Lmao the people in this comment section clearly don’t understand post partum or post natal depression. She never wanted to get rid of anyone, she was stressed and frustrated and not coping after having Connor.
I understand why she’s stressed out, but to get rid of the dog is a heartbreaking thought. And her husband is just oblivious to the stress she’s under.
Brayden Shambo I’m pretty sure he’s trying to understand the stress that his wife is under or wanting to understand to help her, and it’s not like it’s just her who is overwhelmed with stress, he is too even if it’s not as extreme as the stress she is under. They also got through this calmly in the end.
He might not have understood the long term progression that happened underneath the surface to get her from “cool with kids and dog” to “dog needs to get out”. I follow you there and get that. They may not have had those check ins to be on the same page. In the actual scene here itself I think he was emotionally “temperature gauging” the situation and trying to stay calm while he learned more about where she was and what she specifically needed.

She didn’t mean it. She was in a moment of anger after reaching her breaking point. She is exhausted and has been taking care of two kids while trying to stop Marley from destroying the house and hasn’t been getting enough sleep.
So many people in the comments that are in movie world and not reality. Imagine being a mother of two infant children with that dog in the house. Don’t get me wrong, Marley has a wonderful personality, but imagine being in her position and her main priority is keeping her children safe and happy.
Thank you! I don't get this stupid culture of putting animals over people. Even if the character in the movie changed her mind in the next scene, real people don't need to continue undergoing unimaginable stress for an animal. But of course parting with your pet will be heartbreaking, so be prepared for that.
There is no need to say something like that. We got to have a balanced way of looking at things. There are people who dislike animals and cannot stand others who put animals over other humans. That's your view and we respect it and you should also respect those who love animals intensely.
I did too! Can Angelina Ballerina exist in Marley and Me with Thomas and Bob too? Coleen loves watching the show on WPBT, WHYY (the two PBS stations), and Sprout, even after Marley's death (which is still sad) and has one of the merchandising from the show like some clothes, toys, and books!
Jennifer did an excellent job in this scene. She really sold the overwhelmed, frustrated, and exhausted parent. Caring for kids can be overwhelming. Add a hyperactive dog into the mix, and I can see why her character had the reaction she did.
Marley was just hyper not a bad dog . I had a cat named Milo that broke my blinds pretty much and was too hyper . I now have a 3 year old all black kitty and shes more calmer but loves the kitchen counter but loves to sleep and eat play too

Poor Marley. I feel bad for Jenny I can hear it in her voice that she's stressed she needs a break but she's going a little to far by blaming Marley for her stress. I know he knows better and I know he destroys things but he's just being an animal doing what animals do. But still. To get rid of him. Come on you know you don't really wanna do that. Everybody gets rid of their dogs it's just a dog! To me it's not just a dog, it's my family my life my everything to me. I would be heartbroken to give up my dog for something as simple as stress.

Being fair: In the book, Marley never knocked down the children unless he was extremely exuberant, not randomly. He was actually a gentle giant who knew the children were fragile and he shouldn't hurt them. What caused it was him tearing a couch cushion and John Grogan didn't see it in time for Jenny to hit the roof about it. I'm not saying what she did was right, it was just that it wasn't stressed that caused it, it was clear that Jenny was having severe depression after Connor and needed help to calm it down, Marley got the severe brunt of the depression.
The reason why they didn't show it was because of the obvious: Jenny in a fit of anger actually hit Marley, several times like a drum with her fists, it didn't hurt him physically, but it was enough to not be shown in the movie. It also made it clear it wasn't stress that drove her to say that, it was actually severe depression that she couldn't control. He said when she spoke to him like that, it was looking at a stranger with no emotion.
