haddock, Chicken breast is "low" in protein, but who in their right mind would call chicken breast a low protein food..?
This is a jaw dropper. Thank you. I haven't eaten eggs in years, and this helps me talk to others about why they shouldn't be a part of anyone's breakfast EVEN if those people don't care about the animals.
Eating more eggs will allow the liver to rest from making cholesterol of which it makes only 75% of the body's daily needs anyway. Does Greger know this? No bcz he's a doofus
Those that don't wana eat eggs, I beg you please don't !!! Less for you = more for those that really do want, love n appreciate them. Lettuce bee kind to our animals 💝
So what “Ohhh the animals” Ok we’re all animals it’s just like that sorry. The cycle of life, but yeah I do agree that animals unnecessarily suffer And even if I do consume meat that is local and I hunt for bison meat and venison On a large scale that is not sustainable, so we’re stuck.
I can watch these videos all day, doctor. Thanks for the great research, succinct conclusions, great editing, etc. Please continue to cover more topics you may have not already! Thanks!
It's interesting that Japan is the country with the highest egg consumption rate in the world. They also have the highest life expectancy, a low cancer rate and one of the lowest obesity rates in the world.
+matchbox555 did you watch supersize me? there is a part where it gets mentioned, too. but i will try to explain it myself (but excuse my not so good english skills): the government supports industries by advertising them and also by subsidies, which helps them to keep the prices of their items down, so people consume more than they should or naturally would. when consumers buys more, the industry gets more money. and when the industry gets more they can pay the government a lot of money back in form of taxes. this is the simpliest form to explain it. there are a lot of other things playing a big role such as the pharmacy lobby. by allowing a lot of unhealthy food to be sold, people get sick more quickly, so they have to buy medication etc. like for allergies, diabetes or obesity. to conclude: for the government it is an investment to get more money back. btw the government also subsidize banks, although they have already a lot of money. so it is about lobbyism, monopolism and control. you need the government for that and the government needs those industries. so practically they help each other to keep everything under control. and by that i mean our system. the system we live in is a consumer society and when people stop consuming a lot, our system the way it is now, would fall apart. it is a circulation they try to keep in progress.
I just pulled up the "incredible egg" website. Looks like the egg board is still operating under the same constraints shown in this video. Here is a little tidbit. "Eggs are all-natural and packed with a number of nutrients. One egg has 13 essential vitamins and minerals in varying amounts, high-quality protein and antioxidants, all for 70 calories." It's amusing the to see them try to make eggs sound healthy without being able to say that they are healthy. If the government really did change it's tune on eggs; why does the egg board have to play such word gymnastics?
TeleTrans 1 Because HURR DURR SAT FATS=BAD. But sugar and carbs are a okay! The USDA and FDA still goes by with that dated 1977 food pyramid thing and they don't plan on changing that anytime soon.
Two comments: 1 - What about the HDL vs LDL argument? 2 - About salmonella, while in the U.S. it is unsafe to eat under-cooked or raw eggs, in Japan it is the norm to eat raw and under-cooked eggs. Any comments on that?
My body told me eggs are unhealthy. Every time I tried to eat them a few hours later I'd be so sick. I used to love eggs and could eat them daily until I began to get sick after eating them , suddenly even my taste buds refused them.
I guess I'm glad that the industry isn't allowed to lie with taxpayer dollars but why do they have access to taxpayer dollars for marketing purposes to begin with? These are all for-profit entities no different from any other. This is small potatoes compared to the subsidies the animal agriculture industry gets for the purpose of production but it's ridiculous that in addition to lowering their costs, they also get a government-funded marketing budget.
This absolutely blows my mind! How can they still legally sell these things to people without AT LEAST cigarette packet type warnings??... :/ So glad I have given up eggs and all other animal products thanks to Dr Greger :)
"Can reduce hunger". Lol! So can cotton balls! I need to send this to my mom. She eats relatively healthy but has high cholesterol because she likes eggs. I've been telling her for years the saturated fat and cholesterol in eggs means it's not a health food.
Yes, that is correct. If you feed someone with a cholesterol of 300 5 eggs, cholesterol will not raise a bit. However feed someone who has a total cholesterol below 150 (basically heart attack proof) the same eggs and their cholesterol will spike quickly well into the 200's. That's how the egg people design their studies. Clever trick, but the story remains unchanged: there is never a need to eat cholesterol. It is super bad for you.
Seems to me that the USDA is out of touch when it comes to saying what is nutritious. Still worried about the cholesterol and saturated fat in eggs, rather than the sugar in breakfast cereals. I rather eat an3 egg omelette with arugula than a bowl of "nutritious" cornflakes. Or your favorite healthy wheat cereal. Not that many people eat cereals, eat 3/4ths cup. 🙄. All that sugar in that bowl. Lol
The government telling me that eggs aren't safe....??? That must mean they're the best possible thing you could eat. I love eating eggs as much as I can. I pick organic ones up from a small local farm. I've never been sick or had any bad side effects from eating eggs. I'm strong and healthy, eggs give me all sorts of energy to work hard all day. Help your health and community, go out and buy local eggs!
You can say they're keto friendly. You can say they're carb free, they don't cause an insulin response. They also have pasteurized eggs, they are safe. Dietary cholesterol does not readily affect cholesterol in your blood. You can also eat them yolk free and you can also eat egg product which removes all the negatives of eggs.
I'm confused. It seems all this video does is show what can be legally said about a specific food product. There is zero evidence whatsoever stating that they are correct about this, or even the reason they are saying it. This video does not address what nearly everyone in the comments section is saying it does. Even if eggs are proven to be unsafe, this video is of no help in that argument. USDA and other companies are just trying to protect themselves from lawsuits. Meaning, if there is even a slight possibility of something, or past instances of something, they are going to safeguard against that. It could be proven that eggs are the best food you could possibly eat, but as long as there is a risk of salmonella (or something else), they are going to protect themselves. Everyone knows exercise is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Imagine you owned a gym and told every single person that they should keep exercising. Then one of your clients gets injured or dies while exercising. Then their family sues you because you told them it was the best thing for them, and it actually killed them, and you lose everything. Don't you think you would alter the way you advertise the benefits going forward? To guard yourself against another lawsuit? They don't want to say eggs are "safe" because they may not be "safe" for everyone. And if they say they are safe and someone gets sick, it becomes their fault.
You're probably not over 40 if you're confused by this video. We'll talk when you're over 40. Or even better, your doctor will talk to you. Maybe you'll be less confused then. Remember my post. No amount of exercise can save you if you eat crap, and vice versa. Actually, in some cases, overexercising can nicely kill you, especially if your cholesterol levels are high. That's why real pro athletes eat low cholesterol food and healthy food, not eggs and bacon. High bad cholesterol levels also impacts your performance greatly.
no. that was a perfect explanation. the egg industry must do so 4 legal issues. - ive eaten 5+ eggs per day 4 yrs & have normal cholesterol. - & i bet there's been studies that show likewise. ie humans arent bunnies, we CAN digest fat without harm. but its not a panacea.
"Normal cholesterol is where majority of heart attacks occurred. The medical profession settle on 200 mg/dl so you can eat "meat". It cholesterol level below 150mg/dl that shown NO ONE has heart attack; and that level can only obtained with a vegan diet. Many vegan have cholesterol level of 120-130mg/dl.
Yes, the standards are based on the lipid hypothesis which was thrown out decades ago, thus people fear cholesterol so eggs cannot be called healthy, but they are healthy for the general population based on quality and quantity.
Would be interested to see if other industries like fruit/vegetable are also subject to this sort of thing. Maybe they are just protecting themselves from being sued. Even if the risk is way below 1%
I would love to see some FOI and USDA research on meat in general...is this why meat's "protein" was pushed so hard? I don't ever recall meat being called nutritious or healthy...only that it is a good source of complete protein, which is a correct statement. Of course there are "other" forms of complete protein, but it is a true statement none the less. Please research and share :)
+Dennys Bulnes Campos Yes. Constant egg production drains chickens of calcium and shortens their lives. Beaks are cut, they're crammed into cages, and much, much more than I care to go into detail. There's plenty of information online
Mikes Law Debatable. Laying eggs is taxing on a chicken's body because of the nutrients its body is drained of to produce said egg. Chickens are supposed cannibalize their eggs in order to regain some of those nutrients
A 20 year Finnish study found that 2000 men who ate at least 5 eggs a week had lower risk of diabetes compared to those who ate 1 or less. Lifestyle habits were factored in. They also found that high fat dairy such as cheese had 23% lower risk of the disease. But they found that red meat intake increased the risk. One researcher said that the contradiction to other studies may be because high egg eaters generally live less healthy lives (smoking, other bad diet choices etc.) and were not taken into account. I'm sure Greger would ignore the egg, and dairy part of the study.
+quakerlyster You could easily find evidence for the contrary. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20471806 You have to eat something. It's important to look at what they did not eat if they ate eggs. In a healthier population, eggs would probably be an unhealthy contribution to the diet.
Eggs are good for you. Eggs are healthy. Eggs are rich in protein and vitamins and omega 3 fatty acids. Eggs are nutritious! Eggs keep you full and satisfied for hours. Eggs are delicious.
You ate less of everything else (fruit and vegetables?) So now you may weigh less but risk of disease still higher than if you didn't eat loads of eggs, I think.
I believe that as a child I had the right instinct about animal foods, didn't really like any and HATED eggs (and milk!). My mother insisted on giving me soft-boiled eggs but they grossed me out, and when that runny yolk got cold if I put any in my mouth I'd wretch so she eventually gave up. When I grew up I more or less could stand them scrambled and in an omelette but I usually had to put onions or other stuff in them because I disliked the smell. I also could eat them fried once in a while but the yolk had to be completely cooked. The only reason I ate them at all was because I thought they were "healthy" and since they don't digest easily when I did Atkins I ate them sometimes but can't say I ever found them "delicious". Most of the time I felt eating eggs once a month was plenty for me, so when I decided to change my diet last December I was more than happy to "give up" eggs (along with meat, then the few dairy products I ate 5 weeks later), I even forgot I had an almost entire carton in the fridge so it just had to go to the trash. I now feel so liberated I wish I'd made that decision years ago!
This video says more about corporate spin and government regulation than it does about eggs. Nobody is hearing for the first time that eggs are high in fat and cholesterol in this video. I've seen no evidence that it is unhealthy in any practical sense of the word to include eggs in your diet. Clearly, moderation is called for, as it is with anything you put in your body.
***** I am skeptical that eggs are in any way bad for you, unless you have egg allergies of course. I know links won't work, but do you have any keywords for a study that states that they are bad?
***** Yes, we know eggs contain cholesterol. But where is the proof it is harmful? If you re-read Berendo's comment, it is studies showing that they are bad we all would like to see... studies like the ones this doctor links to in his debunking of the common misunderstandings of cholesterol. eatingacademy.com/nutrition/the-straight-dope-on-cholesterol-part-i
Dr Greger, I've been a big fan of your work. Like many people, I'm confused about all the conflicting information in nutrition these days. I saw you on the Netflix doc What the Health. While your arguments are not without merit or evidence, I think it's more prudent to take a Bayesian approach to answer whether eggs are healthy or not. By this I mean that common sense says if we have 100 studies on egg intake vs mortality, and say, 95 of them show something akin to "eggs show no negative association with CVD", and 5 show something akin to "eggs ARE positively associated with CVD", then what should we conclude? As a Bayesian, my posterior belief updates whenever I see new evidence that either supports or refutes my prior belief. So let's say our prior belief is that eggs are bad for you. If we see several studies directly refuting that finding, we should update our belief in the opposite direction. Do a quick search on scholar.google.com for "eggs cardiovascular disease" or "eggs mortality". The top several studies all show a recurring motif: no association So while I generally applaud your overall theme of encouraging people to adopt a more plant-based diet, there doesn't seem to be much evidence indicating that eggs are bad.
@@jedmaple I wasn't joking at all. I'm a scientist as well and one of the tenants of science is to look at the data and let it inform and update one's beliefs. The majority of data provided by myriad research papers shows there's either little or no correlation between egg consumption and cardiovascular disease. Don't take my word for it. Read the literature yourself and you'll see the same finding Why would you misinterpret me as joking?
@@RedShipsofSpainAgain Seriously, stop it. I almost peed my pants, I was laughing so hard. If you want to believe in moonbeams and fairytales, who am I to intrude. I'm guessing those scientists at the USDA know less than you. Guess they didn't go to the right scientist school. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
@@mikestaalleeenergysystems2824 ok I'll bite. Since when is evidence based scientific data considered "moonbeams and fairytales"? If one article says eggs are not harmful, I wouldn't give it much thought. But when dozens and dozens of scientific papers are finding that same conclusion, we should probably take that finding more credibly.
I’ve watched a handful of these videos. Okay, maybe four handfuls of these videos. I applaud you, standing ovation Dr. Gregor. This topic, the research and all of your hard work for this just raised the ceiling. It’s not hard to believe that the USDA is corrupt, but you filled in all of the blanks. We cannot be fooled! Thank you for all that you do. If I was a billionaire- heck if I was half a millionaire I would throw all my money at you. But my measly self can only like, share, comment, and spread the word. Thank you thank you thank you.
Following the logic of less than 1g saturated fat per 100g pretty much all nuts are considered unhealthy, including Greger's favourite, walnuts. I'm not sure this back and forth of censoring certain words is a good case against eggs...
Hi Doc, thanks for sharing your research and correspondence. I do notice though that Eggland’s Best lists all the vitamins and the amount of Omega 3 on the outside of the packages of white and brown eggs and claims to have 25% less saturated fat than regular eggs.
It must be eggravating to know I'm 42 6 foot with 15 percent bf eat 8 or 10 eggs a day and load 4 plates on everything that matters while having below normal cholesterol levels. You either got it or you don't.
+13thGh0st We do know and have known for decades, but the meat and dairy industry in western countries is absolutely massive and rich, happy to spend billions to make sure the average american gets their 2 eggs every morning, their burger for lunch, and their steak for dinner.
13thGh0st For the majority of my childhood I ate a lot of eggs, and also eggs. After learning about the many reasons why I should never consume eggs or milk again I weened myself off dairy in the span of about a month. Now I'm completely vegan and I have no cravings for eggs or milk at all.
+Joshua Muller About a month? Did you have any withdrawal symptoms? A month ladies and gentlemen. The courage and whatever I applaud. I have to go now.My bacon and eggs, and I slipped in some toast and coffee, await.
Mark Anthony Hey we all have our vices, some adults like sex, drugs or alcohol, some children can't possibly go without their yummy yummy eggies and bacon!
People talk about how we've been eating eggs for thousands of years except evolution doesn't work that quickly. Eggs (and dairy) weren't part of the diet we developed our digestive systems for around one million years ago.
+Jon Boll So because they didn't eat eggs they only ate Celery? Seems like you need to expand your dietary spectrum. Humans a millennium ago ate diets rich in starches, fruits, roots, legumes and vegetables. Some cultures utilized meats and dairy but for the most part these were rare up until the invention of agriculture. Meat and dairy are incredibly inefficient to produce, they require lots of water and grains people could otherwise be consuming themselves. Yes meat and dairy are good sources of calories in the short term, but we're more concerned with the attritional affects which over time significantly increase the chance of many forms of cancer and disease.
I watched my grandparents eat local farm eggs all of there lives and live to be ripe old ages. And they loved there sweets. True, they walked a lot and ate mostly whole foods and rarely indulged in alcohol. Grand dad smoked until he hit 40's. Passed away at 85. Grand ma 90.
Thanks !! I was going to say something about my grandpa my didn't get around to it. My grandpa would have been 100 years old if he had lived but he died at 80. He also use to eat high fat and high protein but very low carb. But my dad is diabetic but his diet was high carb.
joseph jacovino The point was Eggs are a WHOLE FOOD that people have eaten for EONS and most people have eaten them every single day. I still think the EGG industry is getting a BAD RAP because of Everything else that is NOT whole food that contributes to Health ISSUES from lack of Exercise, and Poor Attitude like yours that leads to depression and well being. I have nothing to do with the “EGG INDUSTRY” but will stick up for WHOLE FOODs anyday over what 90% of people are doing now going out to eat at drive thru’s. and Candy bars, and so called Smoothies making AMERICA FAT
Except the Lipid Hypothesis ( the idea that dietary fat consumption is related to heart disease in general) was discredited in 2010, and multiple times since. Ancel Keys hand-picked his 7 Countries Study out of 22 countries that in some cases showed the exact opposite. His regression analysis also failed to rule out sugar consumption, which we now know is the real culprit. This study was funded by the Corn Refiners Association and supported by the USDA. Cholesterol is another myth: the original study was done on rabbits (a herbivore). Of course they will become sick if you force them to eat something they cannot process. The same study was repeated with dogs and rats (omnivorous) and no adverse effects were seen at all. It is also notable that dietary cholesterol is NOT absorbed as is. It is digested and broken down into fatty acid components. Your cholesterol is made by your body, and is specific to your species. You cannot use fish cholesterol, for example. It's a fatty alcohol whose function is to protect and repair arterial walls, by the way. Blaming cholesterol for CVD is like blaming the firemen for the fire they came to put out. Inflammation and browning of artery walls is your culprit, not the liquid your body secretes to repair it. Over the 40+ years following the USDA's so called "guidelines", americans were asked to reduce fat consumption from all sources. They did. The average percentage of calories from fat was 45% in 1910, with less than 8% obesity. This was reduced by 11% over 30 years, and the result was a 20-fold increase in obesity, diabetes, CVD and other parts of the metabolic syndrome. Replacing lard with margarine was pretty much collective suicide. This assessment is based on 1970's disinformation propagated by the USDA and the Corn Refiners Association to promote the rise of grain-based and processed commodities. The result is what you see today. The last entity I trust to provide this kind of information is the USDA.
+Aethren The majority of corn produced in the US is fed to livestock; increased livestock consumption directly benefits corn producers. I don't see why the Corn Refiners Association would be involved in some sort of conspiracy to reduce animal product consumption, the motive simply doesn't seem to be there. In addition, meat consumption per capita has increased every decade since Keys first asserted his hypothesis. Sugar consumption is certainly a problem, and unfortunately the recommendations by the DOH, AHA, and USDA aren't heeded and people have partially displaced unhealthy saturated fats with unhealthy sodas, fruit and sports drinks, candy, chips, and baked snacks over the preceding decades. Nobody from the USDA, Department of Health, or American Heart Asssociation is arguing that this should be done, and it's certainly detrimental to one's health. Furthermore, total meat consumption has increased by 57 pounds per person since the 1950s, contrary to what many low-carb folks espouse. Just because the DOH has particular dietary guidelines does not mean that the population necessarily adheres to them. The data you provided is partially incorrect. Fat as a percentage of calories was 45% in 1910, yes; over the following 30 years rates of obesity, diabetes and CVD increased, yes; but fat as a percentage of calories remained constant at 45% until 1965, and it was over the following 30 years, from 1965 to 1995, that it decreased by 11%, to 34%. While the percentage of calories coming from fat declined in relative terms, total fat consumption did not decline by that same amount, as calorie intake has grown. Margarine is demonstrably unhealthy, but that doesn't make lard any healthier, nor does it change the percentage of calories sourced from fat overall to switch between the two. Trans fats can be found in many animal products, as well, including beef and dairy, and trans fat use in the form of hydrogenated oils actually peaked in the 1960s and declined thereafter. Your points about cholesterol are confusing. Serum cholesterol is one of the clearest measures we have to determine one's cardiovascular health. In summary, you stated that dietary cholesterol isn't readily turned into serum cholesterol, which, while true, is misleading. Cholesterol intake is correlated with a particular dietary pattern that is high in saturated fat and low in fiber. Cholesterol is found only in animal products which are high in saturated fat and contain no fiber, and thus higher cholesterol intake generally means more saturated fat intake and a necessary displacement of dietary fiber. Arterial health is degraded by intake of certain fatty and inflammatory foods, motivating the body to repair the damage with cholesterol. There is a correlation between dietary cholesterol and serum cholesterol, though it doesn't seem to be causative. Chicken has displaced beef in gross weight output per capita in the US since the 1970s. I feel there is a strong chance that this switch from beef to poultry has partially contributed to the lowering of calories consumed from fat since 1965. Chicken, though, is associated with weight gain despite being low in saturated fat, and this could contribute to obesity in the US, as well. Additionally, it seems that over the last century, and especially over the last few decades, chickens have been growing increasingly obese and their protein content has been decreasing relative to fat. This is perhaps a result of adenovirus serotype 36, or AD-36 infection among chicken populations, which is transmittable to humans and is the only known virus with a positive correlation with obesity. It could also be due to artificial selective breeding to select for the fastest growing and largest chickens. Nutrition and health is complex, and becomes more difficult on an individual basis. The association between coronary health and saturated fat intake is only one single factor. As you mentioned, it doesn't help to replace it with soda, but eating nuts in place of meat or eggs is regarded as a positive dietary choice by most health professionals and organizations. Feeding corn to livestock isn't as lucrative as selling HFCS around the world, I would assume. Pushing the replacement of animal fats with vegetable oils directly benefits the agricultural establishment, even if they sell a lot of grain to feed livestock. Kind of like the providing weapons for 2 sides of a war, see? Anyways, yes, serum cholesterol is a more or less decent marker (although LDL to HDL ratio is far better than total cholesterol at showing risk), but correlation does not mean causation. Inflammatory processes cause arterial walls to suffer damage, and your liver produces cholesterol to attempt a repair. Also, fructose (which is 55% of sugar by weight), cannot be metabolized by any tissue other than the liver, and the final product are liver fat droplets and VLDL. This alone has a far greater impact on serum cholesterol, and it's ratio, than dietary cholesterol consumption. Cholesterol and saturated fat intake in some populations are huge, yet these did not suffer from chronic CVD and diabetes until they switched to our modern diet (Innuits, for instance). The chicken fact is an interesting one. A possible cause might be the increase in use of antibiotics and hormones to force a chick to mature faster and fatter, for profit. It is related to weight gain, yes, but the data is skewed: KFC-style deep fries and dark meat parts a favorite for most people. Consumption of breast with little to no added fat (aka bodybuilder chicken) is still a staple in most protein diets for athletes and correlates with gains in lean mass and a drop in bodyfat %. (again, correlation, not causation) I'm not arguing that nuts and certain cold-pressed oils aren't healthy, nor that saturated fat is the holy grail of nutrition by any means, but it's a necessary part of a healthy diet, in decent amounts. Consuming all your fats as mono/poly-unsaturated will cause problems with immune function, synapse formation, joints, hormones etc. Demonizing the fat has not worked for 50 years, and wont work now. 5 eggs for breakfast will always be healthier than sugar-frosted cereal, or most processed food. An interesting point, however is that although fat slows sugar absorption, it actually increases insulin spikes when consumed WITH sugars, which can lead to insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. So if you decide to eat bacon and egges, dont have the OJ and the Syrup in the same meal. Your liver will thank you NOTE: The last part of the Keys link you posted actually comments on cholesterol. Interesting.
Aethren The animal products industry has significantly more power than the grain lobby in the US, I disagree. HFCS is unhealthy, like sugar, and is sold around the world, though it's only lucrative due to agricultural subsidies for corn here, mainly lobbied for by the livestock industry, which lead to agricultural price distortions in world markets. LDL is implicated directly with the buildup of plaque along the artery walls, but measurement of the ratio of LDL to HDL is only one risk factor. Table sugar and HFCS of a particular variety are 55% fructose by weight. I, nor any physician, argue for more consumption of refined sugars. The sugars in whole foods function differently in the body than table sugar and HFCS, however. Hundreds of studies show that saturated fat has the greatest impact, by far, on LDL levels and the impact of its marginal consumption on LDL measurements can be accurately predicted. Unlike the lipid hypothesis, the Inuit Paradox has actually been "discredited." The old data was based on hospital records while most Inuit people died of unknown causes due to being located far from a hospital. Everything you've said regarding beneficial effects of saturated fat is untrue. Not only are saturated fats no "holy grail" of nutrition, but there is NO need for saturated fat in the diet whatsoever, the only EFAs (essential fatty acids) are polyunsaturated: linoleic acid, LA and alpha linoleic acid, ALA. The human body derives no benefit from the consumption of saturated fatty acids, believing that it does is ignoring decades of scientific evidence to the contrary and the advice of the most respected medical professionals in the field of human health. Eggs are NOT healthy, and they aren't even allowed to be marketed as "healthy" by law because they're so unhealthy. You're presenting a false dichotomy between sugar-laden cereals and animal products, and I've reiterated multiple times that replacement of animal products with processed foods like that is not beneficial. There are fruits, legumes, vegetables, and grains that one could (and should) eat for breakfast, instead, as I do. "Demonizing the fat" hasn't worked because people haven't actually heeded the dietary recommendations and the animal products industry is very pervasive in its attempts to undermine progress in nutritional research. Lastly, in regard to insulin spikes, they actually occur with animal protein consumption even without any simultaneous carbohydrate consumption. The phytonutrients in fruit blunt insulin spikes, and cutting them out would likely worsen the effect, though the orange example you gave should be consumed in whole fruit form rather than as juice. A breakfast of bacon and eggs is not good for you, I'm afraid you're very confused and have been misled by borderline fraudulent studies including the 2010 one you mentioned; I tried to be more kind before but your belligerence must be responded to more aggressively, I'm afraid.
I'm not even going to waste time researching sources myself for a sidenote youtube reply. Believe what you will, but meat and dairy have been part of human evolution for hundreds of thousands of years, whereas agriculture and especially grain consumption dates back to some 11.000 years ago. I find it hard to argue with evolutionary adaptation, tbh. Nevertheless, this article, though simplistic, has a wealth of sources and citations. greatist.com/health/saturated-fat-healthy Yes, lowering saturated fat consumption lowers LDL-A particles, but the B particles are the ones responsible for plaque formation for the most part. Those are lowered mostly by controlling carb intake (shocker). Next couple decades should come up with a definitive answer, I think. For now, I'm having my eggs. As a sidenote, pushing for grain consumption has been pretty disastrous for the last 50 years, just sayin'.
Aethren Evolutionary adaptation as an argument doesn't really hold weight in nutritional recommendations. Human beings can adapt to a diet of zebra cakes, doritos, candy, and soda, if necessary, (as I may or may not have done during my teenage years). Nahhh.. LDL size means very little. Small, dense LDL is more closely linked to heart disease than large LDL, but both raise the risk of heart disease. There is no "good" LDL, both are bad, but LDL-B is slightly worse than LDL-A. The article you linked is based on the 2010 meta-analysis of 21 studies, I actually pointed out this study in an earlier reply. This study is essentially fraudulent, I linked a partial rebuttal by the Harvard School of Public Health chairman in my first reply to you, who points out some of the study's blatant errors and omissions. I would go one step further and say the study is grossly misleading or outright fraudulent, especially in how it was promulgated through the media. In order to understand this, it's necessary to understand how we know saturated fat causes heart disease. The way we know is not through epidemiological data showing a correlation between saturated fat consumption and LDL, but through dietary change experiments where saturated fat is implicated in changes in serum cholesterol. But on an individual level, two different people will naturally have different cholesterol levels, it just depends on the person. We've known since 1979 that looking at cross-sectional studies is not sufficient to observe cholesterol in populations, and we must use different methods for this (dietary change experiments, mainly). This 2010 meta-analysis looked at all the cross-sectional epidemiological (weakest) data and compiled it to make it seem as though there is no link between saturated fat and heart disease. Indeed, through this measurement, there is none, as cholesterol levels are random throughout populations of people. A baseline must be established to be measured against to test for cholesterol. This study has been very destructive for public health, sadly, as it's led to a great deal of confusion about what causes heart disease. Hey, the answer is here, and we've had it for decades! We know already, people just aren't responding to medical advice, many of them are confused or they simply don't want to change their lifestyles. Smoking, saturated fat, and a sedentary lifestyle are three of the biggest risk factors we know of. Letting even one of them get out of control can have negative health impacts.
1- in many of these sentences it says "egg products", not "eggs". 2- FDA's requirements can be questionable, too. 3- USDA's requirements can be questionable, too.
In many of these "eggs" are referred directly such as in 3:13. And I trust FDA more than big corporations who have direct interest in labeling eggs as healthy
@@yuliusseraph4973 You dont have to trust big corporations, you have to trust nature. In nature, animals eat other animals eggs when they found them. You can just also take a look of its vitamin content, amino acid profile and decide if its nutritious or not for yourself, without the help of the gov.
Thank you for this video: thoughtful, well-informed and highly crafted irony used to target and dismantle the corporate-driven, media-amplified manipulation of minds.
Interesting video but can't understand why there are a truckload of youtube doctors that hail the benefits of eggs. That along with the fact that both animals and humans have been consuming birds eggs for thousands of years.
this guy needs to review some of the literature about cholesterol and saturated fat. when you completely eradicate all extraneous variables and purely look at the relationship between saturated fat and heart disease there is none. eggs are one of the most nutritious whole foods available, especially the egg yolk which has the fat plus all the essential nutrients. SUGAR is your problem America, not saturated fat.
So youre saying if ppl ONLY eat eggs w zero variables then its healthy. Eggs are nasty and that yolk is NOT delicious. Fat blocks insulin receptors not sugar which causes insulin resistance. Fat makes people fat since fat stores as fat where carbs store as glycogen. Try some research bro.
@@Booooberrie Sugar also stored as fat , If the body Glycogen Store get full , the body start store that excess sugar into fat in the fat tissues, processed carbs and saturated fats are both bad
100% agree with you. Vegans always have an agenda. Any and all studies I've read, including metanalysis primary sources, discount this video completely.
@@Booooberrie I imagine that you have surely heard and swallowed everything that shitty "documentaries" like "What is Health" said to put out such a junk. In short, on the one hand, the storage of fat in the muscles, which therefore blocks insulin receptors, is largely caused by the production of insulin and therefore by the consumption of carbohydrates (see www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11500316) On the other hand, fats (including saturated) are not a factor of hypertriglyceridemia, unlike carbonhydrates (in particular fructose) (see academic.oup.com/jn/article/131/10/2772S/4686463) Finally, even without talking about studies, I will have to explain to me why I, my family and all my friends who grew up with a traditional French diet (a lot of eggs, cheeses, red meats, pork ...) have an iron health and body in general much more powerful / clean than most other Europeans and North Americans, including vegan tabilans like you (assuming that someone who explains to me about categorically that an egg IS NOT GOOD is either a Taliban or a child) or your guru Mr Greger, aka the skinny fat bald But hey, I imagine that our good public health in France is due to WINE, because yes it is well known that ALL French people drink ALL the time of wine, and that wine must contain a special molecule that protects the body from cardiovascular problems as well likes to say the stupid high carbs / vegans who do not support contradictions of their dogma.
I did a speech about veganism in my public speaking class. When I said that the USDA stated that eggs are not safe for consumption. She said "wrong. That's not true." So I told her "okay you got me. They said eggs can't be labeled as healthy" and she just kept saying I was wrong. So I told her to look at my sources. She still disagrees. I still don't know why
Some people refuse to evolve & learn. It's called willful ignorance. But, you can be certain there are people who "heard" you. Thank you for your courage to speak!
I know a lot of types of nuts don't meet the criteria for saturatted fat per 100g, but are you allowed to call them healthy? I know they don't contain any chloesterol whic makes them better, but some nuts also contain much more saturated fat. Are they meassured per calorie or per 100g?
I eat 6 to 7 eggs almost everyday If NOT every other day for years YEARS !! Now I get that my body might react differently then another's body if they did the same. But I eat that baby bcuz in poor n is cheaper.. yet I'm healthier then my mom, brother,n his kids !! A Bastard dogma spewing vegan not am I a blood sucking carnivore .. am I the only one that BELIEVEs that as the apex predator we have to eat from both sides n look at food nutrition profile.. every food source has a pro or con. I think ppl should eat the food with the best profile that it has in order to benefit his goal...
Sure, after eating 5 weeks every day atleast 2 eggs (not counting products including eggs) I must call on some bull. USDA is hammering on Fat and cholesterol, while they should put their head in the industrial sugar consumption. Fat is not even bad to begin with. Meanwhile they are lowering standards for fatty content we can eat (and heavily monitoring these products on a commercial level) but they are also replacing those fats with more and more sugar. Diabetes and obesity are on a rise yet dietary fat is still getting the blame (while being actively lowered in products). This world is just so dang stupid sometimes.
Jack Stubbington I know that it's fat that is blocking the insulin, but it's not because you are eating dietary fat that you are storing it. Fat itself gives very little drive to insulin release (the storing hormone). It's because of chronic unstable insulin levels that you are driving fat molecules into your cells more than neccesary (or in other words, eating a fatty meal that includes a good amount of carbs is whats up). If saturated fat was (in your diet mind you) really the problem, then why is it such an effective way to battle diabetes with high fat/low carb diets such as atkins or keto? I know the reason why, and it's not fat that is to blame. I will keep telling people that they are looking at the wrong macro. I also want to quickly add that I'm not saying that it's carbs alone that is at fault, I strongly believe putting both macros in the same meal is bad. (high fat and carb content). I've been experimenting myself with different approaches that allow me to eat a lot of fat and a lot of carbs during the day, but keep them seperated in my meals (so either a high fat-low carb meal or a high carb-low fat meal) and i'm making quite some health improvements over the board.
Mark Anthony yes, sadly it's all about the money. Sugar is cheap to make, and makes a ton of products which means more $$$. Food companies don't want us to be healthy, they want us to be addicted to their food so we buy more of it. Sugar happens to be very addicting.
It would be better to only eat eggs only from totally free running hens at special occations - the hens would be much happier and so would people - happy free animals
I feel like this guy tells me that everything I thought was healthy is actually not. They're all lies. No red meats, no milk, no eggs. Feel like this guy is trying to make me paranoid about what im eating.
This video is laughable. Some have claimed it's full of "facts", but the author's inability to distinguish between politics, superstition, logical fallacies is quite apparent. For example, he claims that dietary saturated fat and cholesterol contribute to death from heart disease but that claim has been debunked. Sure, industry wants to sell as many eggs as possible, but that is completely irrelevant to whether or not eggs are healthy or safe. Perhaps the author can cite valid studies that present valid data showing the dangers of eggs. Of course, that would take some effort since there aren't any. Even Ancel Keys, over 50 years ago, stated that dietary cholesterol has absolutely no effect on serum cholesterol, unless you eat the equivalent amount of cholesterol in 50 to 75 eggs a day. Likewise, consumption of saturated fat is also a non-danger.

so what sources of protein are we supposed to use then??? according to vegans and this channel all meat is bad, all eggs are bad, all dairy products are bad, all fish is bad... humans weren't made to eat beans only as a source of protein. I for one believe in evolution and, looking at our closest relative still in existence, the bonobo, we can see that even they eat eggs. I find it hard to believe that millions of years of evolution, physical aswell as cultural, still hasn't eliminated this 'poison' from our diets. I'm not going to eat larvae and peas for the rest of my life, thank you. Suggestions are welcome however ;p
That Earthling the longest living populations ate the majority of their calories from starchy vegetables, grains and legumes. (Beans and lentils) they ate very little fish and oil, maybe 2 servings a week. You don't need as much protein as you think, and you can get it from plant sources. Your body prefers plant proteins and digests them more easily
Vegan buddhist. digests them more easily so been flatulent from all the beans and lentils all day and night and having stomach issues is better than not experiencing that with animal products? You vegan smart asses think all human bodies work the same, well let me break it to you. NO. I've tried vegan, vegetarian diets and when it comes to my body and how it works it just simply doesn't work, and dont bring me that bullshit that maybe i am not balancing the diets well. My body just feels more comfortable eating some days animal based products some days vegetarian only. Oh and i love eating fucking eggs, almost everyday, those chicken periods are delicious, guess what i still manage to keep a low cholesterol because i have low saturated fat diets.
You made an argument that, “eggs are unsafe”. I’m sure there was an alternative point here...unless you ARE saying eggs are actually...”unsafe”. I love eggs. I buy mine from an Amish family, unwashed. I have very healthy HDL and extremely low LDL, no heart disease, I’m 45 and weigh 112lbs. I’ve eaten farm fresh eggs my entire lunch de (not created eggs from abused chickens, like the ones emphasized in this video). I eat eggs after a workout. I’m confused about what is NOT being share here about the healthy side of eggs, especially from pasture raised hens. Maybe a video on the health risks of sugar would be more affective. Our bodies don’t even digest simple sugars (of which they put I almost every food, including milks and meats), and the cancer risks associated with sugars. I’d love to see a video on that! 😊👍
What about free pasture eggs from home-raised chicken? That removes all possible unsafe stuff that's being talked about in this video. Also i read at least 10 studies that show dietary cholesterol has pretty much no impact on blood level cholesterol. And why is ALL cholesterol considered bad if that's clearly not true? I wish someone would finally take all the facts into consideration and make a proper conclusion. Now we have 2 sides that just make false conclusions based on some outdated research.
voltaspeeder17 1 pasture raised egg still exceeds your daily rda of cholesterol and still exceeds the saturated fat threshold to be considered healthy as explained in the video. I know which studies you’re referencing to they are usually funded by an egg company and the initial LDL of the participants is already high when the study started so by the end it’s still high. They have to take participants with a low LDL and then put them on a diet of eggs to see how they’re body reacts over time. Hope it helps.
Hi voltaspeeder17, no it doesn't make eggs any more healthy. Greger explains this in detail in this video: nutritionfacts.org/video/how-the-egg-board-designs-misleading-studies/ Pasture eggs don't prevent salmonella, an egg is a perfect environment for its development. There are various ways egg funded studies showing dietary cholesterol has no impact on blood level: -cholesterol does't raise if it's already normal to high cholesterol (both are prone to heart disease and our definition of normal is really bad, remember, heart disease is #1 killer, do you really want to normal?) -after a 12h fast, cholesterol will have returned to previous level normal/high level and this is what they like to show However cholesterol will spike 2-3h after eating it and might give heart pain or attack. This is never shown in egg funded studies. Give eggs to someone with low cholesterol and it will raise it definitely. "And why is ALL cholesterol considered bad if that's clearly not true" That's a loaded question. LDL cholesterol is bad, both small and large particles. Large particles a bit less bad, but still 33% more change of heart disease vs 44%. HDL is good, but not too high or it becomes bad. Eggs will raise your bad LDL cholesterol. You don't have to wish, many people like Greger and other WFPB proponents have already taken all this facts and made proper conclusions, which is to not touch eggs, we don't need them. Their high protein content is killing us, they have no fiber, barely no nutrients, they can have salmonella. And most people will eat non home-raised chicken which is renders our anti-biotics useless, uses water and pollutes and mistreats chicken. That plain sucks.
purpleblue, I liked your post till I got to the "barely no nutrients" part. lol at eggs having no nutrients. An yolk practically has everything a multivitamin tablet does.
I have been fairly strictly plant-based for a couple of years, but I have been craving eggs lately. Not just here and there, but pretty much daily for a couple months. It wasn't a food I really loved a lot when it was a regular part of my diet. Does anyone have any theories?
I tried vegan but I didn't feel physically well after months of refraining from eggs so I went back to being an ovo-vegetarian and feel fit and healthy again. You're body might signal a nutritional deficiency. Not everyone's body is capable of absorbing the synthetic vitamins in fortified foods and supplements as well as your body would with naturally occurring vitamins (like B12).
Saturated fat is not the culprit behind heart disease, inflammation of the liver from processed foods are. Please read good calories bad calories and nourishing traditions.
and avoid the oils...especially canola, safflower, corn.... Use lard from natural pigs for cooking, butter on your bread, melted coconut oil for baking and the best olive oil you can buy for salads.
So I take it saturated fat doesn't cause inflammation then? Wrong. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22766885 www.jneurosci.org/content/29/2/359.full www.uchospitals.edu/news/2012/20120613-milkfat.html
Most studies are funded by for profit companies so I would take them with a grain of salt. On the other hand why do you think the traditional cultures around the globe who eat their traditional diets which in many cases contain much more saturated fats than Americans eat, rarely have any signs of inflammation related diseases like MS, Cancer, Heart Disease, Diabetes, Acne? Some of these cultures would include the Inuit of the Arctic, Maasai of Africa, Kitavan Islandas of Papua New Guinea etc. After realizing this truth, It's a clear sign that these studies you mentioned are after your wallet.
I don't really care because eggs are delicious. People have been eating eggs for thousands of years, all over the world, long before the US and US government existed.
Ah the appeal to nature fallacy. Life expectancy was also 30 years back then. No one knew any better, and people had to scavenge for anything they could get their hands on to stave their hunger.
Gene Jost Life expectancy actually wasn't 30, there was a high mortality rate among children and infants, once they were out of that stage they lived to be like 80 generally. I never claimed eggs were good for you, I claimed it wasn't some government conspiracy, because it isn't. What type of loser eats nothing but healthy food, how dreary must your life is be

Eggs have HDL not the bad LDL cholesterol, saying eggs are bad for you because of their cholesterol is outdated. This is just something that bothered me, feel free to prove me otherwise, ty (Don't get triggered pls, I'm vegan)
The body does NOT make omega 3 easily from plant sources and infants bodies especially can't make DHA, an essential nutrient, from plant sources. Great numbers of 3rd world childre go blind due to DHA deficiency and ALA from plant sources is NOT going to help them so f*ck you vegans n your crazy beliefs.
Presently alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is the most widely used vegetarian LC3PUFA, but only marginal amounts are converted into eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA); both of which are strongly related to human health. Currently, fish oils represent the most prominent dietary sources of EPA and DHA; www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24261532
I've done studies on Dr T. Colin Campbell, Dr . McDougall, and Dr . Greger. I made kale smoothies and also drink freshly made juice on the weekends. I will have to disagree with comments about eggs being detrimental. For the last three years, I've been eating anywhere from 3 to 6 eggs a day depending on my activity. I eat them par boiled. My most recent physical was 2 weeks ago and has been the best out of my past twenty years. In summary, when I gave up refined carbohydrates like breads, spaghetti, Pizza as my main staple, my health improve dramatically. I lost 30 lbs and was a size 42. I'm very fit right now and healthiest I've ever been at the age of 43 boulder climbing . The saturated fat in eggs is good fat. It's the over nutrition of refined carbohydrates that damage our arteries. In summary, organic free range eggs are the best.
It's a shame that the USDA or any governmental entity will not inform the public about how unsafe and unhealthy eating animals and animal products are. Why can't the FDA do its job?
I have been eating 2 eggs a day for years and my cholesterol is fine. I eat oats daily and brown rice 3 x per week and 4 fruits a day . I eat legumes daily and only one portion of meat a day

It's about time the chicken periods are exposed
when do trees ovaries will get exposed? Still waiting for that one!
But you are a product of human ovulation eewwwe
13Gladius 2, stop eating humans!
Please take a human biology class because you are very confused if you think we are birds🤔
justylex, don't you know where chickens come from?
"Elisa, how clever you are." 😭😭
Because we all know the FDA is the most accurate source of nutritional information and always knows best.
That is why these documents were not public, and are blacked out.
this comment should be way up
brutalbeetle meat IS bad. And yes he can.
Ok I guess we can’t trust the cdc either
obviously you are not bright enough to understand what this is about.. let me shed some light for you....
Just say no to hen periods.
Furious Pete, still laughing at your name and comment lololololol
Eating more eggs will allow the liver to rest from making cholesterol of which it makes only 75% of the body's daily needs anyway. Does Greger know this? No bcz he's a doofus
Those that don't wana eat eggs, I beg you please don't !!! Less for you = more for those that really do want, love n appreciate them.
Lettuce bee kind to our animals 💝
So what
“Ohhh the animals”
Ok we’re all animals it’s just like that sorry.
The cycle of life, but yeah I do agree that animals unnecessarily suffer
And even if I do consume meat that is local and I hunt for bison meat and venison
On a large scale that is not sustainable, so we’re stuck.
😂😂😂😂😂
I can watch these videos all day, doctor. Thanks for the great research, succinct conclusions, great editing, etc. Please continue to cover more topics you may have not already! Thanks!
Looks like 188 people weren't too egg-cited to hear the bad news. It must be egg-ravating!
I love it ha
I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate this comment. Thank you.
oh for god's sake don't egg him on
I egg to differ...eggs are consumable after all haha
Lynnianaa EGGactly dude!
It's interesting that Japan is the country with the highest egg consumption rate in the world. They also have the highest life expectancy, a low cancer rate and one of the lowest obesity rates in the world.
erm....... why is the government PAYING to advertise eggs?
Because it's a million dollar industry
which the government GAIN from ONLY if they invest their money in it. And the government like money :) :)
***** confused much?
ConGamePro I've seen that in a documentary. It was so fucked up.
This is comedy gold! What a sad state of affairs!
I just pulled up the "incredible egg" website. Looks like the egg board is still operating under the same constraints shown in this video. Here is a little tidbit.
"Eggs are all-natural and packed with a number of nutrients. One egg has 13 essential vitamins and minerals in varying amounts, high-quality protein and antioxidants, all for 70 calories."
It's amusing the to see them try to make eggs sound healthy without being able to say that they are healthy. If the government really did change it's tune on eggs; why does the egg board have to play such word gymnastics?
+transhealthy They're using nutrients in their ad? Can you share the link?
TeleTrans 1 Because HURR DURR SAT FATS=BAD. But sugar and carbs are a okay! The USDA and FDA still goes by with that dated 1977 food pyramid thing and they don't plan on changing that anytime soon.
I have to say if I didn't see this video first I would have fell for that wording.
Word gymanics oooh big word
Two comments:
1 - What about the HDL vs LDL argument?
I’m confused. Is this video old? I thought we learned recently that dietary intake of cholesterol does not increase serum cholesterol...?
Because there is an agenda here, clearly. The man is plant based, saying eggs are bad..
My Aunt lived to almost a hundred. She ate a Traditional Japanese diet which included raw eggs mixed with lots of vegetables & greens, and white rice.
This is one of my favourite videos. Makes me laugh every time. 💚
Lol
Such great research! Also you are very good at simplifying the vast amount of information.
egg industry is cruel and disgusting
The government telling me that eggs aren't safe....??? That must mean they're the best possible thing you could eat. I love eating eggs as much as I can. I pick organic ones up from a small local farm. I've never been sick or had any bad side effects from eating eggs. I'm strong and healthy, eggs give me all sorts of energy to work hard all day. Help your health and community, go out and buy local eggs!
+Pig Farmer Ben I smoke cigarettes for years now and I'm strong, feel good and healthy. Cigarettes must be good for you. Kappa
one must ask the question what are these "eggs" to save you time they're basically chicken menstruation
+AsmodeusClips your mother wishes you would stop smoking, but most importantly move out of her basement.
+Aaron Verran nutriance my friend. But you probably don't need them to type on a keyboard.
+Pig Farmer Ben what?
You can say they're keto friendly.
You can say they're carb free, they don't cause an insulin response.
They also have pasteurized eggs, they are safe.
Dietary cholesterol does not readily affect cholesterol in your blood.
You can also eat them yolk free and you can also eat egg product which removes all the negatives of eggs.
I just can't help but love when the industry gets absolutely wrecked by science lol
So, these are pretty much legal documents we are reading when corporations try to sell products?
@Tony Sanchez since when having normal cholesterol in the US is considered a good thing?
"Normal cholesterol is where majority of heart attacks occurred. The medical profession settle on 200 mg/dl so you can eat "meat". It cholesterol level below 150mg/dl that shown NO ONE has heart attack; and that level can only obtained with a vegan diet. Many vegan have cholesterol level of 120-130mg/dl.
You correct, you know the "medical" con to allow people to consumed meat and support the cattle industry.
The broccoli lobby 😰
I would love to see some FOI and USDA research on meat in general...is this why meat's "protein" was pushed so hard? I don't ever recall meat being called nutritious or healthy...only that it is a good source of complete protein, which is a correct statement. Of course there are "other" forms of complete protein, but it is a true statement none the less. Please research and share :)
people need to wake up and stop eating these cruel foods which are extremely detrimental to your health and the environment
sometimes it seems like there is karma
+Dennys Bulnes Campos Yes. Constant egg production drains chickens of calcium and shortens their lives. Beaks are cut, they're crammed into cages, and much, much more than I care to go into detail. There's plenty of information online
***** they also ground up billions of live baby chicks.
To clarify, eggs are not cruel. the current farming practice is.
+quakerlyster You could easily find evidence for the contrary.
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20471806
You have to eat something.
Eggs are delicious.
amen
So says the egg man.
I always thought that eggs were the perfect food, they contain everything.!!!!
And what about emerging research supporting healthy saturated fats and cholesterol?
also eggs have an enzyme in them that zero out the cholesterol.
I've lost 40 lbs in 18 weeks and I eat eggs A LOT. Edit: so how can they not contribute to weight loss?
They do😊
You ate less of everything else (fruit and vegetables?) So now you may weigh less but risk of disease still higher than if you didn't eat loads of eggs, I think.
If you re-read Berendo's comment, it is studies showing that they are bad we all would like to see... studies like the ones this doctor links to in his debunking of the common misunderstandings of cholesterol. eatingacademy.com/nutrition/the-straight-dope-on-cholesterol-part-i
***** YOU NEED TO TALK TO ME!!!! IF YOUR NOT EATING EGGS EVERYDAY YOUR UNINFORMED------and YOUR HEALTH IS IN JEOPARDY!!!!!
I see that Your The Dumb Ass Here
Moderation: Instead of putting gallons into the fire, let's put quarts!
I wouldn't be surprised if you were part of the meat/dairy industry ;)
The top several studies all show a recurring motif: no association
So while I generally applaud your overall theme of encouraging people to adopt a more plant-based diet, there doesn't seem to be much evidence indicating that eggs are bad.
ROFL I always like these joke replies.
Read the literature yourself and you'll see the same finding
Why would you misinterpret me as joking?
You probably mean egg board funded studies that compare eggs with some junk.
What's about egg whites sans yolks ??...🤔
Great stuff, Dr Greger is humorous and presents well-researched videos, one of the best nutrition channels on youtube.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha, good one.
I don't care if they're healthy or not. I just care about the chickens.
That's sweet. I agree with you. 🕊️🐥💕🌱🌞
It is unbelievable how people keep being fooled by the egg industry... :( Thank you for sharing this crucial information!
It must be eggravating to know I'm 42 6 foot with 15 percent bf eat 8 or 10 eggs a day and load 4 plates on everything that matters while having below normal cholesterol levels. You either got it or you don't.
5:24 Can you please provide a link to the full email chain?
Probably not!
I think that is what is truely amazing about this is that in 2015 we dont even know if an egg is good for us or not. That tells you something....
+13thGh0st We do know and have known for decades, but the meat and dairy industry in western countries is absolutely massive and rich, happy to spend billions to make sure the average american gets their 2 eggs every morning, their burger for lunch, and their steak for dinner.
Do you eat / like eggs Joshua? Did you ever eat or like them..and when did you stop eating and liking them. All the best.
13thGh0st For the majority of my childhood I ate a lot of eggs, and also eggs. After learning about the many reasons why I should never consume eggs or milk again I weened myself off dairy in the span of about a month. Now I'm completely vegan and I have no cravings for eggs or milk at all.
+Joshua Muller
About a month? Did you have any withdrawal symptoms?
A month ladies and gentlemen. The courage and whatever I applaud.
I have to go now.My bacon and eggs, and I slipped in some toast and coffee, await.
Mark Anthony Hey we all have our vices, some adults like sex, drugs or alcohol, some children can't possibly go without their yummy yummy eggies and bacon!
People talk about how we've been eating eggs for thousands of years except evolution doesn't work that quickly. Eggs (and dairy) weren't part of the diet we developed our digestive systems for around one million years ago.
None of us were there but history records prove my point.
Billions of animals have been eating eggs for billions of years even herbivores have the human body as a part of the animal kingdom is no different
Evolution doesn't work period, regardless how fast.
@@Josh-wb7ii They ate bugs poop and all They did not even gut them.
Gene, who cares? Anecdotes are useless when it comes to planning for public health programs.
joseph jacovino The point was Eggs are a WHOLE FOOD that people have eaten for EONS and most people have eaten them every single day.
What a load of crap. I lowered my cholesterol from 6.9 to 5.4 in 8 weeks by eating 6 eggs three times a week
Yes that says a lot about advertising.. but what is the truth about safety ( for example eggs from vaccinated free range hens )?
I love this! Thank you so much! Now I know where to send my egg-eating friends without having to get into an argument ;-P
I am so thankful to share this with everyone I know.
+Aethren
The majority of corn produced in the US is fed to livestock; increased livestock consumption directly benefits corn producers.

In regards to Keys I recommend reading this link, here, as it's more explanatory than I could hope to be in a short comment: rawfoodsos.com/2011/12/22/the-truth-about-ancel-keys-weve-all-got-it-wrong/
(again, correlation, not causation)
I'm not arguing that nuts and certain cold-pressed oils aren't healthy, nor that saturated fat is the holy grail of nutrition by any means, but it's a necessary part of a healthy diet, in decent amounts.
Your liver will thank you
NOTE: The last part of the Keys link you posted actually comments on cholesterol.
Nevertheless, this article, though simplistic, has a wealth of sources and citations. greatist.com/health/saturated-fat-healthy
Yes, lowering saturated fat consumption lowers LDL-A particles, but the B particles are the ones responsible for plaque formation for the most part.
Well said! You're no mute imbecile yourself, 😂. Dr Greger is👌 & to the 👉, 👏
They made a good point there. I am less hungry.... sometimes I am even full after eating eggs! Crazy man
egg-traordinary video and egg-cellent presentation, Doc.
😂😂😂
@@Booooberrie Sugar also stored as fat , If the body Glycogen Store get full , the body start store that excess sugar into fat in the fat tissues, processed carbs and saturated fats are both bad
troll
100% agree with you. Vegans always have an agenda. Any and all studies I've read, including metanalysis primary sources, discount this video completely.
@@Booooberrie I imagine that you have surely heard and swallowed everything that shitty "documentaries" like "What is Health" said to put out such a junk.
In short, on the one hand, the storage of fat in the muscles, which therefore blocks insulin receptors, is largely caused by the production of insulin and therefore by the consumption of carbohydrates (see www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11500316)
On the other hand, fats (including saturated) are not a factor of hypertriglyceridemia, unlike carbonhydrates (in particular fructose) (see academic.oup.com/jn/article/131/10/2772S/4686463)
Finally, even without talking about studies, I will have to explain to me why I, my family and all my friends who grew up with a traditional French diet (a lot of eggs, cheeses, red meats, pork ...) have an iron health and body in general much more powerful / clean than most other Europeans and North Americans, including vegan tabilans like you (assuming that someone who explains to me about categorically that an egg IS NOT GOOD is either a Taliban or a child) or your guru Mr Greger, aka the skinny fat bald
But hey, I imagine that our good public health in France is due to WINE, because yes it is well known that ALL French people drink ALL the time of wine, and that wine must contain a special molecule that protects the body from cardiovascular problems as well likes to say the stupid high carbs / vegans who do not support contradictions of their dogma.

Cholesterol is a health food. Dont be fooled by Gregers lies
I can't stop laughing! Great video. :-)
is this meant to be funny or is it some anti-vegan video some lame-o tried to pawn off?

US government should not be in business of advising citizens on anything. And I still agree that eggs are unhealthy.
Thank you for making this! Very informative!
I eat 6 to 7 eggs almost everyday If NOT every other day for years YEARS !! Now I get that my body might react differently then another's body if they did the same. But I eat that baby bcuz in poor n is cheaper.. yet I'm healthier then my mom, brother,n his kids !! My brother is only 2 yrs older n yet can't get up falls n trips on his own feet I CAN LITERALLY SEE THEM DYING in front of me.. all they eat is bread pasta rice beans n that's the least healthy thing I see them eat side from the cookies MASSIVE gains of soda n burger king mcd etc... my food intake eggs meat cheese .. I DON'T consider myself .
Agreed

They need something to promote. Wait a minute. Sugar isn't a food? But it make Billions to be handed out to the hands out.
Mark Anthony yes, sadly it's all about the money. Sugar is cheap to make, and makes a ton of products which means more $$$. Food companies don't want us to be healthy, they want us to be addicted to their food so we buy more of it. Sugar happens to be very addicting.
+MysticDragons Although, a high carb low fat vegan diet has been shown in clinical studies to reverse diabetes, so we can't really blame carbs.
It would be better to only eat eggs only from totally free running hens at special occations - the hens would be much happier and so would people - happy free animals
and since when does the USDA know what's healthy?
The USDA knows but they lie
This is spot on! Thank you dr Greger!
All foods are bad except lettuces and legumes... we get it.
lettuce not that great either. I think your stuck with legumes lol
@xanifur are you demented? Whole grains seeds nuts vegetables fruits and mushrooms tell you anything? Well pretty sure Dr Greger says they are healthy
That desperate for attention?

Eggs and cholesterol raise serum cholesterol levels and cause oxidative stress:

Pasture raised chickens provide very healthy eggs that are excellent for us.

so what sources of protein are we supposed to use then???
according to vegans and this channel all meat is bad, all eggs are bad, all dairy products are bad, all fish is bad...
humans weren't made to eat beans only as a source of protein.
Do Amish chicken eggs not have cholesterol or saturated fat?
What are the cholesterol levels of yours?
Greger explains this in detail in this video: nutritionfacts.org/video/how-the-egg-board-designs-misleading-studies/
Pasture eggs don't prevent salmonella, an egg is a perfect environment for its development.
There are various ways egg funded studies showing dietary cholesterol has no impact on blood level:
-cholesterol does't raise if it's already normal to high cholesterol (both are prone to heart disease and our definition of normal is really bad, remember, heart disease is #1 killer, do you really want to normal?)
-after a 12h fast, cholesterol will have returned to previous level normal/high level and this is what they like to show
However cholesterol will spike 2-3h after eating it and might give heart pain or attack. This is never shown in egg funded studies.
Give eggs to someone with low cholesterol and it will raise it definitely.
"And why is ALL cholesterol considered bad if that's clearly not true"
That's a loaded question.
That plain sucks.
voltaspeeder17 lol if you think dietary cholesterol has no impact on our cholesterol then you will end up with heart disease.
purpleblue, I liked your post till I got to the "barely no nutrients" part. lol at eggs having no nutrients. An yolk practically has everything a multivitamin tablet does.

A plant based diet then? With no fats?
I have been fairly strictly plant-based for a couple of years, but I have been craving eggs lately. Not just here and there, but pretty much daily for a couple months. It wasn't a food I really loved a lot when it was a regular part of my diet. Does anyone have any theories?
I crave chocolate sometimes - and cake - and lazing around watching TV when I have things to do ....
