Being a taxi driver in Bangor Maine, I warn you that if the cruise ships are anchored, Bar Harbor is going to be ridiculously crowded. Boothbay Harbor, Camden, Damariscotta Point, Stonington, Blue Hill, etc. will be just as nice. Book your taxis as far in advance as you can since it gets really busy in the summer.
Most of these you can find places "the next town over" that is close enough to drive in and enjoy -- and much less expensive. Remember that the wealthy like having people serve them their coffee and food and clean their houses. So there is always a "less pretty" town nearby where the "servants" live. Especially in that stretch of coastline in Washington. LOTS of small dead fishing/boatbuilding towns you drive through on the way to Port Townsend - for example.
@redwolfexr I'd rather live in Sequim. Lots of tourists driving through town and spending some money, but they are passing through. Sequim is not the destination so it's not much of a tourist trap except for a few restaurants to feed the people passing through. And how the hell did Gig Harbour make this list? Smh
@@gittes98yes, it does. I took that train a couple times between Spokane WA and Wolf Point MT. Absolutely breathtaking to see the snowy, craggy peaks of Glacier Park by the light of a full moon.
I lived in western WA for 30 years. Back in the 70s, Anacortes was mainly a run down fishing town. It also was where the ferry terminal out to the San Juan Islands was (still is) located. Back then, you could drive up to the ferry terminal and get on a ferry pretty easily. These days, good luck if you don’t have a reservation. And, for the record, it Whidbey not Whimbley. South Whidbey is one of the most beautiful places. Langley is a quaint little waterfront town. South Whidbey State Park is incredible. You have views across the water to the Olympic Mountains.
My parents live on Whidbey Island. (Deception Pass is beautiful). The entire region is just beautiful! Coupeville is a lovely, waterfront town to visit, too. Yes, the state park is GORGEOUS!
@@isabellind1292 - Yes, Coupeville is also really nice. My husband and I moved from WA 20 years ago. One of things I really miss (besides being close to the water) is fresh seafood. Penn Cove mussels are my favorite.
I've spent at least three days there every month since July of 2022 working on a local full production pro wrestling show. I love it. Insane on the home prices so I'm not ever sure I could actually live there. But Devoted Kiss Caffe for breakfast and if we get the time Tides Tavern for dinner are our regular haunts while there. We're actually convinced the people at Dexter's pay attention to our show schedule and bring in food accordingly since it is one of the closest options to our venue that is good (We're out at the Key Peninsula Civic Center so not exactly close but not far). I'm always up for suggestions on new places though if you have any good ones. My Producer and I are both up for trying some new places provided we don't have to go back across the bridge to do it
Hey, Briggs. I know you included a couple of Great Lakes towns. But have you ever done a video exclusively dealing with this area? I've lived in Minnesota, Wisconsin and the U.P. of Michigan on Lake Superior. You should consider towns like Grand Marais, MN, Bayfield, WI and Grand Marais, MI. Just a thought from a former Air Force Captain.

Lots of nice towns. It's way too big for this list but I've always had a soft spot for Bellingham, Washington. The southern part (Fairhaven) is particularly nice.
This seems like a subject that could get a couple of follow-up videos.I thought for sure you were going to work in Coeur d'Alene, ID but you weren't that far off with Sandpoint. I guess Coeur d'Alene is getting pretty crowded and pricey....
Briggs: 14:12 Whidbey is pronounced, “wood be.” Anacortes is a hazmat area because the Shell oil refinery has dumped all its waste on the ground and in the water for the last 30 ++ years.
The ultimate in waterfront living is to have a floating home. You should create a video about floating home communities. These communities are located in Vancouver BC, Astoria OR, Saint Helens OR, Portland OR, Troutdale OR, Sausalito CA. There are likely additional floating homes on the Gulf Coast and East Coast.

Coos Bay is NOT nice.
I am surprised you did not put any of the towns on the Chesapeake bay like St Michaels.
My only in memories of Anacortes...dark, wet and muddy. No shade on Briggs, just my experience. Great salmon though!!
Port Townsend wooden boat festival is great demonstration of steam curved wooden boat Construction don't miss this festival I saw years ago and wish for a return now in palm coast Florida
I've never heard Whidbey Island miss pronounced like that before. LOL BTW Anacortes is on Fidalgo Island. Funny thing is I've never ran across that small sliver of land you talk about with my boat.
I am really surprised neither Carmel by the Sea was mentioned or St. Ausustine, FL the oldes historical town in the US
Really? They’re both stunning!
Neither one is "quiet".
@@aliciam.4866 Both get tons of tourists!
@@aliciam.4866 You can say that again. They're both mobbed with tourists.
We don't WANT more people to overrun Carmel.
Try building home equity in a water home. BOAT.
Port Townsend has whale watching as well. I visited about 14 years ago.
