When the king says “Do not alert him to my presence” all I can see is Darth Vader.
I can never hear James Earl Jones without hearing Darth Vader, EXCEPT for The Lion King, for some reason.
That’s exactly what Darth Vader said in Return of the Jedi
"No. Leave them to me. I will deal with them myself."
Andy-ju8bb you mean hear*, not see*. As James Earl Jones was only the voice of Vader.
I actually found a video of Darth Vader speaking lines from this movie.
I'm only ~12 minutes in and PRAYING that you stuck around for the credits to see just how many parts Eddie and Arsenio played😂
I did
Mufasa wearing Mufasa is such an Easter egg
Unintentionally, though, since _The Lion King_ hadn't been created yet.
I dont know if you already know this but the king and queen of Zamunda, James Earl Jones and Madge Sinclair, play the same role of king and queen in the Lion King. If you want to see more of Eddie Murphy playing several characters check out the Nutty Professor.
Then you could watch the original 'Nutty Professor' (1963) with Jerry Lewis.
Hercules! Hercules!
@@libertyresearch-iu4fy That would be awesome!
Eddie Murphy and Arsenio do a lot of role playing of different characters. I think the most impressive one is him doing the old Jewish guy in the barbershop
The basketball game vendor Eddie briefly met, "just a man I met in the restroom", was also in Die Hard 2.
He fought McClane first in the luggage area, escaped and Colonel Stuart told him, "You fail me again, and the chamber won't be empty".
Vondie Curtis Hall!! I always liked him, but I don’t see him as much in film as I used to.
My family quotes this movie often. So many gems 😂 “Let them wait!” “Stop that man! Thief! Thief” “F*ck you & f*ck you, who’s next?” & “Momma named him Clay. Imma call him Clay” & “What is this? Velvet?” And we randomly bust out singing “she’s your queen to be” when we see something that reminds us of Oha or a African woman. We say “Sexual Chocolate” (or do the finger guns to leave a room) 😂 This movie is a classic!
Your family sounds FUN! 😅
@@CinWin516 NEVER a dull moment 😂
Damn shame what they did to that dog.
Sounds like me and my friends too! You ALWAYS do the fingers when you say Sexual Chocolate!! I’d also like to add ‘who’s gonna clean up all these flowers!!’ 😂😂😂
The one you keep referring to is the food taster. If you notice in the film she takes a nibble of the food before it hits the table she's responsible to make sure the king and queen do not get poisoned
When Louie Anderson says "Now Im washing lettuce, next year I'll be on fries" Is actually a super quoted funny line everyone always referenced for years after this came out
I think you missed a hilarious line in the "Queen to be song" ~ "An object of affection, free from infection..." It cracks me up every time.
36:19 - that fancy woman was the queen's assistant, head maidservant, taste tester, that sort of thing.
Their title is "Lady--in-Waiting". They serve as the Queen's top assistant.
@@bigb2494 I couldn't remember the English term. Thank you. Lady in Waiting.
@@bigb2494 Thank you! I was here, hoping someone would save me to trouble. 👍🏾🙆🏾♀️🇺🇦
If you wanna see Eddie Murphy play a ton of characters in one movie then you gotta watch “The Nutty Professor” he’s so great
One of the funniest romantic comedy movies ever made!
"Distinguished Gentleman" - another Eddie Murphy 90s comedy when he takes on Washington politics.
Such a good movie!!! No one talks about it!
An absolutely underrated movie. Loved it.
It’s also a glimpse into how nothing get done and money comes from both sides, but the wealthy side supports the wealthy interests instead of the countries.
Support the Sugar manufacturers or the Dentist and Insurance companies? All votes go to keep the rich getting richer and you want to make change they’ll block you or make it difficult. The well being of others doesn’t compare to the greed of power and keeping it.
@@athens_1psvr31 Desire for power, control and wealth was what drove humans from the caves into skyscrapers. It's hard to turn off such powerful gene drives.
I have said in many comment sections that Mr McDowell’s character redemption arc may be one of my favorites of all time. He comes off as greedy and materialistic throughout the movie, but his awesome true colors show through when someone upsets “daddy’s little girl”.
“No way, you don’t have enough money to buy my daughter off”, and “This America, Jack! You say one more word about my daughter and I will break my foot off in your royal a$$!” are my personal favorite lines in the movie.
1. They killed the multiple roles.
2. The appearance of the Dukes is an "Easter egg" from "Trading Places".
3. "I'll just tell you one time, if you want to keep working here, you have to stay off the drugs." 🤣
4. James Earl Jones AND John Amos! GMAFB
5. A movie featuring John Amos worth a first time/share is "The Beastmaster".
I had cats named Kodo and Podo. The only pit they saved me from was sadness.
I still say, "That's beautiful! What is that? Velvet?" every time the old lady asks if she looks nice.
Legend has it... the bride-to-be is still barking like a big dog hopping on one leg
She still is....in the sequel lol 😆
Boomerang and Bowfinger are both really funny Eddie Murphy movies.
Is Boomerang the one with the mushroom suit?
@@sharpgirl72 I don't think so, that's not ringing any bells for me.
@@sharpgirl72 Yes it is. The late John Witherspoon wearing his coordinated mushroom accessories. Eddie wrote John's part specifically for him.
Another fun fact about this movie. James Earl Jones a.k.a King Jaffe Joffer played the voice of Mufasa/The King in the Lion King and Madge Sinclair a.k.a Aoleon/The Queen voiced Sirabi/The Queen in Lion King.
The shot of Akeem in the barber's chair, with the old white man in the back (Eddie in whiteface), is an incredible FX shot.
Love this movie, looking forward to watching it with you 😊 hello from Australia!
Hope you enjoy it!
If I weren't bald I'd be using "Soul Glo" right now!
Dangit, the jingle is stuck in my head now. Thanks.
Yes, thank you Stephanie. Such a great film.
Agreed it was great
Me and my brothers quote this movie ALL THE TIME. We usually go with "Fuck you! Yes, yes, fuck you too!"
Such a classic!
Did you notice that he censors his videos? Maybe follow suit with your comments?
@@athens_1psvr31 Only censored as with most reactors due to the ridiculous YT policies or else it may get demonetized.
@@athens_1psvr31 Wait... what? Are you telling me I can't curse on youtube coments?
24:19 - "It was Duke and Duke, or something like that, I can't remember their last names."
24:05 - "Randolf", "Leave me alone Mortimer."
Yep it's the Dukes. Randolph and Mortimer Duke. There company even makes a small appearance in the sequel Coming2America
Another great movie that really shows Eddie's singing abilities - dream girls. A lot of famous people in that movie
ABSOLUTELY! Dreamgirls shows off some amazing acting and singing abilities across the board.
Thanks for recognizing Louie Anderson!!!!
I think you’re the only reactor that has !!
Louis was so funny in his stand up comic routines.
No doubt!
mr. mcdowell played by john amos was also played James Evans the father from GoodTimes
Thank you, Stephanie!
Agreed
You're welcome! I love seeing James laugh at all these old classics
Love this film !! The fancy woman was the queens lady in waiting ,a female personal assistant at a court, attending on a royal woman .
Without a receipt in queens those ear rings are worth $50 bucks
Watches too.
But can you imagine their worth now?? They were 500k back in 88!
First reaction tuber I've seen that understood the Babar reference.
James, I Have A Fun Fact For You, The young Man In The Barbershop Chair Is Cuba Gooding Jr. His First Major Movie! MIND BLOWN!!!
Mr Mcdowell is also the father in the old Sitcom in 80's called "Good Times"
Also had the tge emphasis Dynaoimte guy. Lol. Who here knows his name
Jimmie Walker!!! I'm old, I watched Good Times, What's Happening and Welcome Back Carter.
@@sharpgirl72 me too. Loved it. Grew up on it Jeffersons Belvedere, family ties but Dynomite was absolutely the best
Funny part is, when I saw you reacted to this movie. I checked your list of videos to see if you watched Trading Places yet. Glad you are at this point, though I tend to be a bit more subtle with my spoilers :)
Edit: I'm disappointed, when you rambled off the people you knew I thought you were going to be like... I knew Eddie Murphy, James Earl Jones, Arsenio Hall, Eddie Murphy, the dad he was from Die Hard, Eddie Murphy.....
Cool, thanks
Before Wakanda, there was Zamunda!! Classic movie.
Your great 👍
The girls father (John Amos), is from a 70s sitcom GOOD TIMES, with Jimmy Walker, Janet Jackson was a little girl and had a part in that show.
💙👍
I have a t shirt that black and white and it has Dr Martin Luther King and the barber who talked about meeting him lol
5:48 These are real dancers from an African tribe.
Great reaction James to a eddie murphy classic very funny movie
Harlem Knights and Life are a couple fave Eddie Murphy films!
This and Harlem Nights are my favorite Eddie Murphy movies. Harlem Nights have a bunch of legends in that movie.
Mets and the Jets are historically Queens related teams. Dads from Queens before moving to KS so we always love this movie. Great reaction
The woman next to Eddie Murphy while they eat breakfast is breakfast is the family’s food taster, to make sure none of the food has been poisoned before they eat it themselves. Apparently there was a scene cut to show that in the film.
Eddie Murphy's, Randy Watson & his band “Sexual Chocolate” ends the song on stage at the church & Randy Watson drops the microphone & walks away. You said "Mic Drop" because it's a well know thing. It is in fact, a well known & much copied thing today, because 'Randy Watson' dropped the mic & walked off the stage in the film "Coming to America" in 1988. Yes... This film was the start of it all, the origin of the 'Mic Drop'.
Now for the sequel Coming 2 America. A fun movie that doesn't take itself seriously.
This is actually a very heartwarming story. It’s nice to see Eddie Murphy play a straight man, but manage to play other more colorful characters. I’ll recommend The Nutty Professor with him in it, because he plays the whole family. So glad you watched this!
That woman you were wondering about is to the Queen what Semi (Arsenio Hall) is to Akkem (a chief of staff/personal servant). At one point in the movie she even tastes the Queen's food before the Queen is permitted to eat it.
If you want to see Eddie Murphy in all his glory and in multiple roles I recommend THE NUTTY PROFESSOR.
The parents are the people who voiced the parents on the lion king Disney movies
18:47 That guy was also in Die Hard 2. He fought John McLean in bag room.
This is the golden age of Eddie Murphy. Love it!
The white guy in the barbershop is Eddie Murphy too
Great reaction I enjoyed every minute of it, thanks for sharing with us.
Fun Fact: For the scenes in Zamunda they used a place called Neverland Ranch which was Michael Jackson's home and nearly all the animals you saw actually belonged to Michael.
James earl jones was the voice of that lion he's wearing, his name is mufasa
Hey James, fun fact for you:
James Earl Jones and Madge Sinclair, who played Eddie Murphy's parents in this movie, also voiced Simba's parents in The Lion King
11:07
"He Sounded Like Eddie Murphy When He Said That"
That's right, James, because It was Eddie Murphy. This is one of the first movies Eddie Murphy's done where he'd multiple characters
They did a pop up McDowell's restaurant a couple of years back before the second movie released.
Good reaction James....
They did make a sequel called 'Coming 2 America' in 2021 (however it is Amazon Prime exclusive though) with much of the original cast returning and a bunch of new faces. It has received mixed reviews from fans but my girlfriend & I enjoyed it. It is up to you if you want to see it.
Thanks Stephanie 😊
$500,000 in 1988 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $1,320,084.53 today.
Cuba Gooding Jr in the barber chair. Paula Abdul choreographed Imani's dramatic entrance. Mr. McDowell is John Amos from Good Times fame.
27:20 - best moment in the movie!
RIP Louis Anderson
And Madge Sinclair. May our queen rest in peace.
AWESOME MOVIE AND WORK BRO THANKS!!!! GREETINGS FROM HELSINKI, FINLAND🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸
For your information...
I hope that you realize that the king and queen of zamunda were the same actors who played the king and queen of Lion King... Very interesting fact!!!!
28:44 That’s the same line the James Earl Jones said in Return of the Jedi, Darth Vader : No. Leave them to me. I will deal with them myself.
The lady wiring Semi's money request, also played Henry Hills mom in Goodfellas.
Did you recognize the kid getting a haircut in the first barbershop scene?
Not many do. Someday he will SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!!!
I’m shocked you haven’t seen this already. Great reaction
Also there is one movie I really really really want you to see is “The Thing” I’ve been waiting for a while now😢😂
Noted!!!!
John Carpenter right?
@@sharpgirl72correct!
A lot of great celebrities in this movie just remember if they’re in this movie there are a celebrity you may not recognize them, but they are even the elephants Babar had their own show
Fun fact Louie Armstrong is one of three white people in the movie and the other two are from Trading Places
Really? There weren't any at the charity thing?
Even ignoring the extras, the Cab Driver had a speaking role as well.
You should check out Eddie Murphy , Martin Lawrence and Bernie Mac in the Comedy/Drama Life.
This is beautiful! What is it? Velvet? I still use this line today.
Brilliantly funny and quite romantic!
This movie has a sequel and I think its just as funny.
It was so much fun to see you laughing with this! Now that you've seen Don Ameche in this and Trading Places, it's time for Cocoon! I think you'll love it (I'm sure it's been recommended). I have thought about if I would want the kind of attention that seems to follow "commoners" who marry royalty and that's not for me. I like privacy! But I would love to have the kind of money and influence that comes with being royalty, so I could help a lot of people (hopefully) and make some positive changes in the world. Lisa seems like that kind of person, so she's definitely going to be a hands-on "princess of the people".
I don't follow sports closely, but I usually watch playoffs and championship games, especially college.
Hi James. For a farmer, you have damn good lighting on your green screen. Doesn't matter. I like your videos and would like to see a film. "K-Pax"
The dad is the dad from Good Times
Aikeems parents are also simbas parents in the movie the lion king. Sadly we've lost mom shortly after the lion King was released
36:14 she was the queens servent.
The fancy woman was the queens servant.
i never realized the guy getting a haircut is cuba gooding jr.
I love the baby Babar!
Harlem Nights - Eddie Murphy Richard Pryor and many others, its hilarious
Theres a lot of Eddie Murphy films. Lol
Great reaction! Love this film, Eddie and Arsenio are hilarious. Eddie has A LOT of films but I prefer his earlier work. For nonstop laughs try:
Harlem Nights
Boomerang
Life
And also 48hrs & Another 48hrs are great buddy cop comedies starring Eddie and Nick Nolte.
A sequel came out on Netflix a couple years ago. I haven't seen it though.
The sequel is an Amazon Prime exclusive.
A great Eddie Murphy movie… 48 hours ☺️
The lady in the royal palace was the food taster incase someone tried to poison the food
This was Samuel L Jackson's first movie.
Bark like a big dog .....😂😂😂
The guy who posed with Akeem at the game was one of the bad guys in _Die Hard 2._
I can’t believe you went into this not knowing that Eddie and Arsenal play multiple characters in this.
Duke and Duke baby!!!
20:05 no, Mr. McDowell is a Mandinka warrior from the movie Beastmaster.
Another great reaction James, love it. Fyi there is a sequel & I believe it’s a Netflix exclusive.
Amazon Prime exclusive....
