That’s a $29k tops jeep. I remember when the Rubicon came out it was $41k and everyone thought that was crazy expensive. I would love a jeep but they are way over priced.
2 issues. #1 government regulations forcing them to include a thousand nanny safety devices and emission complexity. #2, again gov money printing, in general and specifically the unnecessary covid lockdowns have devalued the dollar 100% and everything will forever cost 2x more than it did. 40k is the bew 20k. Obey.
My grandmother remembers when burgers were a dime.

$41,400 for a BASE model Wrangler?!?!?! 100% crazy. Jeep has lost it's mind.
I wouldn't buy a jeep for over $30,000. That should be what the majority of jeeps are purchased for. As long as fools keep paying rip off prices the auto industry will continue to take advantage.
@@jesspeinado480 In August, I bought the 2024 off the lot, soft top base, hydroblue 2-door, manual 3.6v6, crank windows etc. for $26,500. So no... he DID NOT get the last "cheap jeep" I DID!! LOL
@@nicoledae99 what state? Could you contact me with the dealer? Im looking for a similar deal in the price range.
Unfortunately, people will go into debt to still buy one...
The auto is pretty expensive plus the hard top adds up.
In 1989 I bought a base model Jeep Wrangler convertible 5 speed manual, with manual steering and a 2.5 l engine. I drove the car for over 30 years, 350,000 miles; the cost was $10,000.
and it'd only cost $5,000 to almost completely rebuild lol
I remember those being advertised in full page magazine ads in 4Wheel and Off-road magazine for $8995 (in 88 and 89). My dad bought one and it's currently in my garage with only 25k original miles. I did a power steering conversation but it's otherwise stock. Very fun to drive
year 1991, bought a base jeep Wrangler 6 month old for 5500£, it ran and ran, sold it in 2001 to a French business man for 6000£.
@@rollyourownRandF Engine was never rebuilt. I only replaced the steering box (used) a couple of clutches and about 4-5 starters. Finally at about 325,000 miles the heater core needed to be replaced. Besides tires and a few batteries that was all it needed. Ended up trading it in on a new 2021 Cherokee Trailhawk (they gave me $1,000 dollars trade in).
Jeep's recent price increases have resulted in a total collapse here in Australia - from 30000 in 2014 to 4600 last year. It's just a matter of time until Jeep gives up here - in a market that is red hot for 4x4s ...
No. They're jus making them for the masses anymore. Way more money in selling a third as many vehicles at double the price
Thank you for sharing that. Stellantis stock is tanking.
@@rogerrussell9544 Its really too bad. The current management seems to think Jeep's customer base is a bunch of rich people. Maybe they aren't Americans and are used to super-high tariff's in their home country, so its distorted their image of who their customer base is???
@@johnmathias4871 The failed leadership at Stellantis seems to have gone after the LandRover crowed, the new models compete with Range Rover in reliability and service needs - not just the price.
Literally nothing good has come out of Stellantis’s takeover.. Never thought I’d say this, but I wish Fiat still owned them!..
This would be really interesting to compare to a base 2 door Bronco
....if they still made a base Bronco.
I did and you can go on Ford's site and build one. It's looking like about $42,200. But just compare the options. One big thing is the Bronco 2dr is a longer vehicle to begin with... I would still like to see a real world comparison. To be honest the Bronco started out as a $29k vehicle in 2021... I have a '22 Bronco and am always curious about the Jeep comparisons.
@@longshot197036 There's no base anymore, though. The lowest end Bronco is the Big Bend. There are numerous comparisons out there. The universal consensus is the Bronco is the better road car. But both are great in the dirt.
No more base model. Dumb

$4500 for the auto seems like a rip off.
When there's no other transmission available, it's not an option. It's a rip off.
@@jesspeinado480 Jeep offers a manual as long as you get the V6 but good luck finding one on a lot not optioned with the auto.
@@rogerj412as of right now, nationwide, Autotrader lists 36,873 jeep wranglers for sale. Of those, 496 are manual. So yeah, that tracks. And if you filter by 2 door, that number drops to 169 manual transmissions nationwide.
@@rogerj412 Part of the reason vehicles are so expensive is because people buy what's on the lot instead of ordering a cheaper version. I saved thousands on my truck by ordering it without the features I didn't want or need.
What I don't get is that on the gladiator the 8 speed auto is a $2500 option, whereas on the Wrangler it's $4500.
Push button start without keyless entry has to be one of the weirdest combos 😆
A cheap Jeep like this is made for people who drive with no top and the doors off.
Not only that you'll have to carry that bulky key fob while opening the door. infact the old jeep jl sport had no push button start and keyless and you still have that big ass throwable weapon of a key.
Softtop Jeep always had keyless entry. Because there is no point in locking it - it unzips.
Pushbutton starting costs essentially nothing to implement. Keyless entry requires solenoids, wiring and so on. So a cost cutting measure.
For real 😂
Thanks for doing this series. I think you’re doing it exactly like a lot of people (me included) would build it out. Wheel it as is, then get some reasonable tires, then wheel it some more and find out what you need next. Great video.
Back in 1989, I bought a Jeep YJ off the showroom floor. It was the "S" model and the back seat and a minimal use spare tire were extras, the regular tires were small-ish street tires and it had no radio, no speakers, no AC, the 2.5L 4cylinder with a 5 speed manual and a soft top. I spent a good amount of time wheeling that thing around my parent's house in norther California and was able to almost drive all the way to my parent's house in that huge snow storm in the early 1990's (I got stopped about 200 yards short when the snow was higher than the hood and I could only afford 1 set of snow chains.)
Jeeps are very capable offroaders even in base trim.
@@johnmathias4871they absolutely are. That base wrangler tfl just bought with a small spacer lift and some good tires would do any 4 or 5 rated trail, easy.
There's a crash test video where it showed the front wheel roll under the Jeep and caused the Jeep to flip before they added that bracket.
so it's a wheel interceptor bracket? don't think a well designed suspension needs that ...
I bought a 2023 Welfare Edition Jeep Wrangler Sport 2 door with the soft top. I even started a YT page (BasicJeepDude) and IG page (BasicJeepDude). I LOVE the base model much more than the upper trims. I wanted manual windows, manual locks, etc because those things won't break. It reminds me of the older Jeep models - I have fond memories of the older models.
Looking forward to seeing Bill the wrangler on the channel! My suggestion? Stay small tires and just get off road knobby treads. Put some decent rock rails on it. Then go play. Next, add a sway bar disconnect kit. Now you’ve got a good anywhere Jeep that won’t beat you up in town. I found 3 cheap wranglers. $36,985. With v6 auto and soft top
I purchased a 2024 2 door Sport with the only option being the automatic transmission. Run it with the doors off in safari mode and love it. Way more unique than all the 4 door rubicons I see around town.
You guys should do a 2 door comparison with a 2 door Bronco and your Defender. All together off road. 😊
I always forget how nice the new Wranglers look in Blue

1. Poor Andre lol. Feel bad for ya.
2. $4500 for the automatic is highway robbery!!
That was always so weird. No one charges that for an auto. No longer an issue since you can't get the V6 and auto for 2025.

First off, congrats on getting hitched. However, I love my 2-door WHITE 2024 Rubicon X. White is the way to go for exploring hot desert trails.
Wrangler prices have gotten way out of hand over the last 5-6 years. They constantly increase the option prices including the automatic trans for $4500. And Stellantis wonders why their vehicles are piling up on dealer lots.
Yeah, a lot of these 2024 jeeps will be on the lots in 2026 at this rate.
Along with everything else… Bidenomics for ya..
2025 the Jeep cold air intake option jumps from $595 to $1295! That's crazy money for an intake tube and a filter
That piece of steel in the passenger wheel well is to prevent the tire from entering the cabin in a front end collision. Crash testing was indicating that the tire was entering the foot well in a collison.
This is correct. If you look at a lot a vehicles they have added all kinds of bars and plates to pass the offset impact tests. Unless they are actually in the way it's best to leave them alone. An insurance company could use their removal as a reason to deny a claim.
Im excited for this series! If any modifications are done, sway bar quick disconnects is all you need to be super capable.

My 2016 Wrangler Sport was $23,500. The salesman, who was an Afghan vet, said all Wranglers are the same and anything you can get on the expensive models you can build much cheaper onto a Sport Wrangler just by purchases in the parts dept. I ordered mine through the dealer since they didn't have the color (Firecracker) I wanted. You can still order a base Jeep if the dealer doesn't have one. They take two weeks to get. I have the six speed stick and love it.
Is the $4500 automatic transmission really an option? Not when there's no other transmission available. The cheap jeep should be $30,000 out the door.
I would think you’d be pretty close to that with a Softtop and a stick shift. There was a dealer in socal selling manual softtop gladiators for 26k last year
WOW! This is the kind of base model Wrangler that I like. It only needs a 2" lift ant 31" tires. Lots of fun and even more smiles! I bought my 2002 TJ Sport soft top without automatic transmission and love it.
This makes me feel pretty good about the Willys we got. Not too much more, and we have the goodies like the suspension, 33" tires and aluminum wheels plus the factory rear locker. And the convenience items like power windows/mirrors, heated seats, auto climate, etc. I don't think the manual windows would bother me if were just a real key and not having to carry that behemoth fob around. The manual mirrors are inconvenient when you have different drivers who want to adjust them.
My parents had manual windows in their cars years ago. I am impressed that you bought a nice base model Jeep at an affordable price where you can customize it yourself. Best of luck with it.
Love that you're doing this. Looking forward to watching where it goes!
Thanks so much!
I have a 1966 cj5a and it's basically an antique farm tractor that can go 70mph. But, that simplicity is why I love it.
base model is the best .steel wheel are for real off road 😁
I'm sure it's been mentioned by now, but none of them come with the engine covers since 2022, and yes, the rollover shield can be removed, but it's not exactly easy. You'll have to cut the bolts.
I recently bought a '24 Willys 2-door in Hydro Blue with the manual. If I could have found a Sport in that colour, I might have bought it. But I would really miss the heated seats and steering wheel, LED headlights, and power locks. The Willys package adds a lot to the sticker, but it is a pretty good value (Rubicon shocks, 4.10 gears, 33" tires, rock rails, rear locking diff, aux switches/trailer tow package, tall fenders). I don't plan on doing serious off-roading, so it is overkill for me, but it sure looks the business.
Oh, cool. We have almost the identical Jeep but in an auto. Love the hydro blue. I couldn't find any 2 doors with a manual. How do you like the manual? We did drive a 4 door manual. I thought it was pretty good. It was weird that I had no place for my foot left of the clutch. But I think I could have gotten used to that. My wife wouldn't drive the manual though, so the auto works better for us so she will drive it.
@@chriscamero2874 the manual is fine! I owned a TJ and drove several JKs and the JL’s is much more precise and refined, albeit less mechanical. I got used to the lack of dead pedal pretty quickly. The knob feels weird, and heel-and-toe isn’t the easiest, but if I want a great manual experience I’ll hop into my Miata. Our Jeep was one of the small handful of manuals available in the province of Ontario, with the rest being black Sports.
@@boffam00 Oh, you have a Miata? You are my god. Which generation do you have? I haven't taken the plunge yet into a Miata, but I do respect the heck out of them. Just amazing. I am on my second BRZ which gets me something close.
@@chriscamero2874 lol ND. Just a sensational car. BRZ is close and is way more practical.
@@boffam00 Yes, ND's are pretty amazing. So glad Mazda has committed to keeping that car great. The BRZ feels roomier in the front. A little more elbow room. Visibility is fantastic. My new one only has 300 miles so far, so I've not opened it up yet. I'm looking forward to that. I had a 16 before, so the new one should have better power. But, yes, the Miata and the BRZ/86 are the sports cars we should all drive. Good performance but not crazy power for the street. Nice and tidy in size as well.
I was a dealer employee in 93, and I bought mine used, a 1989 with hardtop, 4.2 Six and add-on air. Luxury! The great majority of YJ's at the time came just like this. Steel wheels, mostly soft top but the occasional full doors and top, 2.5 motor, some didn't even have rear seats or carpet. just wonderful little trucks, usually priced about $11,500. It was a good time to be alive.

Any new vehicle is not cheap anymore. That’s why I buy five years old at least.
But I would take that jeep over a side by side with a cab that costs about the same any day.
We paid around $50k for a Rubicon X manual in Boulder a little over a month ago, and that was without aggressive negotiation. We’re very happy. Almost 4,000 miles so far
I CAN'T WAIT to see where you go with this Jeep. I just bought a base 2 door soft top during the Labor Day weekend. It was discounted $8k from MSRP, to $26.6. At that price it was a no-brainer for me. I already treated it to a simple, 2.5" spacer lift and 35" BFGs on 17x9 Fuel Vectors. The offset is -12 mm and the stance is perfect. I'm in it for just over $30k, paid cash for everything and don't have a payment. I'd rather have this with no payment over a Rubicon with the same amount down and a $500 payment. The base Wrangler is a steal right now!
Any options? AC?
@@djkenny1202 AC is standard in the 2024s. It came as a basic soft top with a manual transmission. Only options were the Granite Crystal paint - they upcharge for most paint other than white - and rubber floor mats.
@@michaelchiara1781 25k might be option on a white one? It’s getting closer to what I could wrap my head around. Hows the manual? Is stock radio Okay?
@@djkenny1202 Maybe - it depends on the dealer... I found mine by watching Cargurus, and sorting jeeps by price nationwide (Currently, there's a white on in Port Arthur, TX, advertised at $26,052). The one I bought happened to come up, I called the dealer to verify the price was truly the price (nothing stupid, like "unremoveable" ant-theft GPS tracking), and told them I'd be there the same day to buy it. The dealer I bought from is about an hour-and-a-half drive away. The manual is fine, 6th gear is a little too tall, though. You won't maintain freeway speed going up hill. The radio is just "okay", nothing spectacular, but it's a Jeep.
Smart move Tommy! Get rid of a car note and get the car you want via TFL. Makes total sense. 🙌🏽
Pentastar reliability? Have they solved the rocker arm failures, oil cooler leaks and early radiator failures?
No. Gladiator groups are full of people with multiple engine failures before 100k (often dealing with top end issues well under 50k miles).
lately theyve cut down on it, but they STILL have the issues
It's not that the problems are fixed. It's that they're well documented, mechanics know how to fix them, parts are available, and owners are aware of them and budget for them. But no the Pentastar V6 is not reliable by modern standards.

With the auto you're also avoiding the numerious clutch recalls Stellantis has had. The ZF design 8 speed auto is one of the best autos out there. However $4500 for it is criminal!
Best bang for buck mods in a 2 door JL sport would be a basic 2 or 3 inch lift, 285/75R17 MT tyres, quick disconnect sway bar links, and a lunchbox locker in the front. Oh and some cheap rock rails

@@is6566I’m in a 4 door Sport with the 6 speed on 35s and 4.88 gears and yeah, the 3.45 gears are fine on the 8 speed automatic but with the 6 speed it’s way undergeared. Anything bigger than the standard size tires that come on it would require 3.73 at least, if not 4.10s gears. I almost never got to 6th gear when on the stock all seasons unless I was going over 70 mph, and once I put 33s on it, 6th gear went away entirely. When I put 35s on, 5th gear went away as well. I love, love, love your Cheap Jeeps series though out the years.
I had an ‘18 Sport JLU with the 3.6L/6M. Hard top, limited slip diff, & off-road tires were my only options. I replaced the front rotors at 10K miles. Galvanic corrosion on the hinges. The paint was not adhering to the frame welds & they were rusting. Every few months there would be a loud POP through the speakers & my radio would reset. It had 3.45 gearing & didn’t have any low-end torque. Clutches were apparently exploding. I both loved it & hated it.
I have a 2023 Jeep Wrangler Willys with the manual. They solved the problem of the overheating clutch: by removing the OEM transmission skid plate! I found this out when I went to install an aftermarket skid plate.
I can’t get enough of these two doors. I think everyone should have one.
I love the concept of this series. the stock wrangler is PLENTY capable for most people's bravery. most of people's "modifications" are just for show to look tough. And many peoples modifications even make it worse!
I have owned a 2016 2 door sport for the last 5 years and it now has almost 90,000 miles and I’ve only replaced tires once and only needed one repair. @@Offshore1977Gladiator Rubicon. You know, the pre-2006s were the TJs, then you had the JKs, then the JLs. The Gladiators have been dubbed the “JT” (for “Jeep Truck” maybe?) and the R is short for “Rubicon.”
@@backwoodstherapy got it.
Looking forward to seeing this over time as you test/mod. I have a 2017 Wrangler Rubicon Recon Unlimited w/3.6L and it was as hard loaded as you could get (every option). I bought it new for $36K. This bone stock 2 dr cost the same 7 years later. WOW!
DON'T LIFT IT!
High clearance fenders for 35" tires and front bumper, rock rails, and go Conquer trails!
Absolutely agree !!!
They should have someone with a "height challenged" significant other give them an opinion on the ease of entry/exit. The door pillar mounted handles are nice, but my wife thinks the old Rubicon handles (that hung from the roll cage bars) were more useful for her.
i really like these kinds of series...also...love that blue...and congrats to tom and his bride!
Good 33" tires and a small 2-3" lift would make it good offroad.
Even a 1.5” puck spacer and some 285/75r17s would make a world of difference off road. I rocked a similar setup for a couple years on my sport with no other mods and did some trails on the rougher end of 4/10 and it did great.
I agree with him 100% on the gearing of the manual transmission. I have a 2023 Jeep Willys with the 3.6 and a manual transmission. If you are cruising on a flat highway at 70mph, the 5th gear of the transmission will be only be putting out 2K of rpms. I can't ever imagine being able to use the 6th gear.
i agree the 6th gear is not needed, my 95 wrangler 5 speed is much more fun to drive.
The Willys package included a rear limited slip, which it appears is missing on the new one, and maybe the tow package?
Excited for another Wrangler series! Looking forward to some comparisons on and off road to the base Defender.
🤣 "HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED"....BUT, NOT FIXED! AT 3:43~
As an owner of a very basic 2001 Wrangler Sport, I am looking forward to seeing this new series and how the new "cheap" Jeep does.
You did the jeep. Why not to the big bend bronco.
If they get another Bronco, it should be a two door seven speed Sasquatch.
Can’t wait for this series! You guys are driving my favorite color and the color I have on my Gladiator. Just had to have my rear defrost solder back on to my back hardtop window. My 5th warranty issue in 4 years. Still love my Gladiator though!
$35k for a $25k Wrangler and Stelantis wonders why sales are slow not even considering Stelantis Jeep reliability decline.
I’m very excited to see another “cheap” jeep series and look forward to the upcoming comparisons and off road videos!
NO DUCKS!!!!!!!
NO
DUCKS
What's with the duck trend? I don't get it
@@volvo09 There’s a cutesy history to it, but I’m with you. I appreciate getting/giving to show appreciation of a Jeep, but a sure as heck will not display a dash lined up with these things.
Go Beavs! 🦫
I own a 2024 gladiator sport and I honestly love the lack of options. Less stuff to break but it retains the 4x4, solid axles, nice touch screen, and has a huge aftermarket. Plus it was discounted 10k so I paid 34k.
A crap price for that vehicle - Jeep rebates of 5-10K are mandatory to get to a somewhat competitive price.
2020 Gladiator Sport owner here. Upgraded tires (same size) and added rock rails. Off-roads just fine for me. I don't miss power windows. The lack of power doors is just mildly annoying.
You're not wrong about the manual. Horrible transmission. I loved the feel of the JK manual, but it was a piece of garbage for other reasons. Horribly manuals since the AX-15.
Why you think the JK 6-speed was garbage?
@@jspencerg A large number of them pop out of gear - especially first. Jeep had a TSB about it for a number of years, but really it was all of them. And the throw out bearings and spring have a tendency to fail prematurely as well. I have a '16 with 60k and from 40k I need to hold it in 1st when first setting off to keep it from popping out.
@@brendanberry6263 That sucks. My 2014 jku Rubicon 6 speed is holding up well. I do have to be firm with the shifts, as I've had shift fail, rarely though.
Tommy, i couldn't agree with you more! I had a 2019 Jeep Wrangler Sport Manual and I also didn't like that transmission at all. Like you said, 1st and 6th ratios were way off. Constantly changing gears on the highway and grinding the clutch off road. I have a Bronco Badlands with the 7 speed manual with 4.7 axle and I'm loving it. Completely different shift feel and power delivery. The crawler gear in 4L is incredible.
the borg warner T5 ratios are so much better
I have a 2014 JK that I paid about 40,000 (Canadian) - which seemed very high at the time. Those US prices would translate to 70,000 CAD. Forget it.
We Canadians are always get ripped off,$70000 for a little jeep is insane
I bought a 2 door Sport for 25k tax in here in Quebec in 2014. It's been great so far with only rear brakes and oil changes. At today's prices I'm keeping my 2014 for many more years.
I got no frills JL and love it.. like having my favorite 2007 Wrangler.. but more comfortable and nice screen and Apple play. Perfect.. I can roll the windows downs without having to turn it on.. 💯💯👍🏼
Anyone paying more than $40k for a Stellantis product shouldn't be allowed to vote.
Kinda of a self aptitude test 😂
@@nothingtoseaheardammit Spoken like a true liberal!🤣
@@rodjones812What a rich reply…🤡
Hi we saw you drove up in a 60k Jeep. You can’t vote but we do have a timeshare you might like
In Europe average Wrangler price it is 85k dolar for short and 117k dolar for long. All its base model.
Stelantis want use 1.4 tjet in Wrangler....and 0.9 MultiAir in Compass and Tenegade..... Idiots forom Stelantis....
I love this purchase. Look forward to more videos. Love the 3.6 in my JGC 2018 Laredo 4*4. 6 years and only 27,000 miles have been flawless. 25 mpg on the highway at 70 mph with air on! 30 mpg at 55 mph. Plenty of power. Could use a little more torque. Curious how the open diffs will handle the off-road. Definitely do a mpg run. Love the color too!
4:38 😩 I hate how Andre slams the hoods on all the new vehicles. It wasn’t even necessary on this jeep. 😢
Yep, it puts pressure on the latch and can eventually move it. Cringe stuff.
SO stoked that you guys have a cheap Jeep back in the lineup!! Can't wait to see the content. 🤞
Those jeeps should and will be 20k again soon.
❤ absolutely incredible I’m so happy tommy is getting back to his roots of Jeep base wrangler base models. After Alex bought his. Now any issues you and him can fix together. Yay. Brotherly togetherness. And a road trip. In them. Wait. Omg I know exactly the series. Lmao it’s going to be absolutely hilarious. Kase Alex and tommy. Good job mr co ceo tommy. Your so brilliant.
I almost ditched my Titan for a Gladiator. So glad I didn’t do that lol🙏🏽
Look forward to seeing reviews for a base as is. No one ever does that for any vehicle. Huge advantage when you can buy. Keep up your great vids
Not worth the price…..
So glad you guys did this. I love my 392, but a 2dr in my opinion is a real Jeep. We’ve own my 1966 CJ-5 since 1982.
Pentastar may be old but still has plenty of issues.
Go on…?
