    Picked up my '20 Tacoma TRD OffRoad with 6mt in January of 2020 for ~36k. It's been a fantastic daily driver, also the first vehicle I have owned with power widows and mirrors. Glad you are enjoying still having a solid base model with a manual transmission!

    Coming from a 2010 jk, I just got a 2023 Willys 2 door in velocity yellow. It's pretty loaded with all the features and I'm stunned how much they've improved EVERYTHING since I got my jk. I'm so in love. Makes driving truly a joy.

    I daily drove two door Wranglers for 15yrs (2000 TJ, 2007 JK X, 2016 Willys). Great times and adventures all over the country, but in 2018 traded into a TRD off-road Tacoma as I needed four doors and the utility of a truck, and gave up nothing off road. Hope to own another two door Jeep some day as a fun only vehicle.

    • @mattbrew11

      If you gave up nothing off road by adding 30” of wheel base & IFS you were never really using the Jeeps anyway

    • @ElevationEveryWeekend
      @ElevationEveryWeekend 2 года назад +1

      @@mattbrew11 nothing wrong with IFS for what 98%+ of what most people do. The truck has done everything (and in some ways better) what I did with my Jeeps previously. If you want to run the Rubicon then by all means take the SWB Jeep, but again for most other things the Tacoma is plenty capable and well proven. To each their own!

      @@airstream16 yeah I like the Gladiator, If it was around in 2018 probably would have gone right into that. But, have been really happy and impressed with the Tacoma so plan to pay it off and keep it. With the Gladiators wheelbase being significantly longer yet, I feel like it needs 35’s pretty much right away to get the proportions/performance right.

    I bought a 2014 Jeep Wrangler Sport S 2 door in December 2013. I paid $29K after rebates, before taxes. I daily drove it for over 7 years, it was fun to drive and comfortable. I only sold it because I had kids and needed something more practical. Don’t listen to other people, enjoy your Jeep! It was the most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned, literally nothing failed while I owned it. The best part is I traded it in after 7 plus years and got $22K on a trade.

      Wish I could tell the same story. At around 20K miles and right after the warranty expired the main CPU module died. About an $1,100 cost. About a year later the oil pressure sensor crapped out($800) and a year later the rear ABS sensors died($750). All after the warranty expired. If you are trading it in at the dealership, you really can't trust those numbers... The dealerships will play games with the sale price and trade-in value to confuse you and make you think you are getting a better deal than you really are... To know what you're really getting on your trade-in, you need to negotiate the best deal that you can get on the new vehicle with the assumption that you are not going to be trading in a vehicle... After you get that figure THEN start talking about a trade-in and see what they are willing to give you... You should also get quotes from other used car dealerships like Auto Nation... My experience has been that Auto Nation or Texas Direct Auto will give you quite a bit more than the dealership...

    I’ve owned/driven five two door Wranglers since 2000. Started out with my first ordered ‘00 TJ, then three new JKs, and now our JL. Currently own a ‘21 JL80AE with the 2.0T. Love it; best Wrangler to date! My wife stole it from me, so now I DD another car that she used to DD, lol. Wranglers are my favorite DD extant. My wife would agree too. We are averaging approximately 22.5 mpg with 87 octane, in generally city commuting. If we take it on the hwy, we average 25 mpg. These mileage figures are for two doors, without any off road (not raised/no bigger wheels & tires) mods! With the 2.0 T, this Wrangler sprints like a scalded dog! The Alpine stereo is relatively good & we love the heated seats & steering wheel, & the A/C is lights out. The HT is worth every penny…. BTW, get rid of the silly dealer plaque on your Wrangler… Cheers/B

I drive the crap out of my new Jeep doing gig work and commuting nearing 19500 miles in 14 months. I get about 17/mpg mostly non-highway miles. I love it and it's been reliable and it's my first new car as well. I have no need for a back seat so I easily popped it out I estimate the new usable space is equal to or slightly more than a 4 door's cargo area. You're a brave man to drive in winter with mud terrain tires. I tried that decades ago and they were positively terrifying on ice. I can only imagine what its like in a Wrangler. Not a problem if you live in an area where they clear the roads religiously in winter but I don't live in that area and I'd never think of being stuck in a snow storm during a road trip on mud terrains. Nope, I'd park it. Where I ride, a convertible is out of the question. After one fall season the plastic windows would be scratched up by branches in our narrow trails. You could take them off but I hunt so...no. I still think it the perfect vehicle for someone like you and agree, they are perfectly capable off-road for almost everybody and you don't need a Rubicon like most people. As for that Wrangle. Remote locks are a must specially in winter. I've had too many frozen locks and freezing rain to want to ever use a key again specially for the rear tailgate. For a young person like you its just about perfect. But if I was in your place I would have bought the FJ Cruiser TFL had or if I could find one, a manual one. Its about the same price and better in almost every way except fuel economy. It has remote locks, better ride, as good if not better off-road, no plastic windows, just as reliable, more comfortable, way more roomy and only a little longer. Sure it wouldn't have had a warranty, but they are never useful when you're off-road.

    I agree with having the most simple vehicle possible. Its more reliable. Just needs 4x4, a heater, an A/C, and power locks and windows. The power windows are needed to roll up/down windows in the rear while driving. And the power locks are because its a huge safety hazard to funmble with keys in a parking lot at night trying to unlock your door. Stay vigilant my friends.

    You're young...many things go don't matter till you start aging. As one gets older, the need for more luxury starts creeping in. Can't roll the passenger side windows down (4 windows for many) when driving or adjust pass mirror. Even electronic folding (in/out) mirrors is so nice. Your tastes will change as you get into late 30's and 40's, then 50's every thing will be digital, power, automatic sensing, computer controlled and soft touch.

    On 11-30-2020 I ordered my first ever Jeep. A 2021 JL Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. I ordered mine with the 3.6 liter Pentastar V-6 with eTorque and an 8 speed automatic transmission. It came in on 02-12-2021 and I took delivery of it about a week and a half to 2 weeks later. So far I totally love almost everything about my Jeep but if I had known that Jeep was going to announce the release of the 392 V-8 approximately 2 weeks after I ordered my Jeep and then the Extreme Recon package later on I would have waited and ordered that instead. My only dislike and hate with my Jeep is the eTorque. I had no idea what it was and didn’t know that the Jeep came with a belt start generator, a big honking second battery under the frame that also has its own coolant system and water pump. I’m sorry but I totally hate that! I would much rather have just a single battery and alternator that can be swapped out on a trail should either one or even both go out. The belt start generator is almost $1,000.00 just for parts and extremely difficult to replace. The eTorque battery is another $2,500 and you cannot replace it unless you have special tools and know how to do so without getting shocked. Then the coolant system for the battery and water pump for the battery coolant system is around another $600.00 to $800.00 just for parts. That is total crap! Eventually I will trade mine in for a 392 V-8 with the Extreme Recon package simply because I hate the eTorque that much! I also have to switch the engine stop/start button off every time I start the vehicle up because that too is totally stupid and will wear the engine out much faster.

      @@hondaralph4081, yes it is now unfortunately. When I ordered my Jeep the 2021 orders had just started but not a lot of info was out. As a result of that I found out after ordering my Jeep that it had the eTorque and what it was. I intentionally did not want to 2.0 I-4 Turbo as I wanted something naturally aspirated for better longevity and reliability. I also considered the 3.0 V-6 diesel but it did not have 4:10 gearing. I think it was 3:78 if I remember correctly? And DEF fluid is stupid! If my 3.6 just had a normal alternator and battery then I would have been perfectly fine with it. But oh well, to late now.

    I love the fact that for someone who runs a car channel, reviewing new cars and holding them against current standards, for his own driving pleasure basically returns to eighties standards and raves about it. Don't get me wrong, I fully and wholeheartedly agree with your decision and conclusion as if it were my own. What I would love to see, not only on this channel but on all channels, is to show some more restraint on the eagerness to accept the next plateau of minimum requirements. Every year the next gen car pushes both the weight, price and service scope of a car well beyond what is achievable for a lot of people. Nowadays a car is practically totaled if you damage a bumper severely enough, so to speak.
    All the technical requirements, the elevated standards for materials, that annoying tendency to have the entire interaction with your car, other than the actual driving, through these bloody screens, onboard infotainment and onboard tech including wireless charging, apple carplay, massive satnavs, additional safety features like lane keep assist and autonomous driving, I could go on and on about all that stuff that make all these cars outpace and out-price most of our wallets, when all we want to do is feel free like a bird, driving, eating asphalt and creating memories and share moments. Your car is more than adequate for that. I would choose yours in a heartbeat and never look back. thanks for the great review!

      It drives me nuts how many car reviews go on at length about things like heated seats and whether it has a 9.1 or 9.2 inch infotainment screen, but completely gloss over the actual details of the drivetrain. They go on about soft touch plastics and ding cars points if they are too "utilitarian" or feel "cheap" but seldom talk about how well that surface will wear or how likely it is to break if kids/pets/rowdy friends aren't gentle with it. Reviews also put excessive focus on things like 0-60 time; A 70s Chevelle SS could do that in 6 seconds, a 2022 V6 Wrangler with a stickshift can do it in 6.1, a Toyota Camry can do it in 5.1. Fiat, or Maserati by the same logic, actually has better reliability ratings than Toyota does in the modern year. And my real life experiences reflect that. My buddy bought a Tacoma about a year after I bought my wrangler. He's never gone on more than so much as a gravel road with it.
