This is Tarja the 1st singer singing not Floor. I have written some background info for you. Nightwish has had 3 singers and some other changes. Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu. Then there is Troy Donockley who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai became the drummer and as of now still is. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. the 2nd one was Anette Olzon (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen.( power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit live ( Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. Very true. Tarja trained as a classical lyric soprano. She is wonderful. Floor was classically trained as well but definitely does have more tools in her repertoire. The differences between the two, I think, are what makes Nightwish's older catalog such a joy to experience because across all three singers (Tarja, Annette, and Floor) each is a fresh take on a classic song.
@TheBlackiwid Which song was it? I know a lot of fans coming from the Tarja era weren't fans of Annette. She has a brighter voice and tends to belt more than follow the classical nature of Nightwish which was almost the complete opposite of Tarja. For me, Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerium were great albums so I'd be interested in hearing why her voice didn't resonate with you.
@TheBlackiwid Those two albums were definitely written with her in mind and I've heard some criticisms regarding her live performances. I haven't seen many, and the ones I have were good. I liked her version of Poet and the Pendulum, The Escapist, her audition to Nightwish singing Ever Dream. With that many people saying she is pretty hit and miss live, I have to give some credence to the criticism. Thanks for the perspective.
I agree- @@lagginya7405 - those 2 albums are in my top 4 Nightwish Albums.. I really did not care to listen to Anette sing Tarja songs live, though.. But I would not want to hear Tarja sing Anette songs either...It's what makes Floor pretty special...

Tarja is, in three words; a Classically Trained Soprano. She has a 3 octave range. Not many can hit that last note. Floor, who sang in the previous videos (Poet and Pendlum and Ghost Love Score) is also classically trained, but instead of the enhancing her soprano, she decided to go diverse. He octave range isn't Tarja, but she sings very well. I like them both. Both are vocal beasts, but in different ways. Thanks for reviewing!
Classically trained singers have immense breath control. I used to sing in a capella choirs when I was younger and was able to sustain higher notes for a longer period of time. Diaphragm control is incredibly important. This woman has a beautiful voice and great vocal control.

This song was made for Tarja. She killed it. Now maybe you get a little glimpse of why some of us were really torn up when she was fired. Floor is doing a great job now, so I appreciate her for stepping in and fearlessly filling some pretty big shoes. God have mercy on the next one if there is such a thing. Hopefully not. No lie tho ...Tarja Turunen is one of the most capable female vocalists of modern times. Like the music or not she is top 10 all day long. Floor Jansen is a close 2nd in this genre.

The bassist, Marco, is a lead singer in his own bands. He's ten years older than everyone else and was well-established in the Finnish metal scene. Bringing him into Nightwish was a genius move since they could then do so much more vocally within the songs.
I can picture the Phantom holding the object of his obsession, Christine, in his lair under the opera house. He demands that she sing only for him. This performance adds a new dimension to the Broadway musical.

Heres a little insights: it's over 20mins long and hav devided in 5 different parts. First one called "four point six" meaning billions years ago. It travels through planet forming, stars... water, plants, dinos, all the way to the present time. So its a about evolution on earth. Truly the greatest show on earth. We are just to close to see it and understand it. But this one helps :) btw checking out the lyrics before video helps. Theres a part "We were here" Goosebumps everytime... And talking about the Song itself. Truly a Masterpiece from the Mastermind himself Mr. Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards). Everyone should see and hear this masterpiece. True story. Initialy Nightwish was a acustic band untill they asked Tarja to sing with them and they had to change to metal because her voice.
If you can't handle any more Nightwish, try Kamelot out. I recommend Ghost Opera, Love You To Death, the live versions of Center Of The Universe, Forever, & Elizabeth (Part I, II, & III), Sacrimony, Liar Liar, & Veil Of Elysium. I know it's a long list, but you will not be disappointed with Kamelot. I recommend starting with Forever live from the One Cold Winter's Night concert.

Nightwish songs.. before hearing the song, you should do a little research lyrics.. etc and MY Favorite the MASTERPIECE: The Greatest show on Earth live in Tampere, Finland. Heres a little insights: it's over 20mins long and hav devided in 5 different parts. First one called "four point six" meaning billions years ago. It travels through planet forming, stars... water, plants, dinos, all the way to the present time. So its a about evolution on earth. Truly the greatest show on earth. We are just to close to see it and understand it. But this one helps :) btw checking out the lyrics before video helps. Theres a part "We were here" Goosebumps everytime... And talking about the Song itself. Truly a Masterpiece from the Mastermind himself Mr. Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards). Everyone should see and hear this masterpiece. Been in concerts: Metallica, GNR, Maiden, Mötley, Bon Jovi.. etc.. (and now Nightwish) i never thought that the band whos Really got something to say i found it here in my own country. Billy...you are not altogether crazy ...the only once who are , are those so deaf that they will not hear...that is those who not willing to acknowledge that Tarja is so freaking vocally gifted...nightwish recruited her in the last year of her collegial training to become a chamber classical performer...at the time she was what is known as a mezo soprano with a deeper voice.. her voice was deep, rich, reverberating and utterly flowing...you got to hear it to believe it ..here is a sample of it ,from the "wishes to eternity,dvd":...ruclips.net/video/JYVl6MOZXIs/видео.html ...here in the current video she already modulated her voice to sound thinner but no less beautiful...thanks for great reaction ....God bless
