Thanks DAX for the walkthrough install vid. It was very helpful seeing you go through the process along with other DIY vids I've seen. I'm basically compiling all the tips and tricks in hopes for a smooth install myself. Wish me luck!
@@DaxM Thanks! Disconnecting the 12V and main battery was straight forward even though I have a 2018 M3P. Next came removing the OEM steering wheel. Disengaging the air bag was easy. Removing the bolt was the tough part alone. I had my son help me along w/ a 24" breaker bar. We got it done. Transferring the guts was easy but I realized I faced the same problem 'Tesla Joy' had. The oriignal scroll wheels modules were too large so I had to swap out the ones the yoke came with. After that it was boom, boom, boom on putting back together the yoke wheel and getting it back on to the steering column. I did have a torque wrench but didn't have an extension arm/bar so I basically tightened it as much as could. I'll probably re-check the bolt in the coming weeks. Thank you again for your step-by-step vid!
Thanks for the video. I did mine in about an hour earlier this week thanks to yours and other instructional videos posted ... Items of note: for 2022 Model Y, I torqued to 59 ft-lbs (didn't see any official documentation but it is what Abstract Ocean and other forums have recommended). Second, when tightening the middle nut, I would suggest placing the torque wrench on the right side and pushing downwards. The risk of working from the left side and torqueing upwards is that if the wrench slips out of the hole, you could potentially damage the roof!
The amount of effort it requires is insane. I am so tempted to do it but at the same time I want to avoid messing up anything. I wish Tesla offer this installtion in their shop to avoid any warranty.
@@HetguruIv also seen videos of people doing it without disconnecting battery or even powering off car and nothing happened.. This is just a safety measure. I might just power car off through the control options and not open the doors. I’m kinda scared to start unplugging stuff 😅
Thank you for elaborate instructions. It’s wonderful. Others don’t give any information how to transfer and install guts from old steering wheel to the new. It’s wonderful. God Bless you. You are the best.
Appreciate the vid! My Hansshow carbon fibre yoke just came today and the instructions provided on their site are at best Cliff's Notes of what really needs to be done. The step-by-step instructions you provided are great. I like the advice to take a picture of things as you go.
Had mine installed and so far, it's freakin' fantastic!!!!! Had it installed at a shop....which....they claimed it took "3 hours to do!" LMAO. (they were charging for labor by the hour so, guess it made sense for them to take their sweet time!
Thank you for this in depth video! I got hung up when I realized I had to move the wire harness and springs over. Got her all set up, definitely finishes off the futuristic look.
Hey Dax .... I found out the torch setting for the steering wheel... 92nm or 68lbs ... I watched the another youtube channel "the megawatts" to get this information for you and fellow watchers.... Great video... hope to see more on your new blue/white model Y.. Take care Andy
@@andyd8185 I'm a service technician so I get my information there. The service manual. The manual says not to reuse the bolt also but I wouldn't worry about it. I would just put a blue loctite to keep it from getting loose.
great video, looking to install mine this week but like you have been search for all install types. yours by far as been the most detailed. I have yet to remove my plastic covering to see if I have the bio defense version as other videos i've seen show the 12 v battery and then the main power under the rear seat (passenger side). I think 1 other person disconnected the main power like you. Mine is also a 2022 and took delivery in June too.
thanks man! I subscribed and liked! can you please do another complete review for new 10.25 in 4G screen installation? you are the only one who explained all in detail. specially how to disconnect the batteries... thet new screen comete installation is appreciated and thanks jn advance 😊👍
Great video! Very thorough with details and I've been trying to find install videos with later model 3's/Y's because I also have a very late model 3. Been looking for a compatible rear fog light blinker for my 2023 M3P but no luck so far. I ordered the Hansshow fishbone rear foglight replacement but the pin-outs on the lights are not compatible with 2023/2022. I had to return them and sill searching for compatible ones. I reached out to Hansshow and they said it's in development to produce a new wiring harness for the 2023 model 3 Performance being manufactured in Fremont, CA. Let me know if you've done an install or found a brand of that rear bumper fog light that works on a 2023 M3 Performance. Thanks!
That is strange. My hearing function is not working and Hansshow is saying that they aren’t going to fix it. I’m considering having my credit card company do a charge back if they don’t fix it.
Yo thanks for the way you did it. Every other video has been switching the internals from the oem wheel to the aftermarket yoke. I've been wondering if it's possible to just swap the whole thing over rather than doing unneeded surgery with the internals,
Torque is 80 Nm (59.0 ft-lbs) You're not suppose to reuse the Steering Wheel Bolt but that's ok. I would put blue Loctite to keep it from coming loose.
Great video. I did my own 2022 M3P yoke swap and it went perfectly. However next day, I'm getting a "passenger restraint system fault". I obviously didn't touch anything on the passenger side, I also tried disconnecting the 12v, then the main battery connection in hopes it would clear out. No luck. Next I'm assuming the service center will use the yoke as a scapegoat and not fix the problem under warranty 😑🫠 I may put the wheel back on before service 🤪
I want to send you some money as a thank you as your video saved my $@#!!! Your video is the ONLY video I could find on youtube showing how to remove and replace the hardware inside the steering wheel as my Hansshow wheel didn't come with it. Unfortunately I have an issue with the airbag as it's stuck at the bottom and I can't get it out no matter what. I'm driving with the new wheel but I'm scared what's going to happen the first time I have to press the horn.
is it just me or the lower part of the airbag is not fitted in at the lower part? 24:34 or the airbags from normal steering are diff than yoke's which is awful
After 4 months it was still good. I personally took it off for the winter, but I know many people that keep it on year round. The only con I can find is if you were in an emergency situation where you need to grab the wheel suddenly and you are used to having a round wheel, this may be troublesome. As for warranty, I can't see how this would affect any warranty with the rest of the car.
I've had it for a few days, only couple things I've noticed are; 1) it's almost impossible to drive with a knee (don't judge, we all do/done it!), 2) accelerating quickly through a U turn and straightening out fast is not nearly as easy as a round wheel. But those pale in comparison to all the pluses! I love it and won't go back. Visibility is way better than I anticipated too. Zero obstructions out the front is awesome!
I 100% agree. Hansshow has FANTASTIC products, but SHIT instructions.. but also... who cares about instructions! We have RUclipsrs to teach us how to install :D
I was scammed and so infuriated. My yoke stick came in but was not a Tesla yoke stick or just poorly built it took me about 5 hours to get it even together and when I went to snap in the horn and air bag it would not fit. Please if someone can help me escalate this and make hanshow accountable for this I would greatly appreciate the help. I waited 2-3 weeks just to waste 5-7 hours of my day and now spend anther 5-7 hours to put back the only one due to having work early in the morning tomorrow. This is just so disappointing and a waste of money .
You are the clearest and most to the point teacher, and with the right moves to make to change the steering wheel. Thanks

Yo thanks for the way you did it. Every other video has been switching the internals from the oem wheel to the aftermarket yoke. I've been wondering if it's possible to just swap the whole thing over rather than doing unneeded surgery with the internals,
You have to change your harness to the new yoke. The horn and thump wheels won't work with the new yoke, so you have to change it.
What display is that above the yoke? Looks super clean
It’s also the Hansshow 9” screen.
There's a big gap between the airbag console and steering wheel. Is that how it supposed to be?
How’s that Basic Vehicle Tesla warranty holding up?
Just great

Currently stuck and having issue removing the center bolt, what size of breaker bar you were using? Looking for some advice.
It is very tight! My breaker bar was probably 24-28” long.
Yup, it's super super tight!
Is the airbag supposed to be sticking out so far at the bottom? That looks wrong.
I have purchased Yoke steering wheel, but my model Y is a right hand drive, So it seems a bit difficult to loose steering bolt.
Mine came without holes to remove the airbag from the yoke once I put it on.
