Hospital Hero Tom Umstead, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta

Tom Umstead, or “Mr. Tom” as he is affectionately known around Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, has been a volunteer for the past 25-plus years. His introduction to the great care provided by Children’s was after he visited his 2-year-old grandson in the emergency room. Mr. Tom wanted to thank the staff somehow and decided to do an impromptu donut delivery to the emergency department staff. The rest is history. In 2007, he became an official volunteer for Children’s, expanding beyond the ED and serving multiple floors of Scottish Rite.
