Apart from admiration for your driving and work, your videos helped me last week down a North Devon country lane when I saw a police car with blue lights flashing behind me. I saw there was a blind bend in front so carried on round and then pulled in for the car to overtake safely. Your commentary, captioned or spoken, is invaluable.
Forever impressed by your ability Chris. As an instructor myself I understand the challenge of not only doing...but explaining your actions also. Incredible.
You drove past me between 8:00 and 9:00 (Won't narrow it down since number plates are visible). I recognised your car but wasn't sure whether it was you Chris since I've only seen you driving around north Hertfordshire in your vids. As ever, great work. I love these videos with the commentary
Evening ash, each service and Trust will have a driving policy with a cap, it varies but is loosely either speed limit + 20 or SL+50%. There is some flexibility for those having done advanced courses and can justify a bit more speed based on conditions, vehicle, traffic conditions etc but there is a limit.
@@ChrisMartinEMS - when you say "advanced courses", what are the levels - as such - for medical blue light drivers? I know the police have "basic" which can't use many of the exemptions their "standard response" or "advanced" graded drivers can, including blue lights to aid in making progress, but how does it work in your field?
I love this style of video, Listening to Chris guide on how to drive. How to correctly position themselves and use the correct tones for certain scenarios. Amazing driving and observing Chris.
The most impressive part for me is the restraint shown when a vehicle reacts poorly to your presence and hinders your progress. Zen like calmness which I guess helps when you arrive at the incident and have to switch to medic mode.
Thank you for your service of looking after and responding the way you do! Your an inspiration to us all by sharing your driving which in turn gives us a look at struggles you face while it gives us a chance to learn what to do safely when a fast blue light vehicle approaches. Most importantly everyone stays safe and you are able to arrive as quickly as possible!
I drive trains and at Reigate there is a level crossing right beside the station. It’s also on the main ambulance route to the M25 Junction 8. Once the barriers are down the crossing stays down until I’ve done my station duties and departed when safe, and so many times I feel so guilty coz I’m holding up ambulances. Can’t help it tho. Another great drive and great video 👍
I always struggle with this. These drivers drive like God would - if he ever had a car, then when they arrive at the scene their heart rate is expected to drop , so they can treat the patients. They must be insanely highly skilled people, and I am completely jealous , or possibly imported from another planet as an NHS slot in (unlikely). Keep up your fantastic work and skill level.
Thanks for the feedback. If people are liking this style of commentary I can always use a separate mic to ensure good voice capture and then use closed captions, maybe?
@@ChrisMartinEMS Honestly just closed captions would really help, I have hearing loss and struggle with normal volume sometimes anyway, and sirens will still be picked up with a different mic, and probably would be a faf to deal with. Thanks for checking this, pleasantly suprised!
Brilliant footage , Would love to see the camera positioned so that we can see your steering maybe in the centre console in the rear passenger seat so we can see how you apply the system in steering 😊
I noticed at 7:56 contrary to my expectations you went through the roundabout instead of taking the little slip road to bypass it (I visit the shopping centre in Watford quite often so I'm very familiar with that road). I guess that gives you more space and options to maneuver around traffic?
Seemed to me like he simply didn't really need or want to manoeuvre around the traffic before the roundabout to move all the way across onto the slip road, rather than preferring the roundabout itself
Hey Chris! There’s something satisfying about seeing cars move out your way. Please please get a speedo on camera so we can see your speed. That would be awesome!
That car forcing you to undertake at 03:57 seemed a bit unnecessary - they could have easily moved left, and would have had plenty of time to move back to the right once you'd passed them. The road wasn't particularly busy.
I think they saw the ambulance too late. Therefore they assumed the ambulance would just zoom past on the inside. I might have done the same in a panic, I don't know but it shows the importance of constantly checking all your mirrors.
I think these guys tend to go to the 'stay and play' incidents where things are too critical to move the patient before the Dr can help stabilise them (just my assumption as otherwise they are long runs)
The cut at 5 minutes in. He's in the lane to join the M1 going north, after the cut they're on the road to enter going south. They could have cut across two lanes of traffic but the video cuts, so I'm wondering if they did go wrong.
why dont you want to make people cross the line? it's an emergency, isnt it? or is it illegal in UK to cross the line even when an ambulance with music is behind you? (It's totally fine in Germany)
@@robholloway6829- I'm compelled to reply to you with a slight correction - contravening the Highway Code or flat out not following some parts of it doesn't immediately make your driving conduct illegal - hence why there's teminology such as "should not" in their and "must not", with the latter being linked to some legislation. So if it's a "must not" rule, then contravening it is an offence. Despite saying this, its quite possible that somebody's conduct could amount to careless driving, or driving without due care and attention, which indeed would see FPN/points on license/etc.

Stunning drive, precise and purposeful.
Evening Chris 👋Great video again! Is there a max speed you are capped to on open sections of Motorway or is it what you can get to safely?

chris, quick question. does having someone onboard with you change the handling and driving of the car in any way? many thanks
Hi there that was some superb driving well done ,
Would love to see a speedometer on these videos!

Hi chris can you explain a little bit about why you have an observer? do they make sure your driving is up t o standard or something?
Sounds like driver training to me.
Many blue light agencies have periodic assessments to keep their response certifications.
Thank you. Sorry to be a pain, is it possible to have your speed on the screen?
Thank you for another commentary video.
It's very impressive driving. But why are you always 100 miles from your incident!? 😂
I think because he is critical care, there are less of them about so they travel longer distances to get to incidents

I know those roads quite well, the north orbital and bricket wood - you have to be on full alert.
Once again brilliant driving
Do you ever accidentally go the wrong way? Like taking the wrong exit at a roundabout or something?

why dont you want to make people cross the line? it's an emergency, isnt it? or is it illegal in UK to cross the line even when an ambulance with music is behind you? (It's totally fine in Germany)
Yes exactly that, still illegal to cross the line on a red light + the added danger of pushing them into oncoming traffic.
Driving in any way which would normally be contrary to the Highway Code, even with Emergency Services behind you, is illegal in the UK.
A human police officer who saw you in context might forgive you. But an automatic camera might mean you have to attend court to explain what you did.
