This is the only decent video I could find that uses the denman brush on actual wavy hair! All the others say wavy hair tutorial when really their hair is curly
When I first started using the denman brush, I felt like it was awkward too, but I started taking bigger sections and just going through fast. That’s when I got better definition.
Yes!!! When she started talking about it feeling awkward and not working immediately made me trust the tutorial and decide to watch all of it! When you're learning a technique, it's so helpful to see other people navigate the awkwardness of new movements!
omg, the difference between the first time vs the end of the video is wild! i was struggling to stick to brush styling, but maybe i shouldnt give up just yet!
Melinda, if you "saturate" your hair, with water from a good spray bottle, before you pass the denman brush through then you get better curl clumping. I'll try the bigger sections and see if it helps. :)
Hey Hey! I am not even at the end of the video, I'll def watch the rest, but I have a tip! I have 2a-2c hair and I've figured out that if you brush bigger sections of your hair with the Denman brush, and then don't fully scrunch it but kinda hold it in your hand and bounce it around in your hand it won't look nearly as wonky!!! I also put curl cream (rake it through my hair) and gel, and I put a good palm sized amount in the section that I'm brushing, brush it, and kinda plop it in my hand and bounce it around before I scrunch it and then add MORE gel. I hope this makes sense! (I don't mean plop with a towel I mean kinda hold it in my hand)
I'm a 2b also, and the Denman works for me if I pull towards the ceiling and put tension on each section, or if I style upside down. However, much, MUCH better than the Denman is the Behairful brush. I have not touched the Denman since I got the new brush. The Behairful smooths my frizz, adds a lot of volume at the crown, and I get actual ringlets!
I’ve never had success with the denman. However...the Behairful brush is amazing!! It creates a lot of tension to create more of a ribbon effect. I think it’s like $35 or something but seriously worth every penny. Can’t style without it anymore! Also 2a hair...I highly recommend it!
A tip! (if it works for you) For the first time this week I tried "refreshing" my hair. I had washed it and done the curly method thing etc. and got mostly-loose waves before going to bed. Then I heard of refreshing--I used to just let my hair go flat after that first day. So on day 2, by making them damp and just scrunching again.... my hair got SO WAVY and even curly (3a). I like post-wash day curls even better now. It must be that there isn't too much water weighing them down. I think if I used the brush too, it might have worked even better.
The curl enhancing smoothie and the shea moisture moose friz free together definitely made my hair moisturized and curly thank u so much for the recommendation. There other products used to weigh down my hair but these...girllllllll lol
I love watching your videos. You're so sweet and real and you're one of the only RUclipsrs I've found with hair similar to my own so keep doing what you're doing!
Oh my, you have no IDEA how much this video helped me! I JUST learned a bunch of things that will help with my (apparently impossible) hair! Thank you!! ❤
I love the denman brush!! I originally was using it vertically (like you did), but realized that for some reason horizontally gives me better results (brush in horizontal sections, from under and giving the little twist at the end and my hair clumps waaay better like that)
Instead of holding the brush upright like she does in the video - hold it parallel to the ground, placed underneath the section of the hair you are working on.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! The only people I see using the Denman are curlies but your hair is just like mine! I've been having issues with the frizz and stringiness as my hair grows longer. I think I get how to use it right FINALLY so I'm going to give it another go.
Quickly tried this today with my Denman and some styling products, and although I don't have as much wave as you, it really enhanced everything! Super excited to keep using this method! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!!! My stylist gave me the homework of researching my hair type and figuring out how to use my natural wave so I don’t look like a puffball. This is so helpful! 💕
I learned that if you start from your root(once your hair is brushed out) and twist your wrist slightly, like you would curling hair w a straightener, and brushing to the ends has helped me most.
i have the same type of hair as you and it worked wonders for my clumps!! it really helps train your hair to form bigger clumps when it comes out stringy a lot (like you said same with me). i was dying at the beginning screaming use bigger sections until you figured it out too haha
Okayyy I will! I’ve been debating it a few days, but I have to now! I got a similar style brush with a grip handle that I tried during the twist around the Handle method with, but I couldn’t do it properly without ripping my hair. It was just the one I had found at the store. To Amazon!!

@@melindab But that means so much because you don't have to do the work but you still do and it's very helpful. Parroting what Brenda said, I love you channel! Keep being you...💗
A tangle teezer or wet brush will do the same thing. You just need to have the tension with the twist of the brush at the end of your hair, then shake, scrunch.... same results, just fyi.
I just ordered my first Denman brush. I just found out I have 2a hair, and was always frustrated my my frizzy mess, so flat ironed it. Now I want to try to see if I can get real curls. Do you brush your hair throughout the day, or ?? Also, how do you refresh it? Thanks!! Your hair is beautiful, btw.
I have 2b/c with some 3a curls and the Denman brush has been the hardest technique to learn. Lately I take a section and brush down vertically rather than horizontal. I twist the brush while brushing the section and it twists into a ringlet that stays that way when dry. When I brush out perpendicular from my head my hair looks straight and dries barely wavy. I keep trying though:) Your results looked good.
I love this! Thanks for showing us your first time, and then following up with it a couple days later. I, too, have 2a wavy hair (not super curly) but I'd love more curl definition. So, yay for a cool brush technique. Just ordered the Denman. :)
