    Sorry, there are none, the best I can do is direct you to the article on woodworkweb which has all the sizes (I think) have a look and if there is anything missing, let me know. I didn't actually use a plan, just drew it up on the white board, made a couple of test pieces and worked from that.

    Hi Phil, I worked at putting your comments to work, thanks again.
    Yes, I too hate to see good trees cut into firewood and as for using lumber from old furniture, Yup, I do that too. Re-use is a great way to get nice wood for little or no cost. Yes the bits have a special twist to them and of course they have that slender prong at the bottom, I'm sure you can buy jut the bits somewhere but have not looked.
    Thanks again for your comments

    Thanks for your comment, it is a good way of cross cutting, but I have to confess I did not invent it, actually it is something I was taught many, many years ago and I still use it a lot because it is a good way to cut wood.
    Thanks again ...

    I have not had the opportunity to use this wood, and honestly, don't know much about it. I understand it is also called Satin Walnut, which I have heard of but again not used. I understand it is quite widely used in the furniture industry, so it must be a pretty useful tree. We would like to see some pics of your finished project from this wood, it would be interesting to see it. Thanks for posting ...

    Thats so smart using a stop block to measure the board. Gives the board room after the cut to pick up . I hate making a cut and having the rear of the blade rub the cut board because its tight between the blade and the guide rail.

    Nice item. Changing the proportions could give you a variety of spin-offs, e.g. magazine rack.
    I think the item's too small to make it a knock-down; therefore, I'd have used dowels in lieu of pocket hole joinery and I would have finished the parts before final glue up.

    I've been looking for a nice looking umbrella stand. This project looks like the exact design I have been looking for. Is there any more information available on the dimensions of the pieces? Great video. I like how you show how to make one part and then go off camera to do the rest.

    I too love pocket hole joinery and always look for projects to use the Kreg jig. Thank you for emphasizing the safe use of the table saw, especially the stop block on the fence.

    I just found the comment where you referred to the site where the dimensions are. Next time I'll read all the comments before I comment.

    Hey Colin, good proportions and nice project. People need to get over their objection to pocket hole joinery, it's useful and has history before Craig Sommerfeld. I was thinking umbrella stands always had a metal pan in the bottom to catch dribbles from wet umbrellas?

    • @knecht105
      @knecht105  10 лет назад

      Hi Michael, yes the proportions worked out nicely, I actually used that fibonacci gauge to help me, it seems to work, and yup, I agree with you on the pocket joinery, it does have a place. Now, as for the metal pan in the bottom, I honestly did not know that, but it makes sense. I will have to see if I can find something to fit that .... thanks for posting. I always learn something from these :)
