They might be hiding something, or it might just be something that needs to be done and they didn't know.
You always have to add some money as maintenance cost on top of that, unless it had a VERY recent check-up certificate. (if they even do that in your area).
But even then, the used option is often way cheaper.
If it's not, then I wouldn't buy it.
It pisses me off to no end when people demand artists for free drawings. That stick figure drawing bit was too good-
Right? I'm no artist myself, but I'd have just delivered them a blank background and said, "Thanks so much; I saved so much time & money on this piece." And if my boy wanna be all like "WTF IS THIS GARBAGE?" I'd respond with the epic, "Don't get mad at me, man. You get what you paid for: you paid nothing, so you get nothing. Simple math. I'm was a marketing consultant with extensive graphic design experience (note designer, NOT ARTIST...crops to those who can literally turn nothing into art!!!). I could not believe how many times people would come to me and expect work done for free, or exposure, or "donation". Churches were the worse. I am a Christian and do believe in tithing (and not that 10 percent nonsense, but what your heart says you can do, financial or labor) but once it got around you were a designer or artist, so many "associate" pastors and assistants came out of the woodworks wanting this project or that project. If you said yes to all, it would be a 50 hour a week job. I actually suggested to one church I was attending that they hire a designer in-house part time and the answer I got was "that is so generous of you to SPONSOR a designer." Left the church that afternoon and never went back (BTW, that church has just finished building a new $15 million sanctuary SMH)
My artist friends are awesome people. I love paying for them to do art for me and having gorgeous pieces I could never do. The price is always worth it. It's awful how entitled some adults are smh. Little punk ass brats
Most people don't even consider how much work goes into making art, let alone the prep that comes beforehand (training, supplies, and the the P's, practice, practice, and more practice).
I legit have been threatened with a fabricated pedo incident BY THE WIFE OF THE LOCAL POLICE CHEIF. I ended up getting off thanks to the Lt. but I was terrified for weeks. The monster even went as far as purposefully totaling my car. The reason behind all this: IM AUTISTIC, ASKED TO BE PAID FOR MY JOB OF FIXING HER LITTLE SEMEN DEMONS PC which was a total cost of $800, and then when I told her I needed to be paid or I’d have to call the police she threatened them executed that threat. I’m 19. I hope people like these beggars and her burn

We had this one company hiring software engineers.
I didn't apply for it as I m choosing designing as my career option but my friend applied for it and got selected, well almost selected.
In final questioning with HR, the audacity of these people to ask HIM TO PAY FOR THE COMPANY while this company was a STARTUP was WAY BEYOND MY IMAGINATION.
+They were being rude and VERY ARROGANT in their tone while asking for it.
Then they POSTED UPDATES on hiring:
PAY US or don't apply and WASTE OUT TIME.
LOL.
He (The RUDE F-ing cunt HR HR) and his company got bashed coz obv it was SCAM company (Even if it wasn't, coz it's not proved we will still consider it as scam for obv reasons LOL.) by our college placement cell authorities and was reported to other colleges about them too.

This is why I tell anyone I can never take a free job as an upcoming artist. Too many people have exploited artists, or creatives in general, for the myth of "the real money will come from the exposure." It won't, it'll only bring you more choosing beggars.

I was kidding.
I use yarn in my craft. What I make turns out cute and people often want one. I don't take commissions because it gives me anxiety. Before I show people my items (because they ask to see them) I tell them I don't take commissions and why.
Never fails people always ask for something. I'll offer them something I already have done and offer it to them for free. They still get greedy and ask if "Can make it in a different color" or whatever. When I say no, they get butt hurt. "But you're making them anyways".
Look, I do what I want, you can have it For Free or you can have nothing at all.
That exposure will only lead to more people asking for art and offering exposure. When would they ever start to actually get paid from this exposure?
Exposure is nice, but it doesn't pay rent. Plus, majority of the exposure goes to younger people who couldn't even afford to purchase any services, especially if they are on the other side of the world.
@@tabytastick I do commission work. I'm pretty straightforward. Price is negotiable. I will explain what others have paid me for my time and what the service I provide does. I say that if they can't afford that price, I'm willing to go lower to close the sale, but it sets expectations and value.

That post could of be written "I'm a creep who would prefer a woman to leer it, I don't do anything all day, I won't be looking for a job and I expect you to do everything for me for while I pay next to nothing for a high-end home. I also have three dogs which I will expect you to take care of." Somehow after rewatching that post and my rewrite both sound the same.

He threw fits all the time at being made to do "women's work" like cooking for himself (he only ever fried food), doing his own laundry (I had to teach him to use a washing machine) and having to vacuum the common spaces (he would drag gardening tools in and out of the house using our dining table as a workshop). I can't begin to imagine how he would of treated someone he could intimidate/overpower, he even had the audacity to ask me to keep paying my "share" of the rent after I moved out because we were such "good" friends... yeah, I tore through that idea like wet toilet paper with a chainsaw.
@Goat That dude sounds like a nightmare, but a lot of people are like that, he sounds like he needs a butler or maid not a roommate. The only guy who I have considered as a potential roommate is a guy who could burn water when cooking so he hires this sweet old lady in her seventies to batch cook his meals each week, and he's happy to pay because he knows that he would be a pain to live with otherwise. Since 2020's endless barrel of laughs hit he delivers her (and well most of his) groceries, and he gets Tupperware boxes of foods still, which is good, I fairly certain he would starve otherwise (he is dangerous in the kitchen, I once had to stop him from microwaving a can of soup after a night at the pub, he just pulled the lid off and plan to stick the can into the microwave to heat it up, he's that guy).

I just posted about this, I can't imagine paying 3 grand a month to rent a 2 bedroom flat/apartment/house. I have a 4 bedroom house with sleepout n on a full 1/4 acre section n for my mortgage, including monthly rates n insurances, costs me about $1600 per month!!!
Toronto is NOT CHEAP it's beyond expensive I live about an hour or so from there and people come to our town because of the cheaper prices here...rather than that city.
Honestly I thought most of these stories were fake and that there was no way people were actually like this. Then just 2 days ago I got a tumblr message about commissions, and they wanted me to lower the price. My commissions are literally $3.

Just to be the devil's advocate: while the numbers seem high, statistically speaking, only 0.44% of the planet's population have been diagnosed with the virus. Even if we presume that the actual number of undiagnosed cases is a magnitude higher, depending on where you live, it is still entirely possible to be constantly bombarded with statistics and news about the virus while you never get it, none of acquaintances get it, or possibly nobody in a hundred mile radius around you gets it.
When you look at it like that, it is not *entirely* unreasonable that someone would consider the virus nonexistent. They would be wrong, but they wouldn't necessarily have to be raving lunatics to think otherwise.

I work in a nursing home, and in the past year, I have seen more old folks with chronic illnesses die from not receiving medical care, because the hospitals were locked down to protect them in particular, than people dying from COVID (which wasn't hard, considering that number is zero). So many cancer and COPD patients died because it was apparently "safer" to keep them away from the hospital and potentially getting infected with a low-mortality-rate virus rather than to take them to the hospital to get diagnosed and treated in time.
Let's just say there is a reason why I'm disillusioned about this whole shebang.

@@DT-dc4br Nope, I'm a social worker in the institute, and I'm the one in *charge* of the statistics, or at least reporting them to the national database. That includes mortality statistics as well, and just to reiterate: ever since the whole virus craze hit, there has been a marked increase of people under our care dying from diagnosed but untreated chronic diseases, including cancer. Now I can only think of two things: either there is coincidentally a sudden spike in heart-disease and terminal malignant cancer among the people living in the institute, which just magically happens to coincide with the virus outbreak, or the fact that we have been heavily discouraged from taking them to the hospital unless it's an emergency led to otherwise preventable conditions not getting treated in time.
Now granted, this *is* a small sample size, and my own experience and interpretation is very much an anecdote, but that doesn't necessarily make my conjecture wrong, only currently unverified.

Fun fact: It's illegal for engineers to do any sort of engineering for someone for free or for an unreasonable price, if they do they will lose their license and thier insurance. Engineer's are basically CB proof.

Here in the UK, there us a voluntary dog walking/sitting thing, people sign up, pay a small fee (the fee is more is you're signing your dog up looking for a walker etc) you're fully insured with a vet number in case anything happens, and you get matched with pups in your area. I signed up before I got my pup as I never thought I'd get my own dog so it was great interacting and meeting different pups ad helping people who needed a hand - either they had a sudden health issue, work, or were just getting too elderly to regularly take their dog out - I still do it even after getting my Retriever, and I love it, I've met some great people as well as dogs that I formed an incredible bond with that I wouldn't trade for the world

I was literally gonna say that straight talk card doesn’t work with smartphones, they have ones that do, you just gotta pay attention. Also when you buy those cards there’s a fee between $2-$5 to activate it so tbh she might of paid $35 for it cause I have straight talk & there’s always a fee when you buy a physical card.

I dunno if this counts, but two neighbors in the apartment I live in were one of those people who would “Borrow” things instead of going and getting said items themselves. An elderly lady would ask for a light bulb and pay me thirty five cents, then twenty five cents.
If I’m right, then a light bulb would cost around $1.35 or $2.35 for one light bulb, and I’m getting stiffed two dollars for a light bulb that can be bought for $7 at a Rite Aid store.
She also asked to “borrow” my plunger for her sink problem one time. Never got that back, ever. I ended up getting a new one from my dad and stepmom as a Christmas gift after I explained what happened.

The only way my family afforded the houses we lived in were because we bought the first, and heavily renovated it and later sold it for the next house.

That kayak one, I've actually heard of people doing stuff like that. Like, they'll find something on sale locally for cheap or on clearance or something, then turn around and re-sell it online for a profit to someone outside the area. So the seller turns a profit and the buyer gets an item cheaper than what they'd pay nearby.
