I own a 2018 Focus ST-3. Even when it tries to kill me with snap-throttle oversteer, I like the car a lot. it is small, crude, noisy, has over damped shocks that makes highway driving a jarring experience. That being said, it wins in the smiles-per-mile contest, and I do NOT see that with this Mach-E. As a side note, it is the most reliable car I have owned. The only issue in 83k miles was a very minor leak from the clutch system's slave cylinder. The rest has been oil, wiper blades, and tire changes. I even used it as a "moving truck". It was nothing short of amazing at how much you can stuff in the back of it. Anyway, another excellent review.
This is NOT a 2025 model year Mach E. The 2025 model begins production on January 6, 2025. You'll note the gear shifter is inbetween the front seats on this one, where the 2025 model will have a gear shifter on the steering column.
This makes me want a focus rs if were honest. Especially for the price. I can get a rs, a LOT of mods, and still have money left for inevitable rally shenanigans repairs.
How long has Ford committed to supporting the infotainment with upgrades and over the air updates? Wondering what will happen after 5+ years outside of production if this vehicle will not be usable when/if the screen stops functioning.
@@npne1253 Lol Sure dude. That's for rally competition. No one is driving anything as nice as this in competition. Even then you could rip 10 stages and still have some juice left in this.
I'm looking forward to Ford evolving their EV lineup. Sounds like this Mach-E is almost there, but I can't consider it. I'm pretty happy Jim Farley mentionned “We have to start to get back in love with smaller vehicles.” That's music to my ears. Part of me wants this Mach-E but in the body of a Ford Focus wagon (rear drive-bias and all) but that gigantic screen needs to go. Heck I'll even take a 1998 Focus interior, but I've heard many great things about how well the Mach-E drives. As for the battery and its range & power density, I'd be good with an even smaller battery for what I do if it can get the weight down, but for most people, and Americans who seem to really need that 500km of range, Ford needs to do a better job.
I would have preferred it if they didnt use the Mach E name with it. Maybe just release it as a Rall-E. Looks awesome though! ( just got to the part where you said Rall-E please forget my pun)
I really wish they would make a 4 door Mustang Rally car. The SHO I had was close but while it did say AWD, it's mainly FWD till it detects slipping. Not really "fun" to throw around.
Wouldn't buy this trim, but it's nice to see that the Mach E is continuing to slowly get better with yearly updates and price drops. Heat pump is a must for owning in a very cold climate; moving heat is much more efficient than generating heat.
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t really like the way this thing looked. I can also appreciate that Ford is at least trying to inject some life into their EV offerings.
If it wasn't for the interior, or the price, I'd seriously consider this. One or the other. The leases are right, but not right enough to overlook SCREEEEEEEEN
Just need another EV like Ioniq with V2L to charge the Mache E on track. Or you could bring Uhaul truck with portable lift and a few battery packs on pallets to swap out in gravel lot. Should only take 8 hours. Its more efficient than renting a big diesel generator. People are just soft, afraid of getting hands dirty.
@savagegeese 🤣😂😂😂but then you don't get to be warm by the exhaust in the cold while it is inefficient battery charging or you could reroute the exhaust to preheat the battery for charging to become more optimal 🤔
you just make sure you have enough left to make it to a charger, like you'd do in any vehicle. You drive out in the boonies with no gas station in sight and run your car dry?
I think it’s a cool trim, but nothing until a new generation will fix the major issues. It’s worth its value as MSRP, but worth maybe doing a lease. I can’t stand the main center screen personally. I also wish Ford called it a Thunderbird and not a Mustang.
well...eh, subjective. In my books the Polestar 2 looks pretty good and classy & the Ioniq 5 is one of the most interesting looking EVs. The EV6 and Ioniq6 are good looking too, as is the refreshed Tesla Model 3, but the Mach-E to me is a babyboomer mobile. It's one of the ugliest, but that's just me of course.
Those are not all-terrain tires; they are all-weather tires, the best on the market. They are best for snow and great for mileage, with minimal cabin noise.
Man I wish my 2023 Mach-E premium trim got those...I got the very average Michelin Primacy all seasons lol. The plan is to switch to the crossclimate 2s when I destroy the OEM tires.
This car seems awesome, and I'm a big Ford fanboy, but after seeing the Ioniq 5 N's fake noise and shifts no other EV can compare. I hope Ford can get a big pack of nerds together to reproduce Hyundai's master stroke and quickly, but as it stands now the Ioniq N is a more engaging, fun car... Even at twice the monthly lease price.
I predict most of the comments are made before the 5-second mark of the video, and are solely focused about the name which was revealed half a decade ago. None of these comments will have been made by somebody who's actually driven one of these, and none will be appreciative of the hard work the SG team did diving into reviewing this rally package.
Could very well be. And the choice of name was silly. But I haven't driven one so I'm not going to claim the vehicle performs either way. And I've already spent enough time and energy being surprised and or vexed about the name, I'm not going to waste any more. I am impressed at least with what I'm seeing when it comes to the actual rally upgrades they did though. And it's not like Ford has a rally Escape ST or Rally Mustang. The HVAC controls are constant in the Mach-e, while in the Ioniq you have to go into menus. I was impressed with it
eeh still a choice between getting punched in the 'nads or in the face.
The all-touch controls and stuck-on iPads need not be supported
I agree, the ioniq 5 is overrated and overpraised by press. Mediocre car.
EV`s seem to be iPads with a car attached to it.
The privacy violations attached as well. "Legitimate interest" datamining the user into oblivion.
They have the the battery life to match.
Evs are throw-away cars just like phone batteries wear out Evs will too.
Cars in general are becoming ipads with cars attached...
@@LLT-214 they only take what you give. I wouldn't bother giving anyone my info so I miss out on the "connectivity" experience. And I'm very happy to do so.
@@ThePilotGear Not true. how many times have big tech been caught overstepping their bounds. Already governments are talking about remote stopping ev's to 'save the envorinmnet". If ev's were soley about performace i would hop on. They are not. and Elon is not your friend or mine.
Excuse my spelling i had a beer.
12:05 - that clunking steering rack is unforgivable. Might be okay on a homebuilt kit car,… but Ford?
Very impressive that it won a race without modification and it doesn't need a roll cage, fire extinguishers, etc. The better ride is a good reason to buy one. My Volvo C40 does an outstanding job of integrating traditional, physical controls with a modest infotainment: I don't need the screen to drive it. Ford should benchmark it. BTW: the savage goose intro triggered my PTSD. :)
Love the intro
Coming from a 2013 Subaru, my Mach E Rally is amazing lol
plus the lease deals! Hoping Subaru comes out with an STI by the time my lease is up though 😅
Glad to see Ford working on that suspension.
I like this concept, but the mach-e was among the first EV and it's a bit undercooked nowadays. Can't wait for a new generation of mach-e rally. I'm sure will be great.
That's pretty dope it easily won a rally competition
I keep thinking if they stuff I4 turbo in that platform, it will appeal to those who are not ready to transition to electric
A rally Ioniq 5N would be awesome for the folks in the snow belt.
The cover photo is amazing!
I always thought the steering rack knock on my 17 year old bmw was a problem to be fixed on an old car. Now I know it's actually a new car feature!
excited for the Ioniq experience. Hopefully it's a 5
Take note manufacturers - this is how you do an EV front end. Doesn't look like voldemort with that black panel in the front. Well done ford.
This makes me want a focus rs if were honest. Especially for the price. I can get a rs, a LOT of mods, and still have money left for inevitable rally shenanigans repairs.
The word Mustang should never been attached to this vehicle…The Mustang is great sounding , tire shedding , adrenaline ICE vehicle.
How long has Ford committed to supporting the infotainment with upgrades and over the air updates? Wondering what will happen after 5+ years outside of production if this vehicle will not be usable when/if the screen stops functioning.
This is definitely one of the cars.
Stopping for ~30 minutes to charge the batteries in the middle of nowhere is something every rally driver likes👍🏼👍🏼
Not a big deal.
@@sappyjohnson 🤡
You clearly don't know what rally is, or why you wouldn't need much range for it.
@@TheBowerbird rally stages typically go around 20 km and there's tens of them everyday, yeah you totally don't need good range or big fuel tanks uhuh
@@npne1253 Lol Sure dude. That's for rally competition. No one is driving anything as nice as this in competition. Even then you could rip 10 stages and still have some juice left in this.
Looks like the "nomad" versions of vehicles in cyberpunk 2077
Amazing how a modification package took this from a car I had zero interest in, to a serious contender.
I’d take this (not necessarily the Rally) version over the Ionique. To me, the driving experience is very important.
First thing I thought was reminds me a bit of the Merkur Xr4ti. Another Ford win
If driven in anger, how long does the battery last? Can it do 80 miles?
15:24 yes yes, a thousand times yes
Is this the right edit? 5:51
Looks like a giant RC car.
Honestly, I have only seen a few of these around town since release but the Hyundai and Kia EV are all over the place.
If it wasn't for the interior, or the price, I'd seriously consider this. One or the other. The leases are right, but not right enough to overlook SCREEEEEEEEN
great review but this isn't a 2025 model. I know you talked about it briefly but the title was a bit misleading IMO
That'll be a day when I spend almost $70k. For any mustang
But where do u charge on a rally/autocross stage? Bring a giant diesel or petrol generator? Yay doublecarbon footprint lmao
I ran the entire event (9 runs) and drove 70 miles home on one charge with some left over. No problem.
@@anthonymagagnoli2491 oh well there ya go! hahahah so happy you chimed in here
you just make sure you have enough left to make it to a charger, like you'd do in any vehicle. You drive out in the boonies with no gas station in sight and run your car dry?
M3p smokes this thing in every metric
I like the rims.
Those wheels seem a bit familiar, like N Vision 74 familiar
Mark still riding the yacht rock wave lol, that was a good documentary though
I will always ride that wave in the pursuit of smooth grooves.
The car having “serious problems” reminds me of my father describing me
Finally a car cool enough to attract your wife’s attention from her boyfriend’s CT5-V blackwing
savage Sig
why do you care so much what other people buy lol
then her boyfriend move to Canadian winter and die in a car accident because his car isn't awd. Husband comes to rescue on his awd rally mach-e
I think it’s a cool trim, but nothing until a new generation will fix the major issues. It’s worth its value as MSRP, but worth maybe doing a lease. I can’t stand the main center screen personally.
I also wish Ford called it a Thunderbird and not a Mustang.
Wish it came in McRib sauce red.
The E-Rally unfortunately looks cool
You can hear the clunks over the bumps through the camera. It's louder than my EV6 with a folding bike bouncing around in the back.
Best looking common EV.
Not even close.
well...eh, subjective.
@ThePilotGear I don't care what you think. That's just me.
5.7" of ground clearance. Beware of ripping that battery wide open.
I"m just glad they didn't slap RS badges on it
this will be perfect for the snow filled costco parking lot to get to the closest parking spot before the other monkey, drift right into the spot !!
So when did Ford focus on selling quantities of 12 like Fiat?
I think Ford dropped the ball on naming this a Mustang. They should have used the Fusion name instead.
Finally Jack says rides well instead of rides good.
Good is not a way things can ride.
Good is what Superman does.
@@Chris.Davies Unless he tolerates collateral damage.
Now if we can just get him to stop mispronouncing "aesthetic"... 😉
Who at Ford went "I want the worst aspects of a modern Subaru put into our not-Mustang"?
I'm a Subaru owner but I upvoted this comment 😆
@@uncalm Saaame
I’d get a V8 version of this thing
Those are the same seats as my 24gt brother. What are you talking about.
I predict most of the comments are made before the 5-second mark of the video, and are solely focused about the name which was revealed half a decade ago.
None of these comments will have been made by somebody who's actually driven one of these, and none will be appreciative of the hard work the SG team did diving into reviewing this rally package.
Still shit though
Could very well be. And the choice of name was silly. But I haven't driven one so I'm not going to claim the vehicle performs either way. And I've already spent enough time and energy being surprised and or vexed about the name, I'm not going to waste any more. I am impressed at least with what I'm seeing when it comes to the actual rally upgrades they did though. And it's not like Ford has a rally Escape ST or Rally Mustang. And the Focus has been gone for ages
Any EV video on this channel is like this
They should’ve named it Rall-E
