Great video thanks. Thought you were talking about me on a morning walkabout in your comments . There's always that challenge "to get a better shot next time" . I enjoy that aspect of the hobby. My photos only have to look good to me. I don't recall if it was Ansel or Bresson who said that his aim was to take 10 good keepers a year. A tough goal, but a fun challenge.

Getting 10 keepers a year can be a challenge. Finding new places to photograph can also be a challenge.

Great video again, love to see the process even when not happy with the result. It’s real, and more interesting in a way. I just looked at my Leica battery that I pulled out to charge and realized I’ve been in a funk myself with my photography, maybe I should pick up a 90 or a 135mm. I do love a telephoto wide shot.

Yes it is real. Lately I’ve been in a rut. It really is a B&W time of year except for the seasonal color it’s all about light and shadow. I’m struggling to find ideas for a video that get me excited.

I came to Fujifilm after decades of using Leica M cameras and I wanted to replicate my most used focal lengths, which includes the 90mm. If you are a Fuji user, you can get to the 90mm angle of view with the 60mm f/2.4 macro. It is smaller and lighter that the 56mm, not to mention much less expensive. You give up some selective focus potential, but gain close focusing capability.
I have an old Leica book on lens practice, and one of the exercises they made the students do was to for a period of time, shoot every picture with a 90mm lens. This forces you to see what is important and to exclude the superfluous. I do this often after using wide angles for a lot of shooting. Changing you angle of view can wake up your eyes.

Thanks for the tip on the 60 macro. That lens has been on my list for a time now. Back when I was a photo prof I would do this with my class for a week and they had a tough time with it but it was fun just the same.

I had an amazing year of hobby street photography with my 16-55mm crop lens. Until...
Having switched to a 33mm (50mm equivalent) for winter (it has better f-stop), I've hit a rut! Oh boy do I find it hard to use. Although it doesn't help that suddenly all my subjects are running around in cold weather clothing, rushing from shop to shop before winter.
I suspect it's more of a time of year thing, as I've never practiced enough in bad/gloomy weather. I must not blame the lens because, as a piece of kit and an idea of a cool focal distance, I love the 50mm equivalent.
Location and walking distance is key for me because, really, the photos I love most are true 'photo journalism' type ones where there's really something nice or engaging happening in the pictures. I live in London, England, so you'd think I'd be spoilt for choice of subjects (well, I probably am). But sometimes I wish there was a bit more industry near me.

Mike try looking for interesting light and shadow this time of year and wait for people to walk through for an interesting composition. The 50 can be hard for this but if you work at it that 50 will become one of your most used lenses. For me I still have to battle with myself to do that.

Great video, Kirk. The toughest time is the winter. Getting out in the cold where everything seems so dull. I'll have to try this idea with my lenses though.

Yes winter can be a real mess photographically but it can also be fun - if you don’t mind the cold.

Excellent journey, like you I normally grab for 33mm on the Fuji XT5 so
it was interesting to see the full frame 90 for a change.

I usually go for my 35 equivalent the 23 and now that I have the 23 1.4 it’s very hard to go with something else.

The 90mm focal length isn't the best for this kind of photography. You did what you could. The 90mm f/2 would make a great portrait lens or for closer sports and action at a 135mm full frame equivalent.

    • @KirkWilliamsonphotography
      @KirkWilliamsonphotography  7 месяцев назад +1

The 90 ff equivalent was perfect for me to break out of a funk. The 135 ff is too long in my opinion.

I have imposter syndrome. I think all my images suck, even though others say they are good.
