35 GM.. my favorite lens for walkabout in the city like this.. I will always have a 85 or 70-200 in the bag too in case I need that extra reach. But sometimes I just end up using the 35 only.
Prague still remains Architecture is a safe bet. Of course this city is a space of creation. If in addition there is light, we can only create emotion. Congratulations for this atmosphere.
I've never been to Prague, but you and Dan made it look like such a fun place to explore and hangout in. Loved all the variety of candid shots and video. Super impressed that you are shooting on film and processing your own images. I haven't shot on film in a few decades. Great video as always Julia.
If you ever have the chance to visit, I highly recommend it! Prague is so beautiful. And yeah I used to send my film to a local lab, but I love the editing process of photography so I decided to give scanning a go first, then eventually decided to just develop it myself too haha. I really enjoy the process!
beautiful city and beautiful video, love the details and all the photos you've taken and shared with us. I extremely love the film photos, i gotta buy another roll of film now that i think about it
I absolutely love this series. The both of you are so adorable and fun. Thanks for sharing your travels and videos with us! As usual, the photos and video look great! ✌🏾
I actually went to Europe this summer. I went to Switzerland, Italy and France for about 45 days. My favorite photogenic city was Venice. I loved it a lot more than I expected too. It was just spectacularly photogenic. I was struggling with what camera equipment to carry especially since I was traveling within Europe by train and wanted to be as light as possible. I landed up taking an A7R III with a 35mm 1.4 GM and Sigma 85 mm 1.4. In addition I took an A7R IV with a 12-24 2.8 GM on it for landscape. I actually landed up using my A7R III with the 35mm 1.4 GM for 95% of my photography. This combination worked really well, even in low light on the streets of Europe or canals of Venice. If I had to do it again, I would carry only the A7R III (or a Sony A1) with a 35mm 1.4 GM and the Tamron 35-150 2-2.8 for moments when I need additional reach. What did you carry and how did it work for you?
i traveled many cities with my Sigma 30 1.4 (APSC) so 45mm. I shot like 98% with it. but I often found myself it being just a bit too tight. so 35 or 40 (FF equivalent) would have been great. the rest I tiim with the 18-105 F4 at the tele end. looking what I can replace that long end with. 700-200 is too heavy. thinking Sigma 90 2.8 maybe, but would want a bit more reach. so maybe 35 + 70-200 would be a great combi for me. mayve throw in a cheap and light 24 like a Samyang 24 1.8
I spent a week in Prague in June I shot around 700 pictures such a photographic city with excellent mass transit and interesting things to photograph. I used my Sigma 18-250 lens for most of my photography
Great job Julia thanks for sharing .. for me If there one lens i can have while traveling it’s definitely the 24-70mm range .. I used the 24-70mm GM II and it did the job for portraits streets landscapes, and it’s incredibly sharp! unless you need fast aperture and don’t mind taking 2 primes .. it’s the jack of all trades!
Thank you! I am yet to travel with a zoom lens as my main lens for the trip haha I might have to try it eventually! I was also thinking with the 24-70 or the Tamron 35-150
Glad to hear you got to check out Prague, I heard it is good too from those who travelled there and some made decision to even move there! Thank you for sharing the video :3
I was there in April. Such a beautiful city. Nice to relive it again. And yeah you definitely gotta go out at like 5a to get a good shot of Charles Bridge.
Oh man, you even need to wake up at sunrise for Charles Bridge in April? I thought maybe it was just so busy because it was the middle of summer for us! But it was definitely worth it, not only is it empty but you have great light to work with too :)
Loved your tour. Your infectious sunny personality really enhances. There’s one selfie of the two of you towards the end that is really wonderful. I’m now a subscriber. Also use Sony
Gosh I miss being over there. Prague was about an hour from where I lived in Germany. On the border of Czech and Germany is a town called Chodovar, the restaurant Ve Skale serves amazing food. It's built into a cave. Your video has me reminiscing a little. ❤❤
Hey Julia.. Its reallyy amazing photos... And almost videos very helpful for us.. Thankuuu soo much.. For explaining about lenses you are using🥰🥰all the best...🌹🌹God Bless 🙏🙏😍😍
Loved this so much! Prague is such a beautiful city and you captured it perfectly. It made giggle when you were like, "aww, people" because that I say that all the time when shooting. Thanks for sharing. 😍
Great adventure - good balance of candid and casual images. I’ve had similar success with the 85 focal length in the city for urban landscapes. Decided to go with a 135mm and 50mm to get more separation and add in either the standard lens at 28, or ultra-wide at 14 to capture the space. Really enjoyed this, looking forward to more.
I was in Prague at the end of June 22, great place with just too many great places to photograph. loved getting a look around again with your video. Though I know how difficult it was to get any street with no people.
Julia...Can you recommend just one lens for Sony A6100...I want to shoot my daughter and Fiance in Ireland and Florence...Just for fun. And also B Roll video. Thanks joev.
Amazing!!! 🥵 You should come to Nicaragua in central America. For sure you are going to enjoy here. Lot of nature, lot of old cities, lakes, volcanoes and beaches 🌊
Great video Julia, I’m married to a Czech so Prague is like a second home to me. Watching your video makes me want to go there again. You should try to visit this time of year if you get chance. Great atmosphere with the Xmas markets and amazing Xmas lights etc. nothing like sitting outside a restaurant with Mulled wine and a provided blanket :) how did you like FotoŠkoda? I love that shop :)
Thank you! Yess I would absolutely love to see Prague covered in snow, I think I will visit again in winter :) FotoŠkoda was great, I spent heaps of time looking at all the vintage cameras.
It's a lot quicker, easier and more affordable to just hire a car out there to live in and to get you about in rather than use a hotel, hostel or Air BnB etc...That way you have the means to get around and explore the whole of the Czech Republic in one holiday, and not just Prague. I once hired a car in Zagreb, Croatia and in one 2 week holiday I visited seven countries in all, most of which I had never been to before...They were: Zagreb (Croatia), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Triest (Italy), Vienna (Austria), Bratislava (Slovakia), Budapest (Hungary), Belgrade (Serbia) and then back to Zagreb. If I had had one more week I could have visited every single East European country in my hire car...You just can't do that when your tied to fixed point like a hotel.
Hi, can you spend an episode explaining your settings. I noticed later in the day, you would raise your ISO higher. You always keep your f-stop wide open, f1.x. Thanks! ... Sorry, got it! Just saw your "How to Shoot in Manual Mode for Beginners + Examples". Got the answer! THANKS!
