Very nice display👏 I was a little surprised to see it had a centreline tank on but guess it needed the extra fuel to transit from Lincolnshire and would be empty by the time it reached Duxford having used it first during takeoff. Our display kites (Buccaneers, Jaguars and Tornados were always sent up clean to lessen the stress on the airframes during high g turns. Times have changed and this plane was nice to watch 😀
++Dave Pepper++ Would the short flight from Coningsby to Duxford really use that much fuel? Hardly fifty miles in a straight line, the a/c would barely have time to get into third gear! No, the centreline tank would be for the fuel used during the display.
While not exactly the most long-range fighter ever, it's nowhere near as bad as the Lightning was & shouldn't need external fuel for that short a trip, even if they planned to use reheat as much as possible during the display.
