I don’t think they were underrated. I think they got caught up in a logjam of phenomenal music being produced and there wasn’t enough time for everyone to get a chance to hear them.
These guys INVENTED rock n roll poses while onstage! I became a fan in 1975, & still listen to Strangers in the Night every time I get in my car. If Schenker could've overcome his demons & realized UFO was the best gig he'd ever have, & stayed with them, imagine all the great stuff they could've done.
MY two faves were Phenomenon and Force it. I worked setting there there show and was a very young union steward in a theater. Their stage manager hit me up as soon as he got there and all day. He had a bottle of blow around his neck on one chain and a small spoon in the other. I'm a guitarist and when the show was over he asked me if I would go to Michaels dressing rooms and get the guitars and his practice amps. I open the door and walked in after a knock. He was in there. It was decent sized room. About 18 x 18 foot and the room was think with hash smoke. I was so fuckin high during the load out. Great days there. I was only about 22 years old. the old guy that was the house carpenter and normally the steward didn't like the rock concerts so he tossed them to me to boss. What a day. I'll never forget.

True true...sadly there exists not real guitar players with current radio so called metal groups. You have to find them outside the radio arena and go underground. This was the era when these guys had to be good on guitar. Anybody and play power chords and crunch. This music had real guitar players. \m/
Great playing, Michael Schenker is amazing! Even on the first Scorpions album where he's like 17 or smth, his playing is phenomenal! Btw, he came in early for the second part of the solo! Even the great ones make mistakes I suppose...

I love this song. Thanks for posting (back in the good old days). Worked it up back in '75 and saw them supporting Montrose at Winterland for Force It. Could still play it last time i tried. Been awhile. Weird second cycle here. Schenker recovered. Brilliant !!
It's great to know when younger guitarists mentioned their influences & gives them credit,a lot of others don't & want all the credit for themselves but we know better!
i still think this is probably his most beautiful melodic solo...when i bought this 8-track when it wa released it was just unbelieveably cool & tough sounding. very inspiring piece from the little band that COULD.
Where would UFO be without either of them? Average at best. But Schenker could always play tremendously. Great singers are very hard to find, yes. But players like Schenker come along way more rarely. I'll take a great great guitar player like Schenker over a great great vocalist like Mogg in a band anyday. They got more to offer.
I had a UFO single with Shoot Shoot and Doctor Doctor. I told my friend because he didn't know yet . As he listened, he also bought this single. It was the same with the single from the Whitesnake group . He also bought thanks to me.
Heck yeah, how come there aren't bands like this these days? Pure and "simple" hard rock as I prefer it. Hats off to AXEFLYERFV for sharing this to the rest of us!
Funny . . . if you remember Pete Way. This is rather one of his blooper reels and the look on his face shows it. He even gets a shout-out at end of video - for basically - "the show must go on".
notice the duct tape on the mic,when i was in a garage band we put duct tape on the mic even though it didnt really need it, just because so many of the bands we liked had it on

Thanks for posting. This is all great stuff. I recently attended U.F.O. with Vinnie Moore. He's a great player, However, I cut my teeth as a teenage rocker with Michael Schenker. Saw them back in these days as well. I've also recently seen Michael Schenker Himself. The show I caught had Michael in his glory.
@austingunsmoke thanx for your questions & answers ,very cool of you! this is my take on this, I think Danny (Keyboards) Chapman (second guitat) came all in 1 with Paul Raymond to finally got that unmistakeable UFO sound from Lights out ,Obsession & sadly but (Last Schenker album) Strangers in the night! ofcourse the Reunion albums came later!! just my own humble opinion !!

This is so tight:****First 5 studio albums w/Schenker and one live, all excellent, but "Force It" was my favorite..
Force it was a little overlooked diamond and is also my favorite. Mother Mary is fackin shiznits!
Force It Is by far the best UFO Album . Believe It or not....I bought It because of the cover. And then the music was better than the cover !

Force It changed my life. One time I actually rattled pictures off the wall on my step dads stereo.
