      Apparently, Pertwee was told to simply play himself. He said was a great help to him, because he was mostly known for putting on a lot of silly personas (similar to his disguise as a cleaning lady in this vid). He was having time pinning himself to who he actually was, and Doctor Who was a great help in that.

    I was a bad Whovian for a long time - the sort who wouldn't accept that anything before 2005 actually happened. Then Tom Baker showed up in the 50th anniversary special, and I couldn't really do that anymore. But when I did start to look back at the classics, for some reason, I went straight to Jon. And it was like I was experiencing failing in love with Doctor Who all over again! Even though he died before I was born, I feel like he was my first Doctor in a way. He's just magic and I absolutely adore him. 💖

      Jon was my first Doctor. I watched half of the first episode of Spearhead from Space before my mother turned it off because it was "too scary". Then a few years later I found the repeat of Sea Devils and I was hooked completely.

      They’re actually both quite similar, they both wear mostly black with occasional splashes of colour, quite sarcastic, not afraid to get physical, bitter over recent trouble with Time Lords (exiled to Earth/Time War) and they both dislike and constantly clash with authority figures despite often being seen as one themselves.

    A few scenes that would have been perfect to add to this awesome compilation:
    1) In addition to eathibg the sandwich in that fencing scene with The Master (absolutely hysterical), at the end, The Doctor gives a yell and "karate kicks" the weapon form The Master's and says "How many times have I told you! You'll NEVER solve anything with violence!"
    2) In The Three Doctors, when Omega conjures up in The Doctor's mind a metallic looking Creature from the Black Lagoon and The Doctor has a "Judo/wrestling" match with it.
    3) In The Carnival of Monsters, he has a bixing contest with a British Navel officer played by Ian Marter, who would go on to portray Harry Sullivan, one of The Fourth Doctor's companions and later became involved with the writing of novelisations of Doctor Who TV serials for Target Books, penning nine such adaptations in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
    I loved that this incarnation of The Doctor was willing to engage in physical confrontations, but still only when necessary. He would voice his disdain for violence but would acknowledge that physical action was sometimes necessary.

    • @kendraressler4497
      @kendraressler4497 2 года назад +7

      Heck even the 1st Doctor was willing to put up a physical fight to defend himself if he had to. I don't mind the Doctor's pacifism when it comes to not using guns and not resorting to lethal methods but I wouldn't mind if every incarnation or two we had a Doctor who could physically defend themselves with Venusian Akido like the 3rd Doctor did.

    Hell, it only existed because the BBC saw the success of the James Bond series abroad and wanted to duplicate it - *while* slashing the budget on their sci-fi productions
    The fact that the show still managed to, overall, *work* despite the absurdity of the people in charge, and the problems presented by them, is a testament to the endurance of Doctor Who as an IP and the wherewithal of actors like Jon Pertwee, Roger Delgado and Nicholas Courtney

      All of these people[ Or rather person one entity multiple bodies] are incredibly cruel On occasion
      Never forget the end of that cyberman two parter in the second siri's a of the new show where the doctor basically tortured innocent people by making them aware of the fact that they became cyberman
      That's a problem with the writing.By the way because instead of just having Plot convenience that made them get their minds back they should have just had him a Plot convenience that allowed him to blow them up

      I think the first Definitely.
      The second could have been Made in color because the Batman 66 show was in color but the BBC.Couldn't afford it
      Doctor who's chronic problem they broke
      But these are just Hypotheticals and what if.Yes , the third doctor was the first in color not counting Dr who Is from those dalekmania films That were remakes of two cereals from the first doctor with the different actors

      The name was first used by Jamie mccrimin.When he had to tell people the doctor's name , I think the doctor Had hit his head or some thing can't remember.I was kind of zoning out when I watched that story
      The first Doctor used other names like Doctor Foreman.Or doctor caligula
      And was mistaken for doc friday That one time

    at 2:31 this was one of my Favorites as a kid, watching 15 year old reruns for the first time..."something very large, very fierce, and probably very hungry".
    I was born in 1980, but watched the vast majority of Doctors 1-7 between age 5 and 12 on PBS in the U.S. wish the damned TV station would quit playing the Tom Baker episodes I've seen a dozen times, and play some Jon Pertwee episodes, Wtf?

    • @plantainsame2049
      @plantainsame2049 3 месяца назад

      That was probably just Down to baker's longevity and popularity
      I bet yet they did something like that.And nowadays it would be mostly david tenant
      Both brilliant doctors but Over exposure does kind of taint them unfortunately

      13 is a hit or miss. If you're a stickler for writing and characterization, you might not enjoy her run. Especially if you love 12 - they just don't compare. BUT if you're lax about those things, her first two seasons follow the same episodic rubric as the rest of nuWho. Her third season pulls an oldWho and has a six-parter, though it's got pretty mixed reviews. 14 and 15 (as of April 2024) are on Disney+. 15 reminds me of 2 - chipper, funny, inquisitive, caring, serious when he needs to be. If that's your thing, I recommend checking the D+ specials out!

    Is it Karate or Akido? Pertwee was the James Bond of Doctors, Baker was the most believable as an alien among us. Pertwee, however, is still my 2nd favorite doctor. He was also great in that role.

      It's some space martial ait's.
      Created by created by creatures with multiple arms.And that's why the Doctor is so impressive with it.Because he's basically doing it handicapped by their standards
      Is venusian aikido I believe
      But this is just the universe law.I don't know nothing about choreographically or martial arts to know if The actor is performing some real life martial arts

    He could be VERY sharp-tongued! That's one reason he needed Jo around - to soften his edges. He got shit done, though. Probably the most masculine of all the Doctors (the drag episode notwithstanding!).
