Oh my gosh, I am shocked at the lack of compassion from the passengers who complained to JH about saving their lives! Hello, what happened to humanity?
What is wrong with people? Criticizing saving lives? Come on. The only thing I can think of those people simply are not thankful for the lives they have. I believe one day they will feel the negative energy of their comments. Karma is real. Thank you Don for enlightening us about this and many other pieces of news that you share.
We had a klepto fascist leader that we just got rid of. His sewage smell will linger in people's minds for a while though. Lets remember NONE OF THESE COUNTRIES need to let any cruise ships dock there. We are guests and as guests we have to follow established international maritime standards. The current maritime standard is All ships must come to the immediate aid of any distressed ship or boat. End of story.
@jadeh2699 MAYBE the airline didn’t charge extra for the extra suitcase (shrug). I routinely pack half the clothes I need & then do laundry once (soak in bathroom sink & hang to dry). It does save me $100 in extra luggage fees .
Wow. Whether a law or not, humanity stills exists. When I see ppl in these boats it makes me wonder how awful their situation was to flee in such unsafe conditions. Don. A washing machine? 😮🤷🏻♀️🤦♀️🫤😂
For the amount of room that thing took up in the luggage, they could have packed more clothes so there is need to do laundry. Surprised they didn’t pack a dryer too
It’s cheaper to do laundry than pay an extra $100 in airplane luggage fees for extra suitcase. I routinely pack half the clothes I need & then do laundry halfway thru my trip. Usually in the bathroom sink (soak, rinse, hang in shower) .
Hey, I've just decided that I'm bringing my BBQ grill & a few steaks on my next cruise! I'll set it up right on my balcony & I'll save money by not going to the specialty restaurants! 👍🥩
This world don’t have a shortage of stupid people. Increíble. Really a washing machine. Keep up the good work don. One of this day I would have the pleasure of meeting you on a Cruise.
What gets me is that they were upset at their treatment and wanted everyone to know about it. I hope they kept the washing machine. These people can’t read nor have common sense.
Some people just spout off thinking they are being cool or something. Thing is, those same people would change their minds REAL quick when it's THEM who are trying to escape bad and crooked politics which, if they got their way, would happen real damn quickly in America.
I’m a merchant marine Captain and it’s a felony if you don’t assist a vessel in distress. Regardless of the legal, you have a moral obligation. As for the washing machine people, maybe they were going to put a sign on their cabin door, Wash and Fold Service- 50% off. If you ban the stupid, cruise lines will go bankrupt.
I'm going on a cruise here in a few days, I'm going to try to save some money. I'm going to try to sneak some dehydrated water on board. Hopefully I don't get caught.
@deriahickson7435 Some cruiselines have a laundry room, just like hotels have them. 4-5 dollars per load. (My preference is just use the bathroom sink.) Soak 10-15 minutes. Rinse. Hang in shower to dry.
Hahahaha😂....A washing machine!!! Laughing my butt off!!! That is hilarious...Yeah, might as well proposition like the neighbors next door to male a few bucks!! Lol...Wow...yikes..🤣...
I don’t know about the model of the portable washing machine that the person tried to bring onboard but some of them are not electronic and don’t need to be plugged in. There are some that are small and foldable. I would use it to wash underwear or socks. I don’t think I would want to send my underwear out for laundry.
whoever brought the washing machine must be young and fit. heck i won't even buy a jar of spaghetti sauce if it looks like my grocery basket is already getting heavy.
Regarding that Maritime Law (1789) - I can't help thinking of the California, the ship that COULD have saved passengers when the Titanic was sinking. She was much closer than the Carpathia which showed up 4 hours later.
There are some “washing machines” that are basically just a collapsible silicone bucket. A low-power agitator stirs a few small items in soapy water, but I think you have to empty the washer and rinse the clothes yourself.
Yet ANOTHER Norwegian screw up story, of lack of planning causing passengers inconvenience. This story about Norwegian telling embarking passengers that they will be late to embark with the *reason* was known months if not a year or two ago. This story is just like the Norwegian cruise from South America to Antarctica a few months ago, where "After" the passengers embarked they were notified that the ship would *not* be going to the Antarctic as advertised and why passengers purchased this itinerary, because there was speed limits in effect because of whales and there wasn't enough time to fulfill all of the itinerary due to the speed limits so they decided to omit the selling feature of the itinerary, cruising to the Antarctic The problem was that those speed limits due to whales were in effect for the last 18+ months so Norwegian knew about these speed limits before the itinerary was designed and then sold to the customers. Norwegian has a loooooooooooong history of many such "Bait and Switch" or "False Advertising" planned tactics. Keep a list of such Norwegian stories and it won't take long for your paper to fill up. I know, we was told about a key port, Istanbul being skipped *after* we boarded the Norwegian ship and it turns out that Norwegian knew at least 5 months before that they couldn't go to Istanbul. Four days before we boarded the Getaway ship in Athens, we were at a tourist site where there was a tour bus with Norwegian passengers. We talked to those passengers and they told us that *after* they boarded, they were told that due to recent changes that they couldn't go to Istanbul. We hadn't been notified yet so we thought that our cruise would be able to go to Istanbul. Nope - not until *after* we boarded were we told that we were not going to Istanbul. A few days later we met up with a lady on our ship, who purchased her cruise ticket only a few days prior to boarding in Athens when we did, and the big draw for her to go on this cruise was to go to Istanbul. So Norwegian was advertising that Istanbul was on the itinerary until 3 days prior to boarding and selling tickets, yet they knew literally 5 months in advance that they would not be going to Istanbul AND they were already cancelling Istanbul as a port stop for the ship ahead of us, yet doing false advertising and selling last minute tickets for people who were expecting to be taken to Istanbul. Bottom line: The front line staff of Norwegian is nice, but the upper management is not to be trusted. Don't take a Norwegian cruise unless you have zero plans of being taken to where the listed itinerary states.
Of course you help the people! Love to hear about Carnival and other ships assisting people in distress at sea! Trying to bring on a portable Washing machine is ridiculous!
So what happens when you do this and put everyone on vacation in danger . What if it was planned and they all have guns ??????? Send another boat. Sorry but the world we live in is not the same .
I wonder how they planned to dry all those clothes. I don't find that my swimsuits dry very quickly when hung on the line in the bathroom. Imagine your load of laundry on that line. Crazy.
Even if you put everything they need to know in writing, there will always be people who 1) don't read it, or 2) read it, but think they can do whatever they please.
4:16pm St. Thomas Don, I have been following you for about 3 years on RUclips. It seems we are on the Enchanted Princess at the same time. Hopefully we can meet before the end of the cruise.😊
Don't those machines require lectricity & use hoses? They would probably blow a fuse & flood their cabin. Then they would blame Carnival & demand a full refund!!🤣🤣🤣
On my January Australia / New Zealand cruise, the boarding time was delayed until the afternoon. At least I was able to drop my bags off and ride buses around Sydney. My mistake was believing their revised boarding times and eating at Taco Bell. Almost immediately afterwards, somebody on the Facebook group posted that they had started boarding (a few hours before the time they gave). Fortunately, the bus was only two stops from the cruise terminal when I got it. Back when I did red eye flights, I routinely sat around airports, from around 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., when shuttle vans would start taking people to the seaport. It would be easier now, with wi-fi or smartphones.
I’d never bring a washing machine but it is possible that someone could think it handy to bring, to be able to stay in cabin and watch a film whist you wash a small load as you may only be travelling with a carry on. Of course we know that laundrette services (I’m British 😁🇬🇧) are available on Carnival ships but it’s possible that there are times when they are busy. That’s my thinking 🤷🏾♀️ but I would not consider bringing one.
Some people have no compassion or common sense. Luckily they are a small majority. I have more anger towards pier runners who think they are more important than the rest of the cruisers on board! Washing machine!!!??? Not all ships have a laundromat. There is the option of taking advantage of filling the laundry bag and letting the staff take of your stuff. I use the laundry option. My perks include 1 bag for 50% off but also bring the good old standby - Sunlight soap bar! Or laundry soap sheets!😂
Wow Don!!! I think I will bring my own bed and full-size refrigerator on my next cruise! Seriously?!?!? What are people thinking? I want to bring as little as possible!
Haha! You are NOT out to lunch! We watched a lady in Vancouver airport pull items from her suitcase to get it under the weight limit for no charge and she pulled out an iron!! As she walked away from check in, with her arms full of pulled items, she mumbled, "Now I have to go buy a bag for all this." Haha ! Just haha what people will try.
People should really think before they speak. If your saving a life or lives that needs to be a priority. Maybe we could bring a portable AC on our next cruise, heck throw a grill in too. Have a BBQ on the balcony. Lol 😂😂😂
Are you kidding me? Someone trying to bring a washing machine on a cruise, and resenting not saving lives??? Perhaps some passengers should have a mandatory IQ test before they board-actually, on the booking form before we , the other civilised passengers have to deal with the consequences of their idocy! Sorry
Hello Don Good information as usual, But I don't think anybody would guess that some knuckle head try to bring a portable washing machine on a ship and you are right just to save a few bucks very funny. Now for people being upset for ship rescuing 21 people in destress 1) its a maritime Law they are obligated to give assistance, 2) Thats the world we live in a lot of people out there that don't care about others and its just about them. thank you Don glad to see you are having a Fantastic cruise.
Can you bring your own detergent for the crew to use to wash your clothes...I know dumb question but flying to port to go on a 14+ day cruise and have allergies to soaps and detergent!! Not all carnival ships have self serve laundry!
A washing machine??! Why not also pack your vacuum cleaner, floor mop, and scrub brush. Then it will be just like you never left home, except more expensive and inconvenient.
Did anyone not watch Titanic? This is exactly the reason why we have Maritime Law. The Californian was asleep at the switch. Only a few miles from the Titanic and rendered no aid because they shut off their radio and crew went to bed. Instead the survivors of that terrible tragedy were at the mercy of the Carpathia coming full speed from 58 miles away. Digest that before you complain about “maritime law.”
Ok, don't laugh..but I was on Amazon looking for a small wash portable washing your clothes solution??🌊.. I booked a 11 day this December 1st through the 12th on ncl breakaway out of Miami coming up...dam, I might as well bring my own air conditioner unit!!! Hahahaha 😂😂😂
I didn’t even know they made portable washing machines! I did do several loads of laundry on my last Princess cruise because we packed light but normally I’m on vacation-laundry can wait until I get home!
I am going to bring up the C word yes Covid. Since Covid rules that are laws are only enforceable if the police force wants to enforce. Yes you heard me right police officers, firefighters border guards, and let’s even say cruise ships.. if they want to they choose the laws they want to enforce. I’m sure when you’re gonna respond to me and say lots of stuff but I’m stating facts where I live there have been news reports and press releases where the police have come out and said Yep this is the law but no, we’re not enforcing it because we don’t believe it So people are reporting this cruise ship should not have picked up the individuals , their mentality is it could be international boating laws that if somebody’s in distress, you help them, but for these individuals, you should’ve chose to leave them I hope it’s not, but it is like that in parts of Usa when I was in Canada Barhaven it wasn’t like that I hope it isn’t today Keep up the good work
Lovely to hear people want to have clean clothes but.... I do know of ones that are hand crank for camping and the size of oh those big head cover old fashioned portable ladies hair dryers but wow....this may make sense on a world cruise for your "delicates" lol but still.....your cabin storage is not endless...and hand washing those will suffice.
Don, we have one of those small washing machines at work and use it to wash towels and other things that we use there. They work incredibly well, and spin more water out of clothes than any full size machine. The one we have would fit in a mid-size suitcase. The other things you listed - iron, espresso machine, hot plate, etc. - these all have heating elements, and so are banned because of fire hazard. But these washing machines have no heating element. The only risk I can possibly see is if they hooked it up improperly and there was a leak, but really, there's not much chance of that at all. Now, am I saying that I would bring this on board? Nope. I think that's a little ridiculous - they could have brought another whole batch of clothes in that suitcase instead of the machine. But I don't see any safety or dangerous reason that it was banned. No risk of fire. Just takes up space in their room.
Those are easy to tip over and end up spilling the water and soap everywhere. And where were they going to dry? Hang the clothes on the balcony? Would I get one of those for my apartment? Sure. If I were going on a cruise? NO!
Wow! How much did that piece of luggage cost them to even get there? Baggage fees for air travel, tips to porters etc. I’m sure that if you add those up there wouldn’t be any savings. Well it seems they are cheap so may not have tipped the baggage handlers.
Next time I cruise I am bringing our microwave oven from the UK- it can have its own seat on the flight- as I like to cook my own meals to avoid norovirus!!!!!
Somehow I am not surprised by the portable washing machine. There are people who would avoid sharing the same washing machine with others, especially with undergarments and swim clothes.
Bring everything on the ship and thr kitchen sink 😂😂😂. What is up with people. And where are the humanity that people are uoset to render aid to those who need it. I am glad the float out is ahead of schedule because im on the inaugural of the Aqua so that is good news for me. Especially when so many inaugurals get pushed back.
I’ve seen these little washers. There is one that collapses down thin. I thought it was pretty neat, but for an RV or something. The cruise lines don’t limit your bags so bring what you want. Oh and all ships don’t have self serve washers.
Was that couple doing a longer trip and the cruise was just one thing they were doing? So they're still dumb but possibly using camp sites and stuff on another leg?
What, bring a washer and not a dryer? I handwashed a pair of jeans on a cruise and it took 3 days to dry. Imagine trying to dry a load of laundry. You would need a hundred magnetic hooks alone to hang everything.
Actually, Carnival is British-American, although their ships are under various flags.. Helping distressed people and vessels at sea is required by a treaty which the US signed and ratified after the Titanic disaster.
Maritime law! My foot! How about just plain humanitarian help?! Good grief!😢
Oh my gosh, I am shocked at the lack of compassion from the passengers who complained to JH about saving their lives!
Hello, what happened to humanity?
So glad that Carnival helped the people that were stranded. People that complained, should be ashamed of themselves.
What is wrong with people? Criticizing saving lives? Come on. The only thing I can think of those people simply are not thankful for the lives they have. I believe one day they will feel the negative energy of their comments. Karma is real. Thank you Don for enlightening us about this and many other pieces of news that you share.

What is wrong with people. So inhumane. These are people that needed help.
If youre bringing an oversized bag anyway, it should be no issue to bring enough clothes that you wouldn’t need to do laundry🙄🤦🏻♀️
Excellent point for sure.
@jadeh2699 MAYBE the airline didn’t charge extra for the extra suitcase (shrug). I routinely pack half the clothes I need & then do laundry once (soak in bathroom sink & hang to dry). It does save me $100 in extra luggage fees

Wow. Whether a law or not, humanity stills exists. When I see ppl in these boats it makes me wonder how awful their situation was to flee in such unsafe conditions. Don. A washing machine? 😮🤷🏻♀️🤦♀️🫤😂
How can people be so cruel?
They are RACIST!!!!!
Why would they need to bring a washing machine on-board? Have they not heard about the laundry facilities?
People never cease to amaze…..and not in a good way 😮
For the amount of room that thing took up in the luggage, they could have packed more clothes so there is need to do laundry. Surprised they didn’t pack a dryer too

@tobiebrave BUT I don’t bring any extra equipment or bottles like those customers tried to do.
You are correct about the portable laundry machine. You can put it in writing but they won't read it!
One of this day I would have the pleasure of meeting you on a

OMEEGEE just when you think you heard it all🤣🤣Crazy I would say😂🤪
What gets me is that they were upset at their treatment and wanted everyone to know about it. I hope they kept the washing machine. These people can’t read nor have common sense.
WOW...now I'm having second thoughts about bringing my pool table on our May cruise.
I wanted to bring my bicycle for the exercise deck. Guess that’s a No too
Some people just spout off thinking they are being cool or something. Thing is, those same people would change their minds REAL quick when it's THEM who are trying to escape bad and crooked politics which, if they got their way, would happen real damn quickly in America.

Did they think that room stewards wouldn't see it ? 🤔
Imagine what these folks might do on a cruise ship in an emergency...
Panic and each for themselves...
Do these haters really cruise?
I'm going on a cruise here in a few days, I'm going to try to save some money. I'm going to try to sneak some dehydrated water on board. Hopefully I don't get caught.
Dehydrated water???
😂😂😂😂😂
Hilarious!!!
People have lost it!!!! Absolutely crazy.
$4.25 for a load in the ship laundy. Can't believe they hauled it around to save that amount.
You are way off on that. You can't get even one item cleaned for that. In saying that, bringing in a washing machine???????seriously?
@@deriahickson7435 I used the laundry room on the Caribbean Princess 2 weeks ago. That was the price I paid for a full load wash and dry.
@deriahickson7435 Some cruiselines have a laundry room, just like hotels have them. 4-5 dollars per load. (My preference is just use the bathroom sink.)
Soak 10-15 minutes. Rinse. Hang in shower to dry.
😮 OMG!! WTF a washing machine..really!!!
Hahahaha😂....A washing machine!!! Laughing my butt off!!! That is hilarious...Yeah, might as well proposition like the neighbors next door to male a few bucks!! Lol...Wow...yikes..🤣...
My favorite thing is : you can't fix stupid!
I don’t know about the model of the portable washing machine that the person tried to bring onboard but some of them are not electronic and don’t need to be plugged in. There are some that are small and foldable. I would use it to wash underwear or socks. I don’t think I would want to send my underwear out for laundry.
I think some of the comments to John Heald are just "chain yankers". People are so in need of attention.
It’s the same on the Prima in NYC on April 27th. Our check in (the first one) is at 12pm as well!
Sounds like they brought a Fisher Price machine- the next thing? An Easy Bake Oven! This way you will have desserts whenever you want them!
Nah I just bring my tiny microwave
whoever brought the washing machine must be young and fit. heck i won't even buy a jar of spaghetti sauce if it looks like my grocery basket is already getting heavy.
Whatever happened to washing a few things out in the sink?😂😂😂
Regarding that Maritime Law (1789) - I can't help thinking of the California, the ship that COULD have saved passengers when the Titanic was sinking. She was much closer than the Carpathia which showed up 4 hours later.
The captain of the Carpathia cut all unnecessary power use so it would all go to the ship's propellers to speed the rescue. He was awarded a medal.
I've seen the portable washers & wondered just how well they get clothes clean. If it really works - brilliant!!
There are some “washing machines” that are basically just a collapsible silicone bucket. A low-power agitator stirs a few small items in soapy water, but I think you have to empty the washer and rinse the clothes yourself.

John heald. …. Don said I could bring my own window AC on board. Do you have a 220v extension cord to reach the desk?
Just bring your own extension cord. Also US air conditioners run on 120 V
*or 110
Wash your clothes in the sink for Pete's sake, CRAZY!
Gow about a sandwich maker. You never know when you'll get hungry on a CRUISE!
I saw this on another post and the pic showed it was a portable one that was collapsable. and it is about 12 lbs. It looks like a lettuce spinner.
That doesn’t sound so bad… but still rather use ship laundry. Or just wash in the bathroom sink
Of course you help the people! Love to hear about Carnival and other ships assisting people in distress at sea!
Trying to bring on a portable Washing machine is ridiculous!
What the hell is wrong with these haters? Thank you Carnival for doing the right thing!
How about being a human and treat others as a human?
Thank Carnival for following the law and showing human kindness!
So what happens when you do this and put everyone on vacation in danger . What if it was planned and they all have guns ???????
Send another boat. Sorry but the world we live in is not the same .
Never fails to amaze me what people bring / try to bring on their cruises.....
I wonder how they planned to dry all those clothes. I don't find that my swimsuits dry very quickly when hung on the line in the bathroom. Imagine your load of laundry on that line. Crazy.
My clothes are usually dry after a few hours hanging. Not really an inconvenience
These haters are a bunch of lowlifes.
Cruise lines are doing the right thing assisting another boat. Who knew? A washing machine? 😆 🤣 😂
How do you get through security of ANY kind carrying a washing machine?? And how
do you even carry something like that?
Even if you put everything they need to know in writing, there will always be people who 1) don't read it, or 2) read it, but think they can do whatever they please.
The funniest thing I ever saw was a Fondu pot 😂
Now I’ve seen everything!
Yes, FYI, portable washing machines are a thing. They're usually for camping.
I'm actually glad he covered that as I didn't know they existed and that is perfect for a NYC apartment.
4:16pm St. Thomas Don, I have been following you for about 3 years on RUclips. It seems we are on the Enchanted Princess at the same time. Hopefully we can meet before the end of the cruise.😊
Hi DON, I WAS HOPING FOR ENCHANTED PRINCESS REVIEW AND TIPS. WE BOARD SATURDAY. THANKS
An air fryer is next!
🤔😂

Portable waahing machines weight about 18lbs and cost $150. They wouldve had to pay extra for oveesized check-in. Doesnt nake any sense.
Wow Don!!! I think I will bring my own bed and full-size refrigerator on my next cruise! Seriously?!?!? What are people thinking? I want to bring as little as possible!
At least they got to eat at the buffet.
NCL embarkation and disembarkation in New York is absolutely abysmal in my experience. Why would this be any different?

On our first ever cruise, on the Serenade OTS, we picked up 6 people on a raft while heading to Jamaica. They eventually ended up in Cozumel....

I’m sure when you’re gonna respond to me and say lots of stuff but I’m stating facts where I live there have been news reports and press releases where the police have come out and said Yep this is the law but no, we’re not enforcing it because we don’t believe it
So people are reporting this cruise ship should not have picked up the individuals , their mentality is it could be international boating laws that if somebody’s in distress, you help them, but for these individuals, you should’ve chose to leave them
I hope it’s not, but it is like that in parts of Usa when I was in Canada Barhaven it wasn’t like that I hope it isn’t today
Keep up the good work
I think many Americans are so upset about the border being open. Close our border Mr president
He wants to close it however the REPUBLICANS think it’s amusing to block him on it. Disgraceful.
The ship was in international waters and the people rescued were turned over to the authorities when the ship docked.
I would have never thought about taking a washing machine on a cruise.
Geeze Don, just dash someone’s potential at extra income while they’re on a cruise! Just kidding! But seriously, no more common sense anymore!
It is Maritime LAW... not "Carnival Policy" people.
Somehow I am not surprised by the portable washing machine. There are people who would avoid sharing the same washing machine with others, especially with undergarments and swim clothes.
and does not carnival have self service laundry/?
Maritime laws? What if you pick up some pirates ?? Who will be responsible for the passenger’ssafety
Some folks don’t see people from poor countries as actually “people”. This allows them to have such harsh and cruel attitudes.
Was that couple doing a longer trip and the cruise was just one thing they were doing? So they're still dumb but possibly using camp sites and stuff on another leg?
I was on a Royal Caribbean cruise when people tried to bring on 7 24” fans for their family.
What, bring a washer and not a dryer? I handwashed a pair of jeans on a cruise and it took 3 days to dry. Imagine trying to dry a load of laundry. You would need a hundred magnetic hooks alone to hang everything.
they probably paid more for extra large luggage to bring the washing machine than they would have paid for laundry on the ship!
NCL Breakaway isn't going to Tortola for the May 19th sailing
Unreal. First of all Carnival is not an American company.
Actually, Carnival is British-American, although their ships are under various flags.. Helping distressed people and vessels at sea is required by a treaty which the US signed and ratified after the Titanic disaster.
I do my own laundry on a cruise when needed, but it’s with a wash bag that equals out to washing by hand.
