SKATE HACKS: HOW TO BAIL SAFELY ON STAIRS & GAPS

- SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE SKATE HACKS! Today we're going over how to basically crash safely on a skateboard - specifically when skating stairs/gaps/drops. Chances are, you'll be spending most of your time falling; much more than landing tricks when you first start skateboarding and learning how to skate stairs. The best way to minimize your injuries during this time is by bailing SAFELY, which my friends and I demonstrate in the video. Thanks for watching!
Something important you didn't cover in bad bails versus good bails is the weight on the toes vs. heel. If possible, more weight should be given to the front of your foot to spring off of and roll over. Landing straight to your heels will mess your feet up quick, even with quality shoes and insoles
Kevin Ryan landing on toes=Rolled ankle
@@AH-jj8sd nope. More weight on your toes allows you to be more responsive and not your ankle role your ankle as reasily
@@AH-jj8sd also, landing on the mid to front region of your foot allows you to spring off of them and roll and channel the impact away from the rest of your body
Landing on the toes has led to so many of my sprained ankles
wouldve been great to see the tricks landed at the end :(
nah don't give kids false hope
@@dumb_as_rocks anahahah right
Damn I was expecting them at the end as well😆. Noice info tho🤙
when you fall correctly if feels so good... like you could've just slammed you face into the concrete but instead you roll out of it and end up unharmed
Nice use of throw away footy dude!
i’ve literally kickflipped that same 4 block in this video
Orly
@Maxim What I like to do while doing tricks off of stairs or gaps is I like to think it’s just a normal ollie or kickflip or whatever trick i’m doing and not worrying about what happens. Helps a lot!
@Maxim how bout now?
Can't tell you how important learning how to bail is. Been skateboarding for 14 years, rolled both my ankles multiple times, and had some bad ones that put me out of the game for awhile. It is SOOO important to learn how to do this correctly early on
sometimes you have to roll your ankles cuz you just can't avoid it.
Come Dance For Lucifer that happens to my 3 month ago, since then I’m really afraid skating stairs
you dont know how much all of us needed this video, patreon?
Yesterday i popsickled when i tried kicking out 👍
Ian Dutter Skateboarding bro yesterday had my first popsicle and then got my second. THEY SUCK
The third time feels amazing
I hate that
it feels good for girls
Nice
This was extremely helpful to me since I’m interested in starting to go bigger than just 4 stairs 🤙 thanks
Any chance of seeing makes of flip & tre flip over the Vans sign? Tries looked incredible
check andy anderson in this skatepark, he did it
Awesome tutorial!!! This will help alot of people with their bails.. and remember, the more u practice the more it becomes a part of one’s “subconscious..” and the body will start to do do these moves without thought.
Yop
Ay bro thankyou so much for your work, got back into skating after years, changed up my whole game
Keep it up bro 🎉
A topic that most people don't even cover! Thanks!
good informative vid. Nice job homie! u r right this shit is never discussed and it is just as important to know how to properly evacuate a shitty situation. Thanks again
Yesss a new skate hacks video, love this channel!! 👍😄
This was one of the best bail vids ive seen explained super clearly 👌🏻awesome
0:31 my ankle hurt watching that one. My worst roll came from a bail for a varial heel down a 5 stair, it looked just like that. He was lucky there
Good video but I think it’s also important to note the back of the head is super vulnerable when turning back like that, especially on a big gap. Would love to hear ways to prevent this maybe a chin tuck? I’m not sure
Yes they teach to tuck your chin when falling on karate so you dont hit your head
Can you make a how to bail video for rails? Great vid!
to me
1.dont try sth too crazy like trick you have never tried down any set
before down a 8 stair or more.
2. make your board slightly tighter put your front foot slightly higher to prevent losing balance right before you hit the set.
if over 8 stairs wear 2 layers of insoles
3. dont try anything nollie or fakie(much higher chances of getting wiped out )if you can replace it w a rg/ss trick that is just as cool
Nothing better than a fakie 3 flip down something though lol
Don't try nollie or fakie? You must suck at skating then
@@jacksamunster4407 btw fakie tre or fakie hardflip is easier than to fakie flip down stuff
Awesome stuff as always man. Could you do a video on how to concentrate on a trick and how to analyze ones perfomance?
Start recording yourself.
post the trey over the vans logo if you landed, butter
Rocking those pro Chima twos
i appreciate this level of detail because i find skaters a bit like magicians, they don't like to discuss their methods, so many channels that are supposed to be about learning actually assume the viewer "just knows" a lot of things. also i think a for lot of particularly male skaters skating is so second nature that they can't really articulate what they're doing or any rationale, they just do it as an act of the body. i tend to visualize and understand stuff pretty differently from dudes so sometimes i just feel like... i gotta figure out stuff on my own. anyway thanks for thinking differently.
Pfft women
cheers pal! 🌈
Forgot to say when you fall backwards not to catch your self with your wrists, try to just take it because you can easily snap your wrists.
Notice how these guys when their is enough momentum land on their back. In that motion there is a chance that you can snap your head back and hit your noggin. I started wearing a helmet and it gives me more confidence when I hit stairs. I’m pretty good so I got no shame in my game and if more pros wore helmets it would be cool . I’m 23 been wearing a helmet for a year been skating since I was 14
I really gotta learn how to kickout properly cuss yesterday I tried a kickflip over a red barrier with a kicker but leaned too much backwards and I landed with all my body weight on the tail and it came right back to my face and had to go to the hospital for stitches
Keep going your helping me out with everything cheers
I never see people skate the 4 block at poods, great video.
If you dont have that inner bear gryls,
You need this video
Yesterday I rolled my ankle at a 5 stair :( now I will have a break from skateboarding
Simple and good tips🤙
Is there anyway to prevent ankle sprains? It sucks sometimes even for a simple flat trick (fakie flip for example) I just sprain my ankle. Some times a couple rest days do the tricks, sometimes two months..
Whats this park? Its awesome!
Nice vid. So I see Van's in Huntington Beach, can you tell me what the other spot is please.
The other one is Encinitas skate plaza, commonly known as “Poods Park”
yesterday i sprain my ankle with a flat ground kickflip in the middle of a warm up... for some reason it just made me realize im too old to do this the way i used to, i guess from now on i must at least wear a helmet.
dude you sprained your ankle, how a helmet gonna help with that? I've never hit my head while skateboarding, while legs do suffer, there's not much you can do about it.
@@Fanaz10 im having a hars time with my family giving me endless complaints that i will end up dead from a head trauma while skateboarding... So i figured out to at least keep my head safe you know?.
great video. what park is this?
Broke my arm skating a 4 stair but back at it and wanted to watch this before it.🙏
Did you get it
I got it down a different set so far biggest set was a 7 I just don’t like stairs cuz my trucks bend easy lol
Should of saw this before I Ollied the 4 block
I wonder how much pain I could have avoided learning to skate years ago if RUclips existed back then. You've got a whole community of people trying to help you. Me and my friends would learn tricks and never help each other out on how to do them because we wanted to give them letters the next time we played S.K.A.T.E. lol.
@@N0tARapp3r ahahah skater are fakers
Great guidance with the slomo 🙏
Thanks bro
Try that on street! Is easy to bail like that on skateparks
I'm here because on my first try down a 4 stair yesterday I jammed my toe and now its swollen and purple. I was hoping to learn to bail a bit better even more than landing the ollie... I might actually just practice doing an ollie and kicking my board away on purpose...
Thanks dude!
Did he get the vheel tho??
Cool video. What park is this? It is very sick.
I’m pretty sure the 1st one is Encinitas in San Diego
Very helpful
Just ate it and got mad road rash and disalligned my wrist. I need a smooth park like this
Good job
make a fs lipslide tutorial ?
Guys its also how you squat. 🤣🤣😆 Your butt muscles does most of the bending.......your legs don't move so much. Think about it what supports you bending. Knees+butt muscle=power. If you also get sore Epsom salt is what i use to recover from sores and aches.
Needs to do a vid on inward heels
make sure you never ever try to stop the fall with your hands. sometimes this is something that comes automatically...
I'm scared of skating drops gaps stairs generally flipping stuff because I usually ankle roll, I suffer with not being able to see it coming
I did mma so whenever I’m bailing I go into a roll and never get hurt just a few scratches
I always bail like that first one. Just go to your butt and slide and always keep your head/neck up so you don't smack your head. The back pockets on my pants are always shredded up from it tho
Don't skate with backpacks on. I would have been able to roll out of the bail that broke my elbow but I had my guitar bag on and it made me go straight into the ground on my elbow. I heard the bone snap and I'll never forget that sound. Now every time I'm on my board I hear the snapping sound echoing in the back of my head and it makes me hesitate a lot when I should be committing. I have 10 screws and a 4 inch plate in my body now all because I had something on my back when I was skating around town..
my left foot doesn’t bail i can only get my right foot to. how do i fix this?
What about handrails?
Paul Skate ya that’d be useful
Yea it would be
Glad I saw this video went down to five stair tried hard flipping it and I put my arms out behind me and I screwed up my wrist sadly it's too late though. 😭
Luckily not my legs though
Ollie tips and how to make it more easy consistent and higher
Practice
How do u bail out of rails ?
What park is this
One is Van's skatepark in Huntington Beach CA..... the other I would like to know aswell.
been skating like 8 years and i can say i didnt know some of this it helps
In cali with it!!
I wish i paid more attention to this because right now my back is all fucked up..
WHY U DIDNT UPLOAD THIS VIDEO 2 DAYS AGOOOO ( I ROLLED MY ANKLE WHILE SKATING 4 STAIRS )
Haven't hacked time travel yet. Get well soon!
Rolled mine doing a 5 block about 4 weeks ago, haven't been able to even step on my board since :(
@@sketchliing i hope u will get better soon
Can we all know how to bail safely on (hand) rail & (down) ledge ?
It will be great
damn bro, I fell very heavily on the hand and on the brush, my hand was very bent out, the whole arm hurts. Saves that the hands are a little strong and bones.
Falling on asphalt and rough surfaces is very painful. How to fall? not get to slide.
herrniemand it’s called rolling
Ayy my park!
2:32 is 100% perfect bail technique
the nashville heads 🥺
Yo those one foot on the board bails is a board snapper od
What about where to look? Cus I always had issues with not knowing if I was gonna land on my board cus I was focusing on where Im going. Does it change from the stairs to the handrail?
I keep thinking of this 9 stair I skated with friends back in the day. They were hittin the hand rail and I did the 9 stair like 2nd try with a lot of extra room, but the rail was terrifying to me.
Yoo Joseph and cmod!
Who else noticed the park with the 4block in skater xl
Are u at poods in Encinitas
No shit
rolling can redirect the energy a lot more than sliding. & also less likely to hit your head if you stick to the ground instead of sliding. skating stairs & qp/bank gaps at a skatepark is so cringe tho lol
Skating stairs at a park isn't really that cringe. They're bust level is ZERO. No cops to say get off the stairs.
808 Bassquait to each their own ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
How is that cringe, it's one of the only ways to get good at skating stairs
if you don’t get why it is cringe i dont think i will be able to explain it. big papi
but maybe i am just biased growing up in southern california where we have stairs every where. maybe you are from some little ass town with dirt roads & no shopping centers or schools ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@tweekedmobb1789 yes, where i have no stairs where I live, and if i am going ton drive to a spot it might as well be a park where they have nice ledges as well
2:39 would’ve been the worst primo of 2019
Wait I know where you are at that location
Kids. Just watch John Cardiel!
Who else knows this park from skater XL
Why are all of these clips in slow motion? I want to see what it actually looks like to take the impact and see them slam into the ground. I don't want to see them majestically float onto the pavement at a slow speed and sliding away. That doesn't give me a sense on what the impact actually looks like.
It’s majestic and fast. You’ll be ok
How do u bail safely when trying to Ollie?
U dont bail by ollies
Get really good at ollies
How to be more safety on stairs
Wear a helmet
Darin306 looks like you didn’t wear a helmet
oh shit oh fuck i now broke my foot, what do I do? Can I use the helmet that didn't even get scratched to fix it!?
jokes aside, helmets are important but this is to be more comfortable while doing drops and avoid injury in other body parts
A helmet doesn’t mean you can’t die plus you have more of a risk of breaking your limbs and feet than you do your head on this stuff.
Usually its people that have never skated that say wear a helmet
Ankle and wrist injuries are way more common than head injuries
My freind tried to Ollie a 10 stair for the second time and first try stuck it but then basically just died
what happened to him
@@brianaz3587 he died he went to hospital and died to death
I WAS HERE AT POODS
Ay my ground at my park if you land like that you gonna be buying new pants everyday
I just don’t bail
Dems Nashville boys.
Wtf this is the skater xl map
yeah you do know it was a real place right
man you guys can just slide on the concrete my park has smooth concrete but if i slide like that on my ass im 100% ripping my pants and scraping myself
really? Damn the mainstream has achieved too many and different sinapsis on falling down
joesepph rips ❌🧢😔🙏🏼
Poods yayy lol
All you young wolfs don't really know after you hit 30. Your knees don't like this crap. Stick to the ground moves. Eat right. Then you can continue like me. I am old but I have beaten 3 people in a game of skate. Because youngster run there mouth at me. I skate a 7.5 and they made fun of that so I beat all 3 in a game of skate. Fish oil TABLETS+ soup+ MEAT help after you skate 5 hours FOR BETTER CONTINUES. I READ ONLINE IT LUBES UP YOUR JOINTS LIKE A YOUNGSTER. IF YOU DONT LIKE THAT FISH OIL....THEN MANGO BANNA SMOOTHIE FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO ENJOY SWEET THINGS. AND ANY KIND OF SANDWICH....WATER. YOUNG PUPS
Too late, I'm 32 now and can't skate for an hour without limping for a week. 😂
I'm 46. Went skating about a month ago. Just rolling around, trying to land kickflips (note, 'trying' ) and acid dropping off a step-high platform. My legs and back were so stiff and sore it hurt just to move around - and none of this was from slamming either.
Poods
I don't think sliding on your butt is good advice for anywhere that isn't the berrics lol. Learn how to roll over your shoulder
Just do everything to tail on the last step or the edge of the gap. DUH!
