Actor & Rapper Joey BadA$$ reflects on his journey of Arts, NY roots, ImpactMENtorship & black love
Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott known by his stage name as Joey Badass, has created a brand for himself as a musician, actor and philanthropist hoping to inspire young people not just of similar backgrounds and culture but everyone. Ryan, Channing and Fred sit with Joey in admiration of what he's accomplished at a young age and encouraged by his philosophy and approach to everyday life through his work and commitment to give back to younger people. Being fans of his work, the guys really hone in on his success and how for being so young, he has such an old wise soul.
A native of Brooklyn, Joey talks about how from a young age the NY greats Biggie and Jay Z were two of the men who had a strong influence on him and how trying to be extensions of their approach really shaped the artist he wanted to be. Believing that music is one the most powerful forces in the world next to love, Joey has intentionally wrote lyrics and created a style of music that can try to change people's perspective the other way and not glorify the streets and growing up in a way that holds young people of color back rather, he encourages them to break down the barriers and soar to new levels.
Through all the music, shows, performances Joey has been a part of, one of his most proud accomplishments is creating the ImpactMENtorship program for men of all color to have an opportunity to shadow and receive guidance from people who started with similar goals and aspirations as himself. Joey makes it clear, he may not care about a lot of things but he cares about what's important and what's ultimately affecting our children and next generation is extremely important to him.
In an open discussion about life, trials and tribulations, Joey reveals how he first turned down acting roles not to fall into a certain niche of only playing roles that glorify the streets, he explains why he felt he was ready to embark on his acting journey and how he embraced the role of Unique in Power Book III: Raising Kanan which elevated him to be considered one of the more respected in the industry.
Starting his career at a young age, Joey has had many experiences and Being a father and empowering black love through his own relationship, he hopes to inspire other men and women of color to embrace the same. Dating actress, Serayah, Joey expands on their relationship in the public eye and how he's ok with it being out there to show his respect and appreciation for black love.
Ryan asks with all he's accomplished at such a young age, what's the end goal and Joey shares his hopes and how his biggest Pivot in life was about putting himself first and how that has changed his life forever in ways he can't even quantify with words. Premiere episodes of The Pivot release every Tuesday at 12pm ETeand special episodes release every Friday at 3:330pm est.

Something about Joey BadA$$ has always been so captivating to me, it might be by the way he articulates his thoughts into words and they come off so calm but yet so powerful. He is truly a very smart and humble man and I'm glad to have been a fan of his for a very long time. Thank you for bringing him on the platform The Pivot team! God Bless!

This was Fred and Joey (ahem, Unique’s) conversation. Felt like I was watching an uncle and nephew share wisdom. Always been a fan. Good to see two faves come together in the name of dropping gems!!
Yes Joey ❤Show black love at a very high frequency!
I have the upmost respect & admiration for Joey. He’s spreading the right message regarding the youths future. The subconscious mind is sensitive & we gotta feed it positively whether it be visually and auditorily.
Okayyy Fred!! Come through with the excellent questions 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Amazing show as always! Learned so much from Joey! What a beautiful spirit ✨💫
Those were some dope ass questions! These 3 gentlemen are starting to truly evolve journalistically…….
They definitely evolved they do a really great job
Fred didn’t mention it until farther in, maybe it’s more visible on the screen, but Joey radiates the Tupac energy.

Joey knows the secrets! The tip on ensuring you take care of yourself is such a key. I am in this space right now and its freeing.
Joey is just a dope young man. I love him acting he's killing it and putting out meaningful music that makes you think. Salute young brother keep being great 💯💯💪🏾
Never heard of this man, because it’s Pivot I know it will be worth my time. Not hip hop, rap listener to me it’s like grunge loud noise. However, this young man impressed me. I will follow him hope the best for him and look for his work on tv/film. Always excellent Pivot!!!
Pivot always drops a deep thought. This time Fred drops “Exposure leads to expansion”.
Hip-Hop is nowhere near the realm of Grunge. Not even close.
I understand people have their own taste in music (I dislike metal/country) but that was a terrible comparison
@@Jaykurosakii It really was.

This was such a good interview. But then again I find myself saying that with most Pivot interviews 😅
Joey reminds of Mos Def, there is a lot of similarity and influence there

The process is progress and success is just a destination moved by our goals - Ryan Clark
I love the questions that were asked and I enjoyed the way Joey answered them, the showcase and presentation of “Black love” that he wants to show with his girlfriend is interesting because they are other examples of “Black love” that have been presented and although it’s cute and looks good on the surface we don’t know these people and we don’t know their relationship. So that was interesting, I also appreciate his mentorship program it’s definitely needed in the community especially for men of colour, we need that represented in the highest form. Great episode.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Dope interview...LL Cool J or Method Man next
Yes 🙌 definitely Method Man
