My brother had a '85 Nissan 720 pickup with an all Lanzar system, back around 1992. Old logo with the speaker inside an upside-down triangle, made in USA. 12" Subs and 6" mids had red surround, ferrite motor tweeters, Mosfet 50 on mids/highs and Mosfet 100 on subs, Alpine cassette player. I felt so cool ridin' to school in that truck.
Keeps these vids coming man! I love the non name brand stuff as well. The mystery of the product makes it that much more fun.
Nice to see one of these in your lab! As an old school competitor of Lanzar back in the day, it's nice to see being tested. These are great for very small, sealed enclosures. Zanzar was phenomenal back in the day!! Their "Pro" series were decent.
I remember those purple amps and 15 inch subwoofers. They used to be awsome back then. I had a friend had a big box with x2 15" they were loud. The box exploded in half thats how loud and that pressure was on explosive... 😂 what a blast.
Back when I was in high school(early 90s), my buddy had a system in his grand marquees that had Lanzar subs. They are not bad subs and for the money they are actually pretty nice. Certainly are not going to be winning SPL contests or rattling a car apart with them. But if you want bass you can hear and feel on the cheap, they work great. In a lot of ways they were like pyramid subs from the 80s and 90s. Most pyramid subs were junk unless 100 watts was all you intended to send their way. But Pyramid also had a "cast pro" line that were actually pretty good. A lot of companies get started by creating large quantities of barely okay subs that gain a bad reputation for the brand and when an actual good product comes out, it has a bad reputation due to the brand, resulting in few people being willing to spend a higher price on a really good sub from a brand with a bad reputation.
BTW, I like videos like this where lesser known and cheaper brands are tested. IMO, even really cheap subs can sound good, as long as the boxes are properly tuned and the amplifier properly matches the sub.
I've been toying with the idea of doing a build around these for like, 5 years. Never wanted to take a break from number chasing to do it. Now that I've toned way down I think it's a good year to go for it and see what I could do with a few of these Lanzars.
Man that’s a great little woofer. These or the Recoil Echo 8s can get you bumping.
14 years ago I bought these subs 2 12s dual 4 ohm on 1000 watt memphis mc 5000 monoblock. On a custom box I build for a explorer to fit in back of the 3rd row seat . It was loud . I think it was 120 for these on 2 12s. That's was a budget build.
I bet this could fit in some factory locations

My very first subs were Lanzar back in the 90s and the were pretty damn good back then

Thumbs up for that soundstream amp. Its the one I’ve been using in my daily commute for almost 6 years without a single issue.
Those skar boxes aren’t too bad. I had a ct sounds ozone 10” in one just like this and it literally played down to 23hz! Shocked me for what it is.
For cheap prefabs I'd say they are the best for the money. I've tried almost every prefab.The CT sounds box I like slightly more but it's a little more $. Gp car audio Tru spec are technically the best pre made boxes if you can't go custom.

nice! Been waiting for a review on these. Lanzar 15's with the red surround were my first subs in '92, and they banged. Maybe do the Warzone subs next?
I have always wanted to buy this sub, but could never pull the trigger….always bought something more expensive. I’d love to see you do a series on the best budget gear package for a 6.5/8/10/12/15” subwoofer including Amp, Sub, Box, wiring kit….. be extremely interesting to see what you would pick for us ?? Also, please do the 15” 😂
I tested one on my channel and was surprised I liked it.
I wished they still made the opti subs, those did pretty good. I do have some of there 3 way component sets , and i have to say they are pretty good , especially for an 89 dollar 3 way set. Not audiophile , but very clear and detailed .
Noticed the impedance stays around 8ish, will an amp rated 150 @ 4ohm enough for this sub? Also how is this sub compare to NVX VSW82 v2?
I just bought the old Hifonics 12 for $35 from Amazon to play around with and was looking at this and some other good looking 8s as well.

That's pretty cool. I loved Lanzar back in the day, and wondered about these, so it's nice to hear someone who has retail experience with them. Do you know what the difference is between the Max ST and the Max Pro? It's hard to find detailed info on them.
@@williecompton243 max pro is hot garbage. Weak voice coils. Falls apart very fast at under rating
About a week ago I installed 2x 15 Lanzar Max pro (Free Air) in my Accord; There's one thing I'm finding out.... These subs take a little longer to break in (from my experience). I'm still running them at 4 ohm and I would guess they're close to 30 hours of play time.

When I had my Envoy I put kick panels in so I had only front stage, but then put Lanzar 6.5s in the rear doors. It was actually a pretty decent setup for using all factory locations
Have 2, $35 autotek subs at home on a audiozerone1000w amp, i don't even need to play at full volume (the subs can't handle the amp at full power) but am good for now with those. 😊
cool stuff another good option to look at might be the recoil echo 8. another $40 woofer.
Sometimes there are budget gems.
I owned a bunch of Lanzar products back in the early to mid nineties. Was excellent products back then. Got bought out like most of the name brand companies did and was turned into garbage. MB Quart is another company that was excellent and turned into garbage. These subs would be like buying a kicker sub. I've owned both

I really like the look of those subs I never did have them in the proper enclosure one thing I do remember about them is they definitely had the stinkiest voice coil of if he subwoofer I've ever smelled lol
Lanzar isn't what they used to be (part of Pyle now, right?) I notice you didn't push that thing too hard. My 12" MAXP124D blew with about 200W in less than 5 min. I used the box my cheap Rockville 12 came in. The Rockville (which is significantly lighter) handles the power no problem. Also threw in a cheap Kenwood and pushing 400W to that with no problem (it's rated 250). So not sure what happened. This lanzar *looks* really impressive but I think they're using the cheapest chinese voice coils they can find. I'd have this thing re-coiled but prob. not worth it, I paid
I had 4x 8" in my truck and they sounded good until i hooked up a larger amp and fried them 😢🫤
I was about to say wow they put a huge dustcap on the 12 now then I seen u pick the sub up and was like oh dang it's a tiny little guy.
Do you happen too know the true T/S parameters on the skar zvx 12? Says 40hz on the box says 51 on there website and everything else I don’t trust and I don’t get any Manuel with them either lol
I think I have the TS parameters from the zvx. I will check. What specs are you wanting?
I believe if you're replacing a blown stock subwoofer that would be a great replacement.

@@kckc4532 for the people like me if your car, truck or suv has a 8 inch subwoofer location but come blank. You can easily add some bass without taking up space.
The MaxP84 is slightly cheaper at $38 for 800w 4ohm.
These are good for home the 12 has a low fs and plays low .
will you test the 12d4 version

Junk sub put six of them on a audiopipe 2000 and didn't last the day. Skar ix takes my vfl comp 2.5 k daily for roughly 3 years now. I was very disappointed in these lanzar Maxx subs.
I was just looking at the 12" of these, was gonna try 2 and see how they do.
At 70$ i wouldnt expect alot but never know they might be really good.

I used to rock 3 12s on 1000w and 2 15s on 1200w max st dvc. They got down for the price. DO NOT get the max pros!!!
What's the cons with the PRO? I'm trying to decide ST or PRO in a sealed enclosure

These subs are great if u don't expect more than a 40 dollar sub.
Back in the day when i worked at pyle (92) they made good stuff now it trash same as lanzar
