I think people concerned about Batman being too unhinged and not methodical like he usually is don't need to worry too much. Bruce hasn't yet worked out the line between his dual identity and so he has a lot of room to grow, hence why they went with a story set in his second year of Batman. He's supposed to be rough around the edges in this movie as it will allow us to actually go on a journey with his character, becoming the more controlled hero we know.
Totally agree. Glad to see other people point this out. I know that I personally did not care very much when I heard they were making ANOTHER Batman movie, until I heard they were trying to do something actually different... And “different” doesn’t just mean a unique aesthetic, we need a new/fresh perspective on this guy. A mean Batman who is still working things out sounds/looks great so far… Really think about what it would truly take for someone to actually dress up like a bat and look for criminals to brawl with… That person would either have to be crazy, or he’d have to have some kind of true rage in his heart (for criminals). I like the idea of watching him navigate that rage and figure out how to hone it.
Corey here ( the guy in the red hat): Totally! I’m very excited to see the more passionate side of of a younger Batman and I hope that came across clear in the video. The only concern I had was being torn between multiple villains and splitting the story too much, but as it’s been pointed out; Riddler has most of the spotlight here so my worries were put to rest.
@@NerdOnThePodcast yeah that's always a concern of mine when we hear about a bunch of villains for a singular movie. As you've said though, from what has been said it sounds like Penguin is mostly a side character and Riddler is centre stage for be movie
The thing most regular audiences don’t realize is that he is very unhinged- he sees himself as Batman, not as Bruce Wayne. The latter is his secret identity if you will. Everything he does in public outside the suit is an act, from his attitude down to his “alcoholic” beverages which are more often than not ginger ale or sparkling cider. One could argue Wayne is as unhinged as his enemies.
I get the part about walking through gunfire, but they kind of addressed that in the trailer... See the shot of him with bruises all over his body and arms? Kevlar can keep bullets from reaching your body, but you still take a pounding. Physics is not kind to the one wearing the armor that stops the bullet. He's taking a beating to put fear into the criminals - fear that he can't be killed. My guess is that if we get the full trilogy Pattinson is under contract for that we'll see him outgrow this stage - learn to become more mature, and to not take such a pounding. The Batman we see here is the base from which to grow the more refined, calculating Batman as he ages.
It makes sense that this batman can walk through gun fire because he LITERALLY is in his 1 year and like 6 months of being batman, he's gonna need to be bulletproof if it means it will substitute his lack of experience in fights. Just like his hand taser, everything has to be more accessible for him.
Hmm yeah that's facts. My theory is, that it's because he's more reckless. He's substituting his stealth (later iteration costume), for pure fear (bulletproof armor). I also think that this version of batman isn't scared of being hurt. He's going into fights guns blazing, not really with a lot of strategy. He's a bruiser, a pure revenge- driven vigilante. He's gonna be torn in two ways. I think he's gonna be more physical against the Penguin, Falcone, and the street gangs, and more intellectual against the Riddler, who's gonna push him to his mental limits. Alfred looks dope. Catwoman looks dope. The Batwhip looks dope. This movie is gonna be fire.
It's early in his career he's inexperienced he's not yet the symbol that Gotham needs also this movie would be a deep dive in Bruce Wayne's psyche and his duality.
Them talking about how the villans are supposed to fear Batman, Someone says the lines, "When that light hits the sky, it's not just a call.....It's a Warning", meaning that all criminals in the night are warned that He is out and could take them out.
I didn’t get Wonder Woman vibes: if anything I get the gothic vibes from Burton’s films. Gotham has a personality again, which is something that I feel the Nolan films lacked (as much as I liked them, only the narrows from Batman Begins felt like ‘gotham’.)
I love the fact it's taking elements from the Arkham games. Like the previous versions of Batman criminals know who he is and they knew what he is, this one for me it seems like they are terrified of him can't wait to see what Matt Reeves brings to this universe and I honestly believe his going to bring something were going to love
It definitely seems like Riddler will be the primary antagonist of the movie with Penguin being very much a side villain. I also love that we’ve barely seen any Riddler stuff in the trailers, I love the fact that they’re keeping us in the dark about what his plan/motivation is. Seems like 90% of movies give away the whole plot in the trailer so it’s a nice change of pace.
6:39 Makes sense, understand your concern. I know in the Arkham origins prequel to the Arkham series he had a much more padded and reinforced suit. I like to think that because he is inexperienced compared to most iterations, that he is gonna get shot in his early years so he is gonna need a suit that can keep up with his recklessness. That is until he gets older and therefore gets a more traditional suit design to symbolize confidence and forethought. Plus we see he's got a good amount of scar's to reflect on so clearly that suit ain't exactly superman material.
@@NerdOnThePodcast Thank you. I hope maybe they give a reason for why he would do that in the potential trilogy. Like as fans we are gonna love a more classic look. But for a audience that is confined to the movies will be like "Damn that last suit was OP, why the hell would he do that?" So maybe giving an explanation along the lines of being faster or lighter and stealth perks, just to make it make sense without just relying on the audience to catch the symbolism.
We meant... uh... second trailer ever, yeah... that's what we meant! haha jk. Thank you, we'll correct ourselves in future videos. Thanks for the watch!
Yup! As we replied in another comment, and as we mentioned we do in the video, we went back and watched with captions. We def misheard that the first time around haha 😂
I imagine Penguin will be a major part of the conspiracy that the Riddler is exposing. I don't think he will be 'The Penguin' yet, but more of a mob boss who rivals Falcone
People born in 2000 are 21... Some people think Tim Burton should direct a Batman movie... it's a wild world when people who don't know a lot about Batman post their less informed opinions about Batman... that being said the stylized Gotham is a welcomed return!

Honestly? Im hoping for a Seven meets Batman movie and that hopefully Arkham is utilized more so the villains like Penguin and Riddler can return later on if possible rather than just get killed off until we get another reboot
Corey here! Something I really missed in a lot of the live action ones were their 'lack' or Arkham. Getting to explore it in the games was so nice, would live to see that play out on the live screen.

Great breakdown. Totally having this as headcanon until the movie comes out!
This is year 2 batman
Penguin is only in this film for 20mins apparently, it's Riddler who is the main villain. Penguin will play a bigger role in the 2nd film.
Ok, gotcha. Kinda glad to hear it won’t be torn.
Well 20 mins is quite a long time scenes-wise.

Yes! Like Corey mentioned, breathing new life into Gotham and returning to the highly stylized cityscape is something we’re very excited about!
Catwoman did have a woollen cap turned into a mask when Batman interrupted her breaking into the safe in the first trailer.
Apparently he gives himself a shot of adrenaline before that scene where he walked through all those bullets.
Batman looks absolutely feral in this and I love it.
We’re here for it!
Alfred 100% said “dear god” just sounded muffled
