it's up to us fans now to keep the sun up for the legacy for Thin Lizzy. Do for Phil, yourself and the future generations who has the right to share the same awesome experience we have !
"When I'm in England, I say, I'm from Ireland. When I'm in Ireland, I say, I'm from Dublin. When I'm in Dublin, I say, I'm from Crumlin. When I'm in Crumlin, I say, Leighlin Road. When I'm in Leighlin Road, I say, I'm a Lynott."
Awww brother, You made me smile and my heart fell off the curb after reading your comment. God bless man for the fucking most rock n roll comment ever. Peace !
I was lucky enough to see Lizzy several times. After they split up I saw Grand Slam in a pub in Bannockburn. They were at full volume, couldn’t hear anything for two days. No band ever came close to Lizzy. Still listening in 2020.
33 years ago today we lost a true Rock Star in every sense of the word Phil Lynett .... 33 years ago today this wonderful chap departed,a poet,a bassist,a rocker ... 33 years ago today Phil Lynott passed away....Gone but never forgotten...
33 years ago? We lost this wonderful person a poet, a bassist, a rocker, a singer and songwriter I love Phil Lynott it’s sad for me that he passed away he was a beautiful man 😇🙏🕊🌼🌸🌸🌺🌼🌹🌹🌹🌹🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷☮🎸
both awesome solos...... Scott Gorham is such an awesome player, he could hold his own with any player that came through the band....... and a real nice guy too....
This song is a masterpiece. Huge atmosphere, huge emotion...And welcome all drummers around the world to try capture this pulsating excellence by Brian Downey...
Lynott never wanted permanent guitarists in his band.It is obvious from each song he composed needed the unique guitarist to add flavor to the whole gig.He was specific on Moore ,Gorham,sykes......I tell you the new generations rock artists will never stand in the lines of rock star performers between 60- 80's.Who is there to beat lynott, queen, deep purple ....right now.The uniqueness in their songs has created the feeling 'old is gold'.I never get tired listening to this song
What d'ya mean, ONE of the best bands ever??? It IS the BEST band ever!!!! Thanks for posting, the world will never come across another band like Lizzy!
I remember I cried when Phil had died. This film really touched me and made me cry so deeply. He seems so far gone. The pain in his eyes... Rest in peace Phil, and thank you for what your music meant to me growing up.
Man, what a killer song, played perfectly...live. A ton of feeling. It's not always about how hi or low you can sing but whether or not it moves ya. RIP Phil.
Super..... Phil just three years before he passed away, RIP. A great documentary on Irish TV some years ago played this tune. Lovely, poignant to hear it again-Phil one great songwriter.
How to hell has this classic not got at least a million views one of the best songs of all time been sang by the legend himself the one and only Phil Lynott makes me proud to be Irish RIP PHILO
It is so sad, that this guy died - I walked with him down Grafton Street - and I am still a big fan of him. I am sure he reads what we are writing! Karl
This reminds me of a dear friend of mine that I have lost due to drugs, he's still alive but not the same. We use to ride BMX then go session guitars and drink beers together. Good times. This solo sends shivers down my spine.
Zero_Cool Don't give up on your friend mate trust me it's time like he is experiencing now with the Drugs and all the shot that goes with them that he needs his true friends I know cause sadly iv been fucked up by herion for over 20 years everyday is a struggle just to try and get through the day without useing so I know what it feels like when a true friend is there for you when times get hard
Still can't believe he's gone. One of the best songs by Lizzy. Had the honour of seeing them in '81. To this day never seen anything that compares and seen too many. Music just not the same...Still out here xxx
I had this cassette when I was in the Navy in Japan(mid 80's) listening to it in my walkman at night, and this song brings back haunting memories and a surreal feeling that no other music these days can invoke......Phil lives....
My 15 year son thinks Lizzy blows away the current band of popsters. They were truly great and I hope Phil gets the recognition he deserves in music history, I last saw him in Grand Slam in 1984 at the London School of Economics; there were only a couple of hundred people there. But something not to be forgotten. Fantastic talent.
bumped into phil lynott at jethro tull gig at hammersmith year before he died, he signed my friend's rizlas then stole the papers! also, remember this being played at reading rock, i lost my mates & was stuck at the campsite whilst this was on, i stood on a car to try & see, but hearing this always reminds me of that great atmosphere on an august evening in reading & how brill they were!
I saw them on this tour at the Queens Hall in Leeds. It was sheer brilliance. This brings it all back. If I could see one more gig like that before I go I'd be a happy man. I'll never see anything like it again though.
Love you, love you, love you......The Sun Went Down Too Long Ago Now xxxx Thank you to You Tube for keeping your memory Alive and all the Cool people who upload your music xxx A live experience I'll never forget....CLASS..xxxx
Of all the rock stars who didn't survive, I think I miss Phil the most. I just wish he was still alive. All credit to the band on this track, as every one of them is spot on.
Very talented musician 💗 shy and sensitive - lovely lyrics - huge loss to music and humanity ! Heartbreaking that so called friends didn’t help him more RIP 💗💗
one the best bands of all time. i saw this tour and others. phil lynott is so missed. a true rock legend. he had such charisma and presence. long live lizzy and mr phil lynott.
Thinn Lizzy..., Yeah, one of the best musically, energetic Rock Band of all time`! Phil Lynott, we miss you so much...You`ll always stay in our memorys. People, enjoy this phenomenal sound! swisspadraig
Classic! When Thin Lizzy did a slow song they always got everything just right, subtle blend of guitar riffs in just the right places. Still my No1 band of all time.
It reminds me at my youth. Being in love, having a broken heart, drinking too much alcohol and so on... Well - this is so long ago. I LOVE THIS SONG!!!
Always loved this guy and his band, all the different lineups. We all miss you Phil, like all Legends you'll live on till the last memory forgets you, but that will never happen man. Patde bastard.
@TheKoC101 my sentiments exactly. When l was at concerts then, these guys were so open and easy going. We respected them and they love us as fans. We drank lots of allohol and easy living. From 69 to 89 major years of music. And it a pleasure to see these guys play.
Sung with feeling while fighting those inner demons. Lucky enough to see them in 1979 and that memory will never fade, i have never stopped listening and never will. I just can understand how so many say they were under rated, the Lizzy name lives on, even my teenage daughter and her mates have them on their Ipods. Just wish Grand Slam took off for Phil, check out some of those live tracks folks they were bloody good, long live the Lizzy name.
Who is still listening to this in 2020? I love this song so much
I'm listening too , because it's a beautiful song . Besides , others too . I love Philip's voice at all 🎶🎸♥️

it's up to us fans now to keep the sun up for the legacy for Thin Lizzy. Do for Phil, yourself and the future generations who has the right to share the same awesome experience we have !
"...no, it's not Whiskey in the fucking Jar" kills me every time.
and "sorry for cursing mother"
Ha! ha! thanks for that - after thirty years of me thinking he said '**** hurts the mother!'
Me too I hate that song
This guy was a brilliant songwriter...
That man was a poet
like Lemmy=Great bass
The best
So true. Both lyrically and musically.
My dad and relatives were from bangor road, crumlin.
Cool Wacky, gotta love the big fella...
Awww brother, You made me smile and my heart fell off the curb after reading your comment. God bless man for the fucking most rock n roll comment ever. Peace !
Thank you Jesus for giving us Phil Lynott for even just a little while.
Ditto
Speechless every time I hear this, wish you were still here Phil.
Sorry what's happening to him?
The song is crippling. A beautiful dark journey of simplicity.
I was lucky enough to see Lizzy several times. After they split up I saw Grand Slam in a pub in Bannockburn. They were at full volume, couldn’t hear anything for two days. No band ever came close to Lizzy. Still listening in 2020.

Gorhams solo is the best, classic Lizzy and tasteful...not trying to show off. A+++ song.
RIP Phil.
i always get the vibe from this song almost that phil knew he didnt have much time before the sun went down on him
I get the same vibe from the song "Got to Give it up"
Yeah that song I think summed him up perfectly. He knew what he had to do, but couldn't do it :(
Looks so ill here too
@@Muddyspace And a haunting look in his eye. RIP Philip. You are forever loved.
I agree with your guys comments ☮️👊
Over 30 years gone - hard to believe - and as good as the day I first heard.. Loved Philip :o)

both awesome solos...... Scott Gorham is such an awesome player, he could hold his own with any player that came through the band....... and a real nice guy too....
Absolutely! It wasn't John Sykes' best solo at the end though
Dont know how many times I´ve heard this song......never enough!!
What a solo from Scotty!
+Jesse Payne also John Sykes.
This song is a masterpiece. Huge atmosphere, huge emotion...And welcome all drummers around the world to try capture this pulsating excellence by Brian Downey...
The ultimate Thin Lizzy song. Pure magic from beyond.
The late Phil Lynott & Gary Moore, Thin Lizzy music shall never die. Cannot beat the extended version feat John Sykes.
I was at this show!(1983) It was John Sykes 1st ever gig with Lizzy, and filmed for BBC Concert !

Man, what a killer song, played perfectly...live. A ton of feeling. It's not always about how hi or low you can sing but whether or not it moves ya. RIP Phil.
This is up there with the best ever Lizzy songs. How many bands truly made their last album one their best? This band did. Signed off in style.

I'm proud to be Irish and I think Thin Lizzy represents the blue collar people trying to do it right. Thanks for posting the song.

The black man with the bass and the voice. Nice one, Phil.
They made those Les Pauls sing.
Not keen on Lizzy's last-gasp 'metal' phase but even so, Sykes leathered it. Great band.
Musn't forget BD on the kit either - perfect drummer.
It is so sad, that this guy died - I walked with him down Grafton Street - and I am still a big fan of him. I am sure he reads what we are writing!
Karl

Both Led Zeppelin and Thin Lizzy are rock n' roll royalty. Both amazing bands in their own right. Both of them among my all time favorites.
I was lucky enough to catch them on this tour. Great gig. Good memories, standing center stage right at the front. Magical.
