  • You can fix a Honda Accord transmission shifting or slipping problem with a crowbar and q-tips. If it is clogged solenoids it is not hard to do. Watch and you will see how easy it is.
    Heres a comment from paul thorpe that explains the symptoms....
    Freaking Awesome....IT WORKED....I only took out the top Solenoid (not under battery). The filters were absolutely clogged. It took me about 10 q-tips to get all the gunk out. My problem was that when I first started it it wouldn't shift to second gear unless I moved it into neutral for a few seconds....then it would go to second. I dreaded stop signs b/c idiots would always honk b/c I had to take of slow because now it wouldn't start out in first but rather second gear from a stop. What is sad is my mechanic and Aamco said I need a new/used transmission, cost at least 2k.... But what I noticed is when car was warmed up, the problem went away. So I thought that it couldn't be a bad tranny so I wanted to eliminate other things. Thank God I found this....I didn't spend a cent....just cleaned the filters......THANKS Y'ALL

    That was awesome. I subbed. Great closeups. To the point.
    2002 Accord. 225k miles. Started getting p0730 check engine. Changed the fluid. Fixed the problem. Now a month later problem is back but only in the cold morning for about 5 minutes till it warms up then shifts smooth again. I’m probably gonna wind up cleaning the solenoids next. Thanks again this just what I needed. Oh yeah and great tunes.

    Thanks! I cleaned out the gunk on the first set of filters out. I used parts cleaner to spray it off then reinstalled. Mine was shifting abnormal and would over rev/ delay shifts on all gears even at a stop light. after doing this, it drove fine. And still does. Took about 40 minutes to do.

    September 10 2024 I had this video pop up looking for information how to replace some instrument bulbs.
    Anyway, one of the main problems people say the gen 6 accord is transmission failure. I wonder how many people got taken for told they needed a new or rebuilt trans only to have these filters cleaned?
    Those filters could easily be the reason Honda automatic trans in the gen 6 go bad. If the transmission doesn't get the required circulation of fluid it is bound to fail. It is no different then a engine with no oil pressure.
    I have a 2002 accord. I don't drive nearly as much as I used to. The past 4 year's I am lucky if I drive more then 4000 miler per year. I know that is nothing. Hi mate, my 2001 accord (115k kms) wanting to jerk forward at stop lights and signs after being on the highway for a bit. It doesn't happen when the car is cold, but seems to start after it has time to wake up and warm up. Usually on my way home from work and when I have more traffic. With my foot on the brake the car it seems to be in some cycle, and jerks forward. If I didn't have the brake down it would just smash the car in front of me. And if I try to press the gas peddle down in the off cycle feeling it clunks to get moving. If I catch it in the forward cycle no issues. When I put the car in neutral the problem goes away. Until again I have to drive.
    The car has normal power, speed, and gas mileage. I just changed plugs and wires to test the issue and that didn't fix it. Somebody told me transmission gone bad. Even i replaced 2 transmissions. (Off course from donor cars which were crashed and written off) but the problem is still there!!!!!! Got checked by mechanic if its something else. But mechanic says its transmission. Please help.

I tried stubby wrench, wobble socket, universal - no go. The only way I can see getting to it is to remove that ATF line that's above it. Is that what you did?

    • @bootlegcustomshop4129
      @bootlegcustomshop4129  3 года назад +1

      Yes that was a challenge. I believe we used a open end wrench. Or maybe a crow foot. A little at a time till it got so we could grab it. Didn't take off atf line.

    • @gfriedman99
      @gfriedman99 3 года назад +1

      I@@bootlegcustomshop4129 I am going to try removing that line or at least loosening that large bolt that holds it to the trans case so that hopefully I can wiggle the steel line out of the way. Geez, Honda could have put a bigger curve in the line to avoid covering that bolt - plenty of space north of it. Just crazy busy with work now due to the holidays plus good weather days are getting far and fewer between now.

      @@bootlegcustomshop4129 So yesterday the car became almost undriveable even shifting manually down to 1 or 2 stopped working. Fortunately my day off today was a nice day so I went ahead and tackled this job. I had to get the ATF line out of the way for the top solenoid bolt. No way around it. Actually pretty simple. 17mm gets the bolt at the end of the tube. Careful there are 2 aluminum washers above and below the ATF tube - they're the same washer thats used on the oil drain plug. Next 10mm on the side bracket - an open end or better yet those ratcheting box wrenches get it. Last is the 10mm holding the tube near the top solenoid bolt. Now the line can be moved out the way. Easy 3 10mm bolts for the solenoid. My screen was clogged worse than yours. Totally packed. I couldn't even see daylight through it holding it up to the sky. I could have cleaned it, the rubber was still pliable but opted for a new one anyway. So put it all back together being careful not to cross thread any bolts. 10mm gets 8.7ft/lbs the 17mm gets 21ft/lbs. About an hour job. Couldn't believe how well it shifts now. Like new again. Hasn't shifted this smooth in at least 10 years.
      I wonder how long before it gets packed again with crud. It's possible it happens quickly from all the shit floating around the system even though I changed the fluid. We'll see.

    My 1995 Accord has 180k on it and drives fine, but from neutral to drive 4 it has delayed engagement. Instead of one engagement it seems like two. Like bump and as second later another bump. Same with drive 3. Low and drive 2 engage normally. I removed the first solenoid and the screens were very clean, however, the rubber gasket has a notch in it. Not a complete split but a small notch. Both solenoids were cleaned and were noticeably louder when I reinstalled them. Still, the problem persists.Any ideas?

      Dude you need to reset your transmissions computer back to factory. It's super easy. I have 2001 Accord 4 cyl 198,000 plus miles. Going into 2nd was a pain in the ass especially around turns. Every other gear was perfect. Resetting requires no tools and you dont even need to pop open the hood. My 2nd gear issue is resolved. Idk how to post a link but on RUclips type in "how to rest Acura honda ECU transmission". The channel is MODS FOREVER. I can almost guarantee that this will solve the problem. Be sure to drive about 50 miles after the reset is done and drive how you would normally drive. The computer will adjust the trans accordingly. My car shifts like new. Hoping for another 100k. Well I have a 2002 Honda Accord 2.3L. I cleaned the lock up and A/B solenoids and did a transmission drain and fill. Transmission fluid was very black. Let just say that when I drained the transmission, I drained the 1 and 2 clutch. Beware if your fluid is very black, Car only had 128,000 miles on it when I got it. I had to get a transmission swap done and it still has some jerking issues and I installed a in line transmission filter, the same one that is used on the 2.4L element and accords.
    ( I did find out that the torque converter on these transmissions are the culprit for the screens to get clogged up. Torque converter slips causing clutch material to go through the system ruining the whole transmission)

Anyways, yesterday, after doing that hidden solenoid, I drove her, 99 accord 4cyl, and she rammmed hard into first gear and would not come out of first. automatic shifter was loosy goosy, not engaging the trans even with engine off...had to press the release button to move the shifter but nothing...stays in first. Fortunately, was not far from house, had to tow strap her home. She did pull easily.
      Question~1) How do I get her out of first (shows in 1st on instrument panel) ??
      2) When putting that hidden solenoid back on, those three little tubes...surrounded by the little round gaskets, I may have revearsed the tube, screen side toward solenoid. (correct?) Cant really afford even a rebuilt trans just yet, so I need to get her out of first, which keeps the car from even starting. I will check that adjustable shifter lever underneath to make sure it didnt pop off.
      Trans has been hard shifting, not shifting, slipping, but once I got her to higher speed, (over 50) I could ride around but it seemed like I was only in third. (rpm was kissing 3ooo)

    I have a 2001 Honda Accord LX automatic transmission with 207,000 miles. My car only moves in reverse not forward.The problems started a couple of months before this happened 1. when starting car and putting in reverse heard a loud sound 2.Loud exhaust noise 3.Car jerking forward at stop sign 4. When putting car in reverse then drive heard loud kick.5. when going down the street at 5 mph the tachometer went 3000 rpm-4000 rpm-4500 rpm. 6. when going somewhere car would take time to reach 40 mph even with accelerator pressed fully. One day when driving home the car just stalled and after five minutes of waiting and restarting the car was able to make it home at normal speed and parked it in the garage. After starting it again it would only move in reverse not forward. I suspect that it could be a transmission solenoid as some research I did says it could be a transmission solenoid. But when I called a transmission shop they told me that the problem is internal and doesnt have to do with the solenoid. Would like to get another opinion on this issue

    Thanks a lot for this video. I should try this today.
    Two days ago, noticed my 2003 Accord, 2.4L started mild jerking when accelerating uphill and needing to downshift. Immediately after managing to climb the hill, transmission slips into neutral intermittently, causing the car to stall. If I approached a full stop at this time, car would refuse to move when I accelerate (regardless of terrain- level ground or slope). I would have to switch off the engine, wait several minutes, restart and when I shift to 'D', car would move normally (but transmission makes some 'slapping' sound when I shift back to Park at this time. Same sound absent next morning when cold).
    Just a month ago, I did a routine transmission drain and refill (×3) BUT did not check the solenoid filters. I was suspecting a failing downshift solenoid. Could clogged filters be the problem here?
    PS: Never compromised on my transmission service schedule. Transmission fluid clear as day and level okay. Car has run great as a daily driver for 9 years. Never a transmission or engine problem till date. No check engine light thorough all these. Scanned, no codes!!!

      Didn't work for me, so I had to order a matching, pulled transmission. On the 'new' transmission, a pressure switch attached to the rear plate was found missing due to a broken flange. There is also seepage of transmission fluid from the crack line.
      I think one can easily substitute the broken rear plate for the one on my original transmission. Do you think it's a good idea or I should just be patient some more days and send back to seller for a replacement?
      Wish I could send you pics to see.

      @@oldartisttricks2692 I looked up the serial number on the 'new' transmission and discovered that it was an MCTA pulled from an Acura TSX but matches my original BCLA. So, I went ahead to substitute the rear plates and successfully mated it to the K24A engine. Transmission shifting seamlessly so far and no trouble codes. The only snag is that the stick wouldn't shift completely into gear 1 (the lowest on the rung). It kind of hangs between gear 2 and 1, purely due to no further space for the stick to move backwards.
      I have tried adjusting the transmission range sensor to no effect. I suspect the shift cable might need a bit of adjustment, no??
      For the sake of learning, would like to ask anyone with experience working on Honda transmissions if there are any drawbacks in replacing a BCLA with an MCTA type. Kindly weigh in with your ideas. Thanks 😊
