Roboticist and Bren Professor of Mechanical and Civil Engineering Aaron Ames leads the field in building bipedal robots. Ames is fascinated by the evident simplicity of walking, but driven to understand the mathematical complexities of the motion so he can equip his robots and prosthetics hardware with state-of-the-art engineering.

Engineering is the application of science to real world problems. The power of Caltech has always been the resources of absolutely brilliant scientists who were patient and willing to explain things to engineers until the engineers could put those things practice (even an engineering freshman who had not even learned what he didn't know he didn't know).
