This group together is exactly what the industry needed to keep it fun.
I agree, 100%!
Yes! Someone might even say it was about effing time!
Yesssssssssssssss
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🫣😂😂😂
The panel is missing Nico Leonard or Archie Luxury
In 1973 when I was 18 years old, I saw the Submariner in Live & Let Die. I was smitten and have worn this watch since I was 19-years-old.
You are a man with great foresight
Rolex Explorer 1, the watch that Ian Flemming wore when writing the Bond novels. He references Rolex in the books themselves I believe, so you'd have to imagine he was thinking of the watch on his wrist at the time.
I'm a little surprised that Adrian didn't pick it actually 😉
Ooooooo now that’s a freaking interesting observation.
Ian Fleming indeed sported an Explorer 1016. And Bond probably did as well in the books though Fleming never spelled out the model. Just that Bond wore a Rolex. And it did double duty as a good “knuckle buster.”
@@matthewhelm3035 Has Bond ever used his watch as a knuckle duster in any Bond film to date? How has Omega not seized this opportunity? 👊🏻😍
Agree. The other companies bought their way in. Automatic disqualification IMO. And I’m sick to death of Rolex content.
That said, the first Bond film I remember had Connery wearing a Submariner. So that’s “Bond’s watch” in my brain. GMT is my grail, so it pleases me that Pussy Galore wears one.
That is because they did not read the books...
I do agree with Adrian’s take…the “No Time to Die” Bond watch was a truly great watch. I only have one “CLASSIC” watch in my life. IT’S AN OMEGA. They are exactly what a person needs as a daily for a lifetime. Omega Seamaster 300 Chronograph. It does everything you need in a watch.
Stainless steel and rose gold of course.
You 00Mega guys are so funny.
Zero self confidence and so cult like.
Its Spectre that should have worn Omegas in Bond movies lol
Adrian criticized any 007 marketing on the Omegas BUT the biggest flaw which no one seems to pick up is the broad arrow marking on the No Time to Die Seamaster. The marking denotes MOD military issue and property of British government. Fine to wear as a soldier in uniform but terrible for a spy. If you were caught with this watch in cold war USSR or China, good luck proving you aren't working for the British government let alone being a spy. Very amateur mistake. You pose a danger to yourself and embarrassment to your country
Best Bond watch: yes its been said before many a time over, but Connery's Sub on a nato is pure stealth wealth with a military vibe. 100% Bond!
5513 Sub from Live and Let Die... Or the 6538 from Connery's era
To me, the Aqua Terra is the ultimate Bond watch. It's a dress watch, it's elegant but it flies under radar and it has some extra features under the hood that you don't expect from a dress watch - just like a real spy.
I agree. I really should have pushed my choice more. I think AT is a perfect do anything watch. Cheers, Adrian
Best watch of all time !! It has it all !!
What twaddle. You just like/have an Aquaterra lol.
It’s very overweight for a dress watch, but that would be good for fitting the gadgets in.
There is no perfect one watch per movie watch for Bond.
He certainly would not wear a shop window watch in some of the high end places he hangs out!
Great episode. I love Omega, so I really want to like the Seamaster Aqua Terra, but I can't. Is it a dive watch? A dress watch? A tool watch? The name doesn't match the look, and the look is pleasant yet schizophrenic. It's like the Hamilton of Omegas: everything with Hamilton is Khaki (what is up with that?), and Omega has OD'd on the use of the Seamaster moniker to a degree which I would charitably say is... confusing. Nevertheless, my Best Bond Watch choice would be a Seamaster as well, but the Planet Ocean 600M, a truly indestructible bad-ass tool watch. (I would add that Adrien's lead-up stories/choices were by far the best.)
I'm afraid you're all wrong. The Aqua Terra is well known for being a Bond watch. Before it appeared on film nobody gave a shit about it. The best Bond spy watch is the one nobody talks about. That is the Gruen dress watch worn by Connery in Dr No at the casino table when he announces his name for the very first time. But the overall hands down winner is the Rolex Submariner. The very watch that gave birth to the Bond watch. All others are wannabes. No contest.
The Rolex Big Crown in Goldfinger is THE Bond watch for me. It's the watch that all other Bond watches are judged by, and the look that Omega have tried to replicate for Daniel Craig, with varying results. The Goldfinger Rolex has zero gadgets, yet it's sophisticated presence (even on an undersized nato strap) screams Bond and essentially took Rolex to the next level at the time. A close second to me is the Goldeneye Seamaster. It goes without saying how iconic it is. I still believe to this day it's the most beautiful watch ever made, and I couldn't imagine Brosnan's Bond wearing anything else.
The 60's when a secret agent could afford a Rolex... paired with a three dollar watch band, the ultimate in unaffected cool... Bond should have been left in that time, everything that's come since is a letdown!
This show was sponsored by Omega. They paid for R@#x not to be mentioned.
Although everyone had some really great picks, Adrian really hit it out of the park. The latest “No Time to Die “ Omega watch is an incredible tool watch. This watch is so light you almost do not feel you are wearing a watch on your wrist. The Aqua Terra is definitely underrated. It is such an elegant and classic watch.
I agree with Adrian, AT it is! May look boring and blends in the background, but it’s true that it has to be and that. Otherwise you’re no longer undercover…. (Happens to be my initials too!)
Effing great, chaps! For me, the ultimate Bond watch was the Sub on NATO worn by the ultimate Bond, Sean Connery. Hats off for mentioning Autodromo; as a petrolhead and watch geek, I love them. The Group B aqua on a yellow strap is one of my favourites on my collection, soon to be joined by a Vallelunga in grey. Beautiful! Egging cheers!
Bond watch for me... Was a vintage no date submariner..
One of the most underrated omega currently is the seamaster Railmaster with the patina markers 3,6,9,12 and lollipop seconds hands, time only 🔥
The NTTD Seamaster was the first modern mechanical watch I’d tried on in many years and nearly ruined me for anything else. But my vote is for the original Seamaster 300M Diver. That watch was cool in the 90s and it’s still cool.
The Top Gear team of the watch industry. Love the show!
🙌🏻
Can’t believe the first Bond watch wasn’t mentioned!? Bond isn’t just a tool watch guy, he needs something for his tux… how about the Gruen Precision 510 😎
Fully agree with you man. Aquaterra is the bond watch: efficient, discret and can be dressy.
👍
There is only one right answer. The Rolex Submariner 6538. Original Bond, original Bond watch.
Exactly and wanting to be original or "experts" they did not even mentionned it... 🙄 A tag heuer as the ultimate Bond watch, come on...
Ain’t too proud to say this was almost too obvious to get a mention but we messed up and in many ways it’s a giant hiding in plain sight - Andrew (ps gets a huge mention in next episode)
@@Timeandtidewatches another big omission was the 5513 with the electro magnet and saw blade bezel that Roger Moore wore in Live and Let Die. I think it sold at auction for over $1 million.
@@Timeandtidewatches thank you for adressing this Andrew.
You might want to give your audience a complete list, so you should have added the Tissot PR-516, which is worn by Roger Moore in "Live And Let Die." It has by far the most spectacular dial of any of the Bond watches. And it has the added advantage of not being a Rolex, Omega, Tag Heuer, Seiko ...
My take on the best Bond watch is the OG Bond watch: Sean Connery's 5 digit sub on a Bond NATO (before they were even a thing). Personally, I'd love a two tone Sub on Bond's wrist paired with a vintage Bond NATO strap.
That biver clip is so underrated! The forethought to have it written into the movie. I wish we could hear more about it! Great episode!
Idea for another show… comparing watches to cars… e.g. Rolex = Porsche (a formula that works, only subtle changes over time)… Patek = Rolls Royce (hand made, limited quantity)… AP = Bentley; Omega = Mercedes… etc
What a "barn burner," of an episode. The topic, the examples given, and the logic behind each example, were just sensational. For me, this was an episode, that ended, far to soon. Bravo gentlemen......bravo👏
Thanks so much. Really glad you enjoyed it. 🙌🏻
Brosnan and Goldeneye were instrumental in starting my love for watches, as that was my first Bond movie. I've always loved the Seamaster and all it's iterations, especially the No Time to Die.
That being said, Connery's original Submariner is the peak Bond watch for me. I'd happily take either in my collection though 🙌🏼 another fantastic episode, lads. I was happy to see Breitling and Seiko mentioned!
I credit this podcast for the revival and subsequent wearing of my Tag Heuer F1 from 2001, thank you guys, I was never going to sell it, but I was not wearing it enough
Great fun show, but how could the Submariner not even get a mention?
This just popped up in my feed!
Connery is James Bond, Rolex is James Bond, first, on Fleming arm, then in his novels, then in the movies, and Rolex wasn't amused! I purchased my Submariner for $300 US when i was 17 yrs old, after Thunderball, three months pay from delivering newspapers.
I loved and appreciate y'all choices, i actually learned new stuff! but its like discussing the New Testament and ignoring The Torah!
I'd go the Gruen Precision, the first Bond watch that appeared on screen. Only the real Bond nerds would recognise it as a bond watch, and it reminds me of my Grandfather's watch (but his was an Omega).
Rolex submariner 6538 and the omega seamaster 2541.80/2531.80, both have influenced my love for watches
great episode! Like the loose formatted ones but also like the tighter format!
I knew you'd go night diver, and I love it. The Living Daylights has to be one of the most under rated bond movies, and I've been chasing a heuer night diver for years. Great episode gents!
Overrated watches - Nautilus, Daytona, & Cartier - SO TRUE. 👏 👏 👏
For me not the ultimate but coolest is the Gruen Precision 510 that Sean Connery wears in the first ever scene he’s in dr. No at the casino simply because the Gruen watch co was based in Cincinnati Ohio my home town.
New NTD omega and Aqua Terra fit best the modern bond and I can relate the most with them as I own a white dial SMP which is a killer watch. The older Omegas suit the Pierce Brosnan excellent as well . What I’m trying to say that each era had its own quirky watch that suited the movies of the time, but technologically, the latest ones are clearly for me at least , the coolest.
Bloody well thought through answer Gabriel. I think you nailed it re the watch appropriate for the era vibes.
I'm older so my perspective is different the definitive Bond watch is a Rolex 5512 with an 18mm gray and black nato.
Finally someone ripping dainty watches. A men's watch should be 40mm at the very smallest imho
Great questions. What an awesome show.
And Andrew NAILED it with the Daytona.
🙏🏻 🙏🏻 🎯
@@thegorn @…. And wow. Sooo convincing you are.
Let me provide you with real data. Rolex, the owner and creator of the the Daytona just so happens to categorize their watches - Women & Mens.
And if you took some time to review, there are 70 pages of watches (via phone) showing 980 women’s watches.
Now, this might hurt your brain but wouldn’t you know - no Daytona listed under women’s watch category.
Fascinating stuff isn’t it?
Best episode yet. Brevity is the essence of wit. The shorter time frame and the very well-framed questions (I like the grail watch question too) helped increase the discussion’s focus. Bamford’s picks were def the choice of a designer; I really like the Top Time. Great analysis in support of the Seikos. But the NTTD is kinda hands down, enit? It was like a Tyson fight. Good job gents.
Awesome show guys! Omega Planet Ocean 2500 would be my pick. Military vibes, super rugger, but also wearable with a suit
I'd have to agree, the Planet Ocean 2500 is still aesthetically one of my favorite modern Omega divers.
TAG Heuer? Did not see that coming. This was actually a refreshing take on Bond watches. I mean, you're all wrong of course, because...Submariner.
Ha. Lovin your comment Rich. Submariner indeed.
I am an owner of the Omega „no time to die“.. it is really great watch !!
I'm so glad Bamford said the night diver. I love their reissue of this watch. Very tactical, almost metal gear solid vibe.
I'd go with the Planet Ocean 2500, that watch is still one of if not the best looking modern Omega diver's IMO, 42mm matte black dial/black bezel with white tri arabics "open 6 & 9 font" awesome! The aesthetics are drawn from the classic Seamasters of the late 60's while being a modern robust 600m diver, I'm a fan of the model, I think it gets overshadowed but to me the classic design is timeless. BTW love those wall clocks guys, very cool 👍
The Rolex Submariner ref. 6538 "Big Crown". The ultimate Bond watch
Quality yet again lads. Love these shows
so may diffrent options to choose from. From Seiko to Breitling. From Omega to Rolex. I absolut love my Nttd
What floored me is you guys digging the American accent while all us Americans dig your accent. I never knew it went both ways!
I would say the SPECTRE Seamaster 300 is my favourite Bond watch. It has the elegance and functional nature suited for Bond. Plus, the black/grey NATO strap is badass. It is one of the few Bond watches where it was love at first sight for me.
This is the one I regret not backing in - a travesty it wasn’t mentioned
I MEAN! How could I not click this thumbnail ?! GEORGE BAMFORD AS 007?! Hahahha I love it! And I loved these choices. Adrian had such a strong choice! I think I loved it so much because I wasn’t really into bond until the Craig era. Great video guys!
As a purist you would have to go with Rolex, as Ian Fleming selected the brand. Otherwise it’s the Omega from No Time to Die. The Army issue branding and those colours are just much nicer than what they normally do. Nice blend of the modern style and some vintage
Agree with the Sub being the ultimate Bond watch. But there's a big flaw on the Seamaster No Time to Die. It has a British broad arrow marking it as property of the Ministry of Defence. A real spy wouldn't be caught dead with that tattooed on their watch. It's basically a sticker on your wrist admitting you work for the British government. As a spy, Imagine getting caught with that on your person in China. They'd execute you without a trial.
For me the bond watch is an Omega. I grew up in the Brosnan era, so the Omega connection might be a generational thing. But you can't beat a Seamaster for the ultimate spy timepiece!
For me in terms of looks I loved the SPECTRE omega seamaster, but there are so many good ones, Sean Connery’s Rolex Sunny, Breitling Top Time, Roger Moore’s Rolex stubby (my personal favourite), Daltons Tag Heuer professional 2000m and the slew of omega seamasters since pierce and Craig’s era.
Scaramanga's Rolex King Midas and ST Dupont lighter that transforms into the golden gun.
No one mentioned the Rolex in Live and let die. I'm not sure which model it was, but it was a great gadget, with a magnetic field and spinning bezel that can cut through ropes. But I personally liked Andrew's choices, especially the No time to die( because I have one)omega Seamaster. 😊
The 5513, although I thought the big crown 6538 from Dr No would get a mention.
Flemming wrote that Bond wore Rolex in the books. He wore an explorer 1 and from the references in the book (simple but robust) you've got to assume that's what he was thinking when he wrote the part. So it's at least got to be a Rolex.
Connery wore a Rolex Submariner in 'Dr No', 'From Russia With Love' and 'Goldfinger', but yeah the Explorer 1 was the original Bond watch.
If you actually read the books Fleming doesnt specify Explorer or Submariner. He merely refers to the Rolex as an 'oyster perpetual'..........
Fast forward to 2.22 for the first mention of Tag Heuer 👌
I wonder if there will be a single episode of this show when Tag Heuer wouldn't e mentioned. It starts pissing me of.
Is that guy part of Tag Heuer, or what?
I think George needs a “swear jar”, every time he says TAG he has to put money in the jar.
@@AboutEffingTime , definitely!!!
I love you guys❤, but you get a participation trophy for the omega choices ….Goldfinger wins this easily. Just go watch the first 10 minutes of the movie and tell me I’m wrong.
Another amazing episode, thanks guys. Not in the bond movies, but the Bamford Aquaracer is my favourite as I have one 😂 I love how it's so light and you can use it for anything without worrying about scratching it. All watches in this episode are all good for their own reasons. Well done. Looking forward to the next episode. ⌚
As usual, great show guys! Fav part of the show was when you guys were talking about over-rated grails! 👍🏼
Back to Bond, I think the Sub on Nato is ingrained deeply and that that's the one I'd go with.
Great show again folks! Particularly the BYOI section is great to learn about new brands.
Have to agree with Adrian that the aqua terra would make a superb spy watch. Fantastic ,understated and great functionality .
My favourite watch was the NTTD Omega which is class!
Best episode yet! Loved every single one of the choices, but Adrian with the submissions of the Seamaster 300 and the Aqua Terra is the winner for me! Both watches pack so much punch yet are not overly flashy. Perfect choices for a spy!
Great group of guys and I love the banter. I wish you spent more time exploring the Bond watch theme as there are so many others I would’ve loved to hear you discuss. Cheers
Tune in for the live stream next Sunday. We will expand further on the topic for sure. I agree. Plenty more to discuss.
Love so much the No time to die version that i bought one a year ago. Never looked back since. Great watch to wear and quite versatile
Really, not even mentioning the Rolex Explorer or Submariner? The Submariner is my all-time favorite Bond watch.
I don't believe JC saved Omega, still had the speedy in the stable, but I definitely agree getting Bond was a massive shot in the arm for the brand
My vote is for the Rolex Submariner worn by Sean Connery. He was the best Bond and his four digit Sub, the best Bond watch. I also like the Casio Royale, a great (and ridiculously affordable) homage to the Seiko G757. The Rolex is unattainable to most, the Casio affordable by all - it is the democratization of the Bond watch for the masses.
Proud owner of a top time 2002, bloody love it
Great show guys! For me, the 2220.80 300m is the one! The watch is the epitome of cool in various shots in Venice, Italy. And, in an now-infamous scene left on the cutting room floor, Bond uses his otherwise featureless 300m as a knuckleduster - referencing Fleming’s OHMSS. It was a perfect “gadget” for Craig’s more grounded, more brutal portrayal of Bond, and I think at some point every reader of OHMSS who owns a SS watch on a bracelet has slid that watch over his/her wrist and questioned whether that would actually work.
Great episode guys, I look forward to the new installment each weekend. 🏆
I think the Heuer is really interesting. Especially because the UKSF really got "blacked-out" watches issued starting around 1987: The CWC SBS Diver. So I wonder if an advisor to the movie "Licence to Kill" told the director "... well our watches are blacked-out ... why don't you use something like that?"
Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean is my pick. It’s on Daniel Craig’s wrist in all first three bond films.
LE editions of the PO have been issued to SBS, too, (read blokes who do real-life James Bond sh*t)!
I love what you’ve started! Looking forward to each episode 😊
Since the Seamaster 300 Diver (Quartz) from 'Goldeneye' got me into watches I will have to go with that one as the winner. My personal favorite Bond watch though has got to be the Omega Seamaster 300 Master Co-Axial from 'Spectre'.
I liked it so much I bought it and still own it.
‘I hate anything that has the 007 logo on it’ to quote Adrian. Doesn’t the no time to die omega have a logo on the back? Precisely what put me off. Anyway my favourite was the one with the saw from live and let die
When it’s part of the design, that’s when it’s bad.
Submariner ‘Buzz Saw’ Live & Let Die went into my subconscious and ignited my passion for watches. The Golden Eye 2541.80 then took the torch. I purchased the new NTTD version, 210.90.42 but didn’t ‘Bond’ with it at all. Too expensive for what it is. The broad arrow on the dial also kills it for me.
Yeah the buzz saw does take the cake
I love this podcast and fully agree with the comment in the Daytona over rated-ness lol. It’s not a bad watch, but the cultural obsession with it is over the top.
Totally agree with you . I also think without the Paul Newman connection would it be so iconic ?
The Bronson blue dive watch is the one that I want. I don’t know how that isn’t the best bond watch of all time. I got a AT and a Casio Royal as a homage to the Sieko from octopussy but may heart is in that blue sea master
Has anyone noticed how similar the Spectre logo and Omega logo are?
Wow, one of the most underrated Bond watches is the winner! I'm as happy as George, since I own the Heuer Night Diver 980.031 as well. But I'm very surprised that no one mentioned the original Submariner. Without Connery wearing one on a military style strap in Goldfinger & Thunderball, would NATO straps be as popular today? I think perhaps not.
Gets a huge mention in the next episode - stand by
Great show! Great picks! You guys really gel off of each other. Love the Seiko pick and that TAG Heuer Night Diver is stunning. I love watches with full lume dials. And love the Omega picks. A good honorable mention IMO is the "Rolex Ref. 6238" (a pre-Daytona chronograph watch) that George Lazenby wore when he was romancing Tracy (Diana Rigg).
It's the Rolex Submariner for me, the other watches are all product placement apart from the Gruen worn in Casio Royale
Agreed!! But this is too obvious for the sophisticated "experts" delivering this podcast
They are making a really good job with different models in the Bond movies. For me the favorite are prob the Omega from Spectre together with Q:s comment when he gives it to Bond. When Bond asks "Does it do anything? and Q answer " It tells the time" =)
And second one are the one from casino royale.
Ha. I did not remember that line from Spectre. Priceless
@@marcusflack1523 Haha yeah that one just stuck with me , and feels like it fits into todays view of watches to when most of them really do just tell the time =)
Omega is great but you guys totally forgot the best bond Shaun Connery the submariner
Best watch by far
Great choices and Bond retrospective. But it has to be the original Sub in Dr No. And it’s cemented in that first scene; Bond casually goes from diving to tux while rocking the Sun. Every straight male who has - or is on ’the list’ - wants to be that guy - athletic and suave.
You're absolutely right.
*Goldfinger
I really think Bond should wear British. Let’s go Bremont.
I totally agree -- would be great for Bond to support a British watchmaker! Love Bremonts! :-) I also think that the British royal family should wear some British watches. I guess though that some of the Swiss companies are willing to pay more -- brilliant move by Omega in cutting that deal with the James Bond franchise. So can't really blame them.
The Heuer Night Diver was in The Living Daylights (1987) not Licence to Kill.
I love the look of the No Time To Die Seamaster. Tried one on, as a guy with a 6.2" wrist the Milanese bracelet didn't work for me, but it was great on the Nato, however I just couldn't justify the price over a standard Seamaster. You can tell your sponsor the deal is working, just ordered a bottle of Orange gin.
Cheers to that!!!
Majesty’s Secret Service limited edition 007 Seamaster 300M in stainless steel is my favorite.
Daniel craig wore the Aqua Terra in NTTD, as well. But only in the Matera scenes. So the AT appeared in the last 3 movies.
Great show fellas love the comment about the Nautilus with ears.In the USA we had the "Little Rascals " TV show back in the day so that being said I thought of a "proper nick name for the Nautilus- the Alfalfa because of the little guys ears.Yup drop the mic and send me my tee shirt. The Rootbeer,Pepsi, Bluesy, and .......the Alfalfa!! GREAT SHOW , KEEP IT UP!
Ruined the watch for me! 👂 👂 🤦🏼♂️
Live George's second choice and there's no surprise there. I think Gruen should get a special mention as it was Sean Connery's personal watch.
Couldn't agree more with Andrew and Adrian's overhyped grails.
BTW, looks like your editing is getting better. The first few episodes it seemed like you were cutting out some important parts of the conversation
Gruen. Under the radar gem
18:35 Such a fantastic ad here. Great photography and layout. Beautiful.
I’ve been binging your podcasts here. Fun talks. 👍🏻
James Bond is a man that lives a life that most of us dream about, but only some of us could truly stomach. The fact that Adrian mentioned the Aqua-Terra as something that a spy would wear makes all the sense in the world. Unlike the NTTD seamaster, the Aqua-Terra is more subtle and at the same just as tactical, due to its movement and water resistance. Great episode mates!!
Modern day James Bond would be a desk spy wearing an Apple watch. If he were a field agent he'd wear a G-Shock.
Cracking episode chaps, well done !
Thanks for watching Victor. 🙌🏻
I'm amazed the Casino Royale Planet Ocean didn't get a look in. For me, the PO is the definitive Craig-era Bond watch. Having a heavy duty diving watch on a utilitarian rubber strap was perfect as it was such a departure from the slightly preening, prissy Brosnan era and marked a return to basics. What better way to announce a tough, rugged, no nonsense new Bond than to give him a watch embodied these qualities?
I’m so surprised I didn’t hear a Rolex Sub 6538 in this episode as a choice. I thought it was one of the most iconic Bond moments and watches. Maybe they thought that was a given and everyone mentions that watch. I love the SMP 300m choice though, both versions. The Omega AT is as always a brilliant watch as well.
Love this video. Love seeing you guys sit, laugh and talk together.
As for the best Bond watch, the NTTD Omega was a no brainer to me. So totally agree. Second however I do prefer the Brosnan SMP and third the Aqua Terra. So all Omega in this case. 😎
These three remind me of the gold old Top Gear news section but for watches.
🙌🏻
I know this is old but sorry the no date submariner is THE bond watch. The brosnan era 300m put omega back on the map.
