I understand what you mean. Europe is currently a paradise for early music. Almost every country and every city has their own early music-ensemble(s). And this particular recording was absolutely beautiful.
This guy is marvellous! With this simple piece he gave me goosebumps, completely showed the beauty of the instrument and succeeded in transporting me in the baroque era and Versailles! Bravo!
Mesmerizing...❤ such an amazing and gifted young man! Made me fall in love with the harpsichord all over again! This piece is so hauntingly beautiful! It takes my mind on such a lovely journey! Come to America! ❤
A few people have commented here that this is a marvellous interpretation. I disagree and invite everyone to check out Scott Ross's version pf this piece. Ross is not a showoff and brings out the true intentions of Couperin in my opinion.
He plays everything too fast with strange rubato that does not fit the composers intention I think. Just the way a show off would do it. Too bad cause this piece is sublime and Jean does not open that mysterious door to let us in! Sorry to be the critical voice here but someone needs to give an honest opinion. Cheers
The “weird rubato” is, what most of us believe to be historically accurate. The music fluctuates based of off mood, casted by harmonic and rhythmic patterns. Imagine you’re watching or reading a horror story, and your heart is racing, but then there’s a conclusion, then the next chapter is that of more suspense. It’s how it is in life, really, and making music overly metrical is the exact opposite of a realistic expectation for a moving performance! I personally don’t believe Jean is a show off. I have met him, and attended one of his concerts, and he seemed quite humble.
@@fluffkitten4339 Well your "horror show" example is a good one. This is a horror interpetation. I am not talking about Jean's personality but his playing syle when I mention show off. Cheers
I believe this is how many french composers intended for their music to be played. He is performing using notes inegales where notes are performed with unequal durations different to how they are written. This idea is described by Couperin in his the art of playing the harpsichord where he says something along the lines of, we write music different to how we what it to played. (Cant remeber the exact quote)
@@PORIO171 Thanks, this is not inegales but an exaggerated form of rubato that Couperin would think was gross and unmusical. And I believe we would have to bring back the dead to really know their intentions. Easy to assume what ever you like but to my musical taste he is a showoff. It does not evoke a deeper understanding of the music but forms an opaque artificial layer which makes understanding the musiical line impossible. Cheers
@@marcussfebruary9104 Yes, the performance is fantastic but the *recording* has entirely too much reverb, the sound blends together into a muddy mess. the nuance is all but gone
such a genius interprets, such a sound record.....wow....
Love this music. I need more of this music
This guy makes me want to live in Europe, so I could hear him play live!
Boston Early Music Festival ha had him in a couple times...

Quelle merveilleuse interprétation, étincelant ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Rythme parfait. Immense BRAVO 👏👏👏👏🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶❤️

Do you work for Warner Brothers sir?
Perfect. As always.
So passionate. I really love it.

Music...the best way to get high...
You're so right. The world needs more ♬music.
Amazing how harpsichord technique has been changed by musicological research.
Wonderful! Wish I knew he was coming in time.
Absolutamente conmovedor
...Bravo...
Excellente interprétation!!!
❤
C'est tres beau,
Merci beaucoup.❤
Wonderful
Wonderful!
Magnifique !
The sound is horrible. Listen to the guitar version from Raphaël Feuillatre. Its another sound dimension...
I like how he begins and ends on the upper manual

❤️😘😘😘
Is the instrument the Collesse 1748 harpsichord?
❤
I noticed he plays a lot of rondeaux. Probably so people assume he composed those pieces. Borderline dishonest if you ask me. (joking!)
Bravissimo! Meglio non si sarebbero potute eseguire
WAY too much reverb and ends up being a clanging mess. to my ears. I'm criticizing the recording, NOT the player.
Exactly. Absolutely agree with you. Listen to the guitar version from Raphaël Feuillatre. Its much more differentiated and clearer in the sounds!
Beautiful ! … one thing to notice about this recording … too much reverb effect … play this in a small room and there’s magic
Tanta roba
Ufff
Even Cziffra played it less romantically.
Legend has it that when he's not touring, he dyes his hair black, wears an "Indiana Jones" style costume and hosts "Ancient Aliens".
There are so many fabulous players at present without Rondeau’s affectations or nonsense.

RUBATO*
Aaaaarrrggghhh... 🙉🙉🙉🙉 Too much klang klang klang klang!!!
What a dopey comment
😭????????? This performance is almost perfection.

Well, if you don't like harpsichord, I don't now… maybe don't listen to harpsichord? 😄
