He's better than Cole to some including myself so there's that.. he put out singles EPs and the Collab project with Flatbush zombies and the underachievers so he hasn't been completely off the radar you're just sleepin
@Brandon Elias I think the new stuff is solid it's jus music to rock and vibe to, tho I didn't like the revenge as much, beast coast is a very solid project imo they jus went for that modern sound and killed it.. if they stuck to that 1999 boom bap shit ik y'all would be bitching for something new or say they fell off..
I like the comparison to odd future, because that is actually one aspect they possibly have in common, that being the groups were just vessels for a dope artists to propel themselves
They never fell off or loss popularity. Joey is a A List Celebrity, actor, and fashion icon. Nyck and CJ are still making music, touring and have a VERY LARGE fan base. Chuck is still making music and is in high demand for production out LA. Powers Pleasant is still DJing heavily and doing ALOT of shows. By the way CJ is just as big as Joey on the underground scene. He just dropped a project recently.
As a collective, they missed their window. Cause they could’ve and should’ve been WAAAYYY bigger. I always compare them to OF cause of their collective talent but Odd future split too, yet all of them collectively are more well known than that of Pro Era. Frank is one of the most sought after artist that people feign to hear, Tyler is doing BIG things! Syd & the internet are doing their THING!.. Earl has the underground on lock with the alchemist, Knxwledge and all of them.. Domo doing his thing! Even Hodgy Beats aka Jerry has rebranded himself and is making it musically…. They’re all killing it with names for themselves… on the other hand, If you wasn’t true fan of Pro Era you won’t really know who Dirty Sanchez is or A la sole aka Aaron Rose, or Dyemond Lewis (who left the group), or Dessy Hinds, a lot of people don’t even really know Kirk like that. So they definitely could’ve been bigger.. & STEEZ passing away had a lot to do with it.. RIP King CAPITAL
It's really cool seeing this shit through the eyes of someone a little younger than me. I was in college around this time. I'm a little jealous that I didn't have this experience when I was in high school.
Out of all of them I think chuck went in the best direction. Linked up with all those new dope lofi / minimal lyrical rappers (the Slums crew and associates). If he's in that scene I reckon he will keep dropping heat for a while. Great hip hop subgenre if you haven't sussed. Earl sweatshirt is probably the most known rapper in it these days but Mavi is also dope.
Thanks for covering this, been missing PE lately. PEEP has been on rotation a lot since the 10th anniversary passed. Being a teen in Brooklyn when 1999 / PEEP came out was such a surreal feeling. I think another important part of Joey's career was when XXXTentacion died. They seemed to make a really strong bond within the time that they knew eachother and for Joey to lose someone else that was close to him must have been devastating.
Thee Way Eye See It by CJ Fly & Disguise The Limit by Nyck Caution were dope projects by PE, also Kirk Knight produced Plain Jane by A$AP Ferg. I always looked forward for a Dessy Hinds project from 2012-2016 but it never came. I thought they would have took of advantage when they had some more buzz, but s/o to PE they came through with some dope music.
I think cj fly's thee way eye see it was one of the best projects that came out the earlier days when pro Era was popping. I think he's the most underrated member in the group that's still active now.
I felt the label didn't give a damn about pro era and mainly just joey and a very select few members of pro era. So the label put most of the marketing and budget behind joey and let the rest of the group fall to the wayside. Plus the fact that music started to evolve more and pro era got boxed into the classic 90s rap hip hop genre. OG pro era fans like the classic old zchool style, but it doesn't appeal to new listeners that much. So their fanbase doesn't grow but instead it stagnates and slowly decreases because many of the pro era members dont consistently drop music. But idk if they're not dropping music because of label politics or because they just aren't dropping. But I think that's what struck a major blow to pro era, not dropping And being boxed into 90's hip hop. Cuz even Flatbush and underachievers weren't boxed in as 90's rappers, they had their own unique sound. I think the zombies outlasted the others because everything they do comes from in house. No label cuckery and they don't have to rely on any outter entity for beats merch and release dates
Summer Knights and 1999 was litty. after that his music declined significantly. I think the hunger is lost after success. Happens all the time in music. 1999 brought that feeling
Dirty Sanchez is still active, super active he creates and drops almost Bi Weekly 47 Merch plus his music and still consistently holding it down for Steez . Cj is bouta drop a lil project , Nyke still doing shows making numbers & Kirk just got a platinum plaque for his producing plus his own music he’s got on the side . Chuck is constantly making beats and dropping projects They all got different paths and things going for themselves at the root of it all it’s still 47
Bruh this man obviously wasn’t a real fan of pro era lol. He said the they only had 1 collab project when they’ve had 5. Not to mention Kirk knight and Nyck Cautions collab project Nyck@Knight. And Peep the aprocolypse wasn’t their first. It was the first Seccs Tape. And their only competitor wasn’t only odd future at the. They came up during the “new New York wave” where a lot of solidified ny rappers came up and some fell off like ASAP mob, action Bronson, bodega bamz, suicideboyz, Troy Ave etc. And CJ Fly is arguably amazing, all his single projects are fire. I feel like they haven’t even fallen off, I feel like they have a cult following and they’ll remain underground considering they have their own label and it’s doing well for the underachievers sales wise. Not all of them are as successful as Joey, CJ, Nyck, and Chuck though.
Being in the 6th grade-7th grade listening to these guys especially Steez, I was just in ah cause I used to think these guys were like gods of rapping😂😂😂 Joey shouldn’t have been the only booming right now though..
Bro I just miss their Cyphers and the best thing ever came out before each member going solo was the Beast Coast Album in collab with The Underachievers and Flatbush Zombies. Now everyone’s going solo with no collab in sight for a sign of hope. We need this experience once more.
The PE cypher pt 1 and 2 together is still my favorite. Dirty Sanchez is fire, a la sole was fire, swank master raw was fire, shit even Kirk Knight was fire in that cypher.
PRO ERA was Dope!!! They needed a better Strategic plan in order for every artist under the roster to be equally successful, like the Juice Crew/ Flava Unit/ or even a lot of the extended members of the WU Tang Clan (Killa Beez)
@@maximuskeyes5914 bc they believe in the same music and they style of hip hop wasn’t for that generation doing that time but they all had different opportunities outside of music they went for it Griselda was more hungry for it and took it
Kirk Knight one of the best producers in the industry (prod. A$AP Ferg, Lil Wayne, Juice WRLD, etc) & NYCk Caution can hang with the best lyricists too
Good video/breakdown. I love Pro Era. You're right that they definitely just had that combination of swag, skills, & style, especially for a group so young. I didn't get into a lot their group stuff, besides Joey's material where they were featured, until the last couple years. But been listening to them heavily since. I obviously knew them because of Joey & have always loved his flow as he's one of my favorite contemporary rappers. They could've been really special as a group. Like you said I think two of the big reasons they fell off as a group was that they really were #1. Just too big in size. It's hard to be very successful over a long period of time with a group that big. Even Wu-Tang during their rise focused on a lot of their solo projects for 4 years (with a lot of features from other members) before they dropped their second group album in 1997. & I think that was the right move. #2. reason was definitely Steez's death. Suffering a loss of someone who had that kind of impact, leadership & skills to a group would be devastating & I just don't see how you'd be able to recover from that fully or how it'd ever be the same. He probably would've been one of the all time greats had he lived even a few years longer. I'm sure there were other reasons but feel like those were big factors that kinda killed their buzz/progress. I'm still a huge fan & will always bump their stuff. Fav. posse cuts besides Suspect (Third Eye Shit) are Last Cypher (Peep The Aprocalypse) & Sorry Bonita (Summer Knights). Those tracks really showcases all their skills. But with that said, hard not to think what could've been.
'Thee Way Eye See It' by Cj Fly is a really Strong project with a lot of great tracks like 'Still the motto' (prod by cooking soul), 'supreme' feat Joey badass or 'Locomotives' and many more...
Always weird when someone says "hey artist.. who is doing something i cant... you no longer create YOUR art the way IIII want you to... so now you wacc" lol Especially when its an "other" saying it

If Joey doesn't drop his next album soon, it's officially a wrap for him. It's been 5 year since his last album. He's not Kendrick or cole. Waiting that long, it better be a perfect album but the single so far isn't great
Yes yes
He's better than Cole to some including myself so there's that.. he put out singles EPs and the Collab project with Flatbush zombies and the underachievers so he hasn't been completely off the radar you're just sleepin
@Brandon Elias I think the new stuff is solid it's jus music to rock and vibe to, tho I didn't like the revenge as much, beast coast is a very solid project imo they jus went for that modern sound and killed it.. if they stuck to that 1999 boom bap shit ik y'all would be bitching for something new or say they fell off..
Joey's new album _2000_ drops on Friday - and I can't wait!
Expecting a return to form.
@@dabs.47 😅😅😭😭😭🤣😂
Another Hype Beast video. Y'all some damn energy vampires at this point. PRO ERA FOREVER
Let's face it, Pro Era and Joey Bad died when Steez died. He was literally carrrying them from the background.
Earl sweatshirt is probably the most known rapper in it these days but Mavi is also dope.
exacctlyy. pow p did the industry network thing too
Exactly Chuck has been killing it
@@ngang1957 industry network thing what is that ?
The nostalgia gives goosebumps
imprinted in my mind is the underground 2010s
How has hip hop fallen off so badly
I used to bump those projects by CJ and Nyck heavy!! Good times
love the video! im gonna watch the others fosho 🔥
nice work !💯
Only getting started! Let's goo!!!
Your channel underrated asf
I think Joey could make a comeback anytime. The culture would support it.
This aged pretty well, his album 2000 was great
I think cj fly's thee way eye see it was one of the best projects that came out the earlier days when pro Era was popping. I think he's the most underrated member in the group that's still active now.
Just listened to 2000 and it was MAGNIFICENT! And I’m not even a Joey badass fan, but now I am lol
KING CAPITAL STEEZ
Chuck is constantly making beats and dropping projects They all got different paths and things going for themselves at the root of it all it’s still 47
ill always have love for Nyck Caution,…. 1999 will always be a true throwbacks
Yuh! Cool video!!!
My guy said summer knights was trash I don’t think you even really touched the surface on pro era
Glad I ran into this this video search nostalgic. I listen to them til this day, rest east, capital Steez, great video.
10:34 he did release the light pack in 2020 but that was only 3 songs
Check out the dope beats I make on my channel
Pro era needs to just come back together and drop a tape
i personally liked the light pack joey did
It’s not bad. Hurts to think we probably not getting another good album
Being in the 6th grade-7th grade listening to these guys especially Steez, I was just in ah cause I used to think these guys were like gods of rapping😂😂😂 Joey shouldn’t have been the only booming right now though..
Don't nobody sleep on chuck strangers, his new shit go crazy
47 Shift. Pro Era Baaaaby, the come up is just brewing up.
Bro I just miss their Cyphers and the best thing ever came out before each member going solo was the Beast Coast Album in collab with The Underachievers and Flatbush Zombies. Now everyone’s going solo with no collab in sight for a sign of hope. We need this experience once more.
The documentary was good, I hope the beast coast will be revived.
Rip king capital
Joey’s lyrics and word play was like no other, you are trippin
Not better than steez tho
Nyck caution was one of the best imo
Capital Steez THE FOUNDATION🐐
Joeybadass and cj fly are the founders you sure about that?
Yeah he dk
The PE cypher pt 1 and 2 together is still my favorite. Dirty Sanchez is fire, a la sole was fire, swank master raw was fire, shit even Kirk Knight was fire in that cypher.
Yo said CJ Fly wasn’t amazing? Ain’t no way😭 he’s one of the best out of Proera
This guys not a fan
PRO ERA was Dope!!! They needed a better Strategic plan in order for every artist under the roster to be equally successful, like the Juice Crew/ Flava Unit/ or even a lot of the extended members of the WU Tang Clan (Killa Beez)
They supposed to be where grliseda at today
@@darionjackson2599 I AGREE 100%!!!!! If everybody’s camaraderie was at the same accord, it would’ve been a whole different story
@@maximuskeyes5914 bc they believe in the same music and they style of hip hop wasn’t for that generation doing that time but they all had different opportunities outside of music they went for it Griselda was more hungry for it and took it
Louaista bro Do one of these for Mick Jenkins..
JOEY BADASS SACRIFICED CAPITAL STEEZ FOR FAME
Kirk Knight one of the best producers in the industry (prod. A$AP Ferg, Lil Wayne, Juice WRLD, etc) & NYCk Caution can hang with the best lyricists too
Nyck raw with his lyrics. The underdog.
When Steez died, the whole collective died.
Obviously Joey Badass is still doing his thing but on the low Nyck Caution has put out some amazing slept on projects too.
Dessy Hinds debut album is dropping this year. Spoke to him directly and have an unofficial copy of the album sent directly from him
Joey played a side character on Mr. Robot and he actually did pretty well. That shows amazing, close to Breaking Bad IMO.
Rest in peace Capital Steez
Omg yes I remember this era I miss it! This was when I was in high school good times
Steez was the leader when he died I knew it was Over
'Thee Way Eye See It' by Cj Fly is a really Strong project with a lot of great tracks like 'Still the motto' (prod by cooking soul), 'supreme' feat Joey badass or 'Locomotives' and many more...
Man those were the times.
KING CAPITAL 47!
You missed there seccs tape. I think that was a collective album also. The first one if im not mistaken.
Ohh the emotional thoughts one
Where can I buy a shirt of them in Europe
Collective mixtape
@@kamaalabstract the site ?
Dude chill, Joey got an OSCAR
They’ll never make music like the 2011-2014 hip hop collective era. The music now still ✨🔥 tho.
Always weird when someone says "hey artist.. who is doing something i cant... you no longer create YOUR art the way IIII want you to... so now you wacc" lol
Especially when its an "other" saying it
Agreed, Joey has even said they don't make their music for people like that
Tnah Apex actually dropped a project in 2020 called Voice of reason it was pretty good tbh.
1999 was all i use to listen to back then
Good thing Pro Era and the whole beast coast group's music is aging well.
R.I.p Capital ❗️💯
THE FOUNDATION🐐
Bruh I was just thinking about pro era
It was capital steez that brought beast coast and Flatbush together creating the Pro Era movement
defentily subbing
The last pro era song I heard or even thought was worth a damn was king to a god featuring Joey Bada$$ and Dessy Hinds. Joey bad asses verse in that song reminded me of 1999.
Joey killin it on raising kannon
2000 by Joey is the best album from this year rip steez
