  • I have been asked quite a few times how to register a classic motorbike without a logbook or any history. What documents to fill in, how the process with the DVLA works and the potential pitfalls

Hiya I’ve got a bsa scrambler I motor-crossed a long time ago. Always wanted it on the road. It doesn’t run a lot of original parts like number boards and tank. Would this be a problem with inspections or is it just the frame and engine numbers there after and that it looks like a motorcycle. Or would this through a spanner in the works trying to date and identify the bike
    Thanks

Very useful guide. Would you confirm where you can get the registration number using the Vin from, as I have not been able to find it.

Hi Bazza. Just to clarify shouldn't box 27 be left empty and box 25 be used instead?
    Rgds.

Vin has to have previously been registered in UK, not sure when or what happened but the VIN had to have been registered after around 1980, so if its an bike/frame thats been in a shed/garage it may not appear on the DVLA database
