  • Ok, So I left my Ford Explorer setting for a few months, not running not starting.. and Then I needed to pull a trailer, so I headed out to start the beast.. and it would not turn over! The battery was good, but the crank shaft would not turn, when I put a large ratchet on it! The Engine was Seized! OH NO!! No fears.. I was able to fix mine.. in a simple way.. and you can hopefully do the same!? I show step by step, trouble shooting this problem, and the fix, and the final solution.. with the engine running once again!! Hope this help you save a little money, and fix your vehicles problems! Thanks!

Great video. Bravo for your tenacity and success.
I would only suggest a few observations. You are on the side of the road, suggesting the engine died while running, meaning it probably wasn't the starter.
Charging the batteries and checking the oil was first and you did that. But when trying to turn the crank, removing the belt which has a lot of tension, would be first. Then adding a cheater bar to try and turn it.
I would then say you did correctly by removing the plugs, as there is a thing called "hydro lock". But I would recommend trying to turn the crank again after the belt is off and the plugs are out. That would eliminate the need to fill each cylinder with oil. Usually an oil pressure failure would require you replace the oil pump...and the parts that go first are usually closest to the oil pump, which would be crank bearings...or top end parts like the cam bearings, etc. Seized cylinders are usually a result of overheating. And if she ran well...the oil pump or seized bearings didn't suddenly become repaired, so it was never an oil issue, nor a seized motor issue from lack of oil. I would suspect hydro locked, or possibly you found the alternator failed when your charged batteries drain back down again.
You did great. Didn't need the starter and most likely putting oil to sit in the cylinders wasn't the fix. Releasing the compression by removing the plugs, and then the tension of the belt allowed it to turn over.
This information is just for the guys watching the video who are trying to find out of they have a seized engine, or if in most cases like yours it is actually something else.

Great video. Thank you. I am also in same situation with my car having run absolutely smoothly last time (bit low on coolant), Then car was parked for two days and suddenly engine is now seized. Like you I replaced my starter already. I will try some motor oil down spark plug hole and letting it sit and then trying to turn over the engine manually.

My 92 4.0 was running very bad. It’s a 4x4 and mechanic said he thought it was the oil pump. If it’s bad the engine has to be removed to replace it. Then it’s off to the scrap yard. He said put diesel in oil and run it for 10 minutes then drain. Then fill with diesel and run for another 10. That when everything went wrong. I heard it labor at the 10 min mark and shut it off. The put in the new oil. Tried to crank and it was frozen. I took off intake from air filter and it had diesel in it. Checked motor and it was didn’t move. Took the spark plugs out and belt. Plugs were burned down and a few were wet with diesel. With a cheater bar it moved the engine. Turn key and it has started moving. I’m about to add oil in cylinder and let sit. I feel very confident that it will run again.
    The oil pump was working.
What I learned was that diesel really cleans engine. To clean 🧼.
Now it is running a champ. Making mistakes happens. It’s what you learn along the way that’s important.
I LEFT OUT ONE THING IT WAS RUNNING ROUGH BECAUSE THE AIR FILTER WAS SO OLD THAT IT CLOGGED INTAKE. LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES!

My buddy said the same thing to me.. It's not seized... unless water or coolant is leaking into places that it shouldn't.. It shouldn't seize in such a short time... It does seem that my coolant keeps disappearing though??? Not sure where it is going??? Maybe this is the reason??? If water gets into the cylinders.. it could build up some rust, that could seize the cylinders???.. It did have multiple problems.. All at the same time.. the battery went dead, the starter went bad,.. and the RFID sensor in the key/steering column went bad.. Maybe I was mistaken??... but I was not able to budge the crank... before putting the oil in the cylinder!??... I think demons are following me around!

Let me say this, being a Ford had nothing to do with 3 fresh plugs or adding oil to the cylinders.. In your video you didn't immediately cut off the serpentine belt anyway before trying to torque the crank.. I'd say you're AC compresser is bad and once you took the belt off freed the compressor up enough to start and run.. You're ac compressor is bad ,it's common to Ford. Next time IMMEDIATELY take the belt off or cut it, again no matter what you'll need a new one.. No matter the make, model or year, take the belt off FIRST, because that leaves the motor free to turn if it's going to...

All other seized engines videos except yours go straight to the problem, spark plugs, turning crankshaft, pouring down mystery oil into cylinder holes, but you spent 15 minutes walking in & out of the car, messing with the battery, with the starter, back into the car, etc. You're doing too much & it wears a viewer out
