Every once in a while when I'm on a cruise I get to do something incredible. This happened out of nowhere when I was walking around port on Portugal. A young man approached me to ask me something and I left them with something that made my day.

Wasn't on the street, but a friend and I took a car service to the airport on our way to a cruise. I was using a cane, my friend had a walker, and of course a fair bit of luggage. Our driver didn't just drop us off - he got a luggage cart for us, took it inside, just went above and beyond Normally, I"d have given him a 20% tip, but I upped it, handing him a $50. He was startled - "did you know this was a $50?" he asked. "Yes," I said, "thanks for your help." He was so happy.
I had somewhat similar experience in Guatemala. I wanted to practice my Spanish and haggling skills, so I went to the market to buy a t-shirt. The salesperson was about 9 years old and he wanted $20 for the shirt. I was able to haggle the price down to $10, but the boy was really funny during the process, as if he was playing a comedy role in a movie. So I gave him the $10 for the shirt and another $10 for him to keep for himself. He had a reaction similar to the boys in the story.

Yup…..last week in Victoria I did. Gave a person down on his luck all the loonies and toonies I had. Because I can’t do anything with them. Probably 15 dollars worth. This man cried. And kept blessing me as I walked away.
Love doing random acts of kindness! I am sure I get way more from doing them than the recipients!

Just finished dinner at an expensive restaurant in New Orleans and came upon two elderly homeless men. We didn't have any cash, but asked if they would like our leftovers and untouched desserts. They said yes. As we walked away they "high-fived" each other and were very excited when they opened the boxes.

That fourth kid was the big thug. They couldn't believe their luck.
I remember I used to buy stolen sodas from those kids in Paris.

Don is really dumb to do that. If you want to give money on the street, keep a couple bucks in your pocket. Don's lucky those kids weren't part of something sinister. Bad advice from a travel agent.
That's what I love about Portugal. I feel they are so unpretentious, and everyone is kind, and as you experienced grateful and unapologetically minimal with life. I love their seemly uncompleted life.
Being a blessing to anyone, giving without expecting anything in return pleases the Lord and He will doubly bless you for it. 🙏🏾❤🙏🏾 Well done my friend.
I love doing that with the Scouts’ cookie sales, so cute. I buy service members coffee at cafes and once this gal (Corporal) fell into my arms crying! Tear jerking experiences. ❤
What a wonderful experience you had! By the reaction you saw I bet they were totally honest about why they were raising money. And even if it wasn’t, you got to feel that good about a small gesture

Not traveling but my husband and I were at the grocery store and a young woman with her little son were in front of us. Her food stamps card wasn’t going through and she was having to leave the store without any groceries and she was embarrassed and about to cry. We told the cashier we’d pay for her groceries and my husband went and got her and brought her back inside. She was so appreciative kept saying we didn’t have to do that. We didn’t have to but we wanted to. We all have to help each other out when we can. Nothing feels better.
One of the neighborhood kids had a failing lemonade stand. I paid $50 usd for a cup. They lost their minds ❤❤❤
Think of it this way your cruise 🚢 was how much…$$$ so $40 is like a drop of water in a bucket 😂 anyway as you said it’s probably only one or two ice cream 🍦 it’s better them to have it because what would you do with it no good to you when you get back home 🇨🇦
Don again you seem to draw attention you could have put yourself in danger,I hope your tooth is fixed because again the story is not finished,and wearing white in the end of sept you might want to try a differen’t colour someone made a comment saying about living in the tropics but there are other colours you can try ,been in the fall now there is autumn colours.even cruise ships celebrate fall not with white.

Yes… an immigrant family needed to go to immigration court, and were out of gas. We gave them gas and food money for them and their kids. They were so appreciative

Have good journey across the pond. The existence of island in the middle of atlantic from Funhcai and going west (Tenerife is different) is due to the conflict between the Nubia (south east), Eurasian (north east) and North American (west) plates that conflict and results in volvanic activity that raise ground above water. However, from Teneriffe to Florida, you will pass well south of those island and only cross betwene the Nubia and North American Plates. The line is at about longitude -40°. If you look at Google Earth, you can see the jagged line that separates the plates.
The line between North American/Nubia and to the north between North American and Eurasian plates passes right through Iceland very near to the Blue Lagoon, hence volcavic activity there.

When I go to Cuba, I bring 100 1 dollar bills to hand out. People are very grateful.

While in Europe, we saw people using kids to distract people so they could steal their wallet. We were always very careful.
