drone noun (AIRCRAFT) ... an aircraft that does not have a pilot but is controlled by someone on the ground, used especially for dropping bombs or for surveillance
Because it has been established that anything with 4 electric motors in an X pattern that have props on them is called a drone, the idiocy never ceases to amaze me! When they first came out in the RC world they were known as a Quadcopter. I believe the correct name should be Multi Rotor Aircraft or MiRA!
@@AZ-bx8yi Well, Multi rotors aren't always electric! and MiRA just sounds better! Fact of the matter is, unless the industry gets its act together they will just be known as drones... god help us all!
Disagreed, MiRA doesn’t make a lot of sense, and anything non electric in the future doesn’t make sense so let’s just all agree that EMRA is the way to go. Sorry you didn’t think of it first, no need for hostility, lol. All jokes aside, you’re right, maybe they will get their act together someday soon, but let’s not count on it just yet!
They're different helicopter types of aircraft. It looks like antigravity may happen sometime after the apocalypse, but maybe manufacturers can come up with different types of propulsion.
Bonjour , superbe engin mais pourquoi incliner tout l'appareil au risque de perdre l'aérodynamisme alors que l'on pourrait le conserver juste en inclinant les moteurs ?
The Truth is this; racing is how the "rich" make the poor to pay for R&D (Research & Development) without giving away any ownership fo their company or assets. When you support racing you are supporting the "rich" remaining "rich" because the poor pay for it all. Essentially they will simply push out as many iterations as possible, even when they are negligible in the grans scheme. This is how they squeeze every dime and penny from the poor. Not only that but you do all their marketing for them as well. People should be demanding that they have a slice of that pie instead of a ticket for a single event.
If even 1 motor axis on a quadcopter fails, the aircraft crashes. One axis might have 2 motors, upper and lower. It won't take long before a minimum of 6 motors dominates the sport for safety reasons. Four might be more efficient and faster, but regulators will require safer a/c.
These prop drone racing cars are not the way to go. They are unstable, lethal in so many ways, and the designs I'm seeing are all based on formula one cars because 'that is familiar'. They wont look like this at all when the engineering gets finalized in twenty years or so.
I expect there will be different drone types/designs for different purposes, even within a sector like air taxi there will be ones designed for longer journeys and others for shorter more frequent ones... Safety is going to be critical (look what's happened to F1 and air-taxi is even more important for public recognition of this as an option). Noise level is going to be important in urban environments, anhedral tipped blades for example to improve acoustics.
@@johnorr8094 I can see a flying armored vehicle using two to four ducted fans for a similar hovering purpose, then either transitioning to level flight with its main engines or using ground effect to get up to high speeds. A hybrid between an A-10 warthog and AH-56 Cheyenne.
These vehicles will cost so much with a terrible battery life and as for me I’m 56 years old I may never see when these vehicles are affordable and become the norm .
When I watch vehicles of this type fly I always wonder about passive redundancy. As if one motor fails can the others compensate enough to maintain control to land? Or will the vehicle simply auger in? Any thoughts?
Am I the only one who just realized that the pod racer scene was a take on the chariot races from ancient Rome?? Clips #3 and #5 I could get behind easily. While the current multi-copter style drones are great for lightweight unmanned use, I feel there is still a lot of work to be done to make them reliable and safe for manned/piloted flight. However, I do feel that the designers and developers are on the right track. Another design I would like to see come to light is the jet-bike shown in the movie The Island with Ewan McGregor.
I think a ducted fan design would be safer than an open prop quad . I’d like to see if it was possible to build one with a large central intake like an electric turbine and use thrust vectoring to maneuver by controlling the volume of airflow exiting the ducts

Okay so they are getting close to flying car's and bike's but, my question is how do these new air craft handle in cold weather? Seeing as winter is a season all over the world and snow is also a condition that winter weather dose bring to some area's of the world. Cold weather is needed for snow to fall on the Earth. There are many state's that have winter snowy condition's for many month's. Dose that mean these air craft are useless when there are snowy condition's or cold weather condition's. Is there going to be a real world demonstration of this new air craft, or are you going to just play in a CGI fantasy world?
