I meet Lady Ashcombe who, after the sudden and unexpected death of her husband, became a young American matriarch of an ancient British monument. She knows the castle inside out, and its history begins in 1066, when the first residence was recorded. Over the centuries, Sudeley Castle has seen constructions, additions, demolitions and restorations. Today, Sudeley wears its scars gracefully, with beautiful exposed ruins a distinctive feature of the overall building.
Lady Ashcombe has made her own mark on the history of this remarkable house, by focusing on interior refurbishments. When she took on management of the estate, she was determined to preserve it and get it right. Looking around, it's obvious that she is a master of balancing the needs for modern comfortable accommodation with the reverence a building like this demands.

Lady Ascombe did a brilliant job with the primitive stone walls. Thank you Julie, for showing us this beautiful piece of History
Simply amazing & gorgeous. It is now on my bucket list😍👍 I can't wait!
Now that, my friends, is a CASTLE! I would love to visit it someday!
We went and visited Sudeley Castle when I lived in the UK. The gardens are absolutely spectacular.
Oh my goodness! A real Victorian Castle! I could look at every spot, in every room. It really is on my bucket list. I’m in Tennessee.
Golly I hope there is more to see, I room doesn't mean too much when there is an entire castle to see. Please do a follow up, this is such an interesting building.😊
The full episode is on the Smithsonian channel!

Hi Julie,
What a truly fascinating woman Lady Ashcombe is !
Do you think you'll ever develop a hybrid English/American accent as her's?
You've already a slightly English way of speaking & interacting w others.
Keep up all the great work Julie,
You're Amazing!

After watching an hour and a half about Hinchingbrooke, I was shocked by a few minutes here. But still well done. Just want more.
The owner is beautiful. Great Job with the living room quarters.
We agree!
Hoping to see more.
Beautiful place that I had the fortune to visit.
Same. That was short and sweet.
You definitely got it right love. Better than some english people would have. Well done. The stone walls look great, but I hope you kept the victorian panelling to use on or for something else. It's part of the history. Would love to vist there and Mapperton House. Love from Galicia x
beautiful ruins , wish you could show more.
Great video I enjoyed it 👍😀
I can't wait until this airs in America 😊
Please sir (s) I want more.
In 1554, Queen Mary I gifted Sudeley Castle to John Brydges, the 1st Duke of Chandos. It passed on to his ancestors (my family) for many hundreds of years. :)
Great work!
She is stunningly beautiful.
Marvelous taste
Wow!
"Did you ever feel nervous about running the castle? I mean, they filmed Rebecca at Mapperton, so . . . "
I believe Lady Elizabeth Ashcombe is from Kentucky.
The Wodehouse in me can not be restrained, sometimes. Two American women at Pseudly Castle.

WHY is the American Aristocrat uploading 5 minute videos? How does one see the entire video? This is very disturbing!!!!!!!!
Look at other youtube videos. They're running out of money. Her and her husband may have done some restoration when they moved in decades go and thats what she is showing here... one room.
In other videos the Castle roof is damaged in several areas from water.
The family has no choice but to open the Castle to public events and tours to keep this money pit from going into total ruin. It needs to be ran as a business to survive.
