I don't know if it's people not having their mirrors adjusted properly, but on the motorway flashing blue lights catch my eyes long before I actually have to move out the way. Same round town, I'm normally aware of an emergency vehicle before I have to get out the way. I'm not perfect so occasionally I have been caught off guard, but I'd say it's pretty rare, I've definitely never done what that Kia did.
i usually flash the car in front before pulling to the left, then hold back so if the car in front doesn't use the gap it's there for the emergency vehicle. the best driver in the vid was probably the merc that pulled across the roundabout to stop traffic from the right.

Nice safe driving by you again, Chris - although, I'm still sad at the awareness of so many on the roads - especially when you're actually in a marked up one now with all of it's bling . . .
I drove on the motorway for the second time since lockdown today. M4 has become "smart" since I last drove it. All the boards from at least a mile beforehand had showed that there was an incident in the nearside lane, so pull over. I can only imagine the carnage if HA weren't already there and had coned the lane off because the stream of traffic had no intention of merging over nor of the stationary vehicle in front of them Seemed to me that they didn't like the 40 mph limit showing on the other lanes and that somehow it wouldn't affect them.
Freshly back from a trip in Europe and it really fustrates me the amount of people that sit in an "overtaking lane" in the UK as well as not checking their mirrors.

It's annoying as hell. It's insane how many people think they are split into the 'slow lane (for trucks etc)' 'normal lane' and 'fast lane'. Motorway driving needs to be a core part of driving lessons / tests.
Driving on French motorways and it was such a breath of fresh air hardly seeing any lane hoggers and people actually keeping away from lane 2 and 3 unless overtaking. I think we need to get Highways England to use every dot matrix sign that’s not being in use for an important message to display “keep left unless overtaking”
Definition of 'dual carriageway'? The 'dual' bit doesn't mean '2 lanes'. A motorway, no matter how many lanes, is a dual carriageway. Traffic flowing in the opposite direction has a separate, second (where 'dual' comes in as '2'), one-way carriageway for driving along. An 'A' road with 2 lanes in one or both directions is not a dual carriageway unless it has a long uninterrupted divider between traffic flowing in opposite directions, be it grass/vegetation, raised kerbed pavement area or some form of barriers, wire type, concrete wall, etc. A single lane in each direction divided by a substantial length of barrier, etc is also a dual carriageway. A 4 lane 2-way single carriageway (2 in each direction) isn't, and so the national limit for such is 60mph, not 70mph. You love how people can halve the number of operational lanes on a motorway.
I absolutely DETEST middle lane hoggers!!!!!! They should have their licences revoked. I frequently use motorways and dual carriageways and people stay in lane 2 or 3 and never move over, it’s so infuriating!!!
It’s good to watch things from your point of view, it can only help us to understand what you need from us and it must be very frustrating when some drivers just don’t see you due to their lack of attention
Hi Chris, a brilliant drive with a good few challenging bits - it amazes me how bad some people’s driving is. So ignorant - until they need your help that is then they’d soon learn. I used to work with the West Midlands Ambulances but 8 years ago my son had a fatal crash i I went to pot. I just lost it. I could not go into a hospital without being sick so had to chuck in the job I loved dearly. 8 years on and I’m still battling depression and other complications. Since I found your channel a week or two ago I watch enthusiastically but I know I’ll never be able to do the job again. Stay safe out there my friend.
It's a shame these videos can't be sent to the police to get drivers like the one driving the Merc done for driving without due care and attention.!! Great video Chris...
They can be, in fact there is a scheme called "operation snap", I've had 7 people get prosecuted for various things, passing me on my horse really dangerously, road rage etc.
Watching this, really boils my blood. I see emergency services 8-10 cars behind me on most roads, and I'm the first to always pull over. Seeing others just daudle in their lanes because it's easy is frustrating to say the least. Hope that the lane hoggers aren't as common as we see here, but man, so many people holding you back from a life saving journey.
Amazing how some drivers suddenly find there is actually a middle lane when a high visibility Emergency Vehicle 'Suddenly' appears behind them with flashing headlights and Blues
Doing CERAD in August, all I can say is if i ever get to be a tenth of a driver that you are, I will be very happy in life. Learned so much from these videos, positioning and not pressing and anticipating. Its an education.
Good luck, I just passed my standard police response course today and it was the best driving experience I have had and a shocking eye-opener to those that walk among us. Be safe!
Honestly watching this video pissed me off 🤣 How do people not see sirens or hear them? If I can’t pull in straight away I’ll try and pull in when Available… honestly annoying… Love the driving also ❤️
Chris do you guys have a way of reporting drivers who do not make way for an emergency vehicle such as lane hoggers? The reg and evidence is already to hand in some cases?
There is no law that says you have to give way to emergency vehicles. In fact, the Highway Code tells you not to and the emergency vehicle will make its way around you.
@@Thomashorsman The Highway Code states that you should 'consider the route of such a vehicle and take appropriate action to let it pass, while complying with all traffic signs'
@@Thomashorsman you mean to say, that someone that doesnt see/hear or react to an emergency vehicle. one that is marked as well, is driving with care and attention? lets face it, if they were paying attention they would have reacted in some way.
The highway code may not be a law, but it is backed up by traffic laws and regulations. When in court, your driving will be compared with the highway code to see if you complied with its direction.
The amount of people that have no awareness on the road is actually terrible, I've seen it so many times. So much for checking all 3 mirrors every 5 seconds to keep updated on what's around them.
Never had the "birds eye view" that you've shown here, my utmost respect for you, and your skills...some drivers seem to sail along like they're the only ones on the road, or the most important, just oblivious...shocking really :/
Can we make this a thing?….. if you see blue lights coming behind, give the driver in front a flash of your headlights? Got to give these guys the best chance possible! Keep up the great work Chris 👍
the one that held you up for 60 seconds and still didnt move out of the way should get 6 points, undue care and attention and impeding an emergency vechicle.
You can be fined for it in several countries, UK included. I wish sometimes they would follow up with police and show them Chris’s footage and hand them a fine.
Teasing us with the magic roundabout at the end…! How many high speed runs like this would you say you average per day? That’s the thing I think about…how normal this HAS to be for you so it’s not a stressful experience each time.
Good to see 99% of drivers react quickly and for that vehicle that didn’t hopefully the police will have a word with the driver (but I don’t hold much hope)
Morning. I'm an X Paramedic from London, and I lived in Luton for a good while. London Ambulace, who I worked for from 1988 to 2003 was a strange time in my life. Started with taking the Day patients to clinics , and then after a bit of time sat my exams at waterloo headquarters, to get on front line Ambulances. Worked at the Back station for awhile, and the one thing I remember was, for the first two years, where ever I was stationed. Mainly North west London, I was sh*t scared. i used all my adrenalin daily and nightly, going to jobs. Good drive on the M1. I covered junction 1 at the North circular up to Junction 5 Watford. Thanks
I’ve often wondered how fast it’s possible to take that sweeping right off of the motorway at Hemel. Now I have my answer without ever needing to try it 😀 Your videos are like watching Grand Theft Auto if it was made in Luton. Amazingly smooth driving as always in all your videos. Even at very high speed nothing ever seem to come up on you fast, if that makes sense, I think because of the way you anticipate the other drivers so we’ll. 👍🏻👍🏻
Yet another beautiful drive Chris, great work. Like the use of the timer to demonstrate mirror-check times. Sadly, so many drivers only use their mirrors when it suits them, and focus too much on their own little bit of the universe. Well done mate, keep the vids coming !!
I just can’t fathom it, I really can’t fathom how some f****g idiots hog the fast lane on the motorway when there is ample space to move over. Are they just listening to very loud music and ignoring their mirrors too ? Really pisses me off. I think your patience is so admiral. Thank you for your service.
8:30 - As a rule myself. Whenever I start to approach traffic like that, i always position myself as far left or right, so when traffic is crawling and the emergency services approach, I'm already well ahead and moved over ready for them.
A true excellent example of road dominance without aggression! Using a twitch side to side to get side mirror attention from the vehicle in front and maintaining the 2 second gap and only getting into the overtaking position when you know the car in front can move over safely. Unfortunately, a skill sometimes forgotten by some CERAD qualified drivers. I love learning from your videos and how fluid your driving is. 👍
Real contrast between some of the cars on the motorway not looking in their mirrors and the two trucks going into Hemel - they knew exactly what to do.
That's amazing, they let people who are blind drive in the UK? And deaf on top of that. All kidding aside, the things I see when I'm lanesplitting on my motorcycle. People make mistakes but some did get their license with a pack of cereal.
@@BenRudd3 why otherwise? Fuel consumption Lower tax Lower insurance Don't need much parking space if any, at home Cheaper to buy Cheaper to fix You don't just buy a bike to pass and weave like a dick, unless you are a dick already
Just a few hours ago I was driving and saw blue lights in the mirror. Because of your video I was aware on how to behave and signaling I had seen them. Only thing I regret is I should have speed up until it was clear to pass.
One thing I’ve noticed driving on motorways in the south is that people tend to hold their lanes much longer than they do on motorways in the midlands.. I’m assuming it’s partly down to congestion/volume of cars, but my theory is less lane changes = fewer mirror checks.. still inexcusable to not have checked mirrors for over a minute
Possibly texting, but I find that there are a lot of people who are just stupid and totally oblivious to their surroundings - they'll hog the overtake lane going 55 and even if you tailgate them and flash your beams in an attempt to tell them to move over they'll be completely unaware.
They must be deaf too cause that siren is loud. They should be checking their mirrors every 10 seconds if they are that dumb. I check them every 5 sec but clearly 1 min is not enough for them
Only recently motorway training was brought into learning to drive. majority of drivers out there have taken no motorway training. i was lucky, my dad was an advanced driving instructor, so i been learning from age 10 how the roads work but most people only have the highway code and theory on how to use a motorway and think its ok to sit in outside lane.
Just a few days ago, myself and another driver were flashing a lady (now now, keep it clean!) for nearly 2 miles because she'd forgotten to actually turn her lights on on her car, and was relying on the "automatic" setting - only putting some lights on at the front. Even when I turned my lights off in front of her and behind her, and flashed the rear fog light on and off a few times, it DID NOT TRIGGER to her to check what was going on with her car. A sincere but polite word with her at the next traffic lights and then she was telling me "its just passed the MOT recently too" - lots of modern cars don't have any rear end illumination unless you actually switch the lights on yourself.
I have use of a 2011 Audi 1.6TFSI here in S Africa and the Auto Light setting illuminates both front and rear lights. Worst thing with vehicle lighting here is those that drive with no lights or drive with front and rear fog lights on all the time.
'auto' lights having nothing to do with the rear not being illuminated. This is caused by daytime running lights which even when the lights are switched off always (and only!) illuminate the front whenever the ignition is on. If the lights were actually set to auto then in the hours of darkness the rear would light up too. Likely the lights were switched off during her MOT and she is used to having them in auto.
Fantastic video and being able to watch it all in real time was brilliant. It is good to see so many people move overearly but a shame about those who just sit paying no attention to their surroundings. :)
Nice drive and some good progress! Totally un-important, but how do you prefer this siren compared to the old tones you had on the VRS? I prefer the sound of this personally and it's very common.
People are so oblivious when driving. How can you not notice bright flashing lights behind you when you have 3 rear facing mirrors? These drivers were most likely on their phones as always
Wow, that motorway run seemed to take longer than the town portion. Motorway drivers quite often appear to just go into some sort of deep standby mode. Great driving from you contrasted by quite a lot of bad awareness from others. Two ends of the driver spectrum.
Would've loved to see you navigate that magic roundabout 😂. Anyways great response, lovely motorway manoeuvring, lovely roundabout stuff, keep up the good work.
I started driving back in 1962 and then took the Advanced Drivers course in the late 1970s. My instructor was a police driving instructor and he used the commentary method and that just amazed me on what he noticed. His rear view mirror work was constant and he taught me to stay in a lane on the motorway until a faster vehicles approached for the rear but to be out of the way before he needs to slow for me. Together with that he taught me to not try and slow a speeding driver, let them go I'm not a police man. Too many of the drivers on the motorway just weren't checking their mirrors, but I also wonder about something I was told about emergency vehicle sirens, not penetrating forward enough at the higher speed. At the roundabout traffic did seem to clear left and right quicker. Would love to read about your thoughts on this and is there statistic's on this. Thanks for posting and stay safe out there.
Isn't every response car fitted with a bullhorn? whole point in a bullhorn is that its louder than a siren and is a deep tone, vehicles that don't respond to wig wag (going side to side trying to grab mirror attention) i would blast the bullhorn and if that fails then undertake. Goes to show even in a marked car you can be missed and why response drivers shouldn't assume they've been noticed simply because they have blue lights and a siren. Been saying it for ages, bullhorn and a HiLo siren works wonders.....really good tone that seems to grab more attention than a wail in my opinion and a bullhorn is good when up close and not noticed especially if you hold it down for a good few seconds it soon gets their attention!
Anyone taking bets that the drivers taking their time to move over are the ones most likely to complain about the time it takes for an ambulance to arrive?
The control to drive at those speeds is pretty amazing, considering the amount of muppet drivers around. Know that stretch of road very well. as I'm by J10 oft the M1. Random question but you may know my brother Jono who works as an Paramedic for East of England out of Hemel?
In the US, FTY (Failure To Yield) will usually get you a ticket in the mail (if the rig has dashcam and got yer plate). Curious why this run was 10 minutes drive-time, and so many miles covered though.
We always cover many miles on most jobs - however this particular run is being carried out by an Advanced Paramedic Practitioner Critical Care, so carrying specialist equipment and knowledge to assist at scene, so will travel further distances as there are less of them!
@@findthebadger418 Makes sense, thanks. It just struck me as long since 10 minutes is the goal we have in the VFD I'm in, but that's from the moment we're toned out, get to the House, gear up, be out the door, then drive to incident. So I was trying to figure out if the driver was ACLS or similar, or if it was mutual assistance to another district that was short on in-service rigs. It was a good example of a run for a video, combination highway and surface street driving, threading a couple of needles. And it's always nice to see (most) people move out of the way :P Now I just have to deal with the shock of seeing a Skoda that can shift it when needed :P
Always amazing to see how people react or don't react to a Eme car dehind them. Just goes to show how often people check mirrors to see what's happening behind them 🤔
Love the vids. Just wish we could see more of the start and end with u recieving the call and also arriving at the scene (minus any personal information of course)
not only are the cars not seeing you behind them but for most of the motorway run it is a 4 lane section and lanes 2 & 3 (especially 2) are pretty empty i normally drive a ducato van so have no internal rear view mirror and the noise level is much higher than a car so videos like your's remind me to keep looking in the side mirrors!
Seems like they are even worse than in my day - driving more and more like the average Australian. Good action by the two semi’s at 7:50, amazing the difference a couple of professionals make.
I don't know if it's part of driver training but when I learnt to drive back in 1980 my instructor then told me that you should do a mirror check about every seven seconds when you are on high speed roads along with your forwards observations.
Transport for London did a study on this showing that reflective markings make little difference - the biggest thing is vehicle positioning. It showed that a poorly marked, but well placed vehicle is more noticeable than a well marked, poorly positioned vehicle.
It seriously shocked me to see just how oblivious some people are when they're driving, particuarly on the motorway. I recently had an incident where a police car was coming up behind me in the far right lane rather fast, however, I spotted the blue lights easily 8-10 cars back and had more than enough time to move over and let them by. It's shocking little attention people pay.
Chris, in instances where you are having to undertake a vehicle as it’s failed to use their mirrors, please submit your dashcam footage to your local constabulary for them to consider proceedings against the driver for driving without due care and attention. It’s simply not acceptable and this driver would have been receiving a summons in the post had it done that to a roads policing vehicle. In terms of this situation specifically, I would have perhaps considered closing the gap slightly and sitting slightly more to the offside to try and get your headlamp flash into the offside mirror as undertaking should be an absolute last resort due to the risks involved of that vehicle suddenly seeing you and making a sudden and evasive manoeuvre.
When on a motorway I am always aware of what's around me, keeping the distance and checking mirrors every few seconds. I just cant comprehend that KIA...
Interested to see a comparison paramedic Skoda Scout estate, and a Ambulance M Benz, Fiat. Just to see how the manoeuvring through the traffic is like. Has any RUclips done this split screen comparison. Good response time though.
Everyone should be hotting the like but for this epic and safe driving especially when most people aren't aware of there surroundings whilst driving and also not checking your mirrors 😑
There was a merc at the end that cut across two lanes and ended up taking the wrong exit on the roundabout trying to get out of your way and if thats not me haha. I always end up making a wrong turn trying to get out of the way of emergency vehicles
Never ceases to amaze me just how little attention some people pay when they are driving, utterly shocking really. They drive amongst us everyday. A log of numberplates should be kept in obvious situations of drivers obviously not being aware of an emergency vehicle behind them when it is obviously safe and clear for said vehicle to change lanes or move to the side to let them past. A nice ticket in the post might wake them up and jolt them back to reality.
Give full beam that helps more than the blue light. I think drivers more triggered/aware by that. On the motorway it's always difficult because the cars in front do not hear the sirene until your are very close.
This is key. In this clip he could be a lot more proactive about getting in people's mirrors. You're actually more likely to catch someone's attention in their side mirrors than their centre one. Move left, move right, come right up close, drop back, lots of headlamp flashes...lots of proactive things you can do to get more visible. The 1+ minute section he was stuck behind the car in lane 3 just looked very passive. Otherwise nice and smooth as always though
Looks to me like that white Nissan at 5:51 did a good job at moving over from 3rd to 2nd lane in thinking the car in the 4th lane would move over, which it did not in fact do
Very professional advanced driving just interested if you ever do audible commentary like that of Police Pursuit, stating what your intentions are which exit (not over the radio but for your dash cam voice recorder). For example: Blue lights on Siren on Aware of Cyclist Taking exit 2 and signalling Leaving 2 seconds behind Merc that is blocking me ETA 7 minutes to casualty Making good progress BMW now blocking route Making note of index number to report to Police Van moving out of way - good use of mirrors Watch the pedestrian Richard The pedestrian on the pavement Hyacinth?
First of all, excellent driving from the ambulance driver. secondly it's annoyed me watching that, i can't understand how people can be so thick that they can't see an emergency vehicle coming up behind them to me they unmissable bright flashing lights, some of these need a 6 month driving ban for driving without due care and attention
I tell you what it must get bloody frustrating when drivers just won’t move over Chris. Watching you having to go around them is annoying to me. If I here a siren I prepare myself to mount the pavement or go through a red light and move over. One other thing I loved your blue car it did not rattle like this one does. It only needed battenburgs on it. But this one would drive me nuts rattling. But good driving. 👍
Sometimes I think there is something far more malicious than, "I haven't checked my mirrors or observed my surroundings (or have ears, apparently)" (Which is itself a bad thing, no excuses). Rather I think there is another thought taking place: "I am traveling faster than lane 2, so I will keep traveling in lane 3 until I have a gap ahead and then pull in for the emergency vehicle". I.e. "I am going to finish my overtake." My argument is this is first seen by the Merc (XJC 8) at 2:25, who has an open lane, with no obstructions, and plenty of time to plan, when they are going to move over. It takes them just shy of a minute. By 2:31 it is somewhat clear that the merc, if their observations were better, could have moved to lane 2 comfortably behind the van. But, no, now we're committed to the overtake. By 2:40, maybe the observation has kicked in, but it's now too little too late (there is a dab of brakes) there is now no option but to proceed with travel in lane 3. By 2:47, the fact that the van (who doesn't have rear view, just mirrors) has clocked the Emergency Vehicle and realized it wants to keep traveling in lane 3 has moved over (it could be it wants to go to St. Albans, but I don't find this as likely, as it doesn't continue moving over despite minimal distance/speed gains on lane 1 if did want to get off at St. Albans). 3:00. Suspicious the Merc seems to be pulling away? Looks like he's figured out he's been a bit of an arsehole here (as he's already held Chris up for 0:30 seconds) and is now racing to find a gap he can move into. 3:07 and there is the signal, showing he now is actively wanting to get into lane 2, it's taken him 36 seconds to reach this decision (and 2 wasted opportunities), but fair play he's got it now. 3:13 dab of brakes to try and slot in the gap. 3:17 and over he finally goes. Time behind Merc 46 seconds. 5:15 With some Credit to this Merc, he recognises the problem and sorts it, even though it means acknowledging he will need to complete his overtake *after* the Emergency vehicle has passed. It does take 15 seconds, but lane 2 wasn't fully clear for a safe switch for ~5 of them, but again if we didn't have this mantra of "I'm going to finish my overtake" he would have moved when the timer started as he *surely* saw the christmas tree on wheels coming (or heard it), but at least it was minimal. 5:51 The White Car does a reasonably alright job (an interesting move as it's nearly alongside the car in lane 1, who may not expect something moving back to lane 2 from lane 3 as it moves to overtake the lorry ahead, but this doesn't transpire) and makes enough room for the Kia to pull in behind the van (Opportunity 1). 6:22 This merc is on the ball and aims to make the space the fucking numpty refuses to take despite knowing that it will slow it down considerably [behind the coach] (opportunity 2). 6:28 Required overtake in lane 2. The Kia has had just shy of a minute of COMPLETELY UNOBSTRUCTED VIEW OF AN EMERGENCY VEHICLE ON CALL FLYING DOWN LANE 4. Kia LL21 TZW Hang your head in fucking shame, clearly the winner of the Sugar Puffs Drivers License give-away.
Reminds me of “The Liver Run” in 1987 when the police in their Rover SD1s were making an urgent delivery to a hospital patient, and were held up by a lorry on the M11. Some drivers were useless even in the 80s!
And thats why the ems cars in Germany (Rettungswagen) have a eardrum ripping airhorn on top, you simply cant turn your music loud enough to not hear it :D
sure you can, especially when the pneumatic siren is mounted incorrectly it has a lousy effect: loud in the very near surrounding, but can barely be heard in the distance

I love how people turn a 4 lane motorway into a dual carriageway

Great video Chris...
i thought they could.
Lane hoggers are common place everywhere!!
And because you see emergency vehicles so early and pull into the next lane, the other oblivious cars just use that opportunity to overtake you too...
Amazing how some drivers suddenly find there is actually a middle lane when a high visibility Emergency Vehicle 'Suddenly' appears behind them with flashing headlights and Blues
I'm a belgian fire engineer in training, your videos taught me a lot. Big thanks Martin!
Would have liked to see you get around the magic roundabout at the end there, some people on there are clueless
Be safe!
Due to pretty standard lane disciple nowadays Lane 2 of the motorway was virtually empty throughout most of the clip . great driving as usual chris
@@Jackilichous yes you’re right, but it’s not a law unfortunately, unless a police officer deems it driving without due care and attention
Cracking drive - but I was really looking forward to how you were going to approach The Plough Roundabout at the end!
Excellent video, the lack of situational awareness and mirror checks in some people is worrying. Thank you for sharing!
Should definitely report the driver that held you up for careless driving.
Never ceases to amaze me how much people don’t look behind, oblivious
the one that held you up for 60 seconds and still didnt move out of the way should get 6 points, undue care and attention and impeding an emergency vechicle.
In America if you hold up an emergency or do not move to let emergency vehicle through you get a ticket.
Most crews, depending on locations will do 6-7 a day on average. Cars can do anywhere between 0-10 depending on the dispatch model etc!
@@findthebadger418 Thank you
Was thinking just that about the Magic Roundabout! Would love to have seen him negotiate that!
Stopped just as it was getting to the good bit .... getting quickly around that roundabout!
Now I have my answer without ever needing to try it 😀
Your videos are like watching Grand Theft Auto if it was made in Luton.
Amazingly smooth driving as always in all your videos. Even at very high speed nothing ever seem to come up on you fast, if that makes sense, I think because of the way you anticipate the other drivers so we’ll. 👍🏻👍🏻
I love that bend! Used to go round that in my Supra many years ago 😄 GTA in Luton haha
Hats off to you Sir, a great job. My cousin is a lives paramedic in Lincoln. You are quite literally a life saver!
Jeez sorry about those people Chris. Great driving despite it, as usual.
Ride safe. Lane split but have headlight on and wear a high vis.
Don't lane split
@@pb6198 that's normal in London. Try going to Italy and not Lane splitting. We all do it. Why otherwise have a bike.
@@BenRudd3 why otherwise?
Fuel consumption
Lower tax
Lower insurance
Don't need much parking space if any, at home
Cheaper to buy
Cheaper to fix
You don't just buy a bike to pass and weave like a dick, unless you are a dick already
It always amazes me how many drivers fail to see what's going on around them. Question is what were they doing that prevented them from seeing you?
Possibly texting, but I find that there are a lot of people who are just stupid and totally oblivious to their surroundings - they'll hog the overtake lane going 55 and even if you tailgate them and flash your beams in an attempt to tell them to move over they'll be completely unaware.
just fixating on whats in front and not paying attention to the mirrors usually.
Loud, banging music probably doesn’t help awareness either.
Good lord. There are some incredibly dim people out there. They shouldn't have a licence.
That windscreen went from crystal clear, to bug splats everywhere!
Nice driving as always Chris. That Skoda looks quite powerful I must say.
Wow, that motorway run seemed to take longer than the town portion. Motorway drivers quite often appear to just go into some sort of deep standby mode. Great driving from you contrasted by quite a lot of bad awareness from others. Two ends of the driver spectrum.
Sans the slow couple you mentioned, there looked to be a lot of helpful and responsive drivers on that run and you made progress without stopping.
Would've loved to see you navigate that magic roundabout 😂. Anyways great response, lovely motorway manoeuvring, lovely roundabout stuff, keep up the good work.
I needed an ambulance in a hurry for a hart problem great bit of driving well done
Been saying it for ages, bullhorn and a HiLo siren works wonders.....really good tone that seems to grab more attention than a wail in my opinion and a bullhorn is good when up close and not noticed especially if you hold it down for a good few seconds it soon gets their attention!
normal car horn works most of the time pretty well, as long as it's not the horn of a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter or similar.
And it's always nice to see (most) people move out of the way :P
Now I just have to deal with the shock of seeing a Skoda that can shift it when needed :P
It's surprising by how many people are oblivious to what's behind them, also surprising by the number of cars lane hogging
Noooo, cut short before the magic roundabout. Would’ve been interesting to see how that was negotiated.
Lots of traffic there though yikes!
Always amazing to see how people react or don't react to a Eme car dehind them. Just goes to show how often people check mirrors to see what's happening behind them 🤔
Love the vids. Just wish we could see more of the start and end with u recieving the call and also arriving at the scene (minus any personal information of course)
not only are the cars not seeing you behind them but for most of the motorway run it is a 4 lane section and lanes 2 & 3 (especially 2) are pretty empty
i normally drive a ducato van so have no internal rear view mirror and the noise level is much higher than a car so videos like your's remind me to keep looking in the side mirrors!
Seems like they are even worse than in my day - driving more and more like the average Australian. Good action by the two semi’s at 7:50, amazing the difference a couple of professionals make.
The fact that they realised straight away and that black KIA on the motorway didn't even notice and held them up for over a minute as wel
I don't know if it's part of driver training but when I learnt to drive back in 1980 my instructor then told me that you should do a mirror check about every seven seconds when you are on high speed roads along with your forwards observations.
Nice driving. Congrats on the Platinum medal too 👍🏻👍🏻
Is there a difference in driver reaction time in a marked car than unmarked? What's your average run time depending on location.
You can see here there isnt much difference!
Transport for London did a study on this showing that reflective markings make little difference - the biggest thing is vehicle positioning. It showed that a poorly marked, but well placed vehicle is more noticeable than a well marked, poorly positioned vehicle.
The guy holding you up for a minute or so deserves to have the word “donkey” stamped on his forehead….
The bull horn may or may not be my favorite button for those cases, however it probably won't have had much effect tbh
Once I moved over I was 6 cars ahead I pulled in on on a lay by off a country road but the 6 cars kept going holding up the ambulance! All idiots.
Very impressive - greetings from Germany! - Please go on with your content!
Rear View mirrors. Probably the Number One Driving Aid. Shame so many do not understand that basic fact. Tunnel vision is a killer.
I wonder if it's the safe distance being kept that gives some (eg the CL) the illusion they are not holding up an ER vehicle behind them
Chris, in instances where you are having to undertake a vehicle as it’s failed to use their mirrors, please submit your dashcam footage to your local constabulary for them to consider proceedings against the driver for driving without due care and attention.
Your driving as quick as everyone else does in Luton haha
Thanks for the videos.
I mean, usually when the sirens on, im in the back lol.
Yep, staring at the ceiling.😂
Keep safe buddy.
When on a motorway I am always aware of what's around me, keeping the distance and checking mirrors every few seconds. I just cant comprehend that KIA...
I'm surprised. In this video, it was the van drivers who moved out of the way and the car drivers who weren't paying attention.
Interested to see a comparison paramedic Skoda Scout estate, and a Ambulance M Benz, Fiat. Just to see how the manoeuvring through the traffic is like. Has any RUclips done this split screen comparison. Good response time though.
Everyone should be hotting the like but for this epic and safe driving especially when most people aren't aware of there surroundings whilst driving and also not checking your mirrors 😑
awesome driving 👏👏👏🏴
There was a merc at the end that cut across two lanes and ended up taking the wrong exit on the roundabout trying to get out of your way and if thats not me haha. I always end up making a wrong turn trying to get out of the way of emergency vehicles
Brings back memories
Forcing Audi and Range Rover drivers out of the overtaking lane - this is what it feels like to have balls of steel :D
Jesus.. M1 motorists should be ashamed on this day
Never ceases to amaze me just how little attention some people pay when they are driving, utterly shocking really.
For example:
Blue lights on
Siren on
Aware of Cyclist
Taking exit 2 and signalling
Leaving 2 seconds behind Merc that is blocking me
ETA 7 minutes to casualty
Making good progress
BMW now blocking route
Making note of index number to report to Police
Van moving out of way - good use of mirrors
Watch the pedestrian Richard
The pedestrian on the pavement Hyacinth?
First of all, excellent driving from the ambulance driver. secondly it's annoyed me watching that, i can't understand how people can be so thick that they can't see an emergency vehicle coming up behind them to me they unmissable bright flashing lights, some of these need a 6 month driving ban for driving without due care and attention
wow this skoda must be so nice to drive -
I wonder if there's an inside tally the emergency services drivers keep to see who would have racked up the most penalty points by now 😄
I tell you what it must get bloody frustrating when drivers just won’t move over Chris.
I.e. "I am going to finish my overtake."
My argument is this is first seen by the Merc (XJC 8) at 2:25, who has an open lane, with no obstructions, and plenty of time to plan, when they are going to move over.
Kia LL21 TZW
Hang your head in fucking shame, clearly the winner of the Sugar Puffs Drivers License give-away.
Reminds me of “The Liver Run” in 1987 when the police in their Rover SD1s were making an urgent delivery to a hospital patient, and were held up by a lorry on the M11. Some drivers were useless even in the 80s!
Driving standards were no better then you know
6:47 A beautiful classic Mercedes Benz W126 on the right side.
Great driving as always
1st light junction looked like it unsettled the car abit. Not ya normal sport skoda haha
