What endless imagination and flexibility in the playing here. And none of it pasted on the music as if searching for personal "originality"...all of it born in the notes Scarlatti left us. This is brilliant interpretation, constantly new, constantly searching, constantly spontaneous. His touch is always sensitive to the instrument. We KNOW Scarlatti was a great improvisor and the freedom here reminds us of that. How can there be a doubt he expected flexibility in the playing of his music? Someone questioned his rubato saying...this was NOT Couperin...I think Rondeau understands what that person doesn't...and listening to him will allow us to enter into Scarlatti's brilliance in a way I can not find in anyone else's playing. Thank you Jean Rondeau!
Why would it be pasted on? He has to play it doesn’t he then.
@@srothbardt I dont understand your comment.
Jean Rondeau ~
I love that he groups the sonatas by complimentary key. He's making the harpsichord cool again, as it should be.
Magnificent. Someone mentioned the "flexibility" in his playing; I could not agree more, in rythym, perhaps also the ornamentation, all coming gloriously together with impeccable taste. A feast for the senses.
He is so amazing. I suppose that it comes with playing a harpsichord so much, but he has the lightest touch of any pianist I've ever watched. It's as if he relies on nothing more than the forces of gravity upon his fingers to strike the keys.
Good point, as that's precisely what Harpsichord technique is all about, in apposition to piano's where the whole weight of arms and shoulders is necessary.
He is NOT a pianist. He studied harpsichord only.
Not everyone is a slave to the piano!
Have you heard him play the lautenwerk-harpsichord?
Excellent, plus my compliments to the sound engineer. Very rich sound!
Golden hands for golden music. Fantastic rendition.
He's really got the heart and soul essence of it! Absolutely magnificent.
Scott Ross' "grandson"! Outstanding musician!
The more I listen to this, the more I love it.
Always a jaw- dropping revelation to listen to this performer.
Bravo. Wonderful playing. Great pieces. Most Scarlatti is still unknown since he wrote about 555 of these.
As not at all an expert on Scarlatti I can just enjoy these wonderful interpretations and perhaps improvisations (?). I imagine this is the right thing, right on spot. Funny, I have always listened to Scarlatti played on piano, and here comes a playing on harpsichord, the instrument Scalatti composed for. It needs a little change in ones brain, but the result is splendid. About the rubatos, I like them. Thoughts from another old boomer.
brilliant, brilliant player
I hope he has a long life because imagine what he will be capable of when he's 60... or 80.
True Musician.
Very beautifull clavecin player. He dares to take time wich makes the sound very peacefull
Unique Jean Rondeau...
I just finished listening to a recording of 1977 by G Verlet before hearing this recording and I was so enthralled by her command of execution-ornamentation, subtle rubato, etc. And the instrument she was playing was magnificent. OMG the power and joy! The composer was DuPhly. I had never heard Verlet before but knew I had really discovered someone! I had no idea she was a teacher of Rondeau, but it really makes sense when you consider the similar qualities he brings to his artistry. I’m very thankful for both of these artists!
Toată admirația pentru execuția distinsului dn.Jean Rondeau 😂👏🌹
MERCI !!!
amazing! so beautiful. Thank you!

Gorgeous.
Parabéns! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Magnifique ! ... Bravo !
This is a real treat. He makes every piece of music more interesting.
Sos Hermoso ❤🙏❤️🙏🥰
You magic man (I mean both of you).
It is beautiful to meet like that
Quel bonheur !
The Best 🎵 🎶🎵🙏🎶🎵🎶
#2: “Contemplating defeat” #3 “Chillin Station”
Lovely.
💛💛

@Total Baroque : thanks for the upload, but i'm wondering : what is the meaning of "19/32" in the title, while there are only 16 pieces in this concert ?... sorry dude to be so inquisitive but when i don't understand something it's putting me off to sleep and it's now 4:35am in France ... ;°)
Magic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see Jean playing the harpsichord as if it were a piano. Initially I doubted this approach, as the harpsichord is a pluck-stringed instrument and so non-responsive to intonation by keyboard tempered touch. Guess I'm wrong here. Bravo!
He was trained on the harpsichord. Afaik he was never a wannabee pianist.

At first I was delighted to see that Jean Rondeau's Scarlatti concert (July 2018) had finally been put online in its entirety. But, what a poor quality image!
Very sorry.
The same concert was posted a while ago by France Musique, only per piece of music (France Musique video's Jean Rondeau). Recommended! Both picture and sound are a good quality.
Because if there is one who masters the harpsichord, it is Jean Rondeau!!

C'est gnan gnan !
No aparece Albioni.
Not since Landowska❤
Always the same - but always beautiful
Amazing as always. Pity for the total mess of the last sonata, he got caught in Scarlatti's traps.
Allah... pero en écoutant jean rondeau!
What an hilarious ending, just walking away like that after being butchered by Scarlatti (no offence, it was a great concert nevertheless).
I adore his. beautifull and peacefull playing
Did he have a train to catch? Or was he fed up trying to hit the right high notes with his flying LH...? Brilliant playing, of course. An antidote to the sea of blandness we get from Scarlatti on the modern piano...
He’s taking over from the late (I think) great Scott Ross.
Preferisco Scott Ross.
I'm having a "Look how they massacred my boy!" moment listening to his wildly fragmented K132. I can respect the creativity of the interpretation, but seeing its stately rhythms cut up like a plate of sushi stings worse than wasabi inadvertently going down my windpipe.
Rubato. Rubato everywhere. Why? Why? It's Scarlatti, not Couperin...
Boomer alert
@@tmnvanderberg ignorant alert
Old fingering and/or articulation simply asks for Rubato playing the harpsichord.
It's very VERY symbiothic
like he is playing here.
Rubato e... Restituito!
L' Italia è maestra in queste!
The playing is very fine but I cannot bear the circus. I have to listen and not watch.
he's trying to be "ze crazy genius" fuckin irritating, but nice never the less
@@simoncarrier9910It seems he need a lot to impress others. I guess his mother didn't gave him all the car he needed in his childhood and now he feels empty .
BTW, it's "care" not "car"...
Don't watch then, just listen, it's as simple as that.
What nonsense! To read these remarks you'd think it was Glenn Gould on crystal meth. A few facial expressions, so what? That's what you'll see on camera close-ups. At least we also get to see his marvellous manual techinque.
I would respect him more if he were not wearing a "man bun." Scarlatti is brilliant no matter who plays him.
You should see how SCARLATTI wore HIS hair!
A little bit classicistic and boring... a French decaf version
