You need to shell out around 20 times more for a good camera to get similar picture without the compromises of the EOS M and Magic Lantern. Just buy a good glass, audio, and some lights, and shoot with EOS M. And shoot a LOT. Do it for free at first. Create a showreel. And when you start making some money, then and only then upgrade.
Expecting an EOS M delivery from Japan (EBay) soon, included a manual lens Minolta ROKKOR. Can’t wait to start shooting raw video but indeed want to start from scratch with the good old 1080p. I understand what you saying, I have seen some comments on some of my EOS M recorded videos where people are like "why?" just get something better. I guess the fun is in the journey and not many understand that.
Good point bro and your guess is right!!! The journey is great, the people you meet and the excitement of it all. I would never have met the guys I currently do paid work with (on other cams) Wilson from Brazil and probably wouldn't be doing cinematography if it wasn't for the eos-m so you can see how this cheap camera changed my life. Sorry to turn your comments to "about me" but one more example. I used to love flying manual drones, the excitement that full control was in your abilities alone was very enjoyable. I moved to Parrot & Dji and the fun went away. Yes I was getting better footage but I didn't have to try and that kinda ruined the hobby. I should have went fpv but the drone thing passed. The eos-m keeps things fresh for us and gives us new perspective what and really teaches you how to overcome most other camera's limitations. Just subbed to your channel as it's my kind of content 😁🙌🏾🙌🏾
@@Altcine no you haven't turned the comment about yourself. You are talking about the things that are real, the good stuff, the real world experiences. @@SuperSlackOff Bro, don't worry...I respect the sharing of information....not how pretty things look. It's like those videos shot on a mobile phone telling you how to fix your car. Nobody cares about the quality when you're saving hundreds of pounds 🤣
Oh the uproar you're about to cause 😂. I know we've discussed this already about just shooting and not getting bogged down in the technical aspects. I'm actually thinking we shouldn't share settings and just encouraging shooting video. Emphasis going to story and content instead. Pull people out of the comfy B-roll zone.
😅😅 yes bro....I can imagine some people from the community not liking certain comments and I think my nervousness came across in this video. I do stand by what I'm saying though, we...the old hats need to build this community more and show how powerful the camera is but it seems like everyone just loves B-roll & settings videos. I think this is why people tinker then move on without creating at least one meaningful project.
@@Altcine well I personally back all you said. There's no growth if you continue to follow the line. Sometimes you have to leave it and forge a new path.
Magic Lantern is most definitely not for me lol! Great video man, love the fact that your friend has a movie on Netflix shot on magic lantern. Everytime i see these guys in the groups asking if the GH6 or whatnot is netflix approved i just chuckle a little. Like you said, just go out and shoot.
good video man, good advice. I haven't got an OS M yet, but I've been meaning to try magic lantern for years on my other camera. On the EOS M, are there a lot of other bit rates available if one wants to NOT shoot in Raw?
Thank you 👍🏾👍🏾 Yes you can increase the bit-rate for normal recording. It not a WOW difference but it definitely helps. The only problem is you could be left with focus dots etc so definitely try it before you shoot anything meaningful.
This is why before I purchase the EOSM and Magic Lantern I'm going to learn as much as I can about it before I purchase it. I've been using my EOS M50 for awhile now and I want to take this on as a project.
That's the way forward. I see so many people dissatisfied with the process but it's not always the users fault. I notice a lot of people either show the good parts or completely trash it .
@@Altcine I want to take this on and build out another cinema rig with the EOS M and Magic Lantern and learn as much as I can. It'll be nice having four cameras instead of three.
Depends on what you're buying the camera for. If it's to learn about raw video and colour grading then eos-m. If it's for making RUclips videos, capturing events etc then the Sony will be more reliable. I think the a5100 with a speedbooster and decent lenses will produce a good image without fuss. The eos-m is like magic but it it does have its problems.
So i was thinking buying eos m for 200$ should i got as a beginner i thought spending 1000-1500$ on cinema camera is lil bit off so should i get eos m or increase my budget and buy other….if want to inc then which camera should i go for
Hi Noty,, The first thing you must realise that magic lantern is not official fw and can have bugs. That being said, if you learn about it and don't follow the high resolution race then you can have a good experience with it. I started out with the eosm as my very first camera and don't regret it one bit. It taught me a lot about raw, cinematography and grading raw images and as you can tell I'm still a big fan despite owning quite a few other cams. The outlay is very cheap so if you don't like it you can easily sell it. Btw which country are you in because $200 seems a bit high unless it comes with a lens? I would have recommended a bmpcc OG but the prices have gone crazy so there is nothing....NOTHING in the price range of the m that will shoot raw...just know you have to know what you're doing so join the Facebook group if possible.
@@Altcine yoooooo i bought it today for 175$ incl basic kit lens 18-55mm and i guess it would be a great start for my journey thank you for your suggestion. :)
Hey, great price 😁🙌🏾🙌🏾 there's good deals if you look around and that's what people need to do ...don't rush and pay over the odds just because there's a bit of hype going around. Make sure you join the group in description and if you have any issues ..it's probably been asked many times already or we can help you.
Hey man, thank you.. I think the same rules apply when shooting with any camera ie exposure and lighting. The only tip I can give outside of the usual rules is when using 1080p for the most reliable recording, things like glasses and necklaces can cause aliasing and moiré. Also stripes on shirts etc can cause artefacts so just pay attention to what client is wearing.
Nice one Bro. Step by step is the key. Problems will arise always with ML. However they are solvable once you understand the menus and you don't throw the camera out of the window at the first obstacle. After that ...It's a breeze understanding it and all that's left is the creativity inside the soul!. Speak soon bro!
That's it bro, 100% agree with all your statement and that's why it has this cult following because some people have mastered it. I'm truly shocked by some of the great content I've seen made with this camera.
Great video and insight as always, and I agree. I just wanna mention your eye line, you must be looking into a monitor - but it's like your looking over the viewer's head, when you do look into the lens, we connect with you more naturally. :))
Thank you Chaplin. I fully understand....the camera level was definitely off. It's the first time I used this setup so thanks to you and another person I now know how to fix it. Thank you
You are wise man :) You say more things in simple and practical way then all "new camera hypers". Thanks for motivation and giving me more focused mindset :)
Man I have OG Eos M - it's really a gig for geeks :) It's cool for creative, short clips, but for real life filmmaking it's pretty quirky :) I think the best alternative (and cheap too) is BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera - original (1080p) - PRORES recording in camera it's greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat.
Yeah I hear that, you really have to be careful with it. I actually did a video titled 1080p kings. When I got my BMPCC OG they were reasonably cheap...I paid £350ish. Now people are asking ridiculous amounts for them. It really is a great camera but the price is too high now.

Hey bro, You can still learn on the 10D so that's a good thing. Also you might want to look up 650d or 700d. They work very well with ml now and you might find a better deal than the Eos-M.

I mean, this picture (especially with a good light ;))... It's just mesmerizing.
@@realad88 that's it bro... have a plan and work to sharpen those skills 👌🏾👌🏾
Expecting an EOS M delivery from Japan (EBay) soon, included a manual lens Minolta ROKKOR. Can’t wait to start shooting raw video but indeed want to start from scratch with the good old 1080p. Your link to the download site is not the one from ML…
I see two downloads.
A small and a large file size.
What do I have to download for starting in 1080p…?
Thanks a lot by the way for your contribution.
What is the best mode for unlimited time raw without crop (without moire/aliasing) ?
Youd be looking at 5kfrtp or 2.8k. But you're always going to get a crop of some sort.
The only way to offset this is to get a very wide lens.
@@Altcine how much crop for this mode?

Thanks for the sub, I provide G.A.S Support as a way to justify my own purchases, its not a good thing. I know exactly what you mean, limitation encourages growth, sometimes boosts creativity. Otherwise after a while everyone's footage, review, blog looks and sounds the same, right? . Did I mention I learned a lot from your videos .
@@SuperSlackOff awesome, I'm glad you understood where I was coming from 😁
Ahhh man GAS is a real problem lol at some point it settles down though. This is what I mean about being "over qualified " we spend so much time on the gear and not shooting but it does go away when you get busier.
Yeah I'm going to binge watch you channel and see what I can learn👌🏾 thank you for watching and commenting
@@Altcine I have to warn you that my stuff is a bit amateurish though, but very personal, like old RUclips before monetization.
@@SuperSlackOff Bro, don't worry...I respect the sharing of information....not how pretty things look.
It's like those videos shot on a mobile phone telling you how to fix your car. Nobody cares about the quality when you're saving hundreds of pounds 🤣
Great advice and inspiring as always🙏🏻 Just the push I needed to put it into more practice. Much Love💜
Awesome bro. Like anything this market is a hard road....but it can be done!
@@titaniumshell thanks mate, that means a lot coming from you as you're very active in the community 🙌🏾
Looool you've moved on now 😁 Imagine me posting this on the Blackmagic group....there'd be a witch-hunt for me lol
good video man, good advice.
@@Altcine Thanks man
This is why before I purchase the EOSM and Magic Lantern I'm going to learn as much as I can about it before I purchase it.
@@UnauthorizedCreations I hope it works out well 👍🏾👍🏾
which is better for video between the canon eosm and the sony alpha 5100?
Depends on what you're buying the camera for. If it's to learn about raw video and colour grading then eos-m.
If it's for making RUclips videos, capturing events etc then the Sony will be more reliable.
I think the a5100 with a speedbooster and decent lenses will produce a good image without fuss.
The eos-m is like magic but it it does have its problems.
So i was thinking buying eos m for 200$ should i got as a beginner i thought spending 1000-1500$ on cinema camera is lil bit off so should i get eos m or increase my budget and buy other….if want to inc then which camera should i go for
Hi Noty,,
The first thing you must realise that magic lantern is not official fw and can have bugs.

Hi mate, great and concise video. Do you have any tips for recording people/faces?
Hey man, thank you.. I think the same rules apply when shooting with any camera ie exposure and lighting.
The only tip I can give outside of the usual rules is when using 1080p for the most reliable recording, things like glasses and necklaces can cause aliasing and moiré. Also stripes on shirts etc can cause artefacts so just pay attention to what client is wearing.
@@Altcine Ah ok perfect, thank you so much for the advice man!

Absolutely loved this video mate and the fact that you made the time to respond to every comment says a lot about you. Stay blessed.
How long EOS M can record ini raw 1080p?
What did he used which camera for Netflix film
We had a long conversation on phone with lots of information passed but I'm sure he said it was a 5d2.

Well the Fujifilm xt-4 is a pretty good all rounder, even for a aps c sensor.

You're absolutely right, we need to shoot more and stop faffing about in the settings.
💯 mate! I've been seeing some great stuff pip up lately but we definitely need more quality content.

Taking the time to learn this has been worth it. When you're making videos, it's not an expense, it's an investment. Investment in time.
Every camera is a tool. If you know how to use eosm it can be even better than arri without knowlege how to use it.
