    M28U Vs G70A Vs G50A Vs G7 Monitors
    *This video shows Local Dimming On issues or Feature... Is it a Glitch or an F07 defect that enables A 450+Nits in brightness power in SDR mode in a sustained screen mode on the Gigabyte M28U.
    *Disabling Local Dimming brings the brightness back down to normal levels vs the G70A and no Blotchness of the picture on panning scenes. Then the G70A is a better overall buy.

    I had a 32" Samsung Qled 4k 60hz with quantum dot VA panel. Awesome monitor with a beautiful image! Decided to upgrade to a 2.1 hdmi for the 4k 120hz capability and when with the Odyssey 70A and let me tell you guys,i was mind blown! Even thou it is an ips panel the image quality is awesome! Although, you'll need to make some adjustments to the colors to match the Qled, once you match it, you won't go back! The 4k 120hz is simply a must! I was lucky to get the Odyssey 70A on a deal on blackfriday for $650 out of $800!!!😬😬😬 Highly recommend it!!!💪💪🔥🔥🔥

    Hi, I am currently stuck on buying the Samsung - Odyssey G7 28" or the Gigabyte M28U. The main reason I am stuck is because I read that the M28U has 24Gbps compared to 40Gbps for the G7. Does this play a big part for the HDR aspect? Also the M28U is $500 compared to the G7 being $690. So I am also looking at that, if the 24gbps doesn't play a big part.

  • @vidfreak56
    @vidfreak56 2 года назад

    There is no reason SDR full nit brightness should wear the monitor earlier. Unless you know specifics about the backlight technology (ie its cheaper), you can't really say. I think what they do is just take a 400 nit backlight and force it down to 300 nits, then implement a crappy HDR 400 because the standards are so lax that they can get away with it. It allows them to keep prices higher than would otherwise be. I wish all manufacturers would unlock full nit brightness like they did.

    • @DisplayReality
      @DisplayReality  2 года назад

      The specifications are not sdr 500 typical. So since these transitions are slow... and brightnes increase something is up. Monitors do have a lifespan just like tvs. 30,000 to 60,000hrs or so. But that's not even at full blast. Also backlights dim over time after 10,000hrs or so little by little. So the more power the faster it will degrade. Well I can say from my tvs lcd type panel after 5yrs it has dimmed. But it will vary by type if person. I switch things out every 2-3yrs as my main so I should be safe but ppl who so every 5yrs may see something maybe. But what's weird is say the BenQ ex3210u which is hdr 600 but as techtesters says it can only get up to 298nits in sdr. That is crazy...

    • @vidfreak56
      @vidfreak56 2 года назад

      @@DisplayReality Yeah i didnt see that it only worked with local dimming enabled. I thought you could lower the brightness down. Theoretically someone could run the panel in HDR mode and experience (given the right scene) full sustained brightness. But even in SDR 500 nits is very high. Yes it will degrade them faster, but the monitor still has years of use even with that degredation. Were not talking about anything that matters over the course of monitor lifetime (unless you use it 24 hours a day). But it does sound like the local dimming is bugged (maybe its just your monitor?). I was hoping theyd have unleashed the max brightness . I would have bought this monitor again in a heartbeat if they did that.

    • @vidfreak56
      @vidfreak56 2 года назад

      Its also possible that there is some contrast issues there that is making it appear brighter than it is. You'd have to actually test the brightness physically with a luminance meter. Typically the max brightness will never go beyond what its rated for. Even with this "bug" you're still not getting 100% brightness all the time either.

    So does the m28u still retain peak sdr brightness without local dimming enabled? Couldnt you just disable local dimming to "fix" the muddy issue? Did you try to turn the brightness down in SDR mode to see if that fixes the "blotchyness"?

    • @DisplayReality
      @DisplayReality  2 года назад

      I think i did say in description. But yes if I disable Local dimming blotches goes away but brightness does also. It goes back to lower than G70A levels on brightness. So I can't say its better with it off. I like it on with that brightness increase. Just showing the differences and it may happen to many who have this monitor and update. I have reset it and kept it off for 2wks and it's still shows this so this is a Firmware change or firmware glitch. Not a regular reset your monitor to fix glitch.

    • @vidfreak56
      @vidfreak56 2 года назад +1

      @@DisplayReality Interesting. I gave RTINGS a heads up and they are gonna test it aswell. I certainly would be interested in this monitor again if the brightness does stick around, but if its only on when the local dimming is enabled, then clearly its probably a bug of some kind. What happens if you try to lower the brightness settings with local dimming on? Does that help the blotchiness at all?

      @-Parasite- 2 года назад +1

      Try these settings when you play on a console, but you can give them a try anyways:
      Brightness: 100
      Contrast: between 55 and 62
      Black Equalizer: 10 or 11
      Color saturation: 16
      sharpness: 10
      Local Dimming: On
      Gamma: 2.2
      Color Temperature: standard
      Override settings: Off
      RGB range: automatic
      dynamic contrast: 0

    Got the g70a a week ago to use with PS5 and Xbox. I find it too dark. Went out and bought an MSI Mpg321qrf-qd. No hdmi 2.1 but prefer it to the g70a. In hindsight, wish I'd waited for the new Samsung neo g8 later this year.

      I hope your super happy with the msi. Some may find the g70a dark while so e find it great. It's all preference for sure. Get what makes your eyes happy as that is the best judge on deciding what's best for you... The Neo G8 will be super bright 650nits typical on sdr according to some specs.

    I can't update my m28u because of the shitty osd sidekick app . It doesn't recognise the monitor

      Make sure it's not already running. The bottom right Taskbar. This happened to me also.. if it is running and it says not found etc. Uninstall then reset and re install. I did this also

    So it's the same panel yet samsung costs 300 dollars more? Can someone explain why this is ?

    • @DisplayReality
      @DisplayReality  2 года назад

      The hdmi 2.1ports on m28u is 24gbps and the G70A is 40gbps. But both are very similar. Right now on sales it's closer but msrp was 300 when released.

    • @vivalavega01
      @vivalavega01 2 года назад +1

      @@DisplayReality does the 40gbps matter if playing on PS5? Never really understood this concept

    • @DisplayReality
      @DisplayReality  2 года назад +1

      The ps5 gbps is capped at 32gbps. While xbox and PC are not affected the ps5s bandwidth is limited. It would be more limited on the m28u but honestly I can't see a difference while gaming. My Aorus FV43U and M28U both are 24gbps. Both looks great... even xbox looks great. So while technically the m28u is limiting. I don't think it's an issue especially at the 4k120hz at that great price.

      @@DisplayReality appreciate the explanation. I was contemplating returning the m28u and snatch up the Samsung g70a for cheaper than the m28u (sale). Would you recommend i do this or just stick with the m28u ?

    • @DisplayReality

      @@vivalavega01 I would keep the m28u. I mean it's great. I don't know which firmware your on but my f07 500nits is great. Both are amazing but I would not get a G70A as you may experience a dip in brightness.
