- "Land of Hope and Glory" is a British patriotic song, with music by Edward Elgar and lyrics by A. C. Benson, written in 1901.
The music to which the words of the refrain "Land of Hope and Glory", are set is the "trio" theme from Edward Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1. The words were fitted to the melody on the suggestion of King Edward VII who told Elgar he thought the melody would make a great song. When Elgar was requested to write a work for the King's coronation, he worked the suggestion into his Coronation Ode, for which he used words provided by the poet and essayist A. C. Benson. The last section of the Ode uses the march's melody.
In the United States, Canada and the Philippines, the instrumental version of this song is traditionally associated with high school and university graduation ceremonies.

The song was written far before Queen Elizabeth’s time but oddly it suits her.

I know some of the older monarchs would've been far more reluctant to guide the dominions towards full self autonomy, and certainly wouldn't wish to see the Raj or Africa go. We could've ended up far worse off if her overseeing of the empire were an aggressive attempt to remain in full control.

This is truly is the Land of Hope and Glory! God bless the mother of the free. As a British Indian Citizen I am so proud of this Country. I'm tearing just thinking about how glorious our Britian is.
I remember speaking to a Sri Lankan Tamil a little while ago about Ceylon and the British Empire as well as the civil war that followed. One comment he made that stuck was the fact that unlike the French and German empires which broke down the countries they ruled and left very little behind, the British Empire spent a lot of time modernising and connecting the land, and once independence was gained in 1948, still provided support and trade as part of the Commonwealth. Yes we caused a lot of travesty and damage, but we also left behind a lot that kept these countries going to build their own economies.
It's an interesting way to look at things. Certainly wasn't a comment I expected to hear.

I love how we have had very few Queens but the majority of them have managed to feature in this video, it just goes to show that our people do very well with Queens :)
People will usually lean more on a Queen then a king, a King doesn’t bring the affection and love as a Queen does. It’s very simple, doesn’t change the fact that our kings did well and were loved in their ways as well.
@@arthurwellesley1stdukeofwe890 I suppose that's a reasonable theory/opinion. They definitely cover Elizabeth I and Victoria a lot in UK education and in the general UK zeitgeist. In terms of Kings it's just really Henry VIII and other Kings just get a small mention due to the events that surround them, gunpowder plot, magna carta, Norman invasion etc.
Anything else isn't really covered by the time you can drop history (which for me was 15)
@@blazednlovinit Well, in my experience stories about kings are usually wars and the Empire itself. When they talk Queens it’s specific events and just the kinda personal stuff you don’t get told about their male counter-parts.

@@ffls2706 history is one of the "humanities" as we called them at school. when you're in the last 2 years of school you get to pick what you do and don't do in terms of subjects, but certain ones are mandatory (maths, English, science/the sciences, and a second language)

And You are saved through faith in his blood alone it is a free GIFT of God and not through your works lest any man should boast!
So remember that faith means you believe and trust it and the moment you trust the blood Gospel you are saved and if you want to tell that too God it should come from the Heart!
