    Very nice display👏 I was a little surprised to see it had a centreline tank on but guess it needed the extra fuel to transit from Lincolnshire and would be empty by the time it reached Duxford having used it first during takeoff. Our display kites (Buccaneers, Jaguars and Tornados were always sent up clean to lessen the stress on the airframes during high g turns. Times have changed and this plane was nice to watch 😀

    • @JohnSmith-pd1fz
      @JohnSmith-pd1fz 3 года назад +1

      ++Dave Pepper++ Would the short flight from Coningsby to Duxford really use that much fuel? Hardly fifty miles in a straight line, the a/c would barely have time to get into third gear! No, the centreline tank would be for the fuel used during the display.

    • @sergarlantyrell7847
      @sergarlantyrell7847 3 года назад

      While not exactly the most long-range fighter ever, it's nowhere near as bad as the Lightning was & shouldn't need external fuel for that short a trip, even if they planned to use reheat as much as possible during the display.

      @@rogerkay8603 Indeed the RAF and the various European air forces have learned this already with mock air fights against the US Navy Super Hornets.

      It was designed as an air superiority fighter for the RAF not a naval fighter and besides our carriers do not have cats and traps so would not be able to operate these jets or any conventional naval jets off of them. Hence why the RAF/FAA operate the F35B off our carriers. The carriers were origi designed to operate conventional naval fighters but cats and traps were removed from design due to political pressure on cost grounds.

      @@sgkingly8392 Exactly, & on that basis so much better than no display. I remember RIAT maybe 2016 (Sunday) & the F-22 Raptor was aligned on the runway, USAF display commentator giving it the hyperbolic talk up including "all weather capabilities"....and then the bird simply taxied off the runway. Cloudbase hadn't lifted, they only bring the 'A' display, & consequently the display was cancelled. Palpable disappointment!

      Alternatively, he could have done the full display, half of which we wouldn't have seen because it would have been in and above the cloud cover!
