  • How to level a cool season lawn or top dress a lawn with SAND my grass is a cool season blend of Kentucky Bluegrass and perennial rye grass with some fescue mixed in that is important when getting ready to level the lawn
    Landscape rake I used: amzn.to/30yQGXN
    Leveling the lawn today with the help of Jeremy from the Greener Lawn / @thegreenerlawn
    Adding the sand and leveling it out will help take out all the bumps and low spots I have that make the reel mower scalp and then cut high as the mower goes through the low areas. You have to be careful as to not put too much out and smother the grass not allowing it to grow back. This video shows the process that I did to level for the first time.
    Sunjoe dethatcher/ scarifier: amzn.to/2I2q0rH
    The greenworks dethatcher: amzn.to/2WyWnXV
    Step 1: Mow the lawn LOW mowed at 5/8" with @connorward's Toro Greensmaster 1000
    Step 2: Break out the Greenworks Dethatcher (man that thing BLOWS) and pull out as much thatch as possible
    Step 3: Clean up the grass and thatch with the John Deere D110 lawn tractor
    Step 4 (didn't hit the record button apparently): I put down an application 28-0-0 to push growth
    Step 5: Put down the sand and start leveling Using the lawn leveling rake, I just used a landscape rake.
    Hope this video helps anyone trying to tackle this project! Feel free to comment with any questions and I will answer them as best I can!

      Brett's grasscapades I’m debating on whether I need a lawn leveling rake or just a wide rake like yours.

    • @Brettsgrasscapades
      @Brettsgrasscapades  5 лет назад +2

      I think it really depends on how much and how often you plan on leveling. The rake did well and was much cheaper than buying the actual leveling rake, however I don't know if it works AS well. I am planning on making my own leveling rake at some point this year, I'll document how that goes.

    Could I level with sand on tall fescue?

    • @Brettsgrasscapades
      @Brettsgrasscapades  5 лет назад

      I don't see any reason why you couldn't. I don't know anyone who has but it should be the same process. I would mow it short prior to doing it and make sure to only level when the grass is really growing good.

      Damn you have been cutting your lawn that low and you have never leveled it. If I cut that low half my yard would be scalped and the other half would look good because I have to many bumps. Would love do level it just dont think I would want to send that much money doing that. If you dont mind how much did you pay for the cubic yard?

    • @Brettsgrasscapades
      @Brettsgrasscapades  6 лет назад

      @@dougblacksill4626 yeah the builder who was the previous homeowner did a pretty good job leveling it before they put the sod in. The sand I used was about 80 buck a yard which is not cheap but I should have to use way less next time and once it's done it will be worth it in my mind!

      @Brettsgrasscapades  6 лет назад

      My front yard is roughly 2500 SF and it took about 4 yards. It took a lot more than I thought it would have but I guess it was worse than I thought when it comes to dips and what not.

      Hey man,
      Sorry it took a while to reply I just saw this.
      After mowing my grass is at 1-1/2” and my sod is about 3/4” taller than my concrete. I think I will have to take all of my grass sod off and level to the concrete and seed. Project to do in a year or so.
      Question, I’ve looked and called a few places and nobody seems to want to give a cost for the toro reel mower? Was it new?

      @@jessecolin6046 sorry I didn't realize I hadn't replied. The Toro was used when I purchased it, new they are 8-10k or more so the used market is the only real way it makes buying one feasible I think. That being said I paid about 400 for mine.
