I'm sure Ford's market research indicates that the plastic oil pan combined with a very street-visible front skid plate is the optimal solution for customers' needs, which primarily focus on flexing during Costco runs. I live in the truck country South and the cleanest, most dirt and scratch free trucks I see all say "Raptor" on the side. Maybe Ford knows what they're doing.

@@Lazirus951 Yup. It's not just you. From very early in their history, automotive companies figured out that what they sell is decidedly NOT transportation, but "Image". There are plenty of ways a person can get around. But "Image" and the "Image buyer" is what the industry hinges upon, especially post WWII. Once you see this fact and fully absorb its significance, you can't unsee it. Quality, longevity, practicality, maintainability, affordability, efficiency, and value are ALL second-place to "Image". Much of what car companies promote as "sustainability" or "going green" is simply selling a new kind of "Image" to an evolving addressable market.

ZR2 starts at 48K with some incentives I've seen them as low as 45K. Trailboss arguably as much as most people need and those nicely optioned are 40K.
Just a few years ago the F150 raptor MSRP was what, 72K? So for 10K less you get a way smaller truck. And I love small trucks. This is just a knock against the massive inflation on vehicle prices. I work in the industry and our wages certainly didnt increase 50% and neither did the cost of materials. It's a total farce how expensive shit has gotten. I saw many cars and trucks, same platform, have massive bumps. When you design and build a vehicle everything is ammoritized. The cost is going to be the same throughout the life of the product launch, if not get cheaper due to increased volume if the product line is successful.

Of course you are going to dramatically overpay for any vehicle with a sticker that says, "Raptor". If they could sell this for a million they absolutely would.

I did have to laugh at the rear door trims missing the soft suede like topper and silver decorative insert that the front ones get. Driving my ranger every day I'm most satisfied with the drivetrain (2.0L bi turbo, 10 speed) and impressed by the quality of the switches, buttons and stalks. The only crap feeling input is the drive mode select.

We have Ford Rangers approaching the price of a 5 series and E class.
This is basically a sports car for a truck guy. There is a class of Americans which would never be caught dead in a European luxury/sports vehicle and so instead of buying an X3 M50 they keep buying more and more expensive midsize trucks.
And I know I'm beating a dead horse but 60k is insane for a class of vehicles that was once based around economy. Believe it or not in the early 90s these trucks had the same base msrps as compact economy cars. A Ranger was ~$8k new, the same price as a Civic. Too be fair it would cost you about $20k just for the suspension setup and beefed up frame alone.
Too be fair Ford is selling at $55k.
The extra $10k+ is the stealerships.
Wait till the hype dies down and supply normalizes, these will be under 55 used.
