NO FUJI for light travel photography? NOW WHAT?

- NO FUJI for very light travel photography? NOW WHAT? I was faced with this issue recently. I did not want to switch lenses! So that means either you stick with one lens or you use a zoom. My X-T5 with the 16-80 would not fit in my backpack so I opted for the Canon G15 which has a 28-140 f1.8-2.8 power zoom. For this very short trip to Portland, Oregon it worked out great for some fun fall color photography.
This camera was introduced in 2012 and the G16 was introduced a year later in 2013. So its shelf life was not very long. It's only 12 mp but I have made some great travel shots with it. I took it to Bermuda on our 35 wedding anniversary which produced an awesome book of the experience.
Do you want to travel lightweight but still take excellent photos? Look no further than the Canon Powershot G15 camera! This camera is perfect for travel because it's very compact and has a great set of features for taking pictures. So if you can find one used in good shape for a great price its worth it.

I had the most fun with a Canon Ixus, only 3.2 MP. Size of a pack of cigarettes and I always had it with me. Thinking of downsizing again. Love my fuji though.
Another example of it’s not about the gear. But, the guy behind the camera.
Thanks Bob! It’s a great little tool in the right situation.
The first shot of yours made me smile Kirk. Did you spot the Fuji sign in the background? That's a nice little camera. I've recently dug out my old Canon compact. Only 10mp, but it takes some lovely shots.
The Fuji sign was why I made the shot. It was to signify Fuji apple trees. I encourage everyone to pull out their old cameras and use them. It can be fun.
Looked like a beautiful trip to Oregon Kirk. For sure liked the color shot on the apple basket/shed shot. As you said, that pop of orange made color a must. Bamboo shot in black and white for sure since there was no compelling color to highlight. Last, I like how you didn't travel with your Fuji but you managed to take a photo of a sign that said "Fuji" (as in Fuji apples) - LOL!
Steve - Thanks so much. Agree with you on the color/B&W. Fun shooting with something different. I knew I had to make a shot of the Fuji Apple sign.
Kirk. Good day, thanks! that is pro ~ 📽
Thanks fun little project
Some great colorful shots Kirk! The buckets with shed I liked the color one best with orange. The second bamboo shot in color as well, I like all the shades of colors. BW for the pallets. You have a great eye for seeing interesting shots. I have an x-t3 16-80 for my travel but it's a bit heavy and larger than my old f200exr that I loved years ago. I wanted a smaller lighter travel camera so I bought the gr3 which is really great but no zoom. I miss the lightness and size of my x-t20 with 16-50 that I passed down to my wife... I kinda want it back :( lol. If fuji comes out with an x-t40 with ibis I will definately pick one up for travel and maybe get another cheap 16-50 polycarbonat lens.
I feel the same way as you color vs the B&W version. I no longer have my X-T30 which I loved with the 18-55 but I sold that as well. I only have my X-T3 and X-T5 both are to heavy with the 16-80 in the top of a small back pack.
I took a little Canon G7 throughout the Middle East back in 2007. Lots of great images from that tiny camera and even some interesting video. Some of the old tiny's had decent long zooms which could get cool candid portraits. The smartphones killed off the point and shoots for the most part. Although awkward to use the iPhones are getting better and better but without the soul of a dedicated camera. I'm concerned that the Fuji lenses seem to be getting bigger which is not why most people ditched DSLRs for Fuji.
A great option to have a small point and shoot for travel!
I like the B&W's. Show the textures. The color versions are good too.
Same here!
Kirk, I thought the color and B&W photos looked great out of your Canon. I sometimes like to put down my X-T3 and grab my point and shoot. I use the Panasonic Lumix LX 100 II. It's often overlooked but is actually a pretty nice camera. Fast F1.7 Leica designed lens, 28-75mm zoom, Micro 4/3 size sensor, a viewfinder and a real shutter speed dial on the camera and aperture dial on the lens. It's very similar to using the Fuji dial lay out. Now all I need are some good images.
Sounds like a solid choice! A very intriguing little camera.
Another great video. Thanks! Your ability to hunt out and create images is inspiring.
Many thanks after 50 years at it I should be able to find something.
Thanks Kirk - great to see you enjoying time with family. :) Blessings
It was a joy to visit my son and his girlfriend for even a short time! Thanks!
Kinda surprised that you don't have one of the X-E variants. I have an X-E2s and an X-E3 to supplement my X-T and X-Pro bodies for when weight and size is a consideration.
The advantage is the same capture (the X-E3 has same sensor and processor as my X-Pro2 and X-T2) and lens interchangeably.
I have redundant focal lengths with both the f/2 and f/1.4 so that I can grab the petite X-E with equally small lenses and produced images equal to the larger gear.
If I could have found an xe4 I would have it already. I would use it for in studio and out video plus travel but they are almost the same amount of money as a new one which you can’t find
I own a Ricoh GR3x because of this. A great small footprint camera. The other camera I own is the Fuji XT5. I bring the Ricoh with me when I need to travel light. The Ricoh has a few b&W simulations which are also great. It also a decent macro feature for your intimate forest scenes in this video. You owe to yourself to try it out. I ended up downsizing a lens to fund this direction.
Thanks I’ll have to take a look.
I second that, I have the XT5 and after a lot of research I’ve just purchased the Ricoh GRiii for lighter travels.
Orange trimmed containers I like the color shot, most of the wood stuff (poles & pallets) I thought the B&W worked great. The purple berries vertical shot caught my eye also. Get yourself a X-E4 it is small and uses all your Fuji glass, it is my go to small Fuji when packing less.
My wife and I feel the same way thanks for the feedback.
Wonderful the first shot with the poster FUJI in the background. Nostalgia?
Yes I made that shot for that reason. It was there for the Fuji apple trees in the orchard
We need and X80 right now!
Also a great little camera.
If my G15's had real, working, adult , useful viewfinders... I might never use anything else. It's hard to see the image in the LCD, in the bright sunlight...
Greg I stuck my Leica 28 viewfinder on it and thought better of it after I got the much less expensive Ricoh one. It takes the place of two viewfinders on my Leica’s.
Great video. Sometimes I'll grab my small Canon Powershot S100 and head out on the street. Great little camera but has no viewfinder which I prefer. It is loaded with features and fun to use.
Sadly true missing the viewfinder.
What camera is being used to make this video? I started with two X-E1 s and still use them occasionally. Even then the XT5 is not that large. All are fine cameras😊.
I was using my osmo pocket 2 for video. By mistake I turned off selfie mode which made focus manual and I did not notice it until now. The XT5 is nice and small but a little to big for my small bag pack.
"Looks just like a regular cultivator, EH!" Are you a Canadian? 🤣🤣😉😉
Haha - Nope no Canadian in me must have been a slip up of some kind.
Nothing wrong with this "slip up". On the contrary. 😉😉
Crazy timing. I shoot Fuji and Nikon, but for the last couple of weeks I have been shooting my Canon G10. Infact, I am waiting the delivery of the "new to me" Canon G1X mk II off Ebay. Curious to see how Lightroom's new denoise will help these smaller cameras.
I had a G1 first version and did not like it. But it got better with the Mk2. I love my little G15 does so much for something so small.
The Canon G5X with its 1" sensor is a nice ultra compact camera.
Yes that is a great little camera!
The best camera is the one you have with you…. Right? 😊. Hey we’re not in Cape Ann anymore Toto
Haha yup that’s right on both fronts.
