When the A380 was under construction and development they would often fly to Keflavik airport in Iceland when winds were very high for practicing. It’s indeed a great aero plane.

I've flown on the 380 several times and it amazes me that a plane of this size can even take off and fly, let alone fly that fast for more than 14 hrs 😅😅

Oddly on this day the wind in Gatwick was as strong and planes were diverting from Gatwick. I think what surprised me most about this flight was that it was a fuel emergency. Generally speaking on days like this. From my own 10 years experience. You would take enough fuel for two approaches followed by a diversion to a more suitable aerodrome and perhaps even two approaches there. I think this A380 did one approach into heathrow.

32.8 million stories behind the stories making headlines. BBC 80 presents, "Around The World In Naked Gatwick". 32.8 million stories behind the larger stories making headlines.
Overview: "This is far more than an ounce of ho-hum bitches and moans. The series presents blow by blow tales (accounts) of experiences contained within a city, calling itself an airport facility. The trials, the tribulations, the pleasures and the thoughts expressed by each and every passenger moving throughout the facility complex during early 2022 through to the early 2023 period.
Told in real terms by real passengers (even domestic pets). What they experienced (and didn't experience). What they missed (and didn't). How they spent their money, even how they felt about the public lavatories. More especially, how they felt about each and every minute of their fabulous experiences".
A TV series not to be missed if you enjoy hearing the heart felt stories of airline travellers transiting or visiting fabulous adventure playgrounds such as this.
The pilot for the series will air in early 2024.

Surprisingly, it's such a short hop skip and a jump (in flying terms) from Heathrow to Gatwick LHR to LGW but there seems to have been such a vast wind velocity variation. Bear in mind too, that both LGW and LHR have (more or less) East & West aligned runways, so crosswind considerations probably wouldn't have been much of a consideration in relation to the reason for diverting. Still, it did seem to pertain to the very gusty wind conditions at LHR on that day.
