My time in Málaga has been great but I really have had the opportunity to learn and implement a lot of Spanish. And I have been extremely privileged to have a very good and professional young instructor named, Noemi. And she's a master's degree, she's highly trained in what she does.
She was able to meet me where I am and meet other students at the same time where they are, and pull us all in and she would tell you as I'm about to tell you every single week usually Wednesday night Thursday I'd hit a wall she could just see it obviously she's dealt with this before. If you're learning language and it's just part of the process, you hit these barriers and she was able to draw me back in you with using games and various exercises, instructions, sometimes her homework for me was simply can go home and relax and don't study, your brain needs a rest and so I'm thoroughly satisfied and thrilled with my experience here I'm going home with six weeks of Spanish under my belt.
I'm not conversational yet don't expect that you're going to be conversational in six weeks but I have kick-started a process that I don't intend to quit.
Another one of my professors that I thoroughly enjoyed is this young guy, Lou.
He's actually a lawyer by training previously then he went and got a masters in teaching Spanish to non-native speakers and he teaches here at AIL Malaga and I had the opportunity or the privilege really to be in class with him in the evenings, for just very practical let's talk, let's learn to speak, let's listen and that kind of thing and he was able to draw me in I'm a basketball coach.
I have a lot of background in terms of community relations and things like that and he wanted to know about me and then he used those interests and drew me in so what watching basketball videos and I'm learning how to explain it in real time in Spanish using Spanish verbs all sorts of things to throughout, to shoot you know, to cut and and basically he's teaching me how to coach in Spanish and then you know doing all sorts of things like that, we did recipes. I had to explain a recipe in real time. We picked the recipe off RUclips and then I had to write out the verbs ahead of time so I knew what I was having to do but as the video was progressing I had to explain the video.
I was the audio for the video and I could remember once Lou saying “Mas rapido, mas rapido” you know faster can faster and believe it or not it works like you start thinking a little and communicating in Spanish and I'm telling you you're capable of doing this.
